    Some of them really didn't understand the house insurance question lol. The stereotype of an Eskimo is that they live in an igloo, so their house is already frozen. The definitive answer is "melts".

    H/H match update for episode 1423:
    ...
    ~~~Today's action:
    And Charles's "Underwear" wins the game for our champ. It's her fourth trip to center stage for a Super-Match round.
    *Today's (first) audience match question: "________Explosion"*
    My thoughts: (Population, Nuclear, Big)
    The celebs: Betty (Population), Brett (Big), Charles (Gas)
    The choice: Population
    The answers: Big, Atomic, Population
    So far our champ has worked with Scoey, Dick, and Betty, matching only the latter.
    Today it's Betty redux and a double to boot.
    Stats: Betty's most recent attempt (and match) was yesterday. She's matched 10 of her past 20 (50.0%) and she's matched 25 of her 52 H/H questions overall (48.1%). This is now Betty's 53rd attempt, meaning she's fielded more H/H questions than anyone other than our three regulars. (Next in line is Fannie at 45 questions.)
    *Today's (first) H/H question: "Theatre_______"*
    (My first thought is Theater of the Absurd, but I won't say that. Ticket? Seat? Usher? Marquee? Screen? Theater "ticket" sounds the most general. I'll try that.)
    Betty looks particularly pensive. The champ looks calm. Gene spells the question, and it's the "re" theatre, so I went back and changed the spelling above. Does that affect my answer? In my mind, here in the US, "theatre" implies stage while "theater" implies screen, but not always. A lot of movie theaters back in the day went for the affected -re ending.
    After a longer hesitation than average for her, Betty puts pen to card and writes her answer, quickly shoving it in the slot before she can have second thoughts. I didn't see her get any suggestions or input from any of her colleagues.
    "Ah, that was hard," our champ says. Agreed. She still doesn't seem entirely decided. She finally says "theatre tickets" (wow). The audience reaction is about an 8 on the positivity scale. Something about Betty's eyes tell me that we may have another match...
    I'm wrong. Betty had actually written my second serious answer: "Seat."
    No H/H match today.
    ~~~~~
    The nervous challenger proves victorious. (I'm not convinced a "banker" is really the same thing as a "bank" but let's just ignore that.) Our champion departs after winning four games and $4,400, having scored one H/H match with Betty for $2,500.
    *Today's (second) audience match question: "Tee________"*
    My thoughts: (Time, Off, Shirt)
    The celebs: Charles (Hee), Brett (for Two), Lorna (Off)
    The choice: Off (That was the audience favorite. I'm pretty sure it'll be up there somewhere.)
    The answers: Pee, Shirt, Off - Kudos to Lorna for suggesting the top answer in third position!
    Not a bad start for our newest champion.
    This time the wheel stops on Brett, no double.
    Stats: Brett last played in 1419, and been on an uncharacteristic losing streak, failing to match her last 9 times in a row! (That beats Richard and Nipsey's record of 8 in a row!) Brett has matched 11 of her last 33 attempts (33.3%), and 22 out of her 53 most recent attempts (41.5%). Her overall success rate is 39.4% and this is her 105th attempt. She's only the second celeb (after Richard of course) to answer at least 100 H/H questions, and is probably the last one too. Charles currently has 90, but with only 21 shows left, it's possible, but not likely that he'll reach that 100-question mark...
    *Today's (second) H/H question: "Blue-chip_______"*
    (My first thought is Stock. I can't think of anything else (maybe "company"), so there you go.)
    The audience vocalizes something, but I don't think it was a suggestion. Brett is already writing (a quick start for her). She finishes and pauses a bit to look down at Betty and over at Charles. She seems to say she doesn't like the question (or maybe it's her answer she's not thrilled with) before filing her card. Ding.
    Our champ is ready to go and eagerly answers "Blue chip stamps." (Huh? I remember Green Stamps and Gold Bond Stamps, but I don't think we had Blue Chip Stamps in the Pac NW. Apparently they had them in California, because the audience sure likes the answer. Gene (from the East Coast) is also ignorant of Blue Chip Stamps. (I checked Wikipedia: "The Blue Chip Stamp Company still exists (as of February, 2024) and is located in Pasadena, California. They can be redeemed at the value of $1.80 per full book.") Okay then.
    Wow. Brett's curse is over. It's "Stamps" for the match.
    Brett scores her 42nd H/H match today.
    ~~~Here's our updated leader board showing the 13 celebs with at least 3 H/H matches, ranked by accuracy:
    (An asterisk before a celebrity's name signifies that she or he has "retired" from the show and their H/H stats are now complete.)
    (For tied scores, the one with the greater number of matches is considered to be higher; if the matches are equal, the celeb who first achieved that score goes on top.)
    Orson Bean - 100% (4 matches in 4 attempts).
    (*)Jo Anne Worley - 75% (3 matches in 4 attempts).
    Joyce Bulifant - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts).
    (*)Debralee Scott - 66.7% (4 matches in 6 attempts).
    Charles - 50.0% (45 matches in 90 attempts).
    Gary Burghoff - 50.0% (6 matches in 12 attempts).
    Elaine Joyce - 50.0% (3 matches in 6 attempts).
    Betty - 47.2% (25 matches in 53 attempts).
    Fannie - 46.7% (21 matches in 45 attempts).
    (*)Jo Ann Pflug - 44.4% (8 matches in 18 attempts).
    (*)Richard - 42.5% (373 matches in 878 attempts).
    Brett - 40.0% (42 matches in 105 attempts).
    (*)Bert Convy - 33.3% (5 matches in 15 attempts).
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 1423, excluding the missing/damaged/unavailable episodes: 31, 32, 33, 311, 312, 313, 324, 325, 645, 910, 1024, 1025, 1026, 1027, 1028, 1029, and 1030. (Note: episode 849 was never produced.) These stats do, however, include the H/H results of missing episode 968 as those results were revealed in episode 969. There was no H/H in missing episode 1035, as we learn in 1036. These stats do, however, include results of episodes 1309 through 1317, found on channels other than this one. (For missing episode 1406, the results of the second H/H have been revealed and are included in these stats, but it's unknown which celeb played the first H/H, which was not a match.)
