Wow, just found this. I grew up in Lake Lure in the 70's/80's ! My Grandparents ran the Bottomless Pools, which is sadly closed now ! we used to have the Beach all to our selves as kids . Good Stuff man !
We stopped at the bottomless pools several times at kids, around 1978 - 1985, and always camped at the Hickory Nut Falls Family Campground........ Great times!
Wow, this is such an amazing video!! Back in the summer of 2001, i live in lake lure so this video was literally I'm nostalgic walk down memory lane. You can actually see my house in this video. At time mark 3:50, if you pause and take a screen shot and the zoom in on the houses that are in the left side, when you see the shed like barn sticking out in between a house and the pond in the back, that is my house. I miss it soooo much!
Was in Chimney Rock today with my Grandaughter...Hope they finish the construction soon. Not kid friendly at all. I was raised there in the 60s and was so much better then...
@@t.r.m1138 The trail you are referring to is to the left of Hickory Falls, between the falls and the rock formation with the huge American flag. It was closed to visitors in the early 2000s after two separate incidents where parents had the stupidity of taking young children on the trail resulting in both instances of children falling to their deaths. You can still see trails from Chimney Rock but the trail entrance is closed.
@@olentangy74 thanks my friend. I was looking at the diagrams and was stuck figuring where exactly. Interesting to see the advancement of safety measures from the earliest pics of this feat. Noticed the old timers had climbed it with no fencing at all. Stuff of tall tales.
@@t.r.m1138 Your welcome! The new trail to Hickory Falls cuts through the woods well behind the falls and ends near the top of the falls. The area where Magua and Chingochcook had thier battle is fenced off, but is still visible. It is a truly spectacular place to see.
@@olentangy74 very interesting! I was wondering about if Daniel day lewis and his group went up that old trail..saw the pic of that walkway..pretty brave to go up considering it looks slippery as heck. Too bad I'm in Texas cause I would love to see if I can make it even on the tame path
Marcel Cavour thanks! I used a Phantom 3 drone with an ND4 filter. I also used a LUT in DaVinci Resolve in post-processing but can't remember which one.
I shot it in D-log and a ND4 filter screwed on. I used a LUT for post-grading but can't remember which one. Might have been the DJI LUT along with custom adjustments with contrast.
Randy Herrmann Thanks! I film around Rutherford county NC with my P3S. I recently picked up some ND4/8 filter's wanting to shoot footage like this. Your video is amazing by the way!
Thanks for watching! The polarizer works well too if you want the colors to pop a little more. Gives deeper blues to the sky, too but I thought it was going to be too cloudy that day.
The guideline is 400' above or from nearby structure. The drone took off from a valley. I never went anywhere near 400' above the nearby mountains that are on either side of the valley or behind the drone.
It's sad to see the direction the lake it going.. It's turning into Myrtle Beach during the summer and it's a real shame. So sick and tired of tourists, of course the town loves all the money but if it meant less slow driving FL license plates and annoying people on the lake itself I'd gladly take losing a few of the tourist trap restaurants(and other than the Mexican joint they are ALL tourist traps with expensive sub par food). Just too many tourists ruining the place. - A local.
I've been through NC a few times, but never realized just how beautiful NC really is....Thank you so much for sharing...
I thought it's more beautiful than Colorado
How do you not realize it after seeing it the first time?
@@illhaveanother4365 I guess because it was night time when I was driving through lol
I'm from Belfast Ireland and i was there 20 years ago. Amazing place.
Some of my maternal ancestors came to America from Dublin. My grandmother's maiden name was O'Shields.

Btw what happened to bottomless pools??
My aunt said when they passed they left it to her church in Rutherfordton

Is the pond the one that is in the middle section of the houses on left a little above that bar looking thing that is in or on the river?
Are you a fish?

Awesome video!
Great video, beautiful place..!!
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Just beautiful! Great camera work.
Pine Mountain Estates thanks for watching!
Great video ! I love the area. I live in Hickory NC. I visit there every year. I also have a Autel Robotics EVO Drone.

I love chimney rock I live right near it
Thanks awesome video
Nice video I’m planning to go there this weekend with my Dji spark
Thats awesome footage.
How did you get permission to fly over it?
You did a pro job A++!
Awesome footage where did you fly from ???
Beautiful photography, but you missed the old trail further up the cliffs, as well as Hickory Falls, which is the crown jewel of the whole experience.
Thats what I was wondering..what does this old trail look like that people fell off of

No Hickory Nut Falls?
Beautiful north Carolina
Why the big hype on this rock? The one beside it is ten times bigger
That's what she said
What kind of drone did you use, amazing quality and image stability!
Marcel Cavour thanks! I used a Phantom 3 drone with an ND4 filter. I also used a LUT in DaVinci Resolve in post-processing but can't remember which one.
No problem, thank you for replying!
Nice video!
Of course dogs are allowed on the top of Chimney Rock.
great vid
Unfortunately, it’s not allowed to fly drones in this park and probably most state or national parks. Good shots
Did you use any filters or after effects on this?
I shot it in D-log and a ND4 filter screwed on. I used a LUT for post-grading but can't remember which one. Might have been the DJI LUT along with custom adjustments with contrast.

Great video! Did you have to get any kind of permit to film in the park?
Thanks for watching. No permit required!
Lovely place but no more😢
That's a great video. Was that taken by P3A or P3P? Did you use any range extender?
thanks! it was a P3A drone and I used a pair of SKYREAT parabolic reflector attachments on the antennas, though I probably didn't need them.
hey, mind if I borrow like 10 seconds of this footage please?
Nice!
looks better in the older pictures before it was covered in staircases
Or you allowed to fish in the lake???
If you speak English.
Do you know if dogs are allowed on top?
I just looked at some UA-cam footage from 2 yrs B4 and what was on it? A little dog on a leash at the top......Hope this helps.
yes they are allowed just not on elevators
IAM from ruthfordton nc pretty place in lake lure have not been home here in 15 years texas held better thangs
And he believed 11 people didn't like it LOL LOL
Please don't ruin this for the rest of us.
1:20 - Not suppose to be flying over people
3:40 - Not suppose to be over 400ft AGL
anticapitalize the rule is 400 ft over the structure, not from where you take off
Yes, please refer to the time marks I included in my comment. The 3:26 through 3:48 segments of the video are well above 400' from ground level.
The guideline is 400' above or from nearby structure. The drone took off from a valley. I never went anywhere near 400' above the nearby mountains that are on either side of the valley or behind the drone.
Randy Herrmann according to the Chimney Rock website you can’t land or takeoff in the park
Great video, horrible music!
