The way your saying "it's no big deal" at the end made me immediately think my neighbors must think as I'm on year two with a mail box that sloped sideways. "Fix yer shit Walt!! It's no big deal! Would take you 45 minutes tops you lazy bastard!" lmfao Next paycheck I swear lol
My post office wouldn't deliver because my mailbox wasn't "straight enough". They said they weren't going to drop it off at my door and I told them, that's what the mailbox is for. Apparently I'm the asshole.
@@andypostema4269 Haha same, post office delivered my mail fine for 2 years then one day got a new mailman and suddenly my mailbox is unsafe, hence why I'm here looking at this. Easier for me to do it than deal with my property manager.
Post Office here told me that 42 inches from the bottom of the mail box to the ground is their policy, and as close to the road as possible without damaging any curbing or blacktop. Also just FYI on the video, any time you put a post in the ground and you are going to use concrete then just add a bit of gravel under the post first (shovel full or 2) to assist with drainage. Not having drainage is what causes them to rot. Actualy i was told the best thing to use is a packing sand and no concrete at all, that is what they use for fence posts on This Old House. They put some gravel down and then the post, and then pack the special sand all around it and its as good as concrete but no rot and easy replacement down the road.
Dave L, great suggestion! I set railroad ties into the ground for a fence without concrete. I dug a hole about 2 1/2 ft. deep and enough to leave about 4 inches all around the tie. Then poured 3/4 inch gravel down into the hole while moving the tie side to side. When done, you have a gravel packed tie that won't move. I stretched my barbed wire with a come along around the corner posts then stapled it. There was only slight sagging of the wire after over 20 years.
But dude, speaking as a rural carrier, don't ever buy that mailbox. Get a plastic one (eventually the door on a metal one will become difficult to close), and oversized. With e-commerce, you want at least a modest size box to fit in there. People who don't have a porch or other covering will have a box sit on their front porch or driveway and possibly get rained on later in the day before you get home (the PO does not supply bags for the carriers).
GET A PLASTIC ONE, MADE IN THE U.S.A IT HOLD 35% MORE MAIL/PACKAGES. I GOT SO TIRED OF REPAIRING THE DOOR ON THE METAL ONE, I WENT WITH PLASTIC THIS TIME.
I have mounted mailboxes,Birdhouses, and afew other fairly liteweight items using no concrete, or any other stuff. When I install a 4x4 wooden post I dig a hole about 2-2/12 ft deep pack it with dirt and rocks till full and they hold up against everything except being hit by cars and farm equipment.
You used the level wrong... Should use it vertically to make sure it is square and plumb.. You then secure the bracing at the post down to a stake to hold it once square and plumb.... Your braces may have helped keep it square but not both square and plumb.. It is also advised to make the hole 3 times the diameter of the post to ensure enough of a concrete base.
Not mixing your concrete with water before poring it in is a bad idea. It'll be brittle and won't last as long. No matter how long you let it soak, it'll never be 1/10 as good as mixed. Using dry is bearly better than just using plain dirt.
I use Sika Fence Post mix. Even though it is 3 times as expensive as concrete it drys in 3 minutes and you don't have to go back the next day to mount the mailbox.
Hi I have a question I want to install a mailbox but I'm scared my landlord might take it out of the ground but the question is does a landlord even have the right to take down someone's mailbox or is it illegal if it's illegal can I sue my landlord for taking down my mailbox
Why spend all that time and money and put a tiny little mailbox on the post ...get a real Gibraltar XLarge box that holds Amazon packages...times have changed folks
I don't know if it's illegal but it sure is pointless. Why would you want the wrong address on your box? Sounds like you're trying to steal another addresses mail or something.
If you live area has home owner association rules you have to go by those standards. Here we all have to use ceder wood. You can get fined if not done right. Yes ceder wood can last 12 years til its rotts out.
@@SomewhataMystery Understood. I actually live in a HOA, can't say I have those rules. We are able to have any material mailbox. Plastic and stone/brick last much longer.
I get what you mean with everything and thank you so much for your help but could you help me understand when you say I need to have clearance from when I open the mailbox, to the bottom. Is that so I can measure what kind of screws I need?
How come none of these videos show you how to mount the actual fucking mailbox? I cant find that anywhere on youtube. You basically showed me how to put a stick in the ground. Thanks alot.
Tommy Hitman Yes the previous post was concreted. The post had rotted out at the base. I did not dig out the previous post concrete base. I just offset my new hole away from the original hole.
The portion of the post that goes in the ground should be around 24". He put 20" in the ground because that was what was left him. Those mailbox posts are manufactured at 80".
So easy, even a female can do it!!!! 📫 Step 1 - Find this video Step 2 - Forward this video to bae ... tell said bae that he's sleeping on couch until mailbox is installed Step 3 - Profit!
Installed a new post for my grandma, used this video for help. She bought me dinner afterwards for how good it looked, appreciate the free dinner 😂
Does your grandma usually charge you for food?
@@mikhail6518 do you normally charge your grandma for mailbox installations?

How about showing us how you did the screws to hold the mailbox>?
That's what I came for.
USPS requires the mailbox bottom to be at the height 41-45 inches from the ground...
USPS can go pound some quikrete!
That height is from the road, not the ground. His 37 inches to the ground plus the height of the curb is perfect.

Height called for 41-45 inches, so i could only dig 18 inches to meet height for post i bought, hopefully it holds 😢

I think last one I did I stuck it in the ground with no concrete and called it a day

Vertigo you just don’t want the bottom of the door hitting the post when it’s swung open or it won’t open all the way or could bend the door.

How did you mount the mailbox to the wood? Did you have to buy a mounting plate?
I used the same mounting plate from the original installation.
There is no need to add water in the hole, it will still set up and be stronger.
Ok, do.you pour the Quickcrete in dry and pour water on top? What's the best way to install the actual box with what specs?
Didn't show the box being attached to the bottom beam. The only reason I clicked on this!
How did you mount the mailbox?? Does it come apart?
You screw it to the side of your mounting beam, the mailbox has pre drilled holes on sides

Cedar post from one of the major hardware stores $30-40.
