The build started from a stock Sur Ron XX Ludicrous edition from Luna Cycle. A regular Sur Ron X dirt ebike has a controller with a peak output of 80 amps. Luna Cycle took the stock controller and doubled the amp output on the Sur Ron XX Ludicrous edition electric dirt bike. The power increase on the Sur Ron XX made it a great candidate for an electric dirt bike build platform.
The first modification was the wheels. Woodys Wheel Works built an 18" rear and 21" Excel combo wheel set for this bike. The 18" allows you to fit a standard knobby moto tire on the rear which provides much better traction than the stock tires. Woodys needed to dish the wheel over so that it does not hit the chain (kickstand removal is required). Up front, the Sur Ron sports a 21" Excel Wheel which provides better rolling over technical terrain.
The fork is a FOX 40 downhill mountain bike fork and the rear shock is a FOX DHX RC4 using the standard DNM coil from a stock Sur Ron. Both the fork and shock were revalved by Dirtlabs Suspension.
The XC Gear Hammerhead 360 stem is a dampened stem that allows the bars to move in 360 degrees. This allows some relief for your wrists and takes out sharp edge hits. The XC Gear stem is mounted to Pro Taper 3" rise bars that are cut to 790mm. The handlebars are mounted to Pro Taper pillowtop grips.
The foot pegs are from Flo Motorsports and have a much wider platform and aggressive pin pattern compared to stock.
The brakes are stock but the pads have been upgraded to Shimano H03C brake pads and an Ice Tech floating front rotor from Shimano. These both provide better stopping power for the stock brakes.
Lastly, a cosmetic upgrade is the ODI front number plate to cover up the gap in between the FOX 40 fork and headset.

Which typedrivemotar
This is the exact set up one needs for an aggressive riding terrain. Great breakdown. Thank you.🤙
Thanks for pushing the possibilities! Exciting times ⚡
Thanks for sharing what you learned along the way. The thing looks amazing
Sick build! Can't wait to get my Sur Ron x
Tyres are off the hook AWESOME
This is the best looking Sur Ron LBX build I’ve seen on UA-cam. Saved and subscribed. Thanks.
It's starting to look like a legit weapon for racing!
Thank you for all the work you do. This looks amazing
@Aaron Kent I appreciate that note man! 👍
Very awesome build, love the videos please keep them coming! only thing I would want is a headlight, and she looks perfect!!
Awesome, I would like a bit more information as to how that rear tire got mounted up though, maybe a separate video with more details 😊
Thank you for saying the 21 inch wheel fits on a 26 inch fox fork, now I know finally, those bar clamps are sick along with the entire build, and great video as always... I wish you could buy these bikes straight like this ✌🏼
@Auto-Mobile Detailing Awesome, thanks man!
Looks Awsome.
I keep looking out my window to see if mine has turned up yet..should be here any moment 😎
Great in depth video! Really appreciate the time.
@Shannon S Thank you for writing, appreciate it! 👍
Awesome, Tucker! Definitely some similarities with my old SurRon. Looks sweet!
@Introvert Adventurer For sure! 👍
Thank you for sharing.. I'm still trying to figure out the best and least expensive way to get ahold of a Sur-Ron.
I would love to own this bike as is. I would creep of into the deep woods with a smile on my face.
Great detailed video here. Thanks.
Just learned about the Kollter
Banshee ebike. I would love to see a review if you can get your hands on one. I enjoy your channel. Always excellent content. Cheers and Thanks!
I only understand 26" BLABLABLA XG BLABLA 22 BLABLABLA 34" BLABLABLA - but the bike looks awesome! Want this!
Great work, really thank you!
Very nice build !
Best build yet!! 🤘🏼
@Derry Malloy 👊
Man! This thing looks Good!😀👍👍✌
Looks great
Sick man,love it
@Matthew Smith 🤘
Beautiful Build dude!!!
@Fuel MX Thanks man!
Very cool kit on your bike. I will now try the Hammerhead stem since it's not a direct mount. I avoided those because when I crash (!) I like the fact that my bars have some give around its axis so that my forks don't get tweaked so much. I'd rather have some pivot around the stem so now I'll try the HH mount. I totally agree about the rims too. I switched mine long ago. And dishing the rim is easy and can be done to move the wheel to the left. Just patience and a great spoke wrench is all that's needed. Although not NEARLY as critical on a dirt bike as a road racer, alignment of front to back wheel tracking will affect handling just a tad. But dishing the rear so as not to rub the chain is well worth the slight alignment difference. When you visit you can ride Jackson. No wheelies or crashing him though!
@Mark Kitaoka Yeehaw!
Aloha. I know Blane also. I have put an 18 rear on my bike and yes the kickstand rubbed where the spring connects to it. My fix is i ran the spring knob out an 1/8 inch and moved the spring hook in the groove. Then i cut of the part where the spring was hooked on and it clears alot. Still able to utilize the stand.
Looks great!
Yeah it looks good those wheels and knobbys set it off
Best I've seen so far
I would add a good mug guard in the front and it will ready for the ama motocross championship:))
Some of them do not sure why only some
Sick!!
Amazing 👍
This video helped me so much! Did you only have to change the rotor on the rear? I just got the 21 inch front and 18 inch back wheel from woodys. I am about to set them up but am having a hard time figuring out what tires to get and also what other parts I need to accommodate for the upgrade. I have seen people get a rear link upgrade. Did you do that to yours? Also did you have to get anything special for the new wheels? I have fox 40 27.5 that I am going to be setting up with the 21 inch front wheel. Emoto bros said that you needed some special piece to work with the new rotors that are needed, but The used wicked wheels so I didn’t know if that was only an issue with theirs.
Needs a Punisher logo on the number plate. Sweet bike. Would buy one if I could find one!
Your bike is gorgeous 😍
couple questions...how are all the bushings,bearings holding up in these surrons?rear suspension linkage and stuff?also,how many volts,kw will the motor take being going nuke?
Excellent build and awesome video! Can’t wait to find forks my my 72V Surron build!
u should do the bigger wheels/tires too man!
Im not suprised to see you here, i was going to go ask if you had the pegs:P
GrindHard in the wild! keep up the good work Edwin! Have you been dropping any tracks lately?
@Edwin Olding Thanks dude! 🤘
If you are a normal person and can't afford Fox 40's, you are better off doing a CR85 or YZ85 front end swap. I put on Manitou Dorado forks and they are waaay too flexy, and that's with the stock tires. Can you imagine the stress and flex brought on when you upgrade wheels and tires?
Really like your channel. This bike looks awesome. For brakes try some Hope tech 3 v4 with the floating calipers. They have excellent modulation and serious bite.
@Trajan FPV Thanks man! I appreciate it. Yup some Hope brakes would be sick! 👍
I like it! I would add a front fender too.
@Gareth Crothers 👍👍
Working great, very fast
Hey Electric Cycle Rider, sick build! quick question with the woodys wheel works rims & woodys hub do the front & rear rims come with new spacers for the front and rear?
Or do you need to reuse the OEM Sur Ron front & rear spacers?
This might be the nicest surron out there.
@Pete Senn 👍
Wondering is it the outside knobbys that rub or the sidewall of the new rear tire? (before mods that is)
If you decide to upgrade the brakes at some point, go with the TRP DHR Evo downhill brakes. These things are a beast of a brake and you will never feel underpowered.
@WKB Visuals I'll check those out, thanks for the recommendation!
Have you seen the toepeak m1 front fork carrier? Was wondering if it would fit a sur Ron with no fender with rst killah forks..? For getting groceries and whatnot
Ill be getting mine in the next few months with the bac4000 n upgraded battery
Its very beatifull
Can you use 21" tires both front and back? I intend to use mine to bottle hunt so I need range. I'll be in heavy woods mostly
now u need the abs plastic indestructable skid plate from the aussies...i'm waitin 4 mine
It's basically a moto 😍😍😍
Thanks for making this vid, Im looking at building one of these. Do you know if there is anywhere to buy the frame and swing arm?
It looks like you are at Croom in Fl.
Can't go wrong with the Fox 40 up front. Have you seen the new 2021 Update?
Nice setup, to what degree has this setup affected range?
I'd like to run an 18x2.15 rim on my Stealth but can't get a narrow enough tyre to fit. I've considered a 19 with a 70/100 x19 tyre like the Drill One but this is a front tyre that I don't think will hold up well like you mention.
Nice bike! Im surprised you don't have the foot peg brace. Do you think it is necessary?
Should have just asked me again to build your wheels like last time. Have been doing this set up for over a year now for many customers using my billet aluminum EMX GEN2 (36 or 32 hole)SUR-RON/SEGWAY rear hub. Unlike the stock rear SR hub my rear hub is a 6-bolt MTB disk bolt pattern so you can run whatever you want. Like the thicker SRAM 220mm CENTERLINE ROTORS. They are 2.0mm thick not 1.7mm like most MTB rotors and make a massive difference with stock brakes performance. Yes new pads help and replacing the stock brake hoses with JAGWIRE hydraulic hoses gets rid of hose expansion witch the stock brake hoses are none for. Looks like they used heavy 10 gauge spokes on your wheels? Probably because they needed a big spoke nipples to fit the EXCEL TAKASAGO rims. I’ve got super high quality WICKEDWHEELWERKS MOTO-X brass spoke nipples that are specifically designed to use 2.6mm(12 gauge) spokes with a large 10.5mm head for DID ,EXCEL & other MC rims with large 8mm spoke holes. They other guys who built your wheels might have a pretty website and build many nice full sized MC wheels,but the midsized EV market is ALL I’ve been doing now for many many years. E-MOTO BRO’s are going to be my sole distributor for my WICKEDWHEELWERKS EMX PRODUCT LINE of wheel and driveline parts.
Your SRX looks more like a great midsized EV now. I would really recommend SUR-RON SHOPS new shock 30mm longer and different angle linkage. Designed to correct the bikes geometry now that a 21” is up front. Always great videos keep it up! -jn
hey do you have a facebook, you said you build wheels right?
Great build. Do your wheels from Woody's Wheel Works have the "Supersize" spokes and spoke nipples? According to their website "Supersizing uses over-sized spokes and nipples to create a stronger and more durable wheel." Do you think this is necessary?
Check out the Jagwire Elite Cooling pads.
Do you change your back wheel to a smaller wheel when you put on the 19? Or can you run thee 19 with the 18? Also what tire do you run with the 19? Thank you for your help! This build is bad awesome!
Ok so at woodys the wheels come with heavy duty spokes and aluminium nipples but then they have a option for supersize spokes and nipples which one did you get?
Also did you use oem hubs or billet?
Love the build bike is awesome like WoW 👀
Hi really cool ride.
I'm really close to buying a surron myself. I have been looking a lot at KTM Freeride E-xc but it's a bit over my budget.
Adding up the total cost of the surron bike+ all of your mods. I just can't stop wondering if going for a stock KTM Freeride E-xc instead would be a better option.
That thing looks insanely fun!
💞🤪 Ohhh crrraaappp!!! Now I want one!!!
👍👍 Thank you!!!
Maybe I missed it but what are you using for the fork triple tree to hold the 40mm shocks. Is it stock or did you use an MX triple tree
How is the rear tire now? Rubbing? I'm looking for the same set up. XX? Any idea where I can get one? Thanks
U need to moto that beast. Looks like it can handle the 60-80 footers at the local tracks around me in NE OH and Western Pa.
@Mike Tirak Man, I hit the track with it this week... still coming up short on lots of the jumps! Sketchy! Haha
Awesome build. The only thing it’s missing is a front fender. I know there’s not much out there, especially with it needling clearance for the fork brace, but coming up with something that mounts to the bottom of the steertube would look primo! Get a black supermini fender, cut it up and fab a bracket that clears. Cheers.
Ya man! I can’t find a front fender for the life of me!
@Jas Kro For sure!
I had the Fox 40 and older version of the rear shock on my Stealth Electric Bomber some years ago. Fox 40s are incredible shocks...I put 82,000 km on my Stealth and the Fox 40s didn't need to be rebuilt the entire time.
When are u making a video for racing and riding this bad boy?
Do you need to change the chain if I change the front & back tires to do ones you have ?
I ride a 300 TPI and love it but if I want to dabble with electric should I even consider this at 6"4 and 240 or is a KTM Freeride more realistic? Or are none of them right for bigger folks?
More amps, same battery, same motor, what's the range?
Just wondering, would the dirtbike style fender still fit with that front wheel?
Killer bike, would love to see how it handles a big hill.
@John Berry It'll be coming back to Colorado with me and I will do just that.
I can’t find your video on getting the fox fork
4:56 there is a thicker one, the BOS obsys, it have 42mm stanchion
Man, looks fuckin killer. About to get a Surron and I’m def doing all these mods as well.
@mckay kimball Awesome! 👍👍
Putting a shorter swingarm spring bolt should do the trick if you want to put that back on... and a non o ring chain helps free up a tiny bit of space in the rear
@Mr E Cool, thanks man!
YesSiRr!! WoW!! WattA Beast!! Lol! Awesome looking machine Mate! Mite be too professional of a bike for a beginner like meself🤣😭😎👊👍💯 but always appreciate the run down bro! Ur an Awesome Ryder Mate, you make it look sO Bloody Easy.. dat it's nOt fair!?! LoL!🤣😆😭😭😲🔫! Oh well.. practice makes perfect.. i think?!? N.eWays Stay Bless and Stay Safe out there Mate!!✌💯🔥!
@FILZ F Appreciate that my man! It's a fun bike to ride for sure. 🤘🤘
Pleeeeaase do a comparison with the cyberbike from Ladi on UA-cam!
Did you go 18x1.85" or 18x2.15" on the rear wheel?
I’m running the Maxxis M7310 maxxcross sx 100/90/19 in the rear and works great.
@Albert That's a nice option too!
hi,with original rims?
Hi there,
Great mods and super informative! Question- What does the xx feel like to ride on eco mode? Does it reduce the power to around that of an X on sport? It seems like the xx could get bit twitchy with all of that torque in situations where less power is more.
@Frank Basile It feels much like the X does on Eco. Not a big difference there.
Nice
never thought id see it so rubber heavy
What batteries have you run on the XX controller
Wheels look good!
im running 16'' on the rear for me 90/100/16 fits perfect.
@Junior Ellis Right on, thought about trying that size too. Does the bike remain well balanced? I imagine you're running a 19" up front?
@@ElectricCycleRider Yep well balance brother, and yeah stock front 19"
Just wondering if that’s the battery that came with the bike?
Please keep posting
@Aaron Kent Always more coming 👍
Do you find that regen does anything for you? You have urs off by chance
No issues not running a front mud guard?
do you have the rear linkage that raises the rear?
I want that one
What are good tires for road surfaces?
U got real tire n wheels on there
Wicked whip!
