HOW TO PREVENT GRASS FROM STICKING TO YOUR MOWER DECK WITH SLIP PLATE AEROSOL GRAPHITE LUBRICANT. Not too long ago, I applied SLIP PLATE in a can to my MOWER DECK to see if grass would stick. The coating lasted about 18 MOWS before grass began to really stick! SLIP PLATE saw the video and sent me some AEROSOL cans to try out! In this video, I show you how to apply it and how it held up after one test. Will we get EQUAL or BETTER RESULTS? LIKE & SUBSCRIBE!!!

LONGEVITY REPORT - lasted about 8 mows!
The canned - paint on version of this product lasted about 18 mows!👍
Update, How many mows?
@@jackjacks5480 updated thanks for reminding me!
I have used a lot of mowers in my life, the thing that makes most of the mowers have grass under the deck is how wet the grass is, ie never mow first thing in the morning, that dew covered grass will mess up the underside of your deck, and never after a rain storm. Also another contributing factor is the blade itself. Now all the mowers I have used over the years, the only one that never seems to get grass stuck under the deck is the Snapper High Vac deck with the high lift snapper blade, the reason I said the blade has a lot to do with it, and the blade design, even my Snapper with the high vac deck, with the mulch plug in the tube, it never seems to get grass sticking to the underside of its deck, now unless you use the ninja X snapper blade, I used one the other day, and Omg, there was a line of grass on the underside of the deck right at blade height, I was pissed, it took a long time to clean it off, so no ninja X blade for me. I will have to give that slip stuff a try, and do a video of the results, tks man.
Thanks for sharing this knight hawk! 👍👍
In the real world, that I live in, even when the grass does not have dew or rain water standing in it, grass still has moisture in it that will cause the same effect or worse, since it is not just water, but grass "juice". So even on a hot, dry day, you can still get a wet build-up that can accumulate quickly if you are doing more that a golf course quality lawn. I have to mow where there is thick, tall grass which also has weeds. Some of these weeds are much like succulents, and contain a lot of moisture inside the plant. All this being said, there is nothing going to keep you from having to periodically clean your mower deck. If you don't have a removable deck (riders), accessing the bottom of your deck becomes even more problematic and a more effective coating is needed.
I mow 5.25 acres just about every week from April through October with a Kubota tractor. I had to go with a 54" deck because the 60" deck wouldn't fit on mt 5X8 trailor. The 60 inch deck is actually about 63" to privide a 60" cut.
I'm going to try SLip Plate if I can find it. I will check my local hardware stores forst. If no luck I'll look on line.
Thank you for this video, I hope it preserves my deck and I won't have to clean the deck as often. I' OLD and getting a bit lazy.
It’s worth a shot Gene! 👍thanks for watching!
dont waste your money, he's paid to promote this
@@jagitmax wtf??
I did 2 coats of the paint on, and I had it coming off in certain spots after maybe 4-5 mows, with pressure wash's every other mow. I get a lot of clumping under the deck of my push mower. The non-stick doesn't stick as a perk for me based on my experience. I do believe however it is a great option to help extend the life of your mower deck by preventing rust. Hope there is an update, Thx JB!
Thanks for sharing Alex! I’ll be keeping the longevity report updated!
Thank you for the "Well don't mow when it's wet"-counterargument. I'm from the Netherlands, and I basically wouldn't be able to mow the entire spring and fall if I had to wait for the grass to be dry. I don't think you have a riding mower, but if you do - or know somebody who does, can you try it on the tires too? My front deck mower picks up an insane amount of clippings on the wheels when it's wet, I'd love to prevent that from happening.
Hey tim! You got it! Thanks for being a cool fan from far away! About your question, I would imaging this would rub right off with the constant wheel friction. It would most likely not last one mow. Thanks for watching
great video JB! in the past i've used Jig A Loo graphite lubricant in as can and it worked pretty good.
I’ll have to give that a shot will! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting. I bought my SR 190 after watching your video. Unfortunately it's had that nasty misfiring since. Nowxat 1.5 hrs ( your he meter) I'm returning it to HD. I liked the power jot the issues..
Thanks for sharing this Mike!
Are you considering a pinned longevity report as seen in your Slip Plate coating video? Surely this is better than the ceramic coating video but how does it compare to the Slip Plate video? It's easier to apply for one.
I’m definitely doing a longevity report on this coating SPACE CADET! By the looks of it and how it wore off so far I don’t think it will last as good as the paint on kind but will still give better results than the ceramic! The aerosol definitely went on thinner! We shall see!
Amazon say's currently unavailable, so looked online and found something similar called B'LASTER at my local ace for $7 a can and since I gotta go there today anyways to get a tube of grease for my deck spindles, axles, etc. and a couple of washers for my deck hangers, I'll pick up a can of it and give it a shot...so to speak. Right now the deck is clean as a whistle underneath. Not sure why, unless me mowing all those dry leaves into mulch last fall acted like a sand blaster on the deck, lol.
Perhaps it did! Interesting! Let me know how that can works.
I did the same thing. B’Laster is a common brand we use where I’m from (Oklahoma) and we use many of their products on the farm. Just sprayed my deck tonight
This is one of the my favorite videos. I think this may be a better product to use than the other one you did with the ceramic coating . I think I would do 3 or 4 coats then do a coat or 2 of the paint on hopefully it will hold up better
Thanks for watching and sharing mark!
On the Slip Plate website, in the FAQ section, was a question that specifically mentioned a product called MowerGUARD (in aerosol form) that is just for this spurpose, which was supposed to last for up to 12 mowings before needing a re-coat. However, when searching for it, it does not show up on their own website. Nor does a Google search find this product. Do you know is the product you are using in this video is a replacement for MowerGUARD? I would like to try this because lately, my mower gets so clogged it kills the engine, especially since I've been paying more attention to fertilizing. Thanks!
I doubt this is the actual replacement for mower guard. See if this one can help you out!
Great video JB! I'd be interested in seeing how that works on a snowblower. I used something similar on my Troybilt shoot to keep the slushy snow from sticking. It was great seeing you again. Have a great weekend my friend!
That would be an interesting test! 🤔 great seeing you as well my friend! Enjoy the weekend! 👍
You too!
Wondering this too...
Great info, JB.
My thinking is that for 20 bucks a can for a non-permanent solution (there is no permanent one.....) I'll just keep using my electric pressure washer every 2-3 mows.
And as for snowblower augers, I would put a high-solids ceramic coating up against that Slip Plate any day.
Sorry, Slip Plate. I'm not a fan.
Hey Paul! Everyone has got their thing! What brand of ceramic coating have you used in the past?
@@GarageGear CQuartz & Geyon.
They hold up surprisingly well!
@@paulmysliborski4832 I will be looking into these! Thanks Paul! You Da MAN!👍👍
20 bucks for a non-permanent solution is a no go, but paying 3-4 times that amount for a high solids ceramic, which is also a non-permanent solution, is the way to go?
@@Bluetempo On snowblower augers? Yes.
And I use the leftover ceramic coating from my vehicles, so it is a win/win.
I used Slip Plate on my new mower many years ago. It worked great for about 10 to 16 hours of mowing, but it was applied right over the 'factory paint, which was about the poorest quality paint job I have ever seen. The paint peeled off, leaving bare metal for the grass to stick to.
I would have been better of to sand blast the factory paint first, then Slip Plate it.
I use this on my moldboard plow that I use for the garden and food plots. The plow needs to shine like a mirror to work right, so as soon as I'm done plowing, I clean off any dirt and coat it. Stored under a roof, it will keep the plow from rusting until the next use.
Unlike grease or regular paint, I can plow with no clean up the next time. It will wear off with the dirt pushing over it and leave a great shine.
Thanks for sharing blue!
I have been using ceramic car paint spray for years on my tractor mower as well as snow blower. It is easy and fast and cheap. once of twice a season with no drying necessary just spray and mow. Do the underside of the deck and the chute,
Thanks for sharing my friend!
Have been mowing with 190cc super recycler for two months. Still love it. Works so good my wife has started mowing, electric start paying off in spades!!
Awesome Gary thanks for sharing!
I used air cure cerakote C series on my 44" rider deck to experiment and it worked well. I'm on season 2 and it was the first time I had to use a pressure washer on the deck. granted, its a bit harder to apply than this product, I used a 0.8mm detail HVLP spray gun.
Thanks for sharing Derek
Awesome, buying a can now! ONe thing with my Exmark commercial 21 grass stick so bad, then i scrape the paint off, my heart hurts LOL
I know the pain chris! Have a good rest of your week bud! 👍
Not related to your video, but I’m interested in the benefits of the Gladiator floor tiles. I’m interested in getting some
Hey LL! They are super durable! I have dropped and slammed many things on them with no cracks! If you have any specific questions let me know! Thanks for watching!
Ive been spraying my deck with blaster surface shield on my HRN 216. Usually only has a small ammount of grass thats turned into a smoothie under the deck. Washes out with regular hose. I do it evey 4 or 5 mows. Lots less messy and no crazy shaking or heating up the can haha
Thanks for sharing mud!
Just picked up a 60V 22in Recycler few weeks ago, glad this popped up to remind me!!
Now ya know what to do! ! Thanks for watching!
That’s certainly one way of doing it, but IMO it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Easier to just wet the under deck and coming back in 30 min and scrap it off with a putty knife once or twice a season. I will hand it to you, your video production and presentation was awesome!
Appreciate you J! Gotta have some fun with the equipment ya know! Thanks for being a cool fan! 👍
Thanks, nice Tip!! I noticed some aerosol overspray while you used the product. Perhaps spray outdoors and wear a mask!
Yes definitely a good idea!
Seems like pretty good stuff. might have to check it out!
ROCK ON FLINT! Just do it in a well ventilated area. Stinky stuff!
looks interesting, but who buys a new mower every year & if you do you surely could care less if it rots away. My mower already has some major rust forming around the skirt, will this product work on rust?
Well it does help stop rust from spreading! Thanks for watching
I am a fan of your work. Good information and quality video production.
Thanks for the positive feedback Jay. I appreciate it. Have a great weekend.
I would definitely wear a respirator while applying it
Oh yeah Brady! Definitely has some fumes! Thanks for watching bud!
I gotta find some this stuff, it should make cleanup much faster! Very informative videos.
Thanks for the positive feedback helix!
It would be interesting to see the coated mower compared to an uncoated mower through that same wet grass.
Thanks for sharing
Maybe you could try blow off those spots where the grass stuck with compressed air or blower so you dont need to drag out the bucket and spatula
That’s a good idea Carlos! Noted! Thanks for watching bud!
Would you also recommend this for a 48 inch lawn tractor deck?
I’d recommend this for just about any lawnmower deck! It will make cleaning that much easier! 👍
Brush on stuff is way better. Great videos!
I would agree!
I mow grass for a living
I have no choice but to mow wet grass. I'm gonna try this product. Thanks.
Thanks for watching Jason!
@@GarageGear i see you have other videos of the brush on style graphite. What do you think wourks the best? I mow aprox 10 yards a day 60 a week!! I need something that will halfway hold up. I'm not looking for a miricle product. Just want the best one. The less i have to get under my decks the better. I run 2 zero turns hard
Every day!! Thank you.
That’s the reason there were grass in front of my house against my curb. You washed your mower. 😂
Hahaha all the neighbors love me lol🤷♂️
Thanks! As always great content.
Appreciate you Ed! Let me know if and when you started your UA-cam channel! 👍
I was hoping to see absolutely no grass stuck but it still did a pretty good job.
I was too but yes it still did a pretty decent job! That grass was wet! Thanks for watching SMALLBLOCK!
A a custom molded insert liner made from Teflon material about 1/8” thickness.
Much like laser measurement vehicle floor liners for excellent fitment. A few flat head bolts to hold in and removable for maintenance.
Grass clippings simply would bounce off with out building up.
Sharp blades with adequate tip speed cut blades with a precision edge. 😊
Good idea! 👍
I find that using slip plate or an equivalent product all you need to use for clear up is the air compressor.
Thanks for sharing Neal!
What’s your opinion on riding lawn mowers??
Hey Harold I like them. Just can’t fit them into my garage! Thanks for watching
Home Depot sell AEROSOL GRAPHITE LUBRICANT for almost half the price. I been using it for a few years now. It is the same as slip plate.
I will look into this! Thanks for sharing
What brand?
What would be the cost difference between paint vs spray version?
Hey Brandon! The paint on version is like $40 a can and the sprays are about $20 each!
What are your thoughts on fully coating the blades?
The blades are a very high impact and high friction area. It will come right off 👍
Thank You for Sharing
You got it Ken!
My question is the brush on work better and last longer?
@@user-jx5yq5lj8f the brush on definitely lasted longer
My suggestion before you clean it up with the alcohol take about 600 to 1000 grit sandpaper made for metal and rough it up and spray your slip stuff
Thanks for sharing patrick
You need the saws all can shaker attachment.
Sure do!
What’s your thought on Slip Plate vs Fluid Flim?
Giving fluid film a whirl this season. We’ll see how she does.
@@GarageGear did you know Fluid Film even sells a verison that sprays on black?
Great video very helpful. Here in the uk we have been using good old wd40 and it works pretty good .
May be testing this out this summer
Should I buy a big box store Toro stored on its side? RSVP
I just responded to this
Awesome video and loved it!!
Appreciate the positive feedback sand!
Crab grass seed?!!!!!!!!!!!
For annoying neighbors! lol 😈
I hear people are spraying under their decks with truck bed liner spray. Grass will not stick to it?
I would not recommend that. That stuff traps moisture and creates more rust issues. There’s videos on UA-cam of mechanics freaking out about it. Bad idea! 👎I would avoid it!
@@GarageGear thanks for advice😊
Do you it would last longer if you lightly scuffed the surfaces with sandpaper to get better adhesion?
I’m not a big fan of roughing up a surface on a brand new mower. I tend to let nature run its course.
Round the outside!🤣🤣
Kinda of a common theme in some video ‘round here lol😂👍
what inspection gloves? 🤨
They’re used for all sorts of things…
And commercial landscapers cannot wait for dry days, those mowers take serious ABUSE!
They sure do! I know some landscapers that are busiest on rainy days doing maintenance.
Majic easy slip.
Cheap, effective
Works great!
What are those red plastic things under the deck?
They are called kickers or clip deflectors. 👍
Does this kill bugs in the lawn?
@@wegder no it does not
Interesting product, great video JB!
Worked out well bud! I have a strong feeling the paint on kind will last longer but time will tell! Have a good weekend!
It doesn't work on Italian grass.
Thanks for sharing
Pour espresso on the deck
Try spraying on layers 😂😂
Not a bad idea
Doesnt last and waste of time and money. I tried it on my Honda HRX 217HYA.
Thanks for sharing this Shane! Have a good week my friend!
Sounds like EXPENSIVE "snake oil". If you read the Amazon reviews, it shows the product wearing off very quickly! I see these "hyped up" products all the time. I have been using "fluid film" at $10 for 11.75 oz can for quite some time. Works well and as a bonus, it will STOP rust from forming instead of just creating a "slippery" surface for a short time!
Thanks for watching
Do not cut grass when wet.😊😊😊😊I never ever washed the deck of my lawn mower ,50yrs.🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Seems like a nice product. I wonder if it work well on a snowblower. Great job and review JB. 👍🙏👍🙏Have a bless day🙏🙏🙏
I think we’ll have to give it a shot come winter time! Have an awesome weekend my friends 👍👍
Just use Pam. He he!
May be doing a video on this! 👍
What are those red painted hardware pieces

Those are the recycling kickers.
Ok geez, this does not look worth the effort unless you're running a lawn mowing business
Thanks for sharing
Just like the trailer park girls.
‘Round the outside!👍
I need this for my Home corn picker heads! I don't know what they do but, hey, ....it's listed on the can. 🌽🌽🌽
Hahaha I imagine they pick A LOT of corn lol! Pretty impressive stuff. I wonder If I spray this on my dishes will my eggs in the morning not stick? 🤔
@@GarageGearGarage gal will love that she don't need to wash them dishes anymore. 😅 🥴
@@SpaceCadet4Jesus believe it or not I’m the one doing the dishes! It’s how I pay my rent lol 😂😉
12 Oz is about $20 LOL

Or you could just use fluid film
So I hear I will test this out!
Wonder how it would work with snow… Will another test be happening?
I think one might just be happening Gary! Have a great weekend bud!
