I used to be a creed hater. My brother had his faith renewed and I got clean and sober soon after. Finding God and accepted Jesus Christ as my lord and savior saved my life. Now I really appreciate creed, not only for the music and the lyrical content (which is amazing) but also that as a band they’ve gotten so much hate (much like Jesus did) and still manage to make such amazing and touching music. Creed rocks!
Well, I am an atheist, so their message doesn't particularly appeal to me, but I recognize good music when I hear it. Higher might be one of my favorite nineties mainstream rock songs. I'm not going to hate on Creed just because I don't share their beliefs, there's been too much of that lately.
I respect your commitment. I believe the truly wicked (those without a conscious) are those among the cursed. Mistakes... can be used as a learning tool... what doesn't work, growth, consequences etc... A hardship gives us empathy, strength and help others through... I spoke at conferences how wrong choice caused loss, pain, tears. However this gave me the ability to help others in the same situation because I been there. U truly don't understand actions till it happens to you. Repentance and Gods Word give me wisdom.
As a Christian, I struggle with depression & suicidal thoughts. I beg God to take those thoughts away & only hope I don’t give the demons the keys to over power me. Jesus loved me so much He gave His life for me. This song reminds me I’m not alone, that we do face spiritual warfare but we also create these things in our heads. I’m guilty of that for sure. What an amazing song. 🖤
Totally agree and this song really explains today’s issues in our society. We have all the technology to be connected but we are further apart than we have ever been! Stay safe stay strong we have some dark days ahead!
I remember those hopeless nights listening to this song in my motel room, alone and broken by my own poor choices. I went into a drug induced psychosis twice and I've overdosed once, and whenever I slipped into the drug induced mania I used to think to myself " I created my own prison..." 7 months clean and I named my son Gabriel ❤
Goodnight! The HOLY SPIRIT envies me here to tell you that JESUS loves you very much! HE has a wonderful plan for your life! In his message you say that you have been clean for seven months, because know that only in HIM, in his endless mercy, do we find strength to be healed ministers. I know this because I went through a similar process. I gave up my life and gave myself over to alcohol and other prisons of darkness. I had found "My Own Prison". It was then that JESUS extended his mighty hand to me and showed me his incomparable Love. I've never known love like this! Believe in the name of JESUS. Surrender to HIM! Open your heart, confess JESUS as your only and sufficient Savior and pray asking the LORD to come into your life and help you. The HOLY SPIRIT will help you in the most, believe me! Matthew 11.28-29 "28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

One of the best bands ever. Don't care what anyone says. These guys helped me through some darkness. They brought light where only darkness resides. "Higher" and "my own prison" are instant classics to me. Don't understand all the haters....
Same here man. I'm a Gen X kid. They got me through some very bad times in my life. As a man, I wonder if it's the message of God in their songs. Could be.
This shit always went hard!! People are too afraid to step outside of themselves to look into that self reflection and see their true vulnerabilities for what they are. The truth lies beyond the fear and darkness and we all spend alot of energy avoiding what we need to go through to get back to that light
Was in the military when this came out. It blew up around the country and on base i was stationed at. Took me months to realize how profound the lyrics were to Christianity.
That’s the beauty of the media… they can easily hide this fact from all of us! There are a bunch more bands that y’all would be surprised are also singing to God!
As a troubled teenager I used to listen to this song and loved the 'darkness' of it. Today, I really understand the message of this song and I feel so blessed that He has pulled me out of the darkness and helped me accept Christ. In faith I look forward to meet Him! GBY for adressing such an important message in this song, please never hesitate to accept Jesus as your Saviour!
The songs not about judgement day, it’s about Scott stapp having a bad high and was stuck in hell and when he sobered he realized his way of life was sinful, so he says he cries out to God
@@jordan1318to a christian if we feel its about judgement day and it lets us worship Jesus with his song , its not the real meaning behide the song if a christian feels its about Jesus and makes worships about it then its ok , maybe the song has two meanings but anyways we all can see our own meaning on things
Damn I miss this era so much…..the music, the women are so beautiful and natural, the friendships…..everyone just seemed to love life more back then. Nostalgia, one hell of a drug.
I miss my dad and I remember he loved creed. I recall hearing it on the radio and him getting into them so much when we would go out together. I miss him dearly and they help me connect with him a bit now.
I requested this song to be played at my fathers funeral last February when his life was taken from cancer…. The crazy part is the moment I walked through the doors to the funeral home this song started playing… it wasn’t playing already.. the moment I walked in it started playing… this song will always have a place in my heart.. even before my dads passing I grew up around rock..
Me too. Don't like your handle. I get it! Answer this question if you want to. Why (I'm assuming), are Christians so judgemental, when their taught GOD will take care of it.
Me too. I still remember when I heard this masterpiece for the first time. I was washing dishes, listening to rock radio station of my town (Enseada FM 94,3 Santos-SP/Brazil) and the opening chords echoed through my house...I stopped everything and picked up every note of the song. A magical moment...
Sometimes the trendy thing to do is hate a group for no reason other than people repeat what they hear from others. It has more to do with lack of self identity and wanting to fit in and less to do with recognition of good music. Same thing has happened to Nickelback, Winger and several others. It's no different than those who say terrible artists are great because again, it's cool to like them. I won't name any because that's my opinion but we all know those people
@@S.J.L stupid peral jam comment aside, people hate creed because stapp became an absolute lunatic. creed without him, aka alter bridge, is a far better band and miles is an insane vocalist
@@brianemerich2524 I stand by my statement, PJ is overrated except for Yellow Ledbetter. I'll check out the other band but in defense of Scott, insanity is a job hazard for a preformer.
This album got me through my first overseas deployment in January 2002, three months after 9/11. Nobody will ever know the impact these songs made on me or how they helped a young kid survive in a scary place.
Just seeing your name and the words you have written tells me that you speak from the heart. I appreciate your service as well as all whom has served. I am 73yrs old an I also love this music, an understand why it's a part of your life story. What one can relax and relat to is what helps us better ourselves for the rest of our lives. Thanks again for your service and everyone that served with you. Always be proud of yourself. You will go far in life. I salute you.
This song hit me..i never understood what it meant... As a teenager i was dark and dug my own hole.. , now I'm 21 and gave myself to Christ and understand this so much on a spiritual level.. Thanks Creed!
I think Mark Tremonti's voice singing in that background is even better. That's what grabbed me about this song! And the harmonies with both of their great voices!
I have battled my own demons for years and was at the point of where I thought I would never go until I found this song. Scott Stapp literally saved my life with this song, and I could never thank Creed enough for everything that they've done for me and my family.
I know Creed is originally from Tallahassee and used to live just down the road from where I grew up. I stop by that very house every day on my way back from work. I've formed a very good relationship with the new owners. They never knew the history behind the home until I reminded them of the song "With Arms Wide Open". They were humble enough to let me into their home where we would occasionally drink a cold Budlight and listen to some of the songs that we imagined were written in that very same room.
I don't get why everyone hates on Creed. I've heard a lot of negative things about Scott and I think with his recent behavior and occurrences he might utilize the second chance he has been given, I've always loved the bands music! Since I was a kid I've had respect for the band and have jammed to them lol. Anyway I hope they get back together and I wish people would just Keep Calm and listen to Creed.
Exactly...but...people are stupid and will hate on anything...especially where there's a positive message involved. Whatever Scott went through or did is his personal business and unless he personally caused chaos in the smack talker's lives...there's no reason for the hate. Don't like the band...don't friggin listen to them...that simple. Creed still lifts me up...

I’m not even religious, but I’m empathic enough to love all types of music and media, and Creed has always had the ability to entrance and evoke a certain feeling, which is really what music in general should be about. Despite that, I find them as one of the most memorable and endearing bands to rise to popularity in the early 2000s, and I will always find them deeply poetic.
The lyrics in this song, from start to end, are some of the best (if not the best) I've ever heard in a "rock" song. The lyrics use the power of symbolism to reference stories/lessons from the Holy Bible over and over (too many for me to explain all of them). By far my favorite verse is " I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison". The reference to the archangel Gabriel delivering the message is outstanding and so deep it gives me chills every time I hear this song. (this is my interpretation so that's all it is. I could be wrong) Awesome song!!
Very very..very good song....since i heaf fir firts time....still today....I LOVE IT i am preparer tje cover with my band in CHILE.....and to play in the street....
"I cry out to God seeking only His Decision, Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison," the whole blessed song is awesome, ALL the lyrics, I can have it on Lazy 8 Infinite repeat and I won't get tired of it, a CLASSIC.
I'm 25.. was a kid getting into music right as everyone was switching from "FU Creed!" to "FU Nickelback!" ... blindly hated this band for a long time as a result. now I'm coming to realize these guys were pretty awesome. just hella overexposed at the time
As a suicide survivor, this song cuts me deep. I've always loved this song. Always will love Creed! My struggles with my mental health illnesses are a beast but the lyrics...damn! Soothes my soul for real
People need to listen to the lyrics of this song. I have created My own prison/depression. I forgot to look up. This song reminds me who is there to rescue and save me. When my son became a father of a son I messaged/shared the song ARMS WIDE OPEN. It's a beautiful song. Creed is awesome. They sing about life... just listen
I know it's easier said than done friend but what I do is definitely no secret & doesn't seem to be anything special but I will literally stop & put myself in as much of the present moment as I can & tell myself this is what I've got rn, this is what is, & I'm ok right now. I find myself saying that ALL of the time. Get what I'm saying buddy? Take care of yourself friend
Currently battling with my thoughts. I’ve ruined everything once again and can’t let go of the past. Thank you for this! Haven’t heard this song in years but it officially showed me that I AM the reason for this. Please GOD you know my thoughts and prayers… don’t let the demons in my head take me.
Rambo I feel ya brother i truly do. Seems we're the same. I fcked up again too and now there is no one ,nothin left. Although I am not inside , been there plenty times,I always will be in my own mind. The past is all I think of ,where I live , well not live but exist and it is a prison you can't escape, caint do your time and be done. I pray the same prayer as you every night, hoping and hoping God hears me and will release me from this prison of my own makin. God grant us peace and allow us to live a life free of our sins and mistakes. Take care
Regardless of their beliefs, Creed hit hard with this song. Monster riffs, self-help lyrics with a spiritual tinge. All the anger pointed in the right direction: yourself and your own choices. All while keeping things open for external help. Love it.
It's interesting how I've always appreciated this song, but the older I get these words cut deeper and deeper. I feel like I'm in a prison of my mind where the battle of good and evil goes on. Depression, anxiety, doubt, feeling I can't do anything right is sadly my norm and I can't break these shackles and escape the prison.
47 years old and I'm right with ya my friend. Your own mind is a terrible place to be in at times and can be your own worst enemy. Deal with it a lot... More and more daily....lots of hopelessness there...
This song really knows how to pull you back down to earth and realize your own mistakes. Would like to walk around like everything that happens to us is everyone else’s fault when in reality we do it ourselves. I love creed it’s raw and it’s real and it’s heartfelt.
Never left! Been a diehard creed fan since 97. Saw them this year on my birthday in august in hershey PA. They killed it! I never paid attention to the hate. Their music is as strong today as it was back then. Got me and my best buddy through some deep dark hard times. God is good!
This song helped me through some of my darkest days after losing my husband and mom 17 days apart in 2019. I can say that now I can hold my head up high! ❤❤❤❤
“A lion roars in the darkness only he holds the key, a light to free me from my burden grant me life eternally.” I know that Lion, you want him on your side, you need him on your side.
One of the titles attributed to Jesus in the Holy Bible is the Lion of the tribe of Judah. A few others are the Rose of Sharon, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace, Emmanuel, Light of the world, Lamb of God, Messiah, Chief Cornerstone, Alpha and Omega, Lord of All, King of Kings , Faithful and True, Good Shepard, Great High Priest, Almighty One, I Am.... and many more!
You have read me wrong. See, I loath pop music, and grew up a metalhead. 1D, which I assume is One Direction, is not good music. Pantera, Metallica, Judas Priest, and FFDP is more my jam (pun not intended).
I can't say enough good things about this song.Scott's voice is powerful , Tremonti's guitar is haunting and the lyrics are just poetry.Oh yeah , and they're not afraid to include our maker , God in the lyrics.I'll forever love Creed. Haters are just jealous !
I love this album. it's about his difficulty with faith and christ. I feel like this is something that many can relate to. for me it's not about my relationship with christ but with God. I feel like he and I have alot in common.
I fortunately have never suffered of depression, and I'm currently not sad. But every time I listen to this song, it transmits me a weird, sad, melancholic feeling, which is exactly the purpose of this masterpiece. What I mean to say, this song is so well-made that you don't need to suffer of depression to feel it. I love this song. And I swear that if I ever fall into any kind of sadness, I'll listen to this song and I'm sure it'll make me overcome that moment, just as it did with other people.
creed is the type of band that digs beneath the surface of the humanity emotions to find the true meaning of what you're feeling. they've done a lot for me. I come to this song a lot when I'm depressed & creed never seems to let me down.. their music is beautiful.
you're this band is amazing.. they dig deep with their lyrics, they definitely know how to sooth your soul. Stapps voice is amazing, great singer. I too suffer from depression and creed has always helped me.
Loved Scott as a crush and fan. Then I think we all connected and prayed for him. Took awhile for his search...but he is a believer and survivor...the rest of the band were pure talent and the time was priceless. May we never stop searching seeking loving God and people like these guys. Been to many concerts but these guys were a true musical spiritual experience. Hope they are happy and blessed. CREED fan for life!
First album at around 7 years old was human clay. My uncle gave it to me and still listen today at nearly 30 years old. Ironic as when I hit adulthood I then discovered my own prison which I listened to endlessly due to its class and relevance to my mental health for a long period of time. Also ironic that I was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer at 27 just a year after welcoming my daughter in to the world. Used to listen to arms wide open a lot before she was born and cry, such a powerful song. 'i hope he/she is not like me' and most of lyrics were exact feelings I had towards becoming a father, and now my sacrifice is a potential song for my funeral as it is so suitable for me and I've loved it since a kid. Big up creed and fuck depression and cancer!!! 👍💪
What a heartfelt statement and I really appreciate it. My dad died of lung cancer and my cousin is riddled with it. Prayers 🙏 sent for you and your family.
I love creed. Their lyrics all have significant meaning. Only people I know that don't like creed are shallow and can't relate to the lyrics. I feel this song in my bones.
I really feel bad for Scott. His demons have a stranglehold on him. It's easy to kick someone when they are down but that is something I will never do. God bless Scott and help pull him out of the darkness he is in.
yurtpoh Yurt, with age comes wisdom. I was not always like this, life's lessons moulded me to who I am today. One of the great things i learned was to not judge and not to kick people when they are down instead give them a hand up.

one of my favorite bands back in the day now that im a born again christian i understand why i felt the way i did when i would listen to there music it thank u Jesus for grace and mercy
This album came out in 1997, the same year I graduated with my first degree. It helped me transition from the academic world into the professional world. It has a great message and is a warning not to limit your life by choosing the wrong actions. I got that message before it was too late at the age of 26.
My dad used to love you guys he would sing this song when he would take me to school and what not it’s been 11 years since he passed and I still listen to this from time to time to bring back the good memories thank you
"We the meek are all in one" means that we (the band & the listeners) are meek (we sacrifice in our lives to make them better but end up creating our own prisons), seeking a higher meaning in this song itself but refusing our selfish pride, admitting 'we shoulda been dead on a sunday morning banging our heads, but don't even have time' to use the song "My Own Prison" to climb emotionally to a higher meaning that liberates us quickly from suffering in a bittersweet but uplifting way. It's symbolic of Creed's music. The obstacles/prisons only appear when you orient yourself to a high aim and start sacrificing (become 'the meek'), but being articulate enough (in music, in conversation) can make a whole world of difference. Literally, in Creed's case!! Can you take me higher? The alternate option in this song is to stay in your prisons or stuck-in-place worldview where you and the meek are NOT all in one, isolating yourself into making fantasies with your demons' selfish pride- which is a one-way ticket to hell & suffering like Christ and others who took up there cross alone without seeking help in others. Grace is important to exercise in life while being meek, keeping the prison doors cracked open just enough, or in a musical way that'll find you a family/community dealing with similar issues to follow you (like Jesus, which the singer of Creed has been compared too quite a bit- the singer even sang a solo song called 'Jesus is Rockstar' in 2013). With this song being a story, it's a convienent means through its art form to integrate people into it, to the symbols, to the subtle mundane but uplifting bass-sliding melody of My Own Prison. You can put on facing and moods to match situations like this song does or different to achieve different results- don't forget that! I reiterate, the obstacles and difficulties in all this only appear, fellow meek people, when we orient ourselves towards a high level of sacrifice like that- changing ourselves, writing great music/art/books for a grace/truly good purpose or higher meaning that fosters peace and more courteous goodwill to the peoples of the earth.
I’ve always loved Creed’s music even when others didn’t. My best memory is when my late husband took me to a concert to see them on one of our dates when he found I loved them.
Been awhile since I've listened to CREED. Amazing how this band with their lyrics are able to snatch my soul with their hooks and thrash it around to make me feel what they are trying to convey. No doubt,God givin talent. Why isn't music like this being made anymore? It's a wonder

@@JaysonT1 It's clear that this song is about religious redemption. It's pathetic how little atheists with a bad life come to here with a bizarre interpretation just to feel good with their insignificant lives.

I agree
My own prison was a lot darker than their later works, that’s why it was always my favorite project of theirs
I spent the entire high school listening to Creed, I'm 40 and I still listen to it, eternal teenager 🤣
Sick im a teenager now and love creed
Was in the military when this came out. It blew up around the country and on base i was stationed at. Took me months to realize how profound the lyrics were to Christianity.
They are Christian's. I worked near a Christian school lead singer attended.
That’s the beauty of the media… they can easily hide this fact from all of us! There are a bunch more bands that y’all would be surprised are also singing to God!
Thank you so very much for your service!!! Much Love Please take care!

I thought you were gonna say it took you months to realize it wasn't a new Pearl Jam song. 😂
As a troubled teenager I used to listen to this song and loved the 'darkness' of it. Today, I really understand the message of this song and I feel so blessed that He has pulled me out of the darkness and helped me accept Christ. In faith I look forward to meet Him! You can be saved and still sin, nobody is perfect. Only Jesus was and is.

Tristan Vollmering most underrated group of the 90s .

Please give Thanks to GOD too. 😊💗

Another idiot comparing these dudes to Pearl Jam... Mark Tremonti alone makes them not comparable,he makes Pearl Jams guitarists look like a joke
I love Creed this song has meaning
+John Hamels alter bridge proves it.

So I held my head up high
Hiding hate that burns inside
Which only fuels their selfish pride
(And I said oh)

Out from the sun
A sun that shines on only some
We the meek are all in one
I hear a thunder in the distance
see a vision of a cross
I feel the pain that was given
On that sad day of loss
A lion roars in the darkness
Only he holds the key
A light to free me from my burden
And grant me life eternally

On a Sunday morning
Banging my head
No time for mourning

This video is missing lots of lyrics for some reason

Regardless of their beliefs, Creed hit hard with this song. Monster riffs, self-help lyrics with a spiritual tinge. All the anger pointed in the right direction: yourself and your own choices. All while keeping things open for external help. Love it.
God bless Scott Stapp for these lyrics even when he wasn't living them he put them out there. He kept his promise to God. What a good soul.
It's interesting how I've always appreciated this song, but the older I get these words cut deeper and deeper. I feel like I'm in a prison of my mind where the battle of good and evil goes on. 👍💪

I am a pretty seasoned blues and rock guitar player. Played in clubs for many years and look forward to doing some more with a new band in works. I happen to like Creed, won't apologize for it. Creed and Pearl Jam are on my play lists with some of the best players And musicians dead and alive. I like who I like. They both are unique bands. I don't and haven't covered any of the bands songs but still enjoy the hell out of them. To those who made positive comments on Creed , Two thumbs up and you all have great taste!

Me to
So creed in the 90s became the appitomy of styx back from the 70s
I created my own prison! Esoteric AF
Human Clay is my favorite too
I remember making fun of creed for years and here I am 15 years later realizing they were actually great
Same here😂😂
Dude , same.

Amen!! Same here
I was searching for my Lord as well. I didn't want my own prison. God loosed the chains!
Say what you want about Creed. Scott is an amazing songwriter. There's a message to learn in every song from Creed.
This album came out in 1997, the same year I graduated with my first degree. It helped me transition from the academic world into the professional world. It has a great message and is a warning not to limit your life by choosing the wrong actions. I got that message before it was too late at the age of 26.
Amén brother. As long as you breathe it's never too late to do what you really like.
God bless.
Creed. Never stop loving them with the love of Christ
Yes brother. This is the end days
Why have to go there. Life is so much easier when it's not so political
@@chicoharper6711 so you want easy?
They're not a religious band.
@@JaysonT1 I thought they were a christian band too... Then the great awakening happened.
Man his voice is beautiful!! Holly cow. I get tears listening to his song one last breath.
I’ve always loved Creed’s music even when others didn’t. My best memory is when my late husband took me to a concert to see them on one of our dates when he found I loved them.
Wow that's awesome.
A great memory.
Hello, how are you doing? It’s nice meeting you here. Thanks for your love and support🤟🏻🤟🏻❤️you have a wonderful day ahead ❤️🌺🎸🎸
Been awhile since I've listened to CREED. Amazing how this band with their lyrics are able to snatch my soul with their hooks and thrash it around to make me feel what they are trying to convey. No doubt,God givin talent. Why isn't music like this being made anymore? It's a wonder
This song hits me deep. Jesus is the only way. And its all on him to save us not ourselves
Amen bro! john 14;6
Will never forget songs like this from the 90's... the nostalgia is a melancholic sadness.
It came out in 2002?
It says copyright 2002.
Jacob Schmidt yea it came out in 1997
@@DANKYdans
Nope 98 I believe
@@jacobschmidt2745 no. Like 98 max
This song makes a believer out of someone who stopped believing. Thanks Creed.
1. Not a religious band
2. You believe because your grasping for anything.
3. The devil quoted scripture? Well, Christ also spoke out against religion. Every religious person thinks they're not religious. You can't see religion until your out of it.
@@JaysonT1 lol
@@JaysonT1 You seem awfully invested in this persons experience.
@@JaysonT1 It's clear that this song is about religious redemption. It's pathetic how little atheists with a bad life come to here with a bizarre interpretation just to feel good with their insignificant lives.
@@manoelmartinsjr4119 "insignifcant lives"? There's the christian self-righteousness we've all come to enjoy.
The overall production is timeless.
People shit on this band alot, but this song is a total jam that still sounds good today.
+PaulTurbo a lot. Cheek your privilege.
no band today can touch them.
ok that great
my issue with this band is the way Scott sounds too much like Eddie Vedder.
PaulTurbo Shit on it? How come
