- Okay okay it’s really not for everyone. I get it. But, if this is something you’d try, keep reading!
✔️ Save this to come back to when you start look for a HMUA
In my last reel, I shared the steps you need to take if you plan to do your own HMU for your wedding 👇🏼
Here’s the catch for the day of so you can plan appropriately:
⏱️ you need to do your own trial run to see how long it takes
Find a fun date night or event to get dressed up for. Then, start a timer, lay out all of the products you will be using, and have a full practice run doing the ENTIRE wedding look. Don’t forget to stop the timer when you’re done
Write down how long it took you so you can add this into your day of timeline!
🎥 Take a few pictures, film yourself in different lighting, and wear it for at least 5-6 hours
This will give you a true look at how your hair and makeup will look, feel, and hold up
👯♀️ Ask a friend for their help
If you’re nervous to try this by yourself, ask a girlfriend to be brutally honest with you! It’s better to hear any critiques from a close friend beforehand
👩🏫 Rely on an expert! If you have questions, utilize UA-cam, socials, other brides, and experts at Sephora/Ulta
There’s so much info! Just search “bridal make up” and the style you’d like to achieve. For example:
bridal makeup natural look
bridal makeup full glam
bridal makeup glowy and bright
Tag a bride below whos doing her own HMU and needs some tips!

Kat sounds like an awesome person. I did my own hair and makeup for my wedding in 2010 and I've never regretted it. That's not the part people are going to remember, it's not the part _I'm_ going to remember! Better to save that money for something that matters more, or just reduce total costs in general. You know what's important to you!
My wedding was 3 weeks ago & I did my own hair & make up too! Why spend all that money especially if you’re not someone who’s familiar with wearing heavy make up with the contouring stuff etc. Do what makes you happy. Whether you’re more into a natural look or full face beat, there are tons of tutorials on UA-cam & you’ll always have that make up to keep. Whatever you’d be spending on paying someone to do your hair & makeup, rather spend on buying whatever you’ll need.
These days when people hear “wedding” their prices suddenly sky rocket, it’s crazy.
You ain’t kidding. Just slap the label “bridal” in front of it and people pay up for it.
I didn’t do my own hair, but I chose to do my own makeup. Turned out just fine. Though, I’ll admit I had to take a Xanax so I wouldn’t go crazy OCD 🤣 and no, I don’t condone or promote benzo use, but if it’s needed…it’s needed. Lol
Got married 10 years ago and I had a woman at Sephora do it. She did an amazing job and I was super happy
I did my own.
It’s honestly weird, when you think of it that “normal” people are expected to spend the money on having that done nowadays. What happened to putting on your Sunday best and walking to the chapel with your beloved and having a potluck with your closest friends after?
My wedding was very inexpensive, but if I could go back I would have been even more simple in my choices.
Why buy the cow when the milk is free?😂
