Totally agree, and T Legacy is similar. It doesn't sit with everyone because people are fickle when it comes to movies. But I like it when great flicks are underrated and shunned; makes one feel privileged to be part of a niche.
So many critics didn't like this film, but I found it so inspirational in so many ways, the love story, the struggle for survival and the struggle to find one's self, with the music setting the emotional tone to perfection. All these things drown out the plot flaws, and leave you with a sense of loss and wonder.
Now THIS is what makes a great film set, building the machines and sets and going on location, reduce the CGI. Not a lot of directors do it like this these day's and sometimes, it shows, for the worst.
Oblivion was definitely visually stunning. Epic movie. It has issues, but those can be looked past because of its visual beauty. I loved the twists too
Wtf people... this movie is 10/10 compared to all the other junk... Obvilion was amazing.. Storyline 10/10 visuals 10/10, tension 10/10, Mind twisting 10/10, emotional scenes 10/10, ideological 10/10.... Movie is 130minutes.... and its so smooth.... like you watch two movies in 2 hours..... briliant matrix type message to people ;) Wooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww
Exactly, it was one of my best, then i like making off more , this is incredible, they've made some amazing special effect really, what i've liked the most are the tower and the bubble ship, they are ....real O_O in these times where movies are 10 mins acting and 1 year of post prod.....wonderfull job
saw it in the IMAX in Tallahassee. It's true what TC says about it. Beautiful, stunning, scary, moving, great story. I was pleasantly surprised and want to see it again!
Went in with moderate expectations and it blew me away. It was clever, sleek, tightly written, and it doesn't hold your hand at all with deep topics. I loved feeling like I was exploring the movie environment alongside Jack. I highly recommend this movie.
I had to admit that I was one of them that thought "oh god, Tom Cruise again". But the movie really proved its own worth. Now watching the behind the scene, appreciating it more.
One of the best Sci Fi movies I've seen in a long time. Liked the story. Visuals are stunning. Music is great as well. Really enjoyed this behind the scenes look too. Good job.
What they did with this movie with the interactive screen was ahead of their time, and it was elevated and improved in the Mandalorian. It’s almost incredible how a technic used in the 50s and 60s in car scenes backgrounds for example, is slowly coming back improved and is being getting used instead of green screens
coming back to this as it's one of my favorite films. i love the use of a robust projection screen around the main set, fully digitally programmable - looks great on film and is immersive for the actors. this was an earlier version of a similar concept now used on works like star trek: strange new worlds! in fact, their main ship environments, and pretty much every "inside shot" is done with LED panel walls that have an infinite depth because they are implemented on a MASSIVE set; fully programmable, fully immersive, and look even better on film.
The fact that the "Everything wrong with Oblivion" video has more than 3 times as many views as this making-of tells you that more people are looking to criticize and tear down than they are to learn and build. Haters, the lot of them. This movie was tres bon. The tower set with the live footage background was a brilliant touch.
I love this movie because it isn’t depressing like a lot of sci-fi is. The art is fantastic, and the way the new tech all ties in together is probably my favorite part. The drones? Impeccable. From the fearsome design, to the little screeches and growls they make is amazing. Joe managed to create an incredibly believable world, and I would LOVE to see the graphic novel. This is my favorite film of all time!
Omg, I am sooo blaming myself for not seeing this movie on the big screen!!!! Hope I'll be able to forgive myself someday.. :( Visually such a stunning movie... Love it!
Man this director just wow!! Like tron legacy, good soundtrack, stunning special effects, attention to details, it´s just gorgeous, this is just epic, like the movies add that right sense of futuristic, just awesome quality of production, scenario and shoot.
very glad i decided to check the thumbnail! this was a GREAT behind-the-scenes-look at a movie, which i've seen many times already & love. while watching this i realized it had been a very long time since being aware of the history, locations, etc., re: films i've enjoyed! thanks you for sharing this video with us! :o)
I thought it was a great movie. The only problem that I had with it was with the trailers spoiling the twist. They were so concerned with showing us that Morgan Freeman was in it that they gave it all away. It would have been nice to suspect the truth before having it revealed.
I hear you, it was more about the fact that humans were still alive. The way the movie was written it suggested that the scavengers were the remnants of a failed alien invasion. We weren't suppose to learn the truth until Morgan Freeman's character struck the match. Would have been a great reveal that humans were in fact the scavengers.
I went to go see this movie, and it just blew me away. All of the cool designs and technology. Great story line, amazing sets. I love this movie. It is on my list of my Top 5 Favorite Movies as number 2. Loved it, want more. =)
Can't say I know how previous films were made but the Mandalorian show ended up using an LED wrap around screen and the effect is amazing. Really amazing how these ideas and strategies evolved over the last few years to really change the game of filming.
This is just...sweet. As a concept artist this is a creation I would only dream of creating. Stunning visuals, flaweless designs. The actors are perfect, the music fantastic. Masterpiece.
U always hear how crazy is TC, bla bla bla. But is it just me, or he seams like such a nice guy? I mean, maybe he is acting:):) but hand shakes with everybody, respect to the crew, genuine commitment etc.
Don't believe everything you read in the papers or see on TV, their main and only aim to get readers or viewers and will spew any crap to do so. Money and profit first etc. I think Tom is a nice guy, he also pushes himself, does a lot of his own stunts etc.
I love this film and have watched it at least a dozen times over the years. The "Super Bowl" scene brings a funny occasion in my life back to me. When "Jack" describes the "Hail Mary" throw, I remember my first ever game of Rugby Union. We had moved from a football (soccer) playing area to Warwickshire, where the schools only played Rugby. In my first match, I was placed as Fullback to keep me out of trouble - as a football player I hadn't a clue what to do. When the ball suddenly landed in front of me, and half the opposing team charged at me with bloodlust in their eyes, I instinctively picked the ball up and "Hail Mary" drop kicked it about 50 yards down the field. But before I could find time to be proud of myself, my team mates screamed at me to run after the bloody ball ! In Rugby Football, for all those not familiar with the game, the player can only pass the ball backwards, but if he kicks it forward, which is the only forward move allowed, he must be the next man in his team to touch the ball ! Needless to say, I never reached it in time before an opponent got it first, so that didn't make me very popular that day in my team. However, I did go on to be quite good at the game and was later in the school team - but every time Tom Cruise tells that "Hail Mary" story, I have to think of my own Hail Mary kick into the heavens ! 🏈💨 A last question to Americans - who is Jack's bobble head figure in his helicopter type aircraft, the one he calls "Bob" ? I can't recognize the figure and who it represents and I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks in advance. 👲
Enjoyed it. I especially loved the Bubbleship . Also how they shot footage of sky, clouds, and sunsets on top of a volcano then projected it later onto a wrap around screen so not only did it provide an amazing backdrop but even helped light up the whole set! The only neg were the comments from stunt co-ordinator Robert Alonso. Don't know if he knew how much of a suck up he sounded when talking about Cruise. My fav comment was "He can do the stunts better than 99% of stunt people" :0 Bet Mr Alonso is real popular with his stunt colleagues!
The movie caught me off guard as the reviews where mixed. In the end it was visually stunning and well scored. One of the few Tom Cruise movies where he actually got to act without all the bang-bang-shooter crap. Outside the pelican brief very well done for Tom.
This movie is by far one of the best films I have ever scene in years. Tasteful, epic, and quite an adventure. I want a sky tower home just like the one in this movie !
Probably one of the best sci-fi movies of the last years, great special effects and amazing story, way better then many sci-fi movies that rely purely on hollow action and dumb storyline.
Beautiful film! The scenery in Iceland on the mountain and the scenery above the clouds reminds me of a fantastic camping trip I experienced. There is truly an amazing feeling of peace being on top of a mountain while watching the horizon.
This was a great movie. I have not like a lot of movies for the last few years. But this was something different and that was good! This movie made me feel emotion, something I have not felt since high school. I love everything about the movie! Just like Blade Runner were it did not do well. This movie will stand the test of time and it will be re-discovered and be seen as the work of art it really is!
I saw this movie by myself yesterday, and must say, I loved the movie. I love Tom Cruise in Science Fiction movies, parts like those fit him well. The movie really made you think. I hope they make a part 2.
Do hope that Joseph Kosinski would write the story about the love story between Jack and Julia, how the world was destroy in 2017 etc. I am waiting for Joseph's next film of Oblivion.
Beautifully shot movie - loved Daniel Simon's designs. Yeah, it picks up a few things done/seen in other movies but a good story/twist! Go see it - defo one to buy on Blu-ray.
This is one to own. The acting, the story, the visuals, and of course the music. I enjoyed that it left some room for me to piece the elements of the story together on my own...I had to explain what was happening to my family though. :)
Movies just look so much better when they actually go to locations, actually build the aircraft and use things like front screen projection with real footage instead of a blue screen.
Love the movie!!! I'm an avid reader of Arthur C Clarke, and this just made me wanna read more. This movie just puts me in a really cool place, in the same way that Clarke's books do. I hope theres no sequel, and this is a great movie on its own..
Underrated movie with an amazing soundtrack. Loved Oblivion.
Totally agree, and T Legacy is similar. It doesn't sit with everyone because people are fickle when it comes to movies. But I like it when great flicks are underrated and shunned; makes one feel privileged to be part of a niche.
Me, too!
@@nuntana2 absolutely true! better underrated than overrated.
indeed
Bro, that's so true. I love that movie.
Such an underrated movie. The style, emotion, cgi and soundtrack all make the movie what it is
So many critics didn't like this film, but I found it so inspirational in so many ways, the love story, the struggle for survival and the struggle to find one's self, with the music setting the emotional tone to perfection. All these things drown out the plot flaws, and leave you with a sense of loss and wonder.
Critics are flaw hunters, they'll call a movie bad because of tiny nonsenses. Just ignore their crap.
Now THIS is what makes a great film set, building the machines and sets and going on location, reduce the CGI. Not a lot of directors do it like this these day's and sometimes, it shows, for the worst.
Too right.
Just takes the money #helicopters #iceland
This was an effective film :)
Right 👍
Alberto, well said.
Hahah! Yes!
Is it still an effective film?
Tom Cruise should just legally change his name to Jack. He plays so many characters named Jack. 😆
One of these days, someone is gonna get confused and end up calling him Jack in an awkward situation
He was named Jack only in 3 movies not 30 🙄 so no he shouldn't
I don't know Jack.
@@stavrlite397 shit bro take a joke
Remember that we just saw the 49 and 52. Kosinski owe us....many prequel..or sequels.
Fantastic movie. In my opinion its the best Sci-Fi movie to come out in more than a decade. Very underrated film.
I love this movie so much. Seriously there's something really neat about this movie. The sound, the look, the story.
My favorite modern sci-fi!

I so agree Mindaugas. One of the best, and the pacing was so good, not draggy as some "epic" shows can be
D Perete it was a organic alien
Just like me!
XD
This film was a masterpiece absolutely phenomenal
Oblivion will stand out as one of my favorite syfi films. 10/10
saw it in the IMAX in Tallahassee. It's true what TC says about it. Beautiful, stunning, scary, moving, great story. I was pleasantly surprised and want to see it again!

I have literally watched this movie almost 50 times now since I discovered it in 2013. In love with the story, visuals, score and the acting.
I had to admit that I was one of them that thought "oh god, Tom Cruise again". But the movie really proved its own worth. Now watching the behind the scene, appreciating it more.
I like the drone sounds. I think these sounds are the best of all sounds used in sci/fi films. I have these drone sounds in my phone. Like a ringtone.
They're great sounds, really quite unsettling. Gives them a definite character.
exactly. they sound like an electronic battlecry. thats what makes them subconsciously familiar and by that, realistic and by that dreading.
They re like
BEEP RP4RRRRRRRRR
Just like a machine in DeadCore (2014) and Killzone shadow fall
Just race with the Laser Sable!!!
The drones reminds me of a 80s commodore 64 game Paradroid.the style and numbers
I love this movie so much.
Me too
One of the best Sci Fi movies I've seen in a long time. Liked the story. Visuals are stunning. Music is great as well. Really enjoyed this behind the scenes look too. Good job.
This video must deserved more views... SO amazing behind the scenes
Can't believe this was 10 years ago, wow, feels like I watched it yesterday for the first time
Its so SICK how they made the background footage for the sky tower. The art direction and cinematography seems amazing!
What they did with this movie with the interactive screen was ahead of their time, and it was elevated and improved in the Mandalorian.
It’s almost incredible how a technic used in the 50s and 60s in car scenes backgrounds for example, is slowly coming back improved and is being getting used instead of green screens
That's the same I thought, were the screens of this movie as a predecesor to The Volume? And it started all from here? Amazing...
i saw Oblivion yesterday and i gotta admit it, im still in awe for the whole idea of the movie! it's a beautiful art made! :D
Beautiful movie. Love the fact that they projected the backgrounds on the tower set.

greatest soundtrack and beautiful movie. i hope this movie gets recognition and awarded
This explains very well why I love this movie so much. This is a great piece, thanks for the upload.
A Fantastic film, mix of Moon and Independence Day.Great music,Great Landscape,Great production design. One of the BEST science fiction film ever. Thanks
this is an excellent movie!!! the sky tower with the projecting screen, just amazing! I thought it was done in front of the green screen

Good old fashion sci-fi....very well made film...I was so impressed...start to finish...
love this movie, all aspects of it were beautifully done. the music, the visuals. one of my all time favorites

Yeah, it would have been an awesome cameo appearance if they kept it secret that he was in the movie. Kind of like Matt Damon in Interstellar.

The physical DESIGn of all elements, the Bubble it self and ... every details so amasing! My hat to the Designers and all creatif team...!
Super good movie, storyline and soundtrack! The bubble ship dogfight is like throwback to Topgun!
Tom's amazing at everything he does! His movies always have some sublimnal lesson to learn! oblivion is a favorite!
One of the best movies ever made!
It really gives you the real feeling of post apocalyptic.
Unfortunately it is underrated.

It actually was used a lot before CGI, not using LED lights, but projectors.
Also the shot of the half finished Drone coming through the curtains is classic!
It was a great movie with a great SFX! I watched this movie 10 times and want to see it again!
The Sky Tower and the Bubbleship are incredible!
This is just...sweet. As a concept artist this is a creation I would only dream of creating. Stunning visuals, flaweless designs. The actors are perfect, the music fantastic. Masterpiece.
Great movie. Those flying drones were awesome. My CR-V looked so much like them it creeped me out!
This movie is awesome and worth watching. Well Done Tom and Joe!
Great Movie, Great Actor, Great Music, Great Locations, Great Graphic. Ugh! The Movie was just Perfect!!!

A great extended look, thanks for posting!
they should make somehow a 2nd part as well, to come out with a kind of story
This movie was so great yet insanely underrated. The story, the plot, everything that led up to his sacrifice, it was amazing.
Man this gives a lot away! Thank goodness I've seen it!!!!
This movie is by far one of the best films I have ever scene in years. Tasteful, epic, and quite an adventure. I want a sky tower home just like the one in this movie
!
Wow that whole project thing is mindblowing, I never would've guessed.
The projected background was beautiful and a really great idea
Truely an amazing movie and it's so well done unbelieveble
Would have been awesome if the "Bubble ship" could actually fly.
the drone is physically possible it just lack the air intakes to the engine but the movement vectors are a marvel.
Given a proper power source,I'm pretty sure it could.
@Scott Schriber Perhaps extra stability?
@Scott Schriber I'm a year late, but the tail rotor controls the bubble ship's yaw in atmosphere.
@Scott Schriber With only two jet-engines, you would limit your yaw, especially while hovering.
Thanks. Great behind-the-scenes look. Some of it is on the dvd I purchased but not all, so I enjoyed those extra little snippets.
I can't wait to see this its amazing how dedicated an actor Tom Cruise is I trust I won't be disappointed.
the most beautiful sceneries you can see in a film is in this movie
Probably one of the best sci-fi movies of the last years, great special effects and amazing story, way better then many sci-fi movies that rely purely on hollow action and dumb storyline.
Visually amazing. Watching this wants to make me become a filmmaker.
Incredibly beautiful movie, well done!
Beautiful film! The scenery in Iceland on the mountain and the scenery above the clouds reminds me of a fantastic camping trip I experienced. There is truly an amazing feeling of peace being on top of a mountain while watching the horizon.

I watched it a few nights ago, it moves along quite nicely, you never end up being bored at any time.
I was really surprised at how good this film really was, it reminded me of the film moon with Sam Rockwell
One of the best soundtracks ever. :) Good job M83
Amazing movie!!! Saw it two days ago and still contemplate the story line! Bravo to producers, sound, actors ect
I never watch "the making of" videos but this movie was that good that it brought me here.

one of my favorite films ever.... tower 49 is a beautiful set.
I love this film and the amount of work that went into is quite astonishing. It really shows.

LOVED the movie. Unexpected. Will probably buy the DVD. talent like this should be encouraged. Fresh.
This video gives me a better view of the movie! Thanks!
I don't *like* videos often but this ones gonna have to get one. After watching this, it reminded me how much I missed working on set.
