The most craziest and most convenient timing ever man.
I'm literally in the midst of replacing my harmonic balancer and crankshaft seal on my 5.2 V8 ZJ. I've have almost everything I need except the for the balancer installer. I was trying to figure this out, with little to no videos covering this job properly. Thank you for existing, I come straight to you when it comes to my Jeep.
If only you were closer I'd have you as my trusted mechanic for sure
Much love from Philly sir and keep doing what you do

If you do not have an impact, you can use a long enough half inch breaker bar positioned so that it rests on the drivers side frame. Disconnect the ignition coil so the engine doesn't start. Turn the ignition key kicks over the engine and you will break free the crankshaft main bolt on the harmonic balancer. I'm revisiting this channel as I gave away my 5.2 '97 ZJ LTD to my eldest son about a year ago. I just broke free the on on my current 4.0 '87 XJ Pioneer using the same technique that I describe here, but I used an offset wrench with it resting on the top of the power steering pump. Most important thing about using this method is to always make sure you verify the engine rotation compared to the main bolt. Best thing is there's no long loud obnoxious intro's, information is always concise and clear, content is well lit with great visual angles. Thank You. 👍✌

I wish my '95 4.0's balancer was set up the same way, on mine the balancer and pulley are one unit. I was on my way home from school a few weeks ago when mine came apart, causing the belt to slip off. Cost me a new radiator on top of it, because that blew up with it too. No more belt tension ment the water pump couldn't turn anymore. Instant overheat taking the old radiator out with it. Luckily that's the only damage it did. I replaced the balancer and radiator and it's never ran better. And what a difference, so much smoother now. I guess the balancer has been failing for a while before it finally rattled completely apart.

Great work man you should make more how to vids you're good at explaining. Since you shared so much info in the vid I thought I'd return the favor. If you didn't already know, the tab that sticks out on the crank is called a key or keystock and the slot on the balancer is the keyway.

Hopefully you own this jeep until it's junked. The next guy who tries to remove that crank bolt is gonna have a bad day. I like that you gave torque specs and then 1/2" impacted until it didn't turn any longer lol.
Quick tip for anyone who doesn't own a study impact. Take out a sparkplug and stuff paracord in the cylinder near tdc. Once enough rope is in there you can turn the engine back a 1/8 rotation and it will bind against the rope (should be slightly past tdc and then backed up to jam rope). You can then loosen the bolt with a breaker bar. Same step but rotate other direction to install. This method allows you to use a torque wrench to tighten the crank bolt to spec. And bolt should be lubricated with oil.

Do you still have your Jeep? I have the same Jeep and enjoy all your videos. Replacing completely separated balancer no rubber and came off when I removed the pulley. I also have to replace the timing cover. I don’t know but believe the balancer being so bad may of knocked hole in my timing cover where the timing marks are or maybe part of balancer that came apart knocked the hole in it.(actually can see the timing chain through the hole. Cpl questions, do you have video of putting new oil seal in? And do you know how much play if any the timing chain should have?

The balancer in my 4.0 rattled apart a few weeks ago while I was going about 60 mph, pretty much took the radiator out with it too. The part of the pulley that separated slipped forward causing the fan to grind up against it. Think very loud screechy metallic noise while boiling coolant steam sprays everywhere.
