Muggers and people like that have done interviews while incarcerated about how they chose marks, and one of the most mundane things was if the person looked them in the eyes or face. It’s an instant indicator to them that you are aware of their presence and you will know what they look like when the cops show up. I learned about it, as well as not looking down at your phone all the time and not having earbuds in, during the Conflict Prevention and Avoidance section of my concealed carry class.
