Sealing A Gourd Water Bottle - Bees Wax
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2023
- Sealing a Gourd Water Bottle with Bees Wax is not a difficult task. Once the Gourd Water Bottle is crafted...heat bees wax, pour it in, move wax around and pour it out. The first couple drinks could generate a slight waxy taste, but it will eventually fade. Avoid direct sunlight or over exposure to the sun as the wax can soften and water can penetrate the gourd walls.

I'm from Eldoret, Kenya, East Africa.
We use gourds for Mursik here.
Mursik is fermented milk, also called maziwa mala in Swahili.
Do you guys coat the gords or just use them as is?
@John These days, we use sand paper to smothen the interior before use, but im not sure if we've ever coated them.
I like to use a green branch or vine twisted up inside the gourd to scrape out all the gourdmeet. I find that actually works a little bit better than placing rocks or pebbles inside and shaking it to get all the seeds and gourdmeet out.
My husband wanted some gourds about 3 years ago and I bought seeds and grew some for him thar summer. He makes musical instruments from them.
Awesome. I’ll have a new and full gourd video coming this month. Appreciate you watching!!!
Gourd-gous Donny ! Cheers brotha !
Boil gourds in half bee/paraffin at 350° for 10 minutes. Heats the gourd pores up and it sucks the wax in. Doesn’t matter how hot it gets outside they will never ooze wax and will last damn near forever.
Hi Donnie, thanks for the info ! Loved it ! Beeswax is a wonderful resource. Thanks for the knowledge !
Wax on, wax off Donny san
This is good stuff. Definitely needs a book so it can last for years to come. I would buy volumes of survival books from u.
Thank you
Super cool stuff love this 👍
Almost at a million subs big man, keep going
Such clean cutting lines on that gourd with your rock! So skilled! /s
straight up tooth marks from a saw
Donny I don’t know if you might see this but as a marine I’m curious how you would equip a paleo-marksman for battle from weapons to canteen to rations to footwear snivel gear etc.?Semper -Fi 🦅🌎⚓️
Back pack.

I'd love to see this video made! It was important for them to know how to war and garden. But how did the primitive peoples balance all their equipment?
All a Paleo-Marine needs is a knife for weaponry and a PT belt for armor
Muy buen video gracias por sus enseñanzas! Solo una pregunta la cera de abeja no causa daños a la salud al estar en contacto con el agua por largo tiempo.
Hey Donny I’m a huge fan and was watching how you make arrow heads and blades and I wanted to ask how long did it take you to learn this skill I’ve always wanted to learn since I was like 12 and I’m 25 now and skill have no clue how to even start so any advice would be great. Also love the videos you are very knowledgeable and very entertaining to watch can you do a longer video on blades and arrows out of rocks
There is a variety of Gourd that grows to a very large length. I have some here that reach almost 0.6 meter. It can carry a lot of water.
Thanks brother, can’t wait to harvest my gourds, think I have about 30 on the vine right now. Hope all this rain doesn’t lead to a fungus or a rot of some sort 🤙🏻
Gourds will start getting mold on them as soon as they ripen, whether you leave it on the vine (and sometimes they fall off) or take it off and dry it elsewhere. Unless the moldy area is soft, don’t worry! It’s supposed to do that and is fine in all kinds of weather.
The guy’s basically moist critical’s father
Thank you I was wondering what would be a good product to seal the inside of the water bottle now I know six stars brother
God damn I love stone age Santa Clause
🤣❤️🥰🤣🤣❤️🥰🤣🤣 mee too!
Question - Wax in the wild is hard to get in many places. So it made me think could some tree sap or pine pitch be used instead? Would the water turn toxic? Or be potable...
Very nice video!!! Interesting, educational and helpful at being able to take care of yourself !
❤️
Made a good dipper when I was a kid.
After sealing my gourd, how should I go about cleaning it after several uses or what’s is the best course of action
can you just coat the outside with wax?...or seal the inside with rice congee like earthenware pottery? can you use an untreated gourd as a water filter drip?
I bought this cool Chinese gourg bottle online and it's pre-waxed with beeswax but I noticed that the taste of beeswax started showing up after a couple of hours of carrying water. What can you do to make the taste better or should I just re-wax the gourg myself?
Nice video 👌 i do that
Thanks for the lessons and tips!
I wonder if pine pitch would work too? And would coating the outside too, help preserve it longer?
Pine pitch should work but will have a bit of a taste to it haha
@@nocsha4119 yeah it would more than likely. ☺️👍
Many yeas ago my parents told me about an ancient thing called a water thief made out of two gourds. But I find no reference to the term on line or anywhere else. Are you aware of that and are there any videos of how it works?
👍
Could you do a video on field medicine? Specifically an antiseptic?

🙂
seems like it might need 3 or four coatings of wax to be fully waxed inside.
I don't know how I feel about the beeswax. It's a nice (and good smelling) ressource, but the only beekeeper in my family allways talks about how polluted old beeswax is.
I trust her quality beeswax, but I would not mold candels or coat things with random wax.
Does this coating last for years? Foes it need recoating?
I wax coated wood, but nothing that stays in constnat contact with water
A very fascinating old method!
Could you cut a gourd in half, scrape off any gourd meat, apply wax, and seal it back up?
Please say just kidding…
Do you mean to use as sort of a Tupperware container? Or to use as a water bottle? If the first option, yeah that might work to keep stuff fresh and relatively air tight. But if you’re talking about the second option, the cut would be wayyy weaker than the rest of the gourds and would be basically useless
I think that it possibly could work if was a good clean cut with placement of the cut being so both sides married back up nicely and then finished off by tightly wrapping the exterior of the gourd with sinew or animal skin sheath.
I wanna make-a da gourds
Might as well use a roto brush that attaches to a power drill to get that meat out, or just a regular cup or scrubber
Have you tried heating the gourd first, time in the sun?
Liken my lesson's.
If I wanted to finish my days living the Sacred way...would I go nomadic or settlement?
Region=south park
theres no way you cut that open with a rock and had those flat edges, nice saw work for sure lol
Can you make something you really need
