I remember the magazine articles at the time, how they showed all the innovations in the design, one of was all wheel drive, which I see from this, never made it into production. AI probably would have pronounced it XJ two, two, zero and I didn't hear any of the typical AI mispronunciations. I'm going to go check out the Leno assessment of the car.
Such a beautiful and iconic car! If only Jaguar would keep an V12 or at least V8 with AWD - that would be an epic car... It is amazing to see that sometimes car companys ignore the engine size, its sound and awd options.
The xj220 disappointment has stayed in the memory of jaguar so long it caused Jaguar to shelve the spectacular cx75 concept. A car that would have been a boon to jaguar and boosting the brands prestige. Jaguar is a shell of itself today. So sad
It would still sell in 2024 if it did 220mph and had the V12 with all wheel drive, lots of cars in production have AWD these days so there is no excuse not to manufacture it now in it's original form, don't let the so called famous developers try to put there development to it as it was perfect as it was.
A lot of work was put into this video. That said, the voice over mispronounces model designations for all models with a number in them. For example a Porsche 956 is not a Porsche “nine hundred fifty six”. It is a Porsche 9 5 6. The numbers are pronounced as single digits. Editing images and videos is just as important as editing your voice overs, even if generated by AI.
Got to see one of the original Xj220 prototype at an auction in Buxton around 10 years ago. The exterior was beautiful but being one of the first prototypes the interior wasn't actually finished. Still loved it though.
Jaguar's engineers chose the fastest option, which was the V6. Lighter, compact, just as powerful. They only forgot that the customers are more interested in bragging rights and acoustic sensations than actual speed. Your comment has it the wrong way around.
Interesting fact regarding "Alcans bonded aluminum". Alcan was a Canadian mining company and aluminum manufacturer founded in 1902. Alcan use to manufacture aluminum hulls for boats using their bonded aluminum process in the late 60's up to the early 70's.
..I only ever saw 2 of these on the road here in SoCal. Both silver, so it could have been the same car twice. But, Once I was behind one of them and looking up the rear of the car, what struck me was that the car was almost empty from the rear wheels back. I must say that it sounded wonderful and looked great too........
It would have been a hit had they stuck with the original concept of natural breathing 6 liter V12 and AWD! Instead they went with a non-jaguar turbo V6 from a Rally car!
I sat in one once on a tour of the Jaguar factory. I'm 6' 2" tall and the roof is so low I could not sit upright in the car and had to lean my head/neck at 45 degrees just to get into the drivers seat. It would be impossible for anyone of my height to drive this car. You would need to be approx 5' 6" or less to fit into the drivers seat on this car without your head touching the roof.
It didn't sell because in those days a V6 with turbo was not acceptable as an engine for flagship top of the line car. It felt as a let down, even if it had enough Power and top speed.

Promised an all wheel drive V12, deliverd a 2WD V6. Still very good but not exactly what it said on the tin and then there was the XJR15 a 2WD V12 which muddied the water for a slightly cheaper price.
JLR is switching to EV completely. I doubt, aside from specialist racing vehicles, that we will ever see their new internal combustion engines. Who is here after the Jaguar rebranding?
It was launched at an unfortunate time, and people failed to pay up on their pre-orders. But also, its too big for most roads in the UK lol. Most beautiful car ever made though
she's fat lol!
And BMW x5s and Ford f150s are so slimline.
wow

@@AutoSapienYT subscribed.
Another AI narrated video with those weird little AI mistakes.
Wth dude 😭 I am real
"Em em," is not how you pronounce "millimeter," in a presentation.
People need to ditch this new trend of robotic sounding AI narrators...
@@AutoSapienYT saying "GP" instead of "HP" (which was printed on screen actually) several times sounded very amateurish to be honest.
@@huzcer Saying "The Porsche Nine Hundred and Fifty Nine" suggests the narrator may have only recently become acquainted with the car. It's a shame, because the production value of the video, and the level of research that went into the scripting, is better than 90% of UA-cam car videos.
@@StuartGarlick Or the English language. Like an AI.
Promised an all wheel drive V12, deliverd a 2WD V6. Still very good but not exactly what it said on the tin and then there was the XJR15 a 2WD V12 which muddied the water for a slightly cheaper price.
hmm i agree,

I know a v12 was promised but what they were able to squeeze out of the tt v6 at that time was fuckin legendary. I still would have accepted.

From the love of making something special to the love of money, from glory to crap.
14:15: pic clearly shows a car factory in the NINETEEN FIFTIES. i hereby challenge anyone to provide the relevance of fifties footage.
Jaguar destroyed potentiallya great brand by deceiving the public and changing the original configurations of the car
TWR were also a poor business partner because Tom Walkinshaw was never fully behind the XJ220 and favoured the TWR designed XJR15.
Hmmm interesting, i missed this fact

So unfair this channel got no subscribers. Come on guys,
Bro you're gem
How can a V12 to a V6 be considered anything but a serious let down?
hmm i agree,

Thank you for using our country history as example 😂
you mean india?
So what stops them bringing it again in market if it was so good.
The car had many problems, watch the video till the end you'll find out,

Is this where the 1993 Camaro body style came from , they look very similar.
That is a most beautiful car, by the first supercar makers, and of series one xj six.
she's so fucking beautifull
The v12 engine often had soft camshafts as a common fault.
Really?

With the re-commitment to IC engines by European car companies, I hope that Jaguar makes a V12 supercar someday
Maybe
JLR is switching to EV completely. I doubt, aside from specialist racing vehicles, that we will ever see their new internal combustion engines. Depending on how the transition to EV goes, who knows what the Jaguar will become or will it survive this transition in decades to come. I choose to remain hopeful :)

@@lukabilic6081 you never know :) I think they'll come to the same conclusion as the other companies, that EVs just don't sell and have many issues, despite legislators thinking it's best. If anything, I could see hydogen and hydrogen/ICE hybrids happening.
And if you want one now it will cost you half a million...
Great content. AI voice messes up the F40 amd Porsche HP figures, calling them "GP"
Yeah my mistake

Porsche Is actually pronounced without the 'e' at the end. It should be read 'Porsch'.
porsche debate lol
...just give it to me - I like it.
14:09 This more than anything else killed it. People are upset when they have to pay more to get less than promised.
What's wrong with the narrator. He speaks English, with an English accent. However, he speaks with an American dialect. How strange and confusing.
its an ai narrator , ai has issues with numbers
Nobody ever calls it the "two hundred twenty" and repeating it wrongly through the video detracts from the story
sorry for that,
