This is a wonderful demo of the whole process from fabric selection through cutting, sewing, pressing, staggered folding, sub cutting, ripping, pinning, budging, etc. I’m going to make a Trip Around the World!!!
This was an awesome tutorial! The way you explained the Trip quilt took out the intimidation factor that always held me back from attempting it. Thank you, and thank you for treating quilting as something should be a fun and creative process, and not like it's a mathematically scientific one! :)
I've not seen one put together in this manner, after watching it makes more sense to do it this way. Awesome, thanks for explaining the the plus sign in the middle 😊
I haven't either. I just stack squares in order. No ripping at all. I used Eleanor Burns book Trip Around the World. But, ended up with the same quilt design.
@@ellenhofer3343 Eleanor didn’t rip the seams. She cut on the seam lines, but made and laid out the same way. Just watched her again. Made one that way, when I first started quilting. Turned out beautiful. I don’t know, I think I like this better. Eleanor did sew the tube together, before sub cutting. That’s the only thing I would do differently. Just personal preference. Less sewing. Love this quilt.
I’m new at sewing and I’m starting with making quilt tops. You’re video is fantastic! You made this look so easy I thought I’d give it a try for my 5th quilt top and first full size quilt! The ladies I quilt with were shocked I was already going to try this. It was only because of your awesome video! You explain things so well and gave me confidence to try it! I was pleased at how well it turned out! Please post more!!!!
Thank you, especially for the fabric “holding hands” analogy. I shied from Trip quilts because I never liked the plus sign middle and the stark rows. Your method of fabric pairing makes a lovely quilt.
You are so honest and I'm all about speedy piecing and getting it done. I like your strip set joining methods and quick chain-piecing. So much fun when you know how. Thanks for sharing your tips & tricks Please add more videos soon. They're very good to watch and learn...from someone like you who has lots of experience. :)
Thank you, I’m a newbie quilter and the way you not only show HOW but also explain WHY is so helpful to me. I’ve subscribed and I’m excited to see more from you. Chris in the UK 🤗
Just finished watching and I read quite a few comments. I definitely agree. I have made one before and this is the Best instructional I have ever come across. Thanks sooo much. Really great how you not only mentioned at the end how you determine the center fabrics. Great visual. I also enjoyed seeing your method for choosing your fabrics. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Heartfelt ❤ thanks from Maine.
Wow. This is the first time I've come across your tutorials. I love the quilt, your tutoring style and I even feel hopeful I can have a go myself in the future. I have only made one quilt and have another lined up but this would be great for #3 which is for a friend who would like a lap quilt. Thank you very much 🥰 🇬🇧
Just watched your large pink, gray and black quilt and now this one. The plus sign …important for new subscribers to know. That would bother me too. You make this so easy, even a beginner could do this. Just need to be organized. Getting my colors together tomorrow! Love the peach, gray and black look!! Thank you so much for sharing this!😘
And so organized. Mine is a mess. I straighten it up and then try to find something and make another mess. I’m going in there and try to get it in order.
That is so beautiful!! Love how you filmed this, fast enough to see the flow, slow enough to know what you are doing. I love your colours too. I like your explanation for avoiding the plus sign. Thank you.
Oh WOW!!!! I love all the fabric colors an patterns you chose. Oh and the black an white really makes it. It's just stunning. I'm so happy you popped up on my UA-cam..... I'm a fan already.
The June Tailor strip ruler is fantastic. Just used it to cut strips for a gingham quilt. Thanks for making the bargello process relatively quick and easy!
I really like the idea of keeping colour teams together because they are friends lol. And yes, i especially agree about the middle not jumping out as a plus sign!!! This tutorial did make me understand better the process and it helped me understand your newest trip around the world video you posted. Thank you!
Dear Jean, thank you so much for the way you explain the way of making quilts. I have seen the Dresden block often and my brain would instantly say, NO WAY I could do this. Contrary to what others may think, I appreciate your encouraging voice and the step by step of putting the pieces together. Many blessings to you and your amazing family.
Gorgeous quilt. Thank you for explaining that design issue with the plus sign. I probably would not have noticed that, and I do like your quilt with the three colors better, so glad I watched this video andlearned that!
I've been look for just this quilt and here your are!! Thanks for the great tutorial and I love your format, showing us the work with a great voiceover, you nailed it lady!!
The thumbnail of this video caught my eye. I’m planning on a baby quilt. After I watched this, I searched others for the “Trip” design. This is the absolute best instruction of them all. Don’t think I could ever do the plus sign in the middle ever due to your design. Love this!

I really enjoy the way you explain what you are doing, and I also enjoy the pace at which things progress - Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! 😊
Whew, such a relief. My machine doesn't like 1/4" seams either. I'm in the middle of making my first quilt and was stressing all the little things. Now I'm just going to relax and finish the top. Thank you so much. I always saw a cross not a plus sign. 9 is my favorite # too.
Thank you for making this video! I'm new to sewing in general and therefore not bound by conventional wisdom. Glad to find someone who does things the way I would do them if I had the skills. My project almost done and still no quilt police,😅.

Thank so much for the great tutorial. Made the quilt in less than a week and I did do a border. I love the trip around the world. Will be making more, love to have baby quilts ready to be given as gifts. I love picking out all the colors so much fun. Thanks again.
Yes, using a focus fabric is a great way to select other fabrics. But you’re missing a free tool for selecting coordinating fabrics right on the selvage of the focus fabric: the color dots or “registration marks” are the actual colors of ink used to print the focus fabric. So use the focus fabric’s registration marks rather than looking at the whole fabric to pick your coordinating fabrics!
I find that when I'm doing a "trip quilt" the color dots aren't what I'm going for. Sometimes a little "clash" makes the trip happier. So, I use the whole fabric on purpose so that I can feel the colors bigger and see how they will play together.
@@merrymabelmarket I agree. There's more to fabric choices than just color. There's pattern, style, hue, and a sort of attitude of the fabric. You chose fabrics that all had a light-hearted feel to them. You could have found a paisley, or gingham that matched the colors, but it wouldn't have fit the feel of the quilt.
When I came across your tutorial, it called my name! This is the pattern for my granddaughter’s baby. Thank you for your clarity in explaining the process.

Thanks and welcome!
So glad I found your video. I probably would have made a ton of 4 patches instead of strip sets and I wouldn't have had fun. This looks fun. Beautiful quilt!
Nice tutorial! I made one of these back in the '70s and I'd like to make another one. Just need to figure out how to make a king size. 🤩
Go for it! You can use my technique with measurements from someone else's pattern.
Oh that is beautiful and I love your calming voice. Such beautiful work. Thank you for sharing your creative colorful artwork of beautiful fabric. 👍❤️
You are truly kind!
Wow! Great tutorial. I really like trip quilts but I thought keeping the fabric in order would be a problem for me. I love your process and all the great tips. I need to go pull some fabrics to try a baby trip. Thank you
