the cap on mine wont come off. i wanted to do this. idk whaats wrong but it absolutely wont simply come off. i pressed down and turned it counter clockwise i pulled twisted ect. the little stubborn piece of crap wont come off. if i turned harder it was gonna break the fill valve apart.? this apt is old so i guess toilet and parts are also. this pisxes me off. nothing ive tried on you tube works. it would have messed mine up worse and id be responsible. the bitxx msg here wont fix anything and youtube just dont seem to work!!
When I say I watched several videos and nothing worked until I found your video. Now I substituted the beer with a cup of coffee. And your instructions were very easy and fast. I want to thank you so much now I don't have to pay someone to come out and look at my toilet. You are amazing man😀
You missed a step. When you have it all apart put the cup over the top and then turn the water back on flushing the pipe out sometimes debris gets caught in the pipe or in the valve to open the valve up and blast it and then turn it off and put it back together. This is information coming from a guy who's been a handyman for 30 years
Thank you! I'm gonna try this. Already paid a plumber to come out & fix it. They installed a new kit but it was doing this an hour after he left & even over flowed the next day. I was so annoyed that I decided to learn to fix it myself. I have no patience.
@@SkrillaB999 actually, I found that just replacing the entire mechanism that does the flushing is the easiest thing to do... You just put in a whole new assembly and everything is fine and it's relatively simple to do
Turn the water oaf take this cap off just like thant twist this thang oaf now take this rubber gasket oaf give her a good wersh put it back own reset your datem whatever its Cald now put the cap back own and flush her oh wait we gotta turn the water back own now you got water
Check your flapper after flushing to see if it relaxes back down evenly. If it doesnt you may have to make adjustments. Also, if you washed that gasket and it's still leaking, you may need a new one. Go to a home center in the toilet plumbing section and buy a new one, its called a "toilet fill valve seal." They're like $2.50 :)
Wow! was just about to buy a new valve seal. Water would not stop running after a flush untill I shutoff the cutoff valve and turned back on. Tried this minus the beer lol and now it works great. Edit: Sorry, it didn’t last. I ended up having to replace the whole fill valve unit. It was a pain the a** too because installer tightened it way too tight. Instruction say to hand tighten 😖.

No your water isn't timed. The bill goes up when the tank is leaking and refilling over and over
Or you can also just buy a new gasket from a hardware or home center theyre like $2.50.
