I traded drinking for weed and it’s been great. Although drinking is a blast, most humans tend to do regrettable things when drunk (lash out, cheat, crimes). It also has a massive impact on your BMI and can make you feel sluggish more often. Weed is absolutely the way to go… however beware it can be addicting as well. While it’s a net positive swap the trade off is you’re ingesting smoke in your lungs. You can totally get things done when high but it can have a delayed suppression of natural excitement. If you have the will, avoid substance use completely.

I like the Pixies, seen them live a couple of times. Bossanova and Trompe le Monde are good albums as well, bit different from those you mentioned.

i've been going really hard on the topic of coordinating emotional autonomies recently, and you're welcome to join (in your own unique way, obviously). 😊
so far i've found historical and emotional perspective in the writings of george sand, edith wharton, and viriginia woolf, who i feel were looking for satisfaction and sustenance in a sublime (but extremely imaginary for their times) venn diagram overlapping of both joyful social connections and nuanced, autonomous navigation as an individual.
more analytically, i've been reading about neurophysiology and our modern understandings of how brains work, which has been very grounding and helpful, especially regarding transistioning bewteen states adapted for short term functioning and states adapted for long term functioning.
as a result, i've also been working on disentangling myself from philosophy (the entire concept) because to me it very obviously subverts emotional autonomy, blantantly avoids basic realities of what a brain is (even as it presents itself as the pinnacle of thought), and is so clearly a tool of conquest and short sighted emotional relief-especially when compared to an adaptive concept like "emergent models of understanding" which is just so much more useable.
if nothing there alights interest, however, i hear the topic of trains is frequently found thrilling? 🤔

Looking for satisfaction and sustenance through joyful social connections and nuanced, autonomous navigation as an individual sounds about right. Without realizing it, I think I’ve come to a similar conclusion about philosophy.
I think that’s how I feel about religion too lol, which is why I am indifferent to it. I actually do enjoy Nietzsche’s stance on religion, which is that it has never made sense to him, and that it’s a belief that subverts what is special about humanity.
      Consider my interest alighted 🤓

Out of interest, what is it specifically you hate about living in the US? I've always liked the idea of moving there one day, but I often hear americans talking about not liking it

I live in a suburb in the midwest that I moved back to after graduating college BTW. My specific situation greatly informs my opinion. My problem is that there is no beauty, and there are only streets with no sidewalks. There’s literally nowhere to go unless it’s a store, that’s why I walk around my neighborhood so often. I need to see people and life and different things when I step outside my door. I could see myself being happy living in a different, and much larger city, but I wouldn’t want to stay in the US forever. Mainly because everything is expensive and nearly everything is paid out of pocket. If I broke my arm I’d rather stay home than go to the hospital… I feel like that says a lot.

you should visit Tdot (toronto): cannabis stores (of every variety, like a library of weed) on every block...and lots colombian students (my students): fyi: for work, you should work for an ESL and either teach or be a LatinAmerican/Colombian rep--Colombia is a huge growing market for international education...our library system is better.....i say that as an american expat...happy sesh. bb

I didn’t know they had cannabis stores in Toronto! That’s great advice. I’m currently working on becoming an expat and moving to Amsterdam but if that fails, it’s great to know there’s a place for Colombians who love libraries in Canada 💪
