I just can't wrap my head around the fact that any other filmmaker/youtuber alive would have sold this 3 hours information through a masterclass or course for at least 300$ but you just gave it to us for free. Thank you for this video, I'm already using the lessons I've learned to help me make my new videos!
    Key Filmmaking Lessons from Dan:
    💡 Step 1: The Idea (00:03:10)
    - Ideas are valuable: The stronger your concept, the smoother your filmmaking journey will be.
    - Knowledge is key: Draw inspiration from your expertise and available resources.
    - Collaboration is crucial: Surround yourself with insightful individuals who challenge and refine your ideas.
    - Reference and research: Explore existing content for inspiration and technical guidance.
    - Evaluate your idea: Assess feasibility, legality, time commitment, and ethical implications.
    ⬜ Step 2: The Whiteboard (00:07:35)
    - Develop a Logline: Summarize your film's essence with a concise one-liner encompassing problem, intention, obstacle, and solution.
    - Title & Thumbnail Creation: Capture attention with a captivating title and thumbnail that accurately reflect your content.
    - Craft a Hook: Engage viewers immediately with a compelling opening line.
    📖 Step 3: The Story (00:16:46)
    - Emotional Impact: Aim to evoke emotions and connect with your audience on a deeper level.
    - Storytelling Elements: Structure your story with relatable characters, a significant event, genuine emotions, and specific details.
    - The Iceberg Theory: Simplify your story by omitting unnecessary details while leaving room for audience interpretation.
    - Three-Act Structure: Divide your story into Impact (attention), Influence (conversation), and Persuasion (transformation).
    - Human-driven Storytelling: Avoid relying on AI; utilize your unique voice and perspective.
    - Continuous Learning: Always seek opportunities to improve and evolve as a storyteller.
    🗓 Step 4: Planning Your Shoot (00:23:16)
    - Budget Awareness: Work within your limitations and explore creative solutions.
    - Research and Respect: Understand the culture and legalities of your filming location.
    - Shooting Schedule: Plan your shoot but remain adaptable to unexpected events.
    🎵 Step 5: Music (00:27:56)
    - Music's Power: Music enhances the emotional impact and atmosphere of your film.
    - Creative Choices: Compose your own music or select existing tracks that resonate with your story.
    - Stems for Flexibility: Utilize stems for greater control over individual instrument tracks during editing.
    - Diagetic Sounds: Incorporate realistic sounds that occur within the scene.
    🎬 Step 6: The Shoot (00:37:54)
    - Essential Gear: Pack crucial tools like gaffer tape, multi-tool, power bank, and lighting.
    - Camera Setup: Optimize settings for date, time, format, picture profile, file naming, and frame rate.
    - Cinematic Techniques: Consider shallow depth of field, ND filters, shutter speed, white balance, and native ISO.
    - Data Management: Use multiple SSDs and a reliable system for data redundancy and security.
    - Conducting Interviews: Create a comfortable environment for compelling and natural conversations.
    - B-Roll & Coverage: Capture diverse shots including match cuts, time lapses, character follows, and drone footage.
    - Multi-Platform Content: Capture footage suitable for various platforms like UA-cam Shorts and TikTok.
    - Ethical Filming: Always obtain consent and respect the privacy of individuals you film.
    💻 Step 7: The Edit (01:10:02)
    - Project Organization: Establish a clear folder structure and utilize sequence bins for efficient workflow.
    - Footage Categorization: Organize clips by type, scene, theme, or event for easy access.
    - Interview Editing Workflow: Utilize synced, cut, and selected sequences for a streamlined process.
    - Master Sequence Development: Build your story chronologically, focusing on impact, hook, and narrative establishment.
    - Music Integration: Incorporate music that enhances the emotional journey and atmosphere.
    - Animation for Clarity: Use animation to explain complex concepts or depict sensitive topics.
    - Storytelling Choices: Make intentional decisions about scene inclusion, character arcs, pacing, and comedic relief.
    - Visual Storytelling Techniques: Employ match cuts, juxtaposition shots, and other visual elements for a powerful narrative.
    📦 Step 8: Packaging & Delivery (02:45:57)
    - Quality Control: Thoroughly review your final edit to ensure there are no errors.
    - Export Optimization: Configure export settings for your chosen platform, considering resolution, format, and bitrate.
    ⬆ Step 9: The Upload (02:47:06)
    - Reflection and Celebration: Acknowledge the effort invested in the process and celebrate your accomplishment.

Many UA-camrs or self-proclaimed filmmakers try to lure you to their channels with flashy titles and promises to teach you how to make a film. But when you watch their content, you’re left disappointed-it feels like a trap, full of talk but lacking the real information you need.
But with you, it was completely different. I enjoyed every minute of your film. You are genuine, hardworking, and honest. I’ve learned so much from you and continue to learn. You’ve truly inspired me. Thank you for all your effort, for not being selfish, and for sharing such valuable knowledge with those of us still struggling on our filmmaking journey.

This is the best 'Master' tutorial I have ever watched. This is everything you're looking for to get an insight into how other filmmakers do their work, so you can be confident about your own and know if you're on the right path.
You never get the full picture of how it really is, but here you do, and even from the same person and the same film/project!
Thank you very much for this incredible tutorial. I really hope it makes other filmmakers comfortable with making more films and following their dreams outside their comfort zone.

I’m a Just a guy from Sri Lanka that loves filmmaking and photography. I’m trying my very best to make a name for myself because I love the art of it. I’ve been watching countless UA-cam tutorials trying to understand the key elements of a good filmmaker but I don’t think I’ve ever come across a tutorial so transparent. The fact that every Raw moment was shared and that it was done simultaneously while doing other projects on the go, just showed us how genuine you truly are and your love for the art of filmmaking. I’ve never been drawn to a video like I have with this. And I can promise you will watch this countless more times so I can absorb as much as I possibly can. I am truly grateful for this video Dan❤. Took me 2 days but i made it through the video, created a new playlist called 'studying' and am taking my first proper project through this process, i've currently finalised (for now at least) my log line, title, thumbnail & hook. i'm transition from software engineering with no experience and at 29 i felt afraid that it would be too late to become a success (or that i simply wouldn't be able to put in enough time with this old 9-5). After watching this video its sobering, but also gives me hope because i have drive and dedication, and a stubbornness that perfectly suits this craft (and an incredible story that i fought very hard to be able to tell). Every single time I watch your videos, I get inspired and I am not even close to a film maker in any way, honestly. The @36:00 mark was pretty powerful and my first BIG smile came right at @53:00. You almost nailed the "how long is this video right now" time, well done, even as the one that edits it :) I wasn't going to watch the Beast video until this was done, but then @1:59:00 you told me to, so that is what I did. Doing that, added way more context to what you were saying here. The best laugh was when you realized you sent everyone to watch the video and that they might not like it..... This business is about constant uploading, but not too many times per week (and also after I upload something, I use a bit of Famester to make that piece of content instantly viral and popular). It's better to upload like once or twice per week, and it helps to avoid burn out.

I AM IN TEARS! This video came to me in a complete moment of serendipity. I was all fired up to start my channel on YT and Insta, but didn't know where to start. I was thinking of learning some video editing software to begin with(now I laugh at that thought). And then, I came across a reel on Insta where the guy said "Dan Mace should name this video from mastering the art of filmmaking to mastering the art of content creation." And boy was he right. I watched this video in 3 days, took 10 pages of notes, and learned more than I ever thought I could. Thank you for sharing this knowledge that will help people like me who want to begin filmmaking but don't have the know-how. It has given me clarity on my content creation journey. Parts of this image look very obviously generative AI to me - As a artist with experience in both generative AI, video editing, & VFX. • @DanMace
      @DanMace  Місяць тому +1

it’s Ai in photoshop actually :) there’s no scandal here haha. nothing to ‘uncover’ you are filmmakers - it’s so obviously fake. overly so. the hospital wasn’t filmed prior our arrival, so when we arrived the build was like half way done. The hospital was actually in ruins before the restoration began - because it was so remote we had nowhere to source imagery from. but u can see on google earth what it looked like more or less. like a few poles. Jimmy says ‘a few months ago’. besides the video and beast philanthropy’s contribution isn’t about the completion of the hospital. it’s about powering the hospital along with ‘give power’ the org. We also did a bunch of other stuff. this is in no way ‘faking a video’. the other stuff that’s claimed to be ‘fake’ is warp stabilised distortion. i get that not everyone is a filmmaker but i mean come on guys haha.

      @DanMace  Місяць тому

Nothing nefarious was done here. it’s so obviously photoshopped lol. i mean the moss on the side etc. No ‘expensive cgi’. If u actually watch the film, it isn’t about building a hospital, but besides that, this hospital is in the middle of nowhere. We had no footage of what it looked like prior. we only arrived 3 months into its restoration, hence Jimmy’s line ‘a few months ago’. at this point i’m like, come on guys.. the fact u as filmmakers can’t see that this was used as a way to create a visual of what the building looked like more or less months before arrival. when speaking to locals they described it as ‘in ruins’ . google earth with show same thing. like a couple poles. most important to note is that this building is not what the film or beast philanthropy’s contribution was about. it’s about solar panels (hence the title). stop nitpicking at everything u can guys. The philanthropy is an incredible organisation. leave it out your drama tea spills or whatever. the other stuff that’s apparently ‘fake’ is warp stabiliser distortion lol. We are a tiny editing team and don’t have all the tools so not everything is perfect.

Why instead of “blurring” it out you leave it in and say we’re gonna make this look a little nicer for everyone? But instead remove that hospital part and keep mentioning how it’s new. It’s not new it’s literally got a fresh coat of paint. Sure maybe it was more then just paint but come on why hide the hospital with effects, obviously to make everyone believe Jimmy just built a new hospital but isn’t talking about that because there’s no point that’s not big enough to mention.
