@@travelfoodielove loooooooooolllllllllllll "straight man" is a comedy term describing the "serious" guy in the act that the crazier/goofy one plays off of.
Malevolence is a fact of life. We all have problems, some worse than others. We *all* "sin." Shaming people publicly, regardless of the severity of their infraction will *do no good* Choosing to punish people based on their position in society vs. their actual infraction will *do no good* When Aziz Ansari and James Franco are discussed in the same light as Bill Cosby and Larry Nasser it *does no good* In fact, the comparison desensitizes us to the severity of the latter crimes. Abusers and rapists should be punished severely. Our society has failed in many cases to do that. But if we over-correct and criminalize male sexual initiative it will be...... somewhat destabilizing Thank you, SNL, for using humor to highlight some of the nuances of this issue.
Megan N. James Franco has no moral imperative to publicly admit his mistakes. He has addressed the public allegations, and has bowed his head before the will of the #metoo mob. Maybe their continued ire is misplaced. Why must all social movements be so blind to nuance?
Ink Ognito. Seeing as though you’re defending him, tell me why he has been dodging the allegations specifically. Sure he said acknowledged them and he said he needs to make things right but he has only given little shade to the subject. Why would someone, even if they are innocent, not directly state his side of the story at least?
That reminds me of Creed and Ryan from “The Office”. They treated Creed with leniency even though he did a lot of serious crimes that no one knew of until the end of the series, and is somewhat rumored to be the Scranton Strangler alongside Toby. Meanwhile, everybody treats Ryan super harshly because he most likely embezzled funds from corporate and was mean to his coworkers, which, even though was very wrong, is less of a bad thing.
i think this kinda shows how we often turn a blind eye to some people when we wouldnt let it slide with other people. It's more a thing if the past than it is now, but it still happens. Like with a lot of these hollywood scandals, a lot of people knew about them for years but only did something when the public got wind of it. But sometimes even the public knows of it, and still we turn a blind eye. Like when R kelly married Aaliyah.
OMG, I work with a guy exactly like Charlie. He can say anything to women and they just laugh like crazy. We walked past a conference room one day with five or six women having a meeting. He walks right in and says, "Okay, who ordered the male stripper" They just cackled their asses off.
once again, we are just going to pretend that Bill Cosby is the only man in Hollywood to ever do this? he worked old school mafia controlled Vegas, come on.... America can´t be that naive to think that those big name headliners aren´t the ones who brought "slipping Mickies" to his attention????
@@gen-x_dude I think they’re saying Bill Cosby because a bunch of people defended him for being “a friendly guy.” Obviously he’s not the only one, but Harvey Weinstein wasn’t defended from his allegations for being friendly.
ChaiKawaii maybe so but his "sweetness" and "humor" laced with sexual innuendos and uncomfortable jokes should not be excused nor tolerated just because they're old. Age shouldn't be an automatic pass especially if he's (or she!) is your boss or a grandpa-like deacon at a church or wherever. It's still offensive and unwelcome especially for a young woman- I have a lot of respect for the elderly and I would treat them as if they were my own grandparents but only IF they're deserving of respect. a perv is a perv no matter the age . That's what my mom said - you don't have to put up with offensive comments from anybody - young or old
"You signed out the company van, reported it stolen, and it was found three days later outside of a brothel with your keys still in the ignition and your brother asleep at the...in the front wheel." "What! Clarence was still in there??" Kenan is too sharp.
Whatever comes out of Keenan's mouth can come so entertaining to watch as an actor and an incredible impersonator now and before getting on SNL no matter what the theme of the act can be
Ah, difference of opinion/definition. I'm definitely a fan and find him mostly hilarious. I'd have to evaluate what I consider great impersonators (Kate, Hader, Carvey, Hartman, Murphy, Fallon (musically), Hammond, etc.)
The guy in the suit with power can’t say shit to any degree. But the lower level employee a security guard gets the awe shucks he leaving and people laugh with him. I see what your doing SNL. Now wait for the social media to fucking freak out over honest commentary.
LOL it's so true lol..but there's some sense to it because with higher levels of power, there is more responsibility required because more damage can be done from that level. hence the inequality of treatment
omg hey there I agree. I don't think the point of the sketch is that the person with power should be able to say things like the jolly, low level guy and it being taken lightly, but that the jolly low level person shouldn't be given a pass for harassment just because they are not in a position of power and seem friendly. What we expect of others should be applied equally. However, the guy with power has power over the careers of those below him and should be expected to act very professionally even if that means avoiding seemingly harmless compliments unrelated to work.
No actually you don't see what they are doing, obciously because you think that social media is gonna be freaking out instead of who would freak out if they were more blatant about this. That would be Roy Moore and Trump supporters. It isn't about the two positions in trouble it's simply about the people and how they make exceptions based on bias and having nothing to do with allegations. You know like how the right put Hollywood on blast and went after Franken. OH and tried to get Seder fired for a joke that they didn't get. All this despite voting in a President w/ far worse that hasn't been addressed.
I knew a guy just like this doing security like frfr. All the women brought him lunch and snacks lol. All he did was complement them as they walked by. Some was jus like this skit here.
I had the same thing at a law firm. The guy's name was Ronald and he was the main janitor. We all loved him and he said stuff like this all the time. Sometimes I miss Mr. Ronald! He said some crazy ish but I never had even a second where I thought it was real OR that he would harm me. 🤗🤗🤗
The reason Charlie gets a pass is because 1. He does it in a more charming and entertaining way & 2. More importantly he doesn’t have power over them. Someone who is equal or lower than you in power dynamics hitting on you in a fun way doesn’t carry the same weight or pressure as the CEO doing it. They can easily brush him aside without consequence but with the CEO one feels pressure to give in or accept their advances
Someone young, confident and good-looking like Franco also comes across as way more cocky and entitled when he comments on women than a funny old man who never gets taken seriously.
This was Kenan at his best - with his laughing eyes all the way ;))! What a treasure. This skit was cool, but sometimes, when one is bad, all it needs to work for me is Kenan with his about-to-break smile ;)
Ej Nappe well, it's not the regular double-standard as some may think, it's the misperception of a horrible human being as a gentleman, or in this case, a sweet old man. Woman who throw around these allegations are deceived by the charm of these apparent gentlemen. Those without charm or a social affinity that attracts these women is again, misperceived as a distrusting aberration in the work place when they chance the merest attempt at a "hello" or try to commend someone's appearance to make them feel better. These fraudulent accusers have a field of ashes were their heart should be, because of their accelerated attachment to whom they are attracted to aesthetically, not personally.
waterside This is the brilliant part. When they want to say something about Al Franken, they can't just say it out loud. But they definitely need to say something. So they just put a mask on their point. Like masking the southern/Republican/age-difference reference with an old black dude.
There’s a sub like this in my high school. He’s an old guy who kinda acts like a grandpa to a lot of people and just chills. But he’s still kinda creepy. Like I sat in at a table in English where I was the only guy, the guy subbed and was walking around the room as we worked. He gets to my table, taps me on the shoulder, gestures to all the girls and says “is this your little harem?”. The girls laughed, and when I told the story my friend laughed. I feel like that’s a weird thing to say about a group of high schoolers.
I remember thinking to myself when this sketch first aired "Yo imagine how poorly this will age if allegations were to come out against him". And well.....
It's funny how so many people think this sketch is poorly written. I don't think it's great, but it isn't terrible by any stretch. It definitely reflects dynamics I've witnessed while working as a receptionist. Our office had two older men one black and in his mid to late 50s, one about 20 years older and white. Both got away with sexual misconduct for sure. The black guy was funny and delivered his comments in such a way, that while some of my female coworkers would comment on the inappropriateness of the comment they shrugged it off as just a part of his crazy personality. I think he also had a better idea of who he could say what to. I don't recall anyone wanting to talk to management about him. Granted he also had a lot of seniority even though his position wasn't necessarily above theirs. Overall, people in the office loved him deeply which was apparent when he passed away. The older white guy came off as more of a creeper. He never made his comments where anyone could hear them (unlike the black guy that was pretty loud about it). He had a drooling issue due to brain surgery. He was as sharp as a tack mentally (sidebar: He was also a former politician in PA), but the drooling issue definitely had to make people pity him a bit. More women seemed to be bothered by comments. Though to be fair the comments themselves came off as more inappropriate. There was no humor to what he would say. At least 2 women expressed they didn't want to get him in trouble because he was an old man. But they seemingly entertained the idea of complaining about him. The funny thing about him too is that he wasn't really like that until the other guy passed away. It was like he copped his persona, but forgot about the importance of delivery. If a younger male coworker were to behave as either did, I think reactions would have been totally different. I'm sure that person would have ended up at the least getting reprimanded.
dippster357 Get a brain. One can type "long-winded" sentences in the wee hours of the night and have an active social life. If you had friends you'd know that.
I always say, “I can’t wait till I get old so I can say what I want with no filter.” 😆 This sketch is perfect. I’ve seen plenty of old men and WOMEN, especially, speak like this.
@@wolfshanze5980 No they don’t, stop doing it. I'm glad they did this sketch.
Ink Ognito James Franco just got accused of it so.... Not a good look
Jonathan m Only if he could admit his mistakes in reality..
Malevolence is a fact of life. We all have problems, some worse than others. We *all* "sin." Shaming people publicly, regardless of the severity of their infraction will *do no good*
Choosing to punish people based on their position in society vs. their actual infraction will *do no good*
When Aziz Ansari and James Franco are discussed in the same light as Bill Cosby and Larry Nasser it *does no good* In fact, the comparison desensitizes us to the severity of the latter crimes.
Abusers and rapists should be punished severely. Our society has failed in many cases to do that. But if we over-correct and criminalize male sexual initiative it will be...... somewhat destabilizing
Thank you, SNL, for using humor to highlight some of the nuances of this issue.
It sounds like it's more about the type of person you are than what you actually did.
"That's to get the funk out!" 😂😅
The way he leaned into the shot to say that had me hollering!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
i think this kinda shows how we often turn a blind eye to some people when we wouldnt let it slide with other people.
"Age Ain't Nothin' But a Number" **barf**

So “Charlie” is basically Bill Cosby.
once again, we are just going to pretend that Bill Cosby is the only man in Hollywood to ever do this? he worked old school mafia controlled Vegas, come on.... America can´t be that naive to think that those big name headliners aren´t the ones who brought "slipping Mickies" to his attention????

ChaiKawaii
maybe so but his "sweetness" and "humor" laced with sexual innuendos and uncomfortable jokes should not be excused nor tolerated just because they're old. That's what my mom said - you don't have to put up with offensive comments from anybody - young or old
That’s the whole point
Funny how Keenan is still going on unlike the other cast members.

All this despite voting in a President w/ far worse that hasn't been addressed.
but you go on beliving that it's about poor poor little CEOs going down for saying a compliemnt.
Very honest. This is true to life. And very funny.
Don’t hurt nobody wit dat thang
That “Mm....mmm” kills me every time
I knew a guy just like this doing security like frfr.
The CEO in this scenario isn’t even saying anything wrong
And he's not white.
He isn't the ceo I thought he was cfo
Someone young, confident and good-looking like Franco also comes across as way more cocky and entitled when he comments on women than a funny old man who never gets taken seriously.
It's still a double standard tho
This was Kenan at his best - with his laughing eyes all the way ;))! What a treasure. This skit was cool, but sometimes, when one is bad, all it needs to work for me is Kenan with his about-to-break smile ;)
tralfama dorian Your comment pretty much epitomizes the point of this skit
I was just about cracking up when he first entered the scene. That's just unprofessional.

Holy shit, it's the first time I'm seeing Beck crack up ever at 5:11
I love Kenan Thompson. He’s great in every role he plays.
To those who are lost, the point is that there is a double standard in Washington when it comes to sexual harassment in politics.
Ej Nappe 🙄erm not just Washington. For heavens sake it was even staged in a corporate office for you
You write for SNL??
waterside This is the brilliant part. When they want to say something about Al Franken, they can't just say it out loud. But they definitely need to say something. So they just put a mask on their point. Like masking the southern/Republican/age-difference reference with an old black dude.
*double standard in life
There’s a sub like this in my high school.
3:37 that’s to get the funk out. I’m dead😂😂😂

I remember thinking to myself when this sketch first aired "Yo imagine how poorly this will age if allegations were to come out against him". And well.....
I mean, I think we all knew just looking at him that MeToo was coming for him. He's definitely the type.
For a second, I thought you meant Thompson, and I was like "what?" But then I remembered it was franco
Ray Mabry women do it too. It's about power.
I'm aware that women do it too. However that's not relevant at all to what I was talking about.

This skit was really smart. I hope at least some people got it. There are so many double standards, innocent people are charged and guilty ones go free. Not cool.
GrotrianSeiler if your comments are unwanted yes you are guilty of sexual harrassment. That's how it works. Deal with it.
Then how come when a white girl sexually assaulted a black man, he gets into trouble?
How does someone determine if it's unwanted? Does he have to look in the mirror every day and decide: "Yes, I'm attractive enough to get away with it" or "Nope, not attractive enough."
