- What if I told you the Seattle Seahawks had a chance to select the best defensive tackle in the entire draft at pick 16? Would you have stayed there and picked, or still wanted to trade down to accumulate more selections?
Well, John Schneider chose to do the former, adding Murphy to Mike Macdonald's defensive front.
What does the 21 year old have to offer? And what might the rest of the draft look like for the Hawks?

This O line class is so deep that there will be potential starter quality G available @81.
There are two pairs of inside DTs that I see win SBs: Chunk and Thunk, or Thunder and Lightning. We signed Chunk Johnathan Hankins to play alongside Thunk Leo Williams, who could also play Thunder. Murphy is a hybrid who can be Chunk, Thunk, Thunder or Lightning whenever he wants to be. We now have two blue chip DTs and a couple guys I expect to be reddish chips under Coach Mike, and the future is bright! Getting Murphy seems evocative of Cortez Kennedy!
WR isn't a need right now. DK, Ty, JSN, Shenault, Eskridge, White, Young and Winston is a solid core. I think you just wait and grab some UDFA Wrs to see what they got and fortify LB or S instead.
That said, where you took Pratt at 118, Brenden Rice of USC was available and he would be, by far and away the best of the remaining WRs. So if WR is indeed part of the plan, pass on Pratt for Rice (pun intended).
Other guys I would love way more than Pratt that are available at 118 in this mock are:

LB Williams (Miami)
RB Bucky Irving (UO)
Edge Javon Solomon (Troy)
C Bortolini (Wisky)
CB Jackson (UO)
CB Smith-Wade (WSU)
S Oladapo (OSU) and
OT Goncalves (Pitt).
Like you said, they've essentially drafted a 4th round QB this year by acquiring Howell. Carrying 3 QBs is a waste of allocation. Particularly when Pratt and Howell are similar skill sets. So many other places to shoreup the roster with a quality player.

I agree with you…LB/Colson would be a great next pick. I also ran several PFN mocks but he’s gone in the 70s every time. Trotter and Williams are next up who are available at 81.
Michael Lombardi who evaluates 3 techs well and values them more than most people said if him and Al Davis were still at the raiders with the #1 pick theyd pick murphy

I have never seen a draft so offensive sided in the first half of the draft! My first choice was to trade back. But if they stayed and picked, it would be either Dallas Turner, Troy Fauntanu or Byron Murphy...well that worked out alright. No way we are going to carry 3 Qb's though...you know that. other than that, I like that draft.

The fact that Murphy fell to us at 16 is crazy. I think the falcons taking Penix really helped with keeping the run on offensive players going.
I wanted Carter last year, glad we got Spoon and now we have Murphy who could be just as good.

DTs in my lifetime that were special. Page, Green, White, Watt and Donald. If Murphy is 70% of those guys, he's a HoF player. Why? Those 5 were Godly good. He has the traits to be very good. Will he be time will tell.
So I really wanted Troy Fautanu. But I'm excited for Byron Murphy. The whole time I felt like we woukd go defense if a few players were still on board by the time we got to #16. I did not think every one of those players would be available at #16. Especially Murphy. But low and behold he was there. I hope we address G today. But I do see they clearly have a direction for the defense and that is exciting because we really needed to address our DL. Murphy was an excellent selection and to be there at #16 could turn out to be incredibly special. With that said I am so freaking happy for MPJ, Rome, and Fautanu. For MPJ and Rome to go #8 and #9 was special. And for Fautanu to go to his favorite NFL team even though it's Pittsburgh is special. What a fun 1st round of the draft. I really believe Penix is going to be one of the best picks in the draft. I don't care what anybody thinks, that kid has the mind and the heart to succeed in the NFL and I personally believe he will thrive in Atlanta. He has some great offensive pieces around him.
Florio & C.Simms & Peter King love B.Murphy2 (who loves HoF LoB M.Bennett & is 12s from age 10). Top DT's are v expensive so to get 1 on a rookie deal is GREAT.

The Fantastic 4 (Big Cat-Jarran-Cobra Murphy-M.Morris)(backed up by Dre & Young, etc), are really good Trench boys who will play very well this yr, giving a huge boost to the 12s D.
Cobra Murphy is big big fan of LoB & his fave SB is Hawks win. Fave player is Mike Bennett.
12s are as happy as Florio who got a great QB in JJ. ( UK Maths profs just predicted JJ & Penix & Nix will be better than Caleb JD & Maye, a la what hapoened in QB draft of 1983),
The 12s got a AD99/ Bennett hybrid 2.0, but Murphy is at v young age of 21, & it means BM2 will be better than Mike & win more SB's with Seahawks very soon. JS got worried about fautanu's knee health. Grubb knows TF very well, so we should trust them in rejecting big Troy.
BIGGEST RUN WALL WILL BE BUILT. & NO Team WILL RUN on the 12s, just like the good old days of the LoB who were ranked the top D 4 seasons in a row, the only D to ever do that, & the only D to smash the GOAT O led by 50 TD's Manning. ( as per KJ WRIGHT)

Saw this morning that the hawks and other teams tried to trade for penix.
Do you see hawks giving 81 & 1 4th to move into the 2nd tmr?
I am not mad about the pick however, without a 2nd round I would have loved us to move down and get a 2nd.
As I am watching your simulator why the heck would the Commanders take Spencer Rattler in the 3rd when they already drafted Daniels? that would make absolutely no sense! When I ran the same simulator they had Spencer Rattler going to Patriots which again makes no sense... I am throwing the simulators away... LOL

Murphy is a Dogg Best of the Best along with his team mate Montez Sweat! Both are the best players for U,Texas, in for Defense across the Nation. WE Needed him more than this 16th Pennix idea, what matters more for the need don't need a QB in 24!! Go Hawks !!

Zinter will be a great one. I think they will take a G/C as the other pick, because they only have Nick Harris as back-up at C so...Van Pran at 102. Zinter at 118. Colson or Trotter at 81.

They needed to take 2 DTs last draft and only got Cam Young.
Young is and was always going to be a rotational run stuffer. I don't see anything changing on that front. This gives the Hawks much more versatility and 4-down power along the DL.

No way the guy shouldn't have been there at sixteen. You wanted to trade down but you couldn't pass the guy up. He's in some drafted top 5 but easily top 10.
Penix would have been a horrible pick. Not because of the player because he was a QB you didn't need if you think Howell is anything. He's younger.
They won't take Pratt. He has a very weak arm. Look at his "highlight films" - almost every "big throw" he makes is under-thrown and the WRs have to run back to the ball. Colson or Trotter should be there at 81 and maybe 102. I think they will take 2 guards between 81-118.

Maye was a horrible pick. Going 3 for a 4th round at best talent at QB. Horrible pick with a huge bust factor. The chances of him being good is not high.
