    Great experiment Dave. Now I did notice your mower deck does not have any rollers at all. My tractor has 2 on each side plus one on the front that prevents the deck from striking any objects as it keeps the deck protected from striking the ground on uneven lawns . Maybe it's just your model but I can't remember seeing a deck without rollers. 😅

      Good day Steve, Thank you very kindly for your OUTSTANDING supportive feed back comment 👍👌😇 I removed them since they were getting stuck everywhere when I was living in Shefford or had fallen down after many year of metal fatigue like I did on this video ( ua-cam.com/video/lN-kNU6gQlk/v-deo.html ) 🚧🚧 No Problems Since Then 😇👌👍🚧🚧 Now for the front part, I have an idea ( extra bumper right in front of it on an incoming WINTER video ) 👍😇 Thank you again Steve Cheers 🍻🍻

      @@RCAFpolarexpress Dave they are not ment to run along the grass while cutting but adjusted high enough to only protect the deck . Maybe you could try them in the upper position. Put the deck to the cutting height you regularly cut at on your concrete floor and have the rollers adjusted about 1/2-3/4 inch below the deck.

      @@SteveRobReviews Thank you very kindly Steve for your explanation 😇👍 I had done that in Shefford ( I had to admit that the green was not even on various places, just simply turning will get the side of the these wheel hang on the grass and tear it up ) But since I'm here now on my small green patch, it might work a shot to try it 🤔😉👍 I'm still awaiting the tare to dry this week re welding them into place won't be to hard or trying an other bigger wheel model perhaps,,, thank you Steve Cheers 🍻🍻

      @@RCAFpolarexpress My lawn is far from perfect.Lots of uneven places. The wheels on the deck really help for uneven areas. One safety tip I do is when you are blowing leafs with your mower is when you are finished either clean all the built up leafs off your deck or if you dont have time leave the mower outside to cool down before putting away. I have heard stories of peoples mowers catching on fire from the overheated spindles on the deck and burning thier shed down. LEAFS ARE VERY FLAMABLE! The only thing I'm on is fresh country air LOL. Or it could be when I get to close to the septic tank and the fumes overwhelm me.

    My solution to prevent rust on a deck was to send the deck off for hot dip galvanising. The deck and mower is now 18 years old and although the mower has had a new engine and many repairs, the deck does not have a single spec of rust on it. I did not paint the deck after galvanising. The mower is a Husqvarna iZ commercial zero turn and has been heavily abused, including using the deck as a grader to push dirt around, still no rust and the deck cleans up really easily with a high pressure water blaster.

    Good video Dave. I have a bit of a contrary opinion about the water. On the deck of my Deere GT235 garden tractor I go with your thinking...I don't ever wash under it because it lives at the Overlook which has very sandy soil. The bottom of the deck is always super clean because it is essentially sandblasted every time I use it. On my Toro ZTR though, it's a different story. I use it at my home and the conditions are very different. My yard is at the low end of our neighborhood and really holds water. Days after it rains the grass can still be wet so I get lots of buildup under the deck, and that buildup holds moisture. However the Toro deck has a washing port which allows me to plug the hose into the top of the deck, turn on the water and run the blades. It's not perfect but it does a pretty good job of cleaning out the grass if I do it right after cutting, and letting it run for a few minutes helps dry out the underside of the deck. My logic is that the grass buildup is going to hold moisture regardless of whether it's from wet grass or from the hose, so I'm better off removing as much buildup as I can. The deck is 15 years old and still in good shape so I think I'm safe. 😉 (BTW, I do clean it fully by hand whenever I sharpen the blades.)
    Great content and good info on coatings! Cheers my friend! 🍻👍😎

      @RCAFpolarexpress  Рік тому +2

      Good Morning Sir, thank you very kindly for your OUTSTANDING VERY WELL WRITTEN Informative Feed Back comment my friend 😇👍👌 For your Mower Deck of your JD I would recommend to apply paint and tar since sand will eat your mower deck over time ( BTW the tractor is 14 yrs old ) My mom use to cut 2.5 acres of grass using the same tractor before I buy it from her and I had around .5 acres to cut when I was living in Shefford ( see these videos ua-cam.com/video/ylOeYCYEw_w/v-deo.html ) and this video too you will see how much rock blasting I had (ua-cam.com/video/lN-kNU6gQlk/v-deo.html) so it was rocky and dusty on my high ground part and wet on the lower portion of it as you can see on my video. I wish that I had new that beford my mower deck was starting to get very tine and putting in jeopardy the structural integrity of the mower deck ( especially between the two spindles ) , I was about thinking using resin and fiberglass cloth but now with these results I'M SO HAPPY, but now I have field tested solution to overcome these problems ( normal version : pain and tar ) ( deluxe version: pain, resin, paint and tar ) and ( Bullet/Rock Proof Version : Paint, mixed resin and fiberglass, paint and tar ) 👌💪😇 Now Sir that was for your John Deere. Now for your Toro mower, yes I do agree about cleaning it after each cut and making shure that you are drying it correctly ( you can put a blowing fan to finish the drying and you will save a lots of gas doing it instead using the engine ). Yes removing the grass is a vital factor for sure, but if you were putting paint and resin the grass will slip out easier ( I can wait to see how the snow will react on my snowblower drum for that since it is resin multi coated !!! ) and that will also protect against corrosion too and the clean part will be mush easier too. Thank you again Sir and have an outstanding week Cheers 🍻

    Obviously your TAR test has worked for you. I use another method of cleaning my mower deck which is opposite to yours :) Without starting a controversy, let me say that
    my 'deck is still rust free and exceptionally clear of grass and debris. I do agree with you that the deck must be kept dry and I use a lot of compressed air and then a fan to keep
    air circulating all around the underside. I bought my Cub Cadet 1046 mower/tractor back in 2006 and it is still in 'tip top' condition.( Free from any and all rust ) Of course storing
    your mower indoors is very beneficial to ANY equipment, isn't it!
    By the way I have to mow some 2 acres of lawn each time, so yes keeping those cuttings off your mower is critical to protecting the steel parts, maintenance is the 'key'!

      Good evening Sir, thank you very kindly for your OUTSTANDING Informative feed back comment. I like your point of view and also ( forgot to mention ) that I do use compressed air to clean after each mowing therapy too. Yes storing the equipment OUTDOOR need an Oil treatment for protection but I also forgot to mention that I keep my humidity lower that 45 % at all time inside my garage. I do think that a good paint and tar for your deck will help to keep the structural integrity since the flying rock, sand does eat up the steel over the years right ? thank you very kindly and have a very nice week Sir Cheers 👍😇👌🍻

    The thing about fiberglass resin is it doesn't adhere to steel or paint real good it'll lift up. After that water will get trapped in-between and while it looks good on the surface underneath it's destroying the metal.

      Good Evening Sir, thank you very kindly for your informative input Sir, but since this fiberglass resin is made for automotive repair it contain more ( gluing ). Now the shape of the lawnmower is sure helping to stay, and with 2 various types of pain underneath help. The other factor is a never expose my lawnmower to water. I use air pressure to clean. Water and Grass is a rusting agent. Now, with they tar over the resin it seal very good the mower deck too. Thank You Very kindly Sir, Ho I forgot to mention, I did fixe with this repair kit my entire skirt all around of my former 1985 Dodge Ram Van B 350 and it stick pretty good for many yrs ( around 9 yrs !!! ) and it was expose to rain, salt and rocks !!! This how I discover the OUTSTANDING advantage of this automotive repair kit Cheers 😇👌👍🍻

    Great video Dave. I’m just wondering what type of tar you used. You mentioned roof tar. Could you give more details on that. And as you say. Never use water to wash.
    Have a good week Dave.
