  • As electrification of the Peninsula mainline between San Francisco and San Jose inches further and further to completion, more Stadler KISS160 Electric Multiple Units are making their way into California. On 2/13/24, two EMU sets rolled through the area running as SSCCL.
Originally, 2 GEVOs were the power for the run over Donner Pass, and an additional SD70ACe was added to the point for the rest of the trip to Santa Clara. Arguably, this was the better leader, but it also delayed the departure of the train out of Roseville until last light.
While waiting for the Caltrain sets, several other trains are seen at McClellan Park, and Antelope. The SSCCL followed California Zephyr Train 5 over Donner Pass, and the Amtrak train is seen at McClellan along with ZG2LT. After the 2 trains at McClellan we relocated to Antelope, where the LRS59 is seen prior to the Caltrain sets making their appearance, blasting out of the yard, as they cross over for running on the number one track into Sacramento.
Enjoy this great afternoon of trains in the Sacramento area!
