In my experience ski touring you can really feel the altitude above 8000ft/2500m when you are being active. Different for different people also. But you could defo feel 12000ft.

I remember going to Sunday River in Maine and all we kept driving was Up! I took a ski lift to a sideways lift that took me to another lift! I was at the highest point of the mountain, so high above sea level I could look across & see Canada

Bro, U can feel the difference in Colorado big time and that's only like 5000 ft, I got some legal weed & the place we ended up staying & skating at was almost 7000 feet above sea level. It was so hard to breathe and smoke! I couldn't imagine 10k let alone 12000 feet above sea level
