- I've been wanting to dissect this scene for a long time. Actually, not that complicated. All they are saying is that Oveur/top, Dunn/middle, and Unger/bottom were the chain of command. Simon : Gentlemen, I'd like you to meet your captain, Captain Oveur.
Capt. Oveur : Gentlemen, welcome aboard.
Simon : Captain, your navigator, Mr. Unger, and your first officer, Mr. Dunn.
Capt. Oveur : Unger.
Unger : Oveur.
Dunn : Oveur.
Capt. Oveur : Dunn. Gentlemen, let's get to work.
Simon : Unger, didn't you serve under Oveur in the Air Force?
Unger : Not directly. Technically, Dunn was under Oveur and I was under Dunn.
Dunn : Yep.
Simon : So, Dunn, you were under Oveur and over Unger.
Unger : Yep.
Capt. Oveur : That's right. Dunn was over Unger and I was over Dunn.
Unger : So, you see, both Dunn and I were under Oveur, even though I was under Dunn.
Capt. Oveur : Dunn was over Unger, and I was over Dunn.
Their conversation is simple and logical but still almost impossible to follow without reading it as text. That's why this scene is so brilliant. 😄
Thank you for the comment. So true. You may also get a kick out of this one. The names have been changed to protect the innocent.🙂ua-cam.com/video/jNBT8KE8xj8/v-deo.html
I just love that smile Oveur gives at the end. He's just so glad he finally got it right.
Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?
The order was: 1 - Oveur, 2 - Dunn, 3 - Unger. And it's consistent throughout the whole conversation.
Peter Graves facial expressions are simply amazing! Such a serious actor but with a master understanding of dry/wry humor & comedic timing.
I got tears in my eyes from laughing
Old lol still laughing
