The only way we will get the name Redskins back, is if we have a huge event get all of the Indian Chiefs nationally to sign there name for approval, and then actually tell the story of how we got the nickname and the honor that it brings. Then we can celebrate! That the way to do it!
That will never happen. They are too divided on the name. Even Blackie Wetzel's family doesn't agree. His grandson fought to have the name changed. If they wanted keep the name, they should have fought for it before it was changed. The old name is not coming back. Best that we find a new name that doesn't suck like the current one and move forward.

Nobody likes change, but the name Redskins was horrible from the beginning. It's offensive to some people, yeah, but if a new team decided to call itself "Whiteskins, Blackskins, Yellowskins" they would be laughed at by the rest of the league

Red Wolves is the perfect replacement. The problem is your going to have to pay ASU if you want to use it. ASU told the South Carolina team they could remain using the name if they paid royalties so I'm pretty sure they'd let us use it if we send some cash their way. The big question is does Josh Harris see that as a smart business move or not. Personally I think he'd make ten times the money from Red Wolves merch than he will from Commanders merch. I refuse to buy anything Commanders.

Commanders was a cop out choice. Dan and crew thought that by choosing something like that they could say they were honoring the military to reverse the bad press they were getting. I bet not even they loved the name but they knew it was the safest thing they could do from a PR perspective.
Odds are Dan saw a chance to make some money off the the military association. Get some of that U.S. Government money by having numerous celebration days for all branches of the military.
If anything, we should be called the Washington Warriors. That way we can keep the Indian Logo, still use the W at times and even the arrow, and it would pay respect to Native Americans!! No one can say that being called a Warrior is disrespectful.
The Commanders name is just so corny, I can't even say it. I like the name Warriors, keep the original logo and uniforms. Keep it American Indian based.

There is no other name it should be changed to accept the Redskins. It never should of been changed. The talk of the new regime owners, coaching staff, free agents signed, and the draft class is exciting. But to top it off and to truly be successful again is bring back the Redskins! Nothing else, or no other name will do! And they never should have changed the Bullet's either.

Not much of an NFL guy , but in my personal opinion I loved the Redskins name/logo! But since it was deemed 'controversial' and 'offensive' (which I don't agree with at all) I'd say call them the Redwolves! Use Matthew Harvey's awesome concepts for the teams next rebrand. But if the only 2 options to pick between are Washington Commanders and Washington Football Team , I'd go with option 2. because the name 'Commanders' sucks!

Even Commandos would have been better than the Commanders. Our mascot is the lamest one that I've ever seen. The word Redskins started as a racial slur but over time that changed to a name of pride. I've seen a ton of videos where American Indians don't take offence to the name. The Redskins were their team and they were proud of having a team.

I categorically disagree with the statement that 83% of Washington Football Team fans will hate any other name than Commanders! First of all it's a TERRIBLE name! But more importantly, it will ALWAYS be associated with Dan Snyder! Of course you're not going to get unanimous support for any new name, but I believe whole heartedly that the majority of fans will accept a different name! My first choice would be Red Wolves, but I also like Warriors with the use of an update to the old arrow helmet. But in end I'll take ANYTHING over the Commanders!!!!!!!
I get that Snyder sucks and I’m glad he’s gone.
But the name getting changed wasn’t his fault. He was basically under threat of blacklisting and had a financial gun to his head.
I'd argue that this whole thing is Snyder's fault. When the groups wanting the name changed started pursuing legal options, Snyder did every disingenuous thing he could rather than working with and listening to them. He tried to use the Wetzel family's relationship as a weapon against the groups and in turn caused the Wetzel's to hate him. His Original People's fund was a complete farce and quit providing any money after a couple years. Had he actually worked with them we could have possibly only changed the name and kept the logos but his actions made them want any Native representation removed from the team.

I think winning has zero to do with it. Sure fans will be happy if they win but too many people despise the brand enough that they're not going to suddenly change their minds and start buying merchandise. People know that if they don't buy the merchandise, they'll change the name. I know a ton of people that refuse to buy Commanders merchandise. They want a brand they can be proud of along with a winning team. Too many people hate Commanders as a brand.

I bet this going to happen and I predict-- once their new dome stadium is close to completion and is ready to open, that's when The Harris Group will pick a new name during the last year as the Commanders.
I believe they'll change the name as well. Too many people hate Commanders and I know a ton of people that refuse to buy Commanders merchandise. Harris is a businessman and he knows it's not a wise business decision to keep a name that the majority of fans hate. They need to change it ASAP. I sure hope it's not once a stadium is built, that would be torture.

If the new name harkens back to the glory days somehow - unlike Commanders which means nothing - it will have much more support than 17%. Dan Quinn's t-shirt proved that. ANYTHING that harkens back to Gibbs and Riggins and winning Super Bowls will have mad support. They just have to be clever about it.
