Yeah I have this catch-22 situation where I keep feeling like I'm falling for her but realizing that she is literally teaching seduction. So it's like verification that she's definitely a professional and knows what she's doing. It's like I have no idea who she really is but I keep feeling like I want to place more trust in her than I would for a normal stranger. Basically demonstrating how effective it could be used against me if someone did. The fact that she's able to verify everything she's saying while she's explaining it it's really effective. I really appreciated this topic being covered; it was a great Podcast.
Yet, if she's teaching "competence+warmth" it means she tought herself for years to present that in herself, of course she's the best at that! Makes you question if she even remembers where are her real emotions where her learned emotions are.
She comes off as more competent than warm, whereas he comes off as more warm than competent. I think it comes down to something in their eyes, the rapidity of their respective speech, and their body language. He's sitting back and his body is open, for example.
When someone isn't to sure and question themselves I find that being encourageing to empower them to find their confidence in themselves is such a great thing

It helps to be feeling good about yourself - and life. I never feel vulnerable socially because I love life and people from all walks of life. I don’t “separate” myself from others. I enjoy meeting strangers because I don’t see anyone as a stranger. I believe that we are all One, from every place, culture, race, religion and every walk of life. Everyone is my friend until they prove otherwise and if they aren’t I might feel sad or down for a few moments but then quickly accept it and walk away. Also: humor is your best friend in making friends and connecting with others. Yes, warmth and confidence - and giving.

Once I became more comfortable in my own skin and started living for me the easier it is is to engage others. I was watching this and thinking, I haven't experienced social rejection in the longest. Probably because I surround myself with others that care about self-love, self-development and are focused on being their best version. When I was blaming the world for my problems and being self-absorbed, i did experience many of the social rejection cues she mentioned.

Great reference to Dr. Ramani. She says often that she just doesn’t trust charismatic people because in her experience, they are almost always insincere and narcissistic. I’ve been told that I have good presence…and I strive for that balance of warmth and competence…but I am trying to make others comfortable and not necessarily to advance my own agenda. So respecting Dr. Ramani as I do, I’ve really been questioning this approach. Should I not be striving for charisma, but just for an appropriate level of warmth? But being a (small) woman in a logical male field, I worry about being “too warm.” I have been told, too, by other women and even warmer men, that I am too expressive and personal and “hand-gesturey.” I am concerned about being perceived as too smooth and manipulative or as “outside of my integrity.”
Sorry for being late, but my interpretation is that charisma = warmth + confidence, and finding a balance that works for YOU. She didn’t say everyone needs to be 50% competent, 50% warm. To be honest, as women we are perceived as having higher warmth regardless of our intention I would say. Some people do bring in some more competence cues to kind of balance it out, some people go overboard. If you feel the need to bring more competence cues to your workplace interactions, do what you need to do. Maybe it will change others’ perception of you for the better.

I’m not even 10 minutes in and I’ve learned so much already! Your enthusiasm is contagious Vanessa. Thank you so so much for everything that you do. You’re a joy to listen to and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the show ❤️🥰
The “guy nod” is real. I was taught this a few years ago. When I’m in an unfamiliar space if I make eye contact with another man, I give one quick nod, hold the eye contact for a couple seconds (during which they often nod back), then look away. This gesture says “I acknowledge your presence with respect” but I am neither deferring to you nor dominating you. Unlocking this skill was a game changer.
Idk about everyone else but I love this chick, I’m so fascinated with her research and expert knowledge on these topics. She’s so interesting and I love the passion you can see on her face.. 😍
When I took exams in college, I would think in terms of mastering the material and winning the top grade, rocking the class, LOVING the material, feeling like I won the prize just by being able to go to this college and study what I had ALWAYS wanted to do all my life. I saw exams as a joy. I rewarded myself instantly by first answering all the ones where I knew the answers. That got my confidence racing. Once all those were done, I did the ones I wasn't sure about. It always worked.
Knowledge is power, understanding is wisdom. This is an educational video on the different cues of charisma. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Charismatic leaders utilize a wide range of nonverbal warmth and likeability cues. They display genuine smiles, maintain positive eye contact, use a variety of gestures, orient their torsos toward those with whom they are engaging, touch others during conversations, and so forth.
Vanessa is such a lovely and competent person. I am so happy Lewis you invited her again ❤😀 I am so glad to have the opportunity to listen to your highly insightful talk. I learn so much from it. Thank you so much!!! I 'd be so happy to meet you one day insha'Allah

In all her brilliance, it’s hard to pick a favorite moment, but for me the true highlight of the interview is when Vanessa addresses the “question inflection,” something that has driven me crazy for such a long time, but I never really understood why until now. So insightful…I love this interview!

Hey Lewis (Hand wave, Full Face Smile) Lots of Gems in this interview. She says she is an introvert, but what comes through is nothing short of explosive charisma and confidence. Obviously practicing EVERYTHING that she preaches - total alignment. - Kudos Wil be reviewing the Transcript as well. Great job bringing her back to the Shark Tank Research findings, love your focus.
I was a complete introvert. I learned to be an extrovert, it might be the same with Vanessa Van Edwards, she learned and adopted and practiced being more confident.
Charisma and being introvert are two separate and independent -not related things. you can be a confident and a charismatic introvert. Or an ambiverted introvert. In that sense. You can also be an insecure overwhelmed with anxiety extrovert.
To the person reading this: THANK YOU for being here and adding value to our world 💖 Hope you have a blessed day filled with joy, happiness, health and love! 💖

This was a great and informative interview! I learned a lot that will help me improve my nonverbal communication with others and pick up on cues they give me.
The balance of warmth and competence makes perfect sense considering we have two hemispheres. Objective rational thought is only half your brain(logic, language, arithmetic ) the other deals in recognizing emotions, faces and melody. Basically our culture teaches to use half our brain to ignore the other and we wonder why people are depressed and anxious. Only thinking objectively is how you end up living a life of regrets.

Maybe some of the content is good but I cannot get through this because I find her extremely obnoxious. I guess perception really is everything.
I love listening to Vanessa - she’s so charismatic, both warm and competent Thank you for this great video.
Amber you are the best!
This was so amazing to do! Thank you for allowing me to share
Thank you as well🧡
Vanessa you are amazing!!! Loveeeed this interview and I learned so much. Lewis you are the best interviewer ever. Your energy together is wonderful to watch.
I’m not even 10 minutes in and I’ve learned so much already! Your enthusiasm is contagious Vanessa. Thank you so so much for everything that you do. You’re a joy to listen to and I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the show ❤️🥰
Great research and information from this interview. Love it thank you for so much insight on the things I need to be aware of.
Loved your enthusiasm in all your sharings. Of course Lewis too did an amazing job as an interviewer. So fun to wacth. You two were on fire! ❤️
35:57 Mutual Connection is highly competent (37:58 Amazing Life Changing Quote)
Idk about everyone else but I love this chick, I’m so fascinated with her research and expert knowledge on these topics. She’s so interesting and I love the passion you can see on her face.. 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
She is such a good charmer, Lewis was blushing the whole podcast ❤
Thanks!
You're welcome,thank you for being here 🧡
What an Amazing Person!! She is incredibly intelligent and a fantastic teacher. A wonderful presentation.
Wow, thank you so much!! I'm honored.
Words are Energy. Be impeccable.
Great tools, and stay authentic!
Thank you so much Sonja! You are so kind!!!
She talks with so much excitement I love it
Thank you ❤
Fantastic information. I have taught the power of words for over 30 years. New words changed my life. I am grateful for this information you shared.

I found this interview full of easily accessible & impactful information. Giving examples of each idea physically and verbally was so helpful and fun to watch. Thank you for shining your light to illuminate the darkness and for helping others to shine theirs.

Hey Lewis your content is better than a college can ever teach. I listen to these podcasts and walk away with knowledge wisdom and an overall well-being. I'm so happy that I found this channel. I have recommended it to others and they all say the same thing. They say wow why isn't this taught in high schools why isn't this taught in colleges it's amazing I want to thank you for bringing this content to the masses. Keep doing what you are doing it is awesome.
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for listening.
Lewis you are such a gift to the entire word. You are stunning inside and out. We are blessed that you found yourself. Thank you for giving us so much. Sending you love and support ❤❤❤
Most charismatic personality I have ever seen in my life, Vanessa van 😊 lot of love from the State of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan ❤ keep transforming people's lives. Our best wishes with you🥰
She is wholesome ❤
Nodding up is a sign of respect and trust. Nodding down is acknowledging presence and objective respect. Direct eye contact and zero nod is a warning.
In all her brilliance, it’s hard to pick a favorite moment, but for me the true highlight of the interview is when Vanessa addresses the “question inflection,” something that has driven me crazy for such a long time, but I never really understood why until now. So insightful…I love this interview!
You're welcome🧡
This is honestly one of the best psychology based interviews I have ever seen! As someone who's always wanted to improve my social skills, I find all of this information incredibly helpful!
So glad you enjoyed it! Appreciate you for watching.
I think they both are having a great conversation. Ty for this

Thank-you Lewis & Vanessa for the great interview!! Love the quote "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care" Love it!!! Super Power

I don’t know what it is Vanessa, but whenever I listen to you just resets my nervous system to calm and content. Thx Lewis for this amazing platform.🙏🏽
Happy to hear this :)
Thank you so much 🥰
Yesss there’s something so authentic about her
Hey Lewis (Hand wave, Full Face Smile) Lots of Gems in this interview.
Thank you so much 🙂
Oprah says she too is an introvert. Go figure.
@@DiscoveryWondersthank you! It baffles me how people think introverted means you can’t be charismatic.
To the person reading this: THANK YOU for being here and adding value to our world 💖 Hope you have a blessed day filled with joy, happiness, health and love! 💖

And, the same to you 🙏
Thank you for your positive energy

This was lovely and powerful! Loved Vanessa’s response on handling toxic people in a work environment that response was magnificent!!! 💥💥💥

Confidence is saying I am amazing… but not better than another, I recommend looking in the mirror daily until you can truly say you are amazing without ego 🙏🏽🙏🏽❤️❤️
Don't be afraid of being honest about who and what you are...🥳🥳

This was a great and informative interview! I learned a lot that will help me improve my nonverbal communication with others and pick up on cues they give me.
So happy to hear that! 🙏🏻
I just love listening to vanessa. Such a treat.
Appreciate you for listening!
Such a well-prepared lady
The balance of warmth and competence makes perfect sense considering we have two hemispheres. Objective rational thought is only half your brain(logic, language, arithmetic ) the other deals in recognizing emotions, faces and melody. Basically our culture teaches to use half our brain to ignore the other and we wonder why people are depressed and anxious. Only thinking objectively is how you end up living a life of regrets.
Very interesting! I had not thought about that aspect.
@@vanessavanedwards8014 There is a lot on this subject that might interest you. I think I will make a video for you covering the science behind the things you have said, I think you might like it.

Oh yeeeah! I was looking for this comment, the chemistry creates a different kind of synergy here, so beautiful
I’m a realtor and not a salesperson or extroverted by nature. I will definitely be implementing these. Thank you for sharing!
I was a lot like you, we are similar. It takes a strong and friendly type of person to make it in realty.
Woohoo! I am so so thrilled! And happy to help = )

I'm an extrovert LO & long to leave my home office! Been awful.
wow! thank you both. to call that mandatory viewing would be an understatement of extraordinary magnitude. one of the best ways you can spend an hour fourth. unless you have no desire to see the rest of your life and the relationships within it benift. I'll be watching that a few more time . my humble thanks.
I have used this these tips to speak with patients and it really does work. I want my patients to be at ease. Especially since everyone seems so in edge these days.
I love everything about this episode, but MAINLY how she expresses her gratitude and acknowledgement to Lewis. The world would be such a better place if we could simply share how appreciative we are!
This was so helpful. I'm an introvert and always look at extroverts with envy; wishing I could be like them. I hope these tips will help me to be seen and heard differently. Thank you!
Also, the point at the end of this was so important. Gratitude.
You're welcome🧡
@@lewishowes I remembered when Oprah did a show on things people dont know about her. She said she was an Introvert. She would rather spend her time reading books than interacting with people . She really has one friend. Gail.
What fantastic, easy-to-understand, clearly communicated insights. She is amazing. And Lewis I love how, in your interviews in general, you always make sure to ask questions to make sure that you - and the audience at the same time - understand what the guest is saying. It's rare that I watch a video and really feel like I'm easily going to implement the lessons in my daily life, but that's how I feel with this one. I am only a fraction of the way through and am already amazed. Thank you!
Happy to hear this :)
Some great stuff. As far as hand gestures, yeah, I do audiobook narration and while reading to a mic all alone in a booth, using your hands is essential. It keeps it alive and communicative.
Yes absolutely!
1:07:33 my exact thought!! Another thing to note - when you fight you put your chin down to protect your jaw (and throat)

She has to be one of the most charming, engaging, insightful & beautiful individuals on the planet. Her smile can light up the universe. Her husband is so blessed… he won the lottery when she agreed to marry him!

Thank you for this podcast. I found the things you and Ms Van Edwards were discussing to be so interesting that I hopped on an online bookseller and purchased her cues book during the video. As a fellow introvert (an oblivious INTJ), many of the things she said resonated with me. I also saw myself in a few of the negative phrases and cues she was describing. I can't wait to read the book.

Beautiful Interview. One of the BEST 'Take Aways' for me was a WONDERFUL REMINDER.
When WE receive A QUE from another... Wether it be Verbal, or subtle Body Language.... The KEY TO TRUE DIPLOMATIC COMMUNICATION is in ASKING OURSELVES: I See, Hear, and or FEEL that.... Now ' How can I HONOR IT' ? 😘💖🙏🌎✌🏼
Most of society is based around supporting the negative EGO... rather than being spiritual...all kinds of selfishness... negative synergy/darkside...😰😰
Beautifully said!❤
