The problem with George seems to be that he seems to have an inflated opinion of his role in the success of Star Trek. He was not a co-star , he was a supporting player, his characters absence would not have caused any issues with the running of the series- His character does not appear in a number of episodes. The main draw of the show was Kirk, Spock and McCoy. Shatner would have every right to comment on scripts and camera set ups - as the star of the show he had a vested interest in its success.
Tell everyone again that's so true he wasn't the star of the show Shatner was along with his co-stars and it's awful funny the other people that played with them might have said a word or two about Shatner from time to time but they basically weren't having an extreme jealousy or hate for him and they didn't carry on like little babies George Takei is too old to be acting like an ass he's not leading by example for younger people that are coming up in the industry or even in the world he's ridiculous and he's made me not like him because of his attitude
I’d like to think your right but your not. Shatner was a nobody at that time. He would have no more say over scripts then who was on the show. Today actors, the stars of the show have more power than Shatner ever did. He went were the director told him to go. He may have suggest camera angles, wanting to do a scene over again with a different angle. Almost every director will let their actor do this. If it works great they use the shot. If it doesn’t then it doesn’t. But he as the actor had no say on what those shots, the finished show looked like. As for the scenes where George says Shatner stole lines or changed them (he has said this in other videos not this one) As the person in charge of the Character, it is his responsibility to make sure the show stays true to the character. So he may have suggested that a line said by Sulu is best said by Kirk because that’s where it should have come from in the first place. You don’t see an ensign telling the captain to fire the torpedos. You as the ensign wait for the captain to say it.
@@auntiem873 - Shatner was not a nobody at the time. He was the star of the show, who also had some reasonable film a television expierence behind him. He was chosen as the lead for a reason.
@@mackerel129 - he was but it’s also TV - TV actors were a dime a dozen. It’s not till later that people began to understand actors have fans a following and not the producers or show. (Not always the show.) He was still a nobody back then. Yes he was the star of the show but he had no clout. In Shatner’s words not mine. He came in when they told him and he didn’t dare ask for a change because he was just an actor. It’s why he doesn’t understand this dude between him and George. George said he did all sorts of stuff because he was the star. Shatner says he didn’t do anything that any actor could do. He didn’t tell the director where he should stand, he asked if it would look better if he did it from this direction opposed from that?. A good director will take the actors advice and try it. If it doesn’t work no harm. If it does, they didn’t waste the opportunity to make a better show. George on the other hand, is mad that he didn’t get the same consideration for his character. That’s not Shatner’s fault. Lenard expressed the same things as George did after the show ended. From an interview he gave - He said he didn’t think it was right that he would approach the director to get better shots. Then later in says now he understands why he did it. Having been a director he didn’t mind actors approaching him and asking for different takes - if there was time. A lot of the times they were good if not better shots. He also realized a lot of the frustrations he was feeling was not at Shatner but at what was happening with his personal life at the time but it was easier to blame Shatner instead of himself. He also understood that Shatner was oblivious to the other cast members problems. That’s because he was going through some issues himself. Some were his father being sick and then dying while he was filming the show. His wife was divorcing him and taking the kids and he was having trouble getting time off work to go to court to fight for custody. At the end of the show, he was broke and living in his car. While everyone else had a home and family. No one knew that though. Not till much later on. I could go on and on. The feud is just stupid and George needs to just stop, move on with his life.
It was amusing at first(still is honestly lol),...and I thought that maybe Takei maybe had a valid point about being side-lined,...but the level he's taken this against William Shatner is just ridiculous. There's obviously a jealousy there. Sure Shatner is a little pompous,...but he's also a loveable, charming badass. Takei needs to move on.
Plus Shatner has worked his ass off for years and maintained his craft. That's evidenced by Boston Legal just for one. Plus he's done TV projects that interested him. What has George Takei given us? Whiny loser.
TALKIE WOULD HAVE NOTHING IF NOT GAY--his big thing is he cant be done away with since gay EVERYONE HAS TO WORSHIP ANY RUMP PUMPER AS MESSIANIC MASTER RACE

I agree with shadow. Sulu should be kissing Kirk's ass for letting him on the show to begin with. If Shatner wanted the dude fired for some reason , he would likely be replaced. If he were really a dick and didn't like him. Sulu looks jealous and envious and its a bad look.
the Big Star Capt. Kirk apparently robbed Lt. Sulu of some of his toothy, creepy, sweaty, TV color close-ups...I've often asked myself what could have made Star Trek even better?....but more of Sulu, without a shirt...-not so much...

Takei has literally made a career out of posting other people’s memes on social media and trash talking Shatner. That’s some legacy he’ll leave behind.

😄 Interesting! Only, to be fair, I think Tina Louise actually went on to have a much bigger string of various film and TV roles after Gilligan’s Island through the years than Takei did after ST. And she was much more crucial/iconic to her “unexpectedly legendary” series than Takei was to ST. No one, to my knowledge, ever engaged in any “Sulu or Chekhov?” cultural question, whereas the extraterrestrials that finally conquer and devour us will probably be asking each other, “Ginger or Maryann?” a thousand years from now. 🧐😅
Let me settle this once and for all. William Shatner MADE Star Trek. The persona of Captain Kirk made that show, to be sure there were a lot of other actors that were very good and contributed greatly to the show, but for me it was always about Kirk. He was the star, and I am sure there was jealousy because of that and it rubbed people the wrong way. But his embodiment of Kirk inspired a generation of people, myself included, to pursue an interest in science, And actually many of the other actors did too. They were all good, but Bill was the star of the show. Get over it and move on Mr Takei.
I don't know, what's going on between them. I just wanted to say: No, he is not. Kirk as a one man show wouldn't work. To be honest, with his double fist punch, running around topless half the time, he was ... a bit ridiculous. I don't say I don't like Shatner. I do. Both as Kirk and in other shows (Denny Crane *_*), but Kirk wasn't as important as you stated. It was at least the trio of him, Bones and Spock, but in the end Enterprise was epic because of all of them.
budvido .budvido : Nope. Gene Roddenberry made Star Trek. It was definitely a story driven, ensemble program. Alot of different actors were approached who turned down the part and who would've been good in that role. Glenn Ford, Jack Lord, Jeffrey Hunter (who was cast), all turned down the role. All of them could've played the Captain and done a great job with it.. Shatner is a great classically trained actor who added dimension to his character, but his character was not indispensable to the show's success, the character could be recast. Star Trek stood on its own with exceptional well written stories. It wasn't the Captain Kirk show, it was Star Trek. The stories and chemistry of the ensemble cast are what made it. Roddenberry was a visionary.
@@Zwiebelbaguette I agree that Star Trek wouldn't have worked if it was all about Kirk. I don't think anyone is saying that this was the case. Obviously Leonard Nimoy & Deforest Kelley's acting was a huge part of the show too. They all played off each other. Kirk was a man of action while Spock was the voice of reason. Bones was the humanitarian. But getting the right actor to play a leading role is extremely important in any series. If they had got some other actor to play Captain Kirk what would have been the chances of them being as memorable as Bill? A perfect example of what I am talking about is Star Trek: Into Darkness. Specifically Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan. No offense to the man. Hes a capable actor but Ricardo Montalbán's portrayal as Khan was 1000 x better. He made that character come to life.
Know what I agree with William Life's too short to hold a grudge I mean it's time to get over it okay George it's too long it's time to say forget about it just like Robert De Niro says forget about it ain't worth it come on man just like Joe buying or says come on man, George keep a stiff upper lip Lee William Shatner alone
Remember Takei's guest appearance in 3rd Rock - whether it was just a 'version' of himself but he came off as a pompous ass. Even if you watch the films there's a smugness to him. Shatner's comment when Takei came out about whether it really matters, obviously took wind out of the sails.
William Shatner is definitely a National Treasure and a very wonderful man and my opinion he has done so many things out there so many makes things and he keeps his toys and usually conducts himself very well he doesn't act a full of nasty and he doesn't run around trying to bad-mouth his work colleagues an act immature stubborn hateful Angelus I George Takei I've lost all respect for him because he's going on for decades with this and he needs to cool out with it cuz it's very annoying he's lucky I wasn't one of his colleagues he needs a good slap in the face
@@gypsylotusblossom777 absolutely!!! It will be the end of a era when William Shatner passes away, hopefully not for a long time. He has been one of the faces on TV while I was growing up in star trek and TJ hooker etc, and he has always been around well before I was born. He has had a amazing life.
I reckon Takei fell in love with Bill on the set, and held it in him all those years, afraid to come out and say it - beating himself up inside and he's now taking it out on him!
Other possible reasons why Shatner was not invited. 1) Feared the Romulans would attack if Shatner presided over the wedding. 2) Strong possibility that Shatner might sing if asked. 3) Stronger possibility that he would sing if no one asked. 4) Shatner threatened to "Name His Own Price" when buying from the registry. 5) Shatner's plan to object at the "Does anyone know why this couple should not be joined in Holy Matrimony" and sell the rights to the National Enquirer was uncovered just days before. 6) Shatner is vehemently against Gay Divorce. 7) Shatner was planning on doing a one up on George and marry a Gorn becoming the first inter-alien marriage in history. 8) George and Shatner were planning on settling their feud on Family Feud but Shatner couldn't think of the top 3 answers for "Name something you associate with Star Trek." 9) Shatner suffers from a debilitating case of both Coulrophobia which is a fear of clowns and Spectromania, obsession with mirrors, and if he is off his medication it could spell trouble. 10) George and his partner felt that Shatner would hang around after the reception hoping someone would recognize him.
the Big Star Capt. Kirk apparently robbed Lt. Sulu of some of his toothy, creepy, sweaty, TV color close-ups...I've often asked myself what could have made Star Trek even better?....but more of Sulu, without a shirt...-not so much...
And that's not Shatner's problem either you know what I mean whatever problem George Takei had with getting work in the industry had nothing to do with Shatner or any of the other work colleagues he had or anybody else that he's dealt with out there it's how the cards fall sometime some people have extreme luck or blessings others don't some people got pull and someone behind the scenes to help them get where they have to go and some don't it's as simple as that George Takei should be ashamed of himself and he's an idiot
Usually in any feud, BOTH sides are in the wrong to same degree. George was clearly overly-vitriolic in his speech at Shatner's roast, while Shatner was in the wrong trying to prove that he could be a director on the ST TV series sets trying to re-stage scenes to give himself more camera time, which started this whole feud between Shatner and the ST supporting cast to begin with. James (Scotty) Doohan hated Statner for this reason. Sweet Nichele Nichols revealed what Shatner was trying to do on those TV series sets in her book, but that ultimately didn't make for any mending of the feuds between Shatner, Doohan, Takai, or anyone else. The whole multi-tiered feud is silly, but will likely never be mended because the damage is done and all those Hollywood egos will always clash. Sad but true. I think that it's best for us ST fans to just let it all go and just ignore these personal feuds between these actors as much as we can and just enjoy the finished TV shows and movies for what they are,,cuz ultimately there's nothing we can do about it by discussing it, or taking any aide of the feud, which just divides and weakens ST fandom, and is ultimately unproductive and needlessly destructive to the idealistic memory of the ST phenomenon.
Interesting that Grace Lee Whitney had nothing bad to say about Shatner...and that is because she didn't hung around long enough to experience his eventual fits of grand standing ego on the set.
Shatner was the STAR of the show, why shouldn't he ask for a close-up? Takei was only cast for diversity's sake and because he could deliver lines without sounding stereotype 'chop-suey', which was contrary to the general treatment to Asian actors at the time. If he were a featured actor like Nimoy or DeForest Kelley, then he might have a reason to be upset about camera placement, but George was a bit player at best and could have been written out faster than you can say "Grace Lee Whitney". It is ridiculous to hold such a grudge for all of these years. They're both attention whores though and neither seems to realize they're the source of their own ridicule regarding this "feud".
Even if Bill Shatner got invited but chose not to go, I could still see his point of view. Takei pretty much ignored Shatner for 25 years or more. So, how can George Takei expect Bill Shatner to be concerned about things important in his life when he's never been concerned about things important in Shatner's life? In fact, from what I understand Takei didn't just ignore Shatner but also said some rather bad things behind his back. So now Bill's supposed to drop his plans and make room in his schedule for Takei's wedding? That just kind of feels rather vain and arrogant of Takei.
Sulu is a really, really terrible actor...I mean seriously bad. He owes SO much of his career to Star Trek, and in effect William Shatner, that it's not even funny. It's incomprehensible that Sulu would express so much animosity to a person that did so much for him, whether by default or not...even decades later. I can't even gather that Shatner did Sulu any personal damage whatsoever, either. Sulu should just thank Shatner and shut the fuck up about the whole thing. I get it...he didn't like him, but why continue with that? Sulu is completely irrelevant without Shatner, yet he keeps taking petty stabs at him and shits on what he perceived his character is.
He's not actually a bad actor. Portraying a disappointed father on Heroes... After all, it was something he himself had little experience with and it was done really well.
William is great!!! It is one thing to have one hit TV show. Two hit shows are all most unheard of, but three hit TV shows is a sign of true greatness.
"....Remember...TAKEI...as in TOUPEE..." LOL I agree with everything you said. George has this evil grudge for decades and is jealous that he never got the center seat of the Enterprise. He's always trying to out-fame you with all these public acts including, quite belligerently, not inviting you to his wedding.
If you are really good at something,i mean really really good,a bit of ego it's justified. You are different. You are special.Unique and important..the star of a show.So bill was difficult,so what?If it wasn't for him the show wouldn't be as successful as it was. That's a fact.A charismatic protagonist is an important element for every show. But we will never know what actually happened..bill seems to be a guy who is a bit full of himself desperatelly wanting to be the center of attention, but on the other hand george is depressingly fixated on him even after all those years..envy comes to mind.
I bumped into him on a flight from New York to Hawaii recently. People imagine he's gone a bit wacko but he says it's "just about keeping myself in work". Very candid, totally at ease with himself and the other passangers. And doesn't have a drink problem, contrary to rumours. The strongest thing he had was a diet soda all trip. Really splendid guy.
Shatner is entirely right about this. That Takei is STILL bitching about some perceived minor slights decades ago is indeed sad. He does seem consumed by jealousy to a pathological degree and there may also be a large element of cynical attention-seeking in his campaign.
I've heard exactly two stories about Bill Shatner from friends of mine who met him. Both were flabbergasted by his generosity and down-to-earth attitude. He mentioned a really good place to eat to a friend of mine who tended bar, then later made it a point to send her food from the restaurant. It wasn't a pick-up tactic or anything. He just wanted to make her day. My other friend's daughter is an actor. She's worked with Shatner and said he is, by far, the nicest actor she's worked with.
That "sese of self" George hated so much is what made Kirk such a legendary character and is why Shatner got the job. I think George is just jelly... so much jelly in his mad bro
William Shatner reminds me of my father. We watched Star Trek when I was a kid and I have fond memories. It's sad George couldn't let what ever was bothering him go. It's far better to move on and live in peace then to carry hate in your heart for so long. If George See's these comments I hope he can do that for himself. It will give him peace in his old age.
@XMOO7 Yes, the woman interviewing Shatner is one of his daughters. I can't remember which one though. Just a bit of trivia, one of his daughters had a very very small part in Star Trek V.
I am pretty sure that most of the time, if not all, Takei was not on Shatner's radar. Takei behaves like a woman scorned. It's amusing....like Shatner living rent-free in Takei's mind, for decades.
I met in Cap. Kirk while in collage 1978. He came on tour. I was disappointed at first because all he did was his poetry. I expected some Star Trek stuff. When he completed his dialog he took questions. He pointed at me and I stood up and was nervous as hell. This was CAPTIAN KIRK and I was talking to him. He smiled at me because my voice was trembling. Some students were laughing at me but then he said Hush! Man.. For a young man 18 years old talking to his hero was a thrill I'll never forget.
The sheer dynamism of Shatner's robust performance as Captain Kirk is one of the main reasons for the show's success. Takei, on the other hand, was able to take an extended leave to appear in "The Green Berets" with John Wayne and his absence didn't hurt the show at all.
The statements of Bill and George are often contradictory on this matter. They can't both be telling the truth. Only they know, not anyone commenting here.
i'll say one thing........ i've seen that takei's story re: shatner has occasionally changed on very significant points. for example he said shatner wasn't invited, and later said shatner ignored his invite. i didn't read takei's autobiography but i've heard it's dripping with a rather petulant narcissism. i do like his facebook page though. ohhhh myyyy! hahhaa
You aren’t demonstrating any wisdom here. Takei is the accuser of wrongdoings by Shatner - but Takei won’t say what they are. He just smears. So spare us your Hallmark card idiocy and go take a nap.
(I wasn't there) maybe you were so focused on your own career that is why you didn't notice him. From the interviews I saw that George gave, it seems like he had good relations with the other cast members.. the question you should be asking yourself is: why were you different?
According to George, Shatner WAS invited. He and Brad were baffled by Shatner's reaction and claim of being snubbed until they discovered he had some project coming out and it timed out to create all the extra drama. So it was an "aha" moment. Shatner is so off the mark here.
Yeah but he said he didn't invite him at some point too. We'll never know the truth I guess. I sympathize with Shatner in the fact that George says mean things about him out of nowhere every time he's talking in public.
Wait a minute, didnt George come to the Roast of William Shatner? I think he did, and that was after the wedding. So i thought things were better between them. I can relate, and empathize with the feelings involved. Thank you for sharing, you are loved by so many Mr. Shatner. Personal feelings for friends are not always easy to share for different reasons.
"It's sad, I fell nothing but pity for him". Right. That's why I just spent 6 minutes talking about a guy I never took the time to know, denigrating him, and clevery using his latent homosexuality when I worked with him as a truth to attach to possible motive for his terrible action of not wanting James T. Kirk to outshine him, AGAIN, on his wedding day. I love the character. Hell, Muhammad Ali or Captain Kirk, I'd take that as my next incarnation (just retire early). But Shatner seems to have been poised for the question. Insecure...actor...shocked, SHOCKED to find out gambling has been going on in this establishment!
Or he's addressing the fact that Takei never shuts up about him. I can't hold a grudge for 1 year, let alone 47 years. Maybe Shatner was a douche, or stole the spot light, or an egotistical jerk. That doesn't matter, it was 47 years ago. George Takei obviously has a problem. Shatner is right, it is sad.
Nun Ya He's responding to a question about being pointedly snubbed; is he just supposed to ignore the question? He merely addressed the subject as requested, hardly the same as your absurd characterization: "acting butthurt". Hopefully you were just having a stupid moment, because I'd hate to think you're really dumb enough to go through life misinterpreting everything as badly as you did this interview. As for the other part of your idiotic comment about Tokai being "not alone in his sentiment", it's a cheap shot that would be totally irrelevant if there really were other cast members sharing his pettiness and jealousy, but I doubt any others are big enough losers to be carrying a grudge to this day. If they are, they too are worthy of nothing but pity for their pathetic grudges.
No, friend Greg Vinson, not ignore or not respond. MY point and words were that he seemed to be POISED, PREPARED, to denigrate, passive agressive style, perhaps you missed that, honestly? I care not, I know NEITHER at all, and like I ALSO SAID, I love the character, as most red blooded males do. I love him in pretty much everything I have seen him in, he has GREAT acting chops, did stage, all that, I believe...I am just about being TRUTHFUL, and the TRUTH is, Takei had a wedding, HIS wedding, and chose not to invite mister center of the universe, who TRUTHFULLY most of ALL his cast mates could not stand. He didn't (as I said, in the original post) wish to be upstaged, AGAIN, by this great persona, the day of HIS WEDDING. So Shatner is incapable of being gracious? I mean, "We weren't really close, its been a lot of years...no, I am not offended, it was his wedding". WHO would have thought Shatner was a bad guy for saying such as that? Nobody, of course. HE, his insecurity, like MOST ACTORS ARE FILLED WITH, has him practically spewing a rehearsed, well thought of anyway mean spirited take on things, playing THE VICTIM. If you don't see that, that is fine. Maybe I am wrong, but gun to my head, million dollars in a suitcase, tell the truth and win or lose, THAT is what I see here. Actually, disappointing as it takes the guy who played James T. Kirk, Stud of studs, down a peg, when you see it, not that any of that matters, just saying. Oh, and he might well have drowned his damn wife, that sort of sucked, when it all went by...or let her die. THAT is pure conjecture, but... PEACE.
You are correct that I missed some of what you said. I didn't connect that the short comment I replied to was from the same person as the start of the thread, but it doesn't change anything really. You're accusing Shatner of playing the victim, but your guesses about him being too "POISED" and "PREPARED" are just more conjecture to support your other conjecture about him playing victim or being "butthurt" (dumbest word ever btw-unless you're 12 and being gross and naughty is still a thrill, never use "butthurt" when you mean "hurt". I understand the trend, everyone does it so don't take it personally, but I find it dumb, gross, a pointless cheap shot, and annoying-my own pet peeve for what it's worth). Anyway, if someone is looking to accuse me of playing the victim, and I am asked "why do you think so and so snubbed you?", anything I reply is going to be me playing the victim in their eyes. It's a no-win, like asking someone to tell you about themselves and then someone else accusing you of being self centered because you complied. There is no way people this high profile are going to casually have a wedding to which every member of the cast of a legendary tv show, except the star of the show is invited, so it couldn't be anything but a very public, glaring snub; the price of fame I guess. With that in mind, it would be almost superhuman for Shatner to resist the temptation to go over what he would say when the time came, so accusing him of rehearsing is like accusing him of being human. As far as him not being gracious, I'm not so sure I'd feel all that gracious to some jealous fellow cast member who has been sniping at me for decades. I think it's a lot more ungracious of Tokai to invite everyone but Shatner than it was of Shatner to answer the question as he did.
I don't like everything that Takei says and does. Definitely. But given that Takei and Shatner didn't like eachother, i don't understand why Takei would be obligated to invite him to his wedding, a strictly personal affair.
Shatner is just such a likable fellow! There is something very fatherly about him. He possesses charisma. I've never seen him do or say anything in public that would cause your average normal American to dislike him for any reason! So I vote for William Shatner in this election!
@nomdesouris i must have missed it where Shatner was complaining about NOT being invited. did i? it doesn't sound - by this video - that Shatner was asking why he didn't get invited to the wedding.
Let’s finally admit it. George Takei should have been the captain and Shatner maybe a small part as one of the regular crew if he were lucky. George had great presence on screen. He was a magnificent personality and actor and was an electric force on the show. He stole every scene and raised the level of excitement to the ceiling even with the small part he was given. He was a great physical power as well and would have been much better in the combat and love scenes. He was brave, confident and resourceful. If he were the captain as he rightfully should have been he would have increased the audience to unbelievable levels. The show would never have been cancelled and would have continued running to this day. They should have changed the name of the show to Captain Sulu presents Star Trek, starring George Takei.
"George Takei Statement on William Shatner "It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend. It is our hope that at this point he joins us in voting NO on Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California." --George Takei, October 22, 2008 "
im probably SUPER late about this stuff with shatner and takei but what happend? like i remember on the shatner roast takei and him seemed like old friends but was that before or after the drama started?
I run a winery in ventura County.People have come in who know Mr.Shatner and say for the success he has had in life.He is a very down to earth man,and treats those people around him with courtesy.for Mr.Takei,to still be hung up on something that happened 40 years ago!!geez! Thats one way to wreck a new marriage!who wants to listen to all that ancient history on their honeymoon! Let it go george!
Hi, Bill! When I hear comments from your former castmates, I'm reminded "Galaxy Quest". Did you enjoy the film, and how well did it spoof the Star Trek experience?
Obviously George had a huge man crush on Bill, and it drove him nuts to see Bill doing all these sex scenes and always getting the woman. I think maybe George came out to Shatner and he got "rubbed" the wrong way.
The Shatner needs to extend an olive branch regardless of whatever is between them , and do it publicly. maybe a humble apology and open invitation can heal this. I was an abused child and I made my peace with my parents , so this is nothing compared to what I went through. One has to be the bigger man and rid themselves of this poison that hides in both of them.
Not sure if this is new news or not but just did a random search on Wikipedia and came up with this - apparently Mr. Takei and his partner DID invite Mr. Shatner to the wedding, according to Mr. Takei's author friend Peter David(?), but that Mr. Shatner never RSVP. I'm still rather skeptical of the statement on Wiki though the "don't believe everything you read" warning bell going off. I lean more towards Mr. Shatner as he would not have done this youtube statement if there wasn't some validity
Don't say that Jim, you got lots of years left and I hope to see you soon reprise your roll, they gotta do it. See you around, and make more of these there are great. Wish I was the cameraman. haha.
I think SULU just didn't want to be upstaged at his own wedding. =) You should have just beamed yourself aboard, Captain. Have a great day.. you make us smile, Bill! =)
Yeah, I never noticed the issue between them in the flim at all D:. And I thought Captain Kirk was like a symbol of America or something like that that's why they are so focused on him. :/ hmmm....
Shatner is interviewed in the new documentary Transcendent Man, he even has a long quote in the trailer. The trailer is on youtube, just type in "transcendent man trailer". I look forward to what he has to say about technology.
"Mr. Scott" also claimed "I liked Captain Kirk, but I don't like Bill". The same reason was given: he hogged scenes. He said Shatner was: "insecure". So, probably it did happen. Obviously, some actors , like Leonard Nemoy, just shrugged it off, while others were really hurt.
Bill, I have to agree with you.... I tend to believe George has a major jealousy problem. Your career has been non-stop for decades and his last gig was being a chump for Howard Stern. By having a wedding and not inviting you, he can 'shine' without that 'horrible' Shatner 'hogging' the spotlight. Keep up the terrific work.....
I've never heard of Takei to be the most honorable of men. Most hollywood type celebrities who make a big deal out of their sexuality tend to hate on those who don't like that they make a big deal out of it. I feel for you, Shatner. This interview actually made me like you better.
Its a shame they don't get along, they are both great men who have had great careers. Both have done some amazing work for the community in the past and I'm sure we can all agree that Star Trek has had a very positive impact on our world.
The interviews done on the Howard Stern show are VERY telling and candid as the Stern show usually is. Takei fired the first salvo and Shatner actually responded, when he has one a few weeks later and played the tape, VERY casually and just said that it was "mean".
Exactly!
As for the scenes where George says Shatner stole lines or changed them (he has said this in other videos not this one)
As the person in charge of the Character, it is his responsibility to make sure the show stays true to the character.
(Not always the show.)
He was still a nobody back then.

OMG you hit the nail on the head!
ShadowWalker1971 Exactly! I think he had a problem with Shatner‘s ego, as well, per my comment above.
I agree with shadow. Sulu should be kissing Kirk's ass for letting him on the show to begin with. If Shatner wanted the dude fired for some reason , he would likely be replaced. If he were really a dick and didn't like him. Sulu looks jealous and envious and its a bad look.

I feel sorry for George. Angry, bitter man.
Just seeing his ramblings on twitter just confirms Shat was the sane one all along.
It seems that George has become the Tina Louise of Star Trek.
...Drama Queen?...
Willian Shatner foi a grande estrela de Star Trek,,..e ponto final...adoro
budvido .budvido : Nope.
@@Zwiebelbaguette
I agree that Star Trek wouldn't have worked if it was all about Kirk.
There's nothing like a woman scorned and forsaken, Bill.
Remember Takei's guest appearance in 3rd Rock - whether it was just a 'version' of himself but he came off as a pompous ass. Even if you watch the films there's a smugness to him.
Shatner's comment when Takei came out about whether it really matters, obviously took wind out of the sails.
I would say George Takei is in love with Shatner but cannot have him. He was actually wishing for the Yeoman Rand part.
William Shatner is a national treasure.

8) George and Shatner were planning on settling their feud on Family Feud but Shatner couldn't think of the top 3 answers for "Name something you associate with Star Trek."
9) Shatner suffers from a debilitating case of both Coulrophobia which is a fear of clowns and Spectromania, obsession with mirrors, and if he is off his medication it could spell trouble.
10) George and his partner felt that Shatner would hang around after the reception hoping someone would recognize him.
Takei is on film saying that he invited Shatner!

Funny, another way I heard it was T was pissed bc S was invited but didn't come.
I suuport you Captain James T Kirk :) Live long and prosper
In reality he was in love with Shatner and was rejected, sickness!
I don't think so. Shatner is/was a male primadonna. But that's sort of what a captain is.
Dan Fiebiger Here’s where you’re wrong. There is no “feud”. Takei just keeping on attacking Shatner. And Shatner doesn’t even know Takei.
I freaking Love! WS. Even when he's serious he's funny as hell
Oh man, "He and I don't have many years left on this Earth" is perhaps the most depressing thing I've heard.
They're both attention whores though and neither seems to realize they're the source of their own ridicule regarding this "feud".
he has always wanted you I suspect bill shatner and you ignored him .
Yeah theres a strong sense of him wanting to be noticed by Bill, but also a high possibility of jealousy too. Perhaps a bit of both.
Liberal worms tend to be self absorbed assholes with daddy issues and Mr Sulu is no different.
*maybe mr. takei's been secretly in love with somebody he could never have, so ends up hating him for that?! :D
I suspect you could be on to something there.
Takei contradicts himself.
William is great!!! It is one thing to have one hit TV show. Two hit shows are all most unheard of, but three hit TV shows is a sign of true greatness.
"....Remember...TAKEI...as in TOUPEE..." LOL
I agree with everything you said.
"dont have many years left in this world'....yet he is still going to space to space and doing all sorts of things. Bless him.
If possible that George had a crush on bill you never know
I bumped into him on a flight from New York to Hawaii recently. People imagine he's gone a bit wacko but he says it's "just about keeping myself in work". Very candid, totally at ease with himself and the other passangers. And doesn't have a drink problem, contrary to rumours. The strongest thing he had was a diet soda all trip. Really splendid guy.
Cool
His gripe stuck to him like his liver spots and degenerate lifestyle.
Bill, these were unfair attacks on you, but you handled it very well.
@XMOO7 Yes, the woman interviewing Shatner is one of his daughters. I can't remember which one though. Just a bit of trivia, one of his daughters had a very very small part in Star Trek V.
Maybe George was secretly in love with Bill Shatner and cant admit and holds a grudge for it? o.o just a thought
Note to George Takei-- When you hold a grudge, you rent them space inside your head.
Sounds to me like George has an ego problem.
glad you enjoyed it! thanks.
I agree with Shatner 100%. At the very least Takei clearly has some very serious insecurity issues.
The sheer dynamism of Shatner's robust performance as Captain Kirk is one of the main reasons for the show's success. Takei, on the other hand, was able to take an extended leave to appear in "The Green Berets" with John Wayne and his absence didn't hurt the show at all.
And then he was pissed at Koenig bc his lines had to be given to him.
I think George wanted to insert his proton torpedo into the captain, but was rejected!!
The Caption had his deflector shields on.
Mmm no I think that's reversed, visa ve what Sulu wanted.
(I wasn't there) maybe you were so focused on your own career that is why you didn't notice him. From the interviews I saw that George gave, it seems like he had good relations with the other cast members.. the question you should be asking yourself is: why were you different?
"why were you different?"
Maybe because he being the captain was the center of attention and as such envied by that piece of shit Takei.
george is jealous
Shatner is an A list actor and very professional. Takei played a minor role in Star Trek and is just bitter and jealous.
No, Shatner did not know Takei and didn’t want to go to his wedding. End of story.
Except Sulu is not alone in his sentiment, and Cap is the one acting butthurt.
Jealousy is a form of insanity.
I don't like everything that Takei says and does. Definitely. But given that Takei and Shatner didn't like eachother, i don't understand why Takei would be obligated to invite him to his wedding, a strictly personal affair.
Interesting. One question though - who did the painting in the background. Love it.
*George wanted to be in the Captain's chair or in his lap really bad. Not sure which.* 🤷♂️🤦♂️😂🤣
I think much of the cast was jealous because the episodes revolved around Kirk, Bones and Spock. The other characters played minor roles.
YES ...
Or Star Trek featuring CAPTAIN SULU
(the caps aren't accidental)
George approves. 😂
Funny, George is NOT the only person to say that the ShatMan's ego has been a problem.
"George Takei Statement on William Shatner
"It is unfortunate that Bill was unable to join us for our wedding as he indeed was invited to attend. It is our hope that at this point he joins us in voting NO on Proposition 8, which seeks to eliminate the fundamental right for same-sex couples to marry in California." --George Takei, October 22, 2008 "
I love Bill. I hope he has many many years of health and happiness ahead for him.
im probably SUPER late about this stuff with shatner and takei but what happend? like i remember on the shatner roast takei and him seemed like old friends but was that before or after the drama started?
I run a winery in ventura County.People have come in who know Mr.Shatner and say for the success he has had in life.He is a very down to earth man,and treats those people around him with courtesy.for Mr.Takei,to still be hung up on something that happened 40 years ago!!geez! Thats one way to wreck a new marriage!who wants to listen to all that ancient history on their honeymoon! Let it go george!
Caption Kirk (William), I loved that you brought out that after 40 years someone would have to be sick to hold on to a perceived grudge for so long.
" Kirk and Shatner has this grand Ego of sence of self. He sits there in the centre of the set and reveals [in] It. "
WTF !
How gay LOL !
Hi, Bill! When I hear comments from your former castmates, I'm reminded "Galaxy Quest". Did you enjoy the film, and how well did it spoof the Star Trek experience?
Are you thinking of Galaxy Quest?
Obviously George had a huge man crush on Bill, and it drove him nuts to see Bill doing all these sex scenes and always getting the woman. I think maybe George came out to Shatner and he got "rubbed" the wrong way.
Sulu wanted to send his photon torpedo Kirk's way, but Kirk had his deflector screens up.
takei is a goof.
Bill Shatner! You are awesome. We need more reality in the world, and you are it.
The Shatner needs to extend an olive branch regardless of whatever is between them , and do it publicly. maybe a humble apology and open invitation can heal this. I was an abused child and I made my peace with my parents , so this is nothing compared to what I went through. One has to be the bigger man and rid themselves of this poison that hides in both of them.
respect for finding that forgiveness with what you suffered. A lot of people could learn from this
Takei sigue teniendo el periodo
LOL!! hilarious stuff.......can't get that visual picture out of my brain now !!!
Kirk should just say, "Enough of you, Mr. Sulu! I'm out of here! Straight ahead, Mr. Scott! Warp 7!"
😁
:/ hmmm....
Unrequited love.
That's entirely possible. Like some of the girls that I was mad at in highschool because I didn't have much of a chance with them.
Shatner is so cool. Long may he reign!
God Bless....
That was a very good satire, to the point... had me in stitches.
"I feel nothing but pity for him"
Ouch!
Was this before or after Bill's roast?
The interviews done on the Howard Stern show are VERY telling and candid as the Stern show usually is. Takei fired the first salvo and Shatner actually responded, when he has one a few weeks later and played the tape, VERY casually and just said that it was "mean".
