This video is hands-down, the most informative Salomon Forces video on the internet. Keep up the good work! Ps, im convinced the XA Forces are the best law enforcement boots on the market.
My wife's favorite shoes to hike with are Solomon. So much so, it's the only shoe we've bought extra pairs of for her before because she'd wear out the tread on them. I never thought about trying them myself. Just been happy wearing Keen for so many years. I'll give them a try with my next purchase. That's absolutely amazing how long those boots last! Thank you!
I have a couple pairs in different colors of the forces 2 in tan and ranger green ! Love them ! My ranger green pair 3 full years of abuse and still great condition with amazing ankle support which is a must ! Love them !
Rich (and those interested in the Quest 4Ds), Funny thing before ever seeing your review, our family (for me) actually got the Quest 4D’s you picked up first, except with the higher ankle support. Sadly, the boot barely even lasted me 3months. Now the year we got them was 2024, and kindly enough Salomon refunded us in full - details of review on their webpage. Some other guys also purchasing that boot sadly experienced even worse failures than what I had (rear heel stitch completely coming apart). For me, after 3mo, the location at the balls of the feet had opened where the toe box and sole meet to the leather. I did a water tub test where water would not dry out of the boot in a warm ventilated area until 3days. The water also would surround the goretex lining and since it would be inside the boot, it actually weighed 2x more than what its original weight was. Salomon QC may easily have missed this because, you don’t really know until you know, but hopefully they’re working on fixing this boot model. Just a thought to share because considering boot costs and lifetime a big thing, we were looking forward to the Salomon’s lasting that ~5-6yr range possibly. But, considering the amu of failures they seem to have had recently, we’ve reconsidered. For those still interested and you get some good boots, glad for you. 👍🏼
I purchased a pair of Quest 4D Forces (non-GTX). Great boots and lasted a couple years of hiking and K9 training in the Northern Nevada BLM. The boots held up quite well for a couple years. In the Winter it gets extremely cold in the high desert and with a good pair of socks you're GTG with these boots. Now I've decided to try the X Ultra 4 Mid GTX boots.
@@juancecaicedo3343 Hello, I opted to continue with my Lowa Renegade GTX even though they are getting a little long in the tooth. The X Ultra may be a purchase in the Spring.
I’ve used the mid XA Forces in coyote for work the last couple years. I’ve worn them on a lot of hikes too. Hands down the best boots I’ve ever had. Durable, comfortable, lightweight, and very breathable (I always go non-GTX because my feet get hot easily).
Very good presentation and review! Definitely in line with my own experience and Tx for pointing out the difference between the models (have been using the speedcross and xa forces for over 600 km/370 miles) through challenging terrains.
Hey rich, I was wanting to get your opinion on if you prefer the quest boots or the newer ultra boots, and maybe which one you think would be better for a LEO thanks!
Love solomon. As long as they stay clear of Vibram ill continue to buy but Vibram sux and slips on rocks when solomon uses rubber that sticks to everything.
Excellent Video with good points of review and a great 📽camera work ! We appreciate the time you guys took to make this video. Indeed... it's a good competitive brand and comfortable and as always, it all depends in which environment we are working. Straight forward. Keep it up ! Slow n Smooth Smooth is Fast Cheers
You should not rely on the exterior as the determining factor for a boot or shoe to be worn out. The interior will breakdown much faster with sweating, heat trapped inside and the weight of your body. You should look at the miles worn and replace based on that over anything else unless the exterior just falls apart. Your feet may be suffering without you realizing it.
The "hiking" version of the Quest seems like it is not as good as my last pair. I've had the Forces version recommended to me since I work outside and put a lot of miles on my footwear. Sadly, my quests finally blew out in a couple places so I've been trying to replace them. Thanks for the rundown.
Excellent content. Thanks. Can you speak to the fit? Should I size up or are they consistent with other brands? Looking at the Speed assault 2 GTX for range days here in SWFL.
G’day Rich from Australia! I had a pair of speed cross 3’s and the sole wore out quite quickly. You did mention a softer compound sole. I thought it was just me (I’m a big guy) and was wearing them in Dubai where it was sub 50C temps in urban areas. Keep up the great work.
I have the XA Mid Forces, they're slightly narrow. Are the quest 4d's the same width? Ive heard theyre a little wider but no one can confirm. They don't come in wide sadly.
Thanks for this review, it is a decent one indeed. I’m trying to make a choice between the Quest 4gtx en and the XA gtx en model. Now after some months after the initial review - what are your impressions from the XA? Which one you would go for? Thanks!
Been reading up on new boots, I'm out of the Marines now but while I was in I stepped on a sharp stick that went straight through my boot, dont really want that happening again.
I’ve only been a fan of the Ultra 3’s but they still didn’t last very long. I have a pair of the Ultra 4’s and they started falling apart a few months in right where the fabric was ultrasonic welded to the rubber/hypalon which would cause rocks and dirt to accumulate in the pockets and wear holes in the shoes.
On the contrary i size up half size because i tend to hurt my toes on downhill and they perform great. If that doesn't bother you then stick to your true size.
I have two pairs of Salomon forces. XA mid gtx and XA hi GTX. BOTH of them, not even after one year, have developed a squeaky noise that comes from under the boots at every step I take. I have been told the sole inside must have come detached and water leaked into it. I'm not impressed for such expensive boots.
@Rich Graham - In your opinion, do the Forces line of boots run a bit smaller in the sizing than the regular Salomon boots? I'm usually US 10.5 and when I tried on the XA forces mid in 10.5 (UK10), it felt a bit tight. the next size up (UK10.5)was a bit more comfortable, but I was concerned that it was going to pack out and become sloppy.
Been wearing XA for years, saw the Quest was on sale and bought them, they seem to run smaller than an XA. Anyone else experience this? Is it the GTX layer? Or do they actually wear tighter?
I did have a pair of Keen's previously. Not sure if it was the Zionic line but it had a higher arch and was uncomfortable for me as I have a very low arch.
i could never do the og keens because of the width of them however, the zionic line is different. No doubt solomons are comfortable, they just don't last in my experience. @@RichGraham
Great review. I'm on my 4th pair of Belleville 533st boots. Trying to support American made, but the last 2 pairs have terrible insoles, and the material in the shank tears 6 months in. I'll check Salomon out. Any recommendations for a gym shoe?

I have some keens. Different design philosophy...your keens are really for the trail. Solomons are a bit more versatile.

Mine seems to wear quick-ish.

That’s all I have is multiple pairs of Salomon. Best and lightest. I have the quest also and the X Ultra 3 and 4
I was looking to buy a pair of Salomon's but was not quite sure what to settle on. This helps me make an absolute decision. Thank you.

Which would you use for commercial diving with fins, and walking on the hard a lot?
If you had to choose between XA Forces vs Quest 4D Forces ? [for military/SHTF scenaro] Thanks
Quest 4D F are a lot more durable and offer more support which I prefer.
Thanks for the info

Will it stop an axe attack to the top of the foot? Asking for a friend 😅
Haha! We did accidentally test that out, and no the speed cross and assault lines are not axe proof!

Speedcross are slippery af! Great in the dry and mud. Crap in Target 🎯

Keens Zionic line doesn’t have solid colors for military or Law Enforcement use.
