- 100+ of Australia's toughest Rotaries headed west for the annual Rotary RX Nation held at Prospect.
The highlight of the day would have to be the 20B RX5 built by HPRE at Chipping Norton.

I never liked them but now they are so rare and that is so well packaged it's hard to pass it.
It's so hard these days - do you modify or leave stock(ish) as prices are going up and original cars are near impossible to find.
I choose two favourite Mazda's. Mazda rx7 Savannah and rx3.. capella is bonus one to me!

I use to get lift to work when I was a kid in an rx5 that was the only one I've ever seen
30 years ago my father used to own a modified Rx5 when I was a kid. He used to let me change the gears when we we driving and steer it home from the passenger seat.
Some knob stole it from outside his house while we were home and stripped it.
I miss those times and that car everyday.

As a mazda i prefer stock with a good rotary engine set up to double his life with a either stock exhaust or borla with maybe extended port, for me it's better to keep the value of the car
Awesome footage. Mine was the left hooker green RX-3 Coupe, absolutely mint & in original condition. The green RX-4/929 Coupe was a very close 2nd though & I would be very happy to own either.

Thanks for the kind words mate. Years ago the Cosmos were harvested for their 20B engines as they were the only car to come standard with one. Now days having a factory 20B without engineering and standing out from the crowd makes them highly desirable. Visually they’ve aged well to.

@@craignielson6605 - I've owned a few of them. They come together nicely when given the usual mods, but under the skin they are basically an upmarket 2-door RX4. They have the advantages of lightly longer wheelbase, Power Steer, Air Cond, rear coil springs, etc - nicer and more refined than any other RX3 or RX4 of the time.
Unfortunately they tend to get unfairly compared to the RX3, which is a significantly smaller and lighter car than the RX4/RX5. The 1st Gen RX7 was the replacement for the RX3, not the RX5 so in a different class.
The downside of the RX5 is that much of the suspension, brakes and wheels are unique to that model. To get shocks, I used rear Konis for a Volvo and had them re-valved, and the front strut inserts were also custom valved. You have to get creative when restoring them, rather than custom-fabricating everything underneath!

I wish i can see a Mazda encounter like this in my country,here in Argentina having a Mazda is like having a UFO,not much people knows what a Mazda is,specially a RX7 , and find their parts for fixing or replacement it's impossible or very expensive ,sucks to be a JDM enthusiast over here,also that RX-5 and the red FC are a beauty

Uncle of mine recently sold his RX4 coup brought it new still had plastic on seats and door trims

Rx5? Yeah why not
The rx-5 has always been the heaviest and most ugly but I now have a new found love of the Mazda rx-5 the triple for the extra weight and most of all the lipstick and make-up are great it's a very well built car
That "over-weight" perception is not quite what it seems. The RX5 was only 50kg heavier than a 13B RX4, and it included a significantly higher equipment specification. The RX5 has A/C, Power steer, Rear Disc brakes, nicer trim, etc. Optioned equally, they'd probably weight about the same.

The RX5 generally handled better than an RX4, since it had trailing arms and coils, rather than leaf springs at the rear. The wheelbase was longer, plus it had larger front discs and it had rear disc brakes too! But fundamentally the RX4 and RX5 are the basically same car under the skin, and both were considerably larger and heavier than the smaller RX3.

Whilst the Gen 1 RX7 was lighter, it was the replacement for the RX3, not the RX5. The Gen 2 FC and Gen 3 FD manual RX7's were about 50kg heavier than a manual RX5, and the Gen 3 auto was 120kg heavier than an auto RX5. So, if the RX5 is considered "heavy" then what's a FC
Whilst having much more powerful engines, the JC Cosmo was between 300 and 400kg heavier than an RX5. So, a triple-rotor in an RX5 is basically the same power-to-weight as an RX4 with equal A/Con and P/Steer (or delete).
I love the FDs... But I thínk shows like this should also focus on other Mazdas without Rotarys. Thinking the MX-3,MX-6, 323F/Astina/Lantis, 323/Famila GTR & GTS, 3 & 6 MPS... These cars are always overlooked. The Rotary and MX-5 are always in the spotlight.
If they don’t turn up I can’t film them..I’m a huge fan of the MPS 6 though and hope to have one one day.

The green RX3 = Perfection. Why put Simmons on these and ruin everything? They're perfect from factory
Back in time the japanese sold a few of this here in western
europe. Mainly the rust killed them. Either the j'ese copied
u.s.-american styling, but just better and size fit to our size
