About five years ago I informed the BBC that I no longer need a Tv licence and there reply was ok we will contact you in two years to see if you have changed your status,they have done twice since and I have given them the same reply,no one has ever knocked at my door to ask about a license but if they did I would politely inform them that my situation hasn’t changed and bid them good day,sorted. Thanks for videos.
One thing I really have trouble understanding is how the BBC can demand payment for watching any live TV (even if it's not a BBC channel). How do they get away with demanding payment for watching live TV that I already pay a subscription for with Virgin or Sky? To me that's like doing my shopping at Asda, then Tesco come knocking on my door demanding that I must also pay them for the groceries I bought at Asda. Something seems incredibly underhanded (bordering on criminal extortion) with the way the BBC operates.
Despott... What you need to do is to become well informed of your rights; when some TV goon shows up at your door and says "you need a licence to watch any live TV ", then he is trying to pull a fast one by lying to you. Take no notice of the goon's threat talk, he cannot do anything, because you don't need a licence for Sky live TV and he already knows that himself.
@@redblade43 ofc you do you need a licence in the UK to watch any live TV channels regardless of who owns them not just the BBC this is because like how our phones line work with BT all of our TV broadcast are actually done by the BBC other channels piggyback of them.
@@LawfullSpook Completely wrong, the BBC is carried by Sky on the Sky platform, by Virgin on the Virgin platform, and by 3rd party carriers for Freeview (the BBC does not own Freeview, they just have some services on it). Also, for phones/internet, Sky own some of their own exchanges, and do not rely on BT lines, the same with Virgin.
@@wildwalkeruk digital television broadcasting and the infrastructure within the UK are ran by a company called Arquiva who work closely with the BBC. It was Arquiva and the BBC who switched the UK's television signals over from analogue to digital regardless of who transmits the data, sky, virgin etc they all broadcast through Arquiva in the UK Arquiva and the BBC are also the largest share holders in the free digital broadcast system (Freeview/Freesat) along with itv and Chanel 4 so while they don't solely own the infrastructure the BBC are in Arquiva pockets
@@LawfullSpook I know, I do work with Arqiva (no 'u') Sky do NOT transmit via Arqiva, Sky use their own satellite transponders, and are nothing to do with Arqiva.
I'm all rather new to this- finding I didn't want to watch live TV ; and have found John's info stuff on here a godsend! Many thanks John for those like myself who were worried at first about how to `not watch` legally. Thank you John.
I don't tend to watch normal tv, I've got Netflix and Amazon prime, got more dvds than you can shake a stick at, and the there's UA-cam. BBC will die out soon hopefully
It won't because it is regarded as public service broadcasting by the government, and they would fund it out of general taxation even if people stopped buying a TV licence. They would also increase taxation to make up for the loss of revenue from the TV licence.
Yep, cancelled mine 18 months ago. TV licence man came round last week, he was nice as pie, asked a couple of questions and was gone. Did not want to come in and look at my 48" Samsung that I told him I had. Just told him I only watch non BBC on demand and that was it.
Thanks for your help. I remembered watching your first video and my tv licence was due for renewal today. I am now pleased to report I am licence feee. Thanks again!
We don't pay for one either, our house doesn't have an outdoor aerial, my wife watches Her Tv upstairs with an indoor aerial which works fine. We told the Tv license that we don't have an outdoor Aerial so they came out said okay, if you get an aerial fitted contact us. And my wife watches BBC, ITV, Etc, with her indoor Aerial for like three years now, and nothing has ever come of it.
Funny I'm the others way round kinda, I don't watch any live TV or BBC, but I still pay the fee, because I think it's a good tool for the world, I guess it's a donation 🤣
Ross M that just makes you incredibly thick on all levels. If you think lies, hate and propaganda are good for the world, you’re clearly brain damaged.
@@stubones i get that the BBC is not quite the open un bias platform it reports itself to be, and I also agree that the standard of content they have been producing over the last 10 year or so has really dropped. But don't you think things like radio 5 and the world service are still valuable to the world? I'm not expecting you to pay for it. And it is a lot of money, but don't you think there is still some value there?
Good for you! Encourage others who are in the same boat as you to do the same thing, that is if they still have a TV licence, but want to find ways to stop paying it.

Just to clarify John. Are you allowed to watch all of the +1 channels? ie itv+1, channel4+1, dave ja vi ect. I only ask because you can get them through the tv ariel but they are mot live broadcasts, they are akin to catch-up tv. Thanks for the info.
Same here, haven't had a TV license for quite a few years now. I suddenly realised I wasn't watching any live broadcasts any more. I was just watching on demand, youtube, etc.... As the only real restriction for me was not to use IPlayer I decided to cancel the TV License and save the £147 per year.. Losing IPlayer is no real loss.
iPlayer is no loss you are correct. Respect for being the more intelligent set too. Detectorists was on iPlayer so I didn't watch it, but it was on Netflix soon after anyway. If it's good enought it will get coverage.
also joanna any decent programmes on bbc iplayer, such as luther or line of duty finish up on netflix eventually, so you can get a free trial with netflix and watch them on there.
My TV Licence expires at the end of this month March 2018. I will be cancelling it, as i will not be paying for something i dont use or want. I only consume media through a computer, i dont actually have a traditional TV, i have a laptop downstairs i just watch UA-cam and Netflix on and that's it. I have a laptop upstairs connected to a larger monitor which i use to just watch Netflix upstairs, and that is it. I dont consume any live TV, and definitely nothing the BBC puts out. The whole TV Licence thing is so out-dated, i cant believe they still get away with it in 2018.

alan whitham Really? I would assume they have to prove you’re actually breaking the law by your actions. I doubt if ‘having the capability of breaking the law’ would stand up in court. I own a car and could, arguably, have the capability of breaking every law surrounding safe driving when I am travelling - but I don’t! I can get online and, therefore, I have the potential to carry out many illegal activities via the Internet - but I don’t! I believe it would be the same with this. I doubt if you can prosecute somebody who has the ‘capability’ of doing something illegal. There would surely need to be actual evidence that the law had been broken. I may simply have my television/computer to watch DVDs or on-demand services, for example - a licence is not needed for these.

So to watch live sport on now tv is the subscription you are paying for thus paying sky for their service and not the BBC, as they provide nothing to it. The flip side with netflix having bought rights to air 'the office' for the viewer who'd pay for their service and completely cutting out the BBC. So really the BBC have no argument with the streaming sites as they have their own in BBC iplayer.
Can't believe the UK still has a tv license. General taxation should more than cover the cost of producing content for BBC. Less agro for everyone too.
@asimsparks It's true most countries don't have a TV licence, but they still dip their fingers into the pockets of the general public to fund state broadcasters one way or another, either through the tax system or added onto a household bill as a levy. I think the info can be found on Wikipedia.
Jonathon respect to you for letting people know what to expect. couldn't imagine moving to the UK and not knowing this. I'm sure it could cause some problems.
Marian Standen It’s only a debt if you’re not following the rules. If you have no licence, but are not watching any live TV or any on-demand via BBC iPlayer, you owe them nothing. So, yes, you tell them to leave. A person does not have to prove his/her innocence.

You forgot to mention that we can also watch Blu Rays, DVDs, and digital copies of films and television shows. I know it sounds insane to even have to mention it, but believe me, some people are worried you can't even watch those on a TV without a licence. Some people think that simply owning a TV (even if it's up in the loft) requires a licence.
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH ChilliJon. I may have just saved £150.50 for every year I have left to live. The link you gave took seconds to complete and was very easy. Massive respect to you.
You can just go to cancel your now tv subscription and it'll offer you a discount. Also, but an "air mouse" to control it dude, far easier than the remote you're currently using!
While this is an obviously good step, it's still disgusting that they're monopolising on "live" broadcasts. What right do they have to say you can't watch live broadcasts from their direct competitors?
Regarding detector vans as far as I'm concerned there has never ever in the history of the BBC been any, their was only one case taken to court regarding a detector van and the case was thrown out for lack of evidence. Nice video though.
Anyone who's unsure on if they're allowed to watch live streams on UA-cam, Twitch etc. without a TV licence, read the reply I got from TV licensing regarding this query after numerous email exchanges: "09/03/2018 Dear Mr ******** Thank you for your reply. If you're watching a live television broadcast through UA-cam, for instance a broadcast from Channel 4, at the same time it is being broadcast on TV, then a TV Licence will be required. This is the same for any website where a live TV broadcast is being watched and the BBC iPlayer. However, if you're watching a live UA-cam channel that is only being broadcast on UA-cam, then a licence won't be required. ..." So it seems if you don't have a TV licence, normal internet live streams are still allowed, so you can watch your favourite streamers on Twitch, UA-cam etc. Just don't watch any live broadcasts that are also airing on traditional TV channels...through ANY website. E.g. don't watch Sky news live on the UA-cam Sky News channel. ~~~ (Just to clarify: You can watch PRE-RECORDED videos of Channel 4, Sky etc. through online streaming services, just not LIVE videos. (However, BBC iPlayer doesn't follow this pattern: You can't watch ANY CONTENT AT ALL through BBC iPlayer - neither live nor pre-recorded.))
One thing that's always pissed me off is if you pay for a tv subscription, in my case it's Virgin, why should we have to pay a licence fee when we pay for tv service already! I think this needs to be rectified, as that really takes the piss. There shouldn't be a poksi licence anyway, it's ridiculous!
I've not watched BBC or live TV for over 3 years now and don't miss it one bit... There is so much more you can watch instead of the governments propaganda channel ☺
It's not a government propaganda right now. They are forcing g there own socialist and liberalized agenda. And it's not what the majority have voted for 3 times now in the last 4 years. They do however provide a government tax. We pay for it rather than the government themselves. Theres an easy way. Bin your licence. I have. Dont miss it one iota.
"If you watch it on BBC iPlayer..." You can't find it on BBC iPlayer. They sold off all the shows they have that are any good, butchered the ones they kept and now wonder why nobody wants to hang around to watch the crap they're left with.
Note to those who watch iPlayer. A local had a letter from TVL saying that they "noticed" him watching iPlayer, but there was no record of a licence at his address. It looks like they are doing what they said they would not do, and that is check the IP addresses of users of the player.
Most likely peeping through the window. It is not possible for the BBC to SPY on you. It is illegal and technically impossible. They will peep through your curtains though. They might even enter a private back garden. I have experienced that. IP addresses work on multiple layers and the first layer might be shared amoungst 1000 people. Only ISPs have any record of the IP address indexing and logs. BBC being private will NEVER have instant access to such data. NEVER. Not even Mi5 have the capabilities that BBC always claim to have. The TV licensing detector vans of the 80s were complete bullshit too. No technology was available to do such a thing. BBC = MAKE MONEY FROM LYING. peace
theyd get a shock since i have a german shepard and shed lawfully rip him to bits since i would not know hes in my back yard so hes tresspassing the persons own fault plus we do have beware of dog and enter at own risk on gates
I think when the BBC started making you log on to view iPlayer it was fairly obvious what that was really about. We find between youtube ,amazon and netflix we are not missing normal tv at all.
15 years in my flat i get letters every fortnight and big ones every 2 months .must have 600 now we know your not licenced so what when it gats to a 1000 then i am going to send them return to sender .
A TV licence to watch live broadcasts from any source... So if I want to watch a sports event such as football that is broadcast live on Eurosport then I have to pay for a licence. Well firstly I don't. I never watch live TV. But that aside, I take issue with this rule. Rules must be based on righteous reasoning yes? If not then anyone could make up some rule to extort money. Rules that are made by criminals do not need to be followed, yes? Now we know the licence fee is given to the BBC but the BBC do not have the rights to broadcast football, or F1 or many of the material broadcast by other channels. So in fact I cannot watch their channel even if I wanted to. But not only do they not have the rights to broadcast that material, they did not produce it either. And when it is delivered over the internet they do not play any part in the distribution - said 'broadcasting'. So they play no part from start to finish. Yet they can receive money as a result of it??? They are trying to sell something they do not own. And in our society we have private property. You cannot sell something you do not own. Maybe I will make a rule that says you have to buy a licence from me to drink a cup of coffee or read a book. I don't make or distribute either but hey this is the land where the BBC can charge money for something they have no involvement in and in the case of sports events - don't even have the rights to broadcast it anyway.
Great video mate you’ve timed it right on the head so went out for Amazon fire box’ And also download Netflix which is another online streaming service like the Genteman said you only need a TV licence if you watch live TV or if not on BBC iPlayer.
New sub, You do make sense, as it saves all the scary crap at the door with the BBC licensing people, I never watch BBC, I think it must be 8 years since I switched the BBC on. My wife watches The Chase and Tipping Point then the tv is off for another 22 hours, as I do not watch it at all, unfortunately, she is very law-abiding and pays up every month. I prefer to watch u-tube.
I do not know the way the them detector vans work, but, due to my personal experience it is very easy to here what is going on in your home without entering it or having any devices inside. Just need a clear view of your window. Do they have a right gear, or not, I do not know
a lot of people still beleive that you need a licence just by owning a tv, which is totaly false. by the way, you also do not need a licence if you use the tv with console gaming or using it to watch dvd's via bluray player.
I've also been told that you need a licence if you have any device that can be used to stream live TV! This is rubbish isn't it? as they would be charging everyone with a phone, tablet and TV etc.
1st they said you must have a TV licence if you watch our programmes then years later they saw people were watching those by old recording or players like dvd, So the law got changed so Now if you buy a TV or DVD player you must have a TV licence just for owning one of these media units? So the BBC get you anyway they can, the Government back up this by re doing the TV licencing laws each time to help fund the BBC so the Government don't have to pay the BBC more than they do now? So it seems no matter how we try the BBC ge around it by geing the law changed to suit it?
Excellent stuff, keep in touch, I'd be interested to know if they visit. Remember if they do, as soon as they introduce themselves just say no thanks and close the door
once you go to cancel now tv it gives u an option to DEFINETLY cancel it ..you say yes and they offer you a deal 3.99 a month instead of 9.99 and thats the entertainment aswell its cheaper..they give u that for 3 month x
I took your advice and cancelled my BBC TV licence legally. I have Netflix and tend to watch shit loads of UA-cam. out of forced habit I missed turning the TV on and having it in the background but now I don't miss it in the slightest
thanks...i stopped paying 3 weeks ago online received acknowledgement email...nothing else so far.....like you i think its a rip off and this time when fee went up i actually thought about how much i had watched on beeb. decided that the 6 or maybe 10 programmes i saw were defintely not worth 150 quid. i can live without bbc as am busy. got netflix and utube thats enough with the odd catchup.....i think its better to do it properly, legally and not fund the bbc bosses anymore
A freind of mine has contacted Channel 4 and they said you don't need a licence to watch their channel, even live as they have nothing to do with bbc or licence fee
I am sending a letter to tv licensing, informing them if they send any correspondence via visits, letter or email, that they will be commong a crime, under the harreasment act.
I started with a Now TV box (which is a Roku 2) and found it to restrictive, hence the reason why it's so cheap. So upgraded to a Roku 3 and never looked back.
I own a Roberts Stream 93i internet radio. Honest, with the amount of internet radio stations plus on demand channels available online, the BBC has become a tiny minnow. I haven't listened to, or watched anything to do with the BBC in over seven years. Are you aware of how much BBC content there is on Netflix? Netflix gives me all the entertainment I need but is half the price of the licence. The BBC just doesn't get it!
Not on the bbc channels But on the bbc foreign channels there are commercials. And they also have a stake in UKTV, which is Dave, gold etc and they are commercial I don’t need bbc channels so I don’t pay.
Only if it's a live broadcast or you are using BBC iplayer. Anything else is perfectly legal. I watch a lot of netflix on my phone and tablet on the train, its fine
The problem is, you can't make your device incapable of streaming the BBC channels. Its entirely up to you on a daily basis not to inadvertently or accidentally flick over to a channel you shouldn't be watching. One wrong slip by your thumb and, oops, here come the goons! They've always said in the past that if your TV is *capable* of picking up live TV, then you must have a license. Well, any device connected to the internet is also capable, so I don't understand the difference. If you allow the goons into your home and they discover your TV is capable of picking up live TV, then you're in trouble. You have to physically render your TV incapable, usually by removing cables and wall sockets, etc, so that you can prove it. But now you're saying rather than having to prove it, its all based on trust?
Yes it's all based on trust. But if you are not watching live tv then there would be no need to have an antenna cable or sky box connected to your tv anyway would there. I have many TV boxes connected to mine, some can indeed receive live broadcast, but I don't use that. See this video for more... ua-cam.com/video/i9cEdbS99Go/v-deo.html
Nope, had one visit in 5 years and just a reminder letter every two years asking if I need a licence yet. Did a whole video about it, you can find it here ua-cam.com/video/VMb-fd_9gpY/v-deo.html
I've had no TV licence for 45 years - about 3 visits from Goons in all that time! Last one, was around 2004. Hate the biased BBC, it is a disgrace to the broadcasting world & oozes "Fake news" Case rested....
David, You are pressuming Bob needs a TV licence, why do you presume that? Did you know the goons can visit regardless of your situation just because the address has no tv licence, same as the harrassing threat letters can be sent regardless of your situation, it is part of the business model to send harrassing letters and goons.
I'v been exempting myself for the last 4 years, got a letter last month giving me a specific day someone from licencing would visit... no one turned up.
Hi there like the video's was just wondering do you have to pay for a tv licence if I have a phone because couldn't they just say I watch BBC though that ?
It's a good question, but you don't have to pay the fee if you have a telly or a laptop, and they are also capable of accessing the BBC too. Pretty much anything is these days. Iplayer is even built in to my tv and I can't remove it! But no, you dont need a licence if you dont access the bbc. If you open the iplayer app you will need to sign in and tell them you have a licence before you can watch it. So if you dont have a licence dont access it and you are perfectly legal.
@@ChilliJonCarne Yes, but, you don't need to give your name to the BBC, make one up, just click on the button that says you have a licence already, they won't know, you've given them a made up name and email how can they check anything, they're false, they don't know me from Donald Duck, I can give any email address from any free email hosting site, I can set up 20 different accounts with the BBC all with individual email addresses, how will they ever know which is legit and which aren't?? I could be living in France, or, Belgium, don't forget the BBC airwaves go across the English Channel, do you think Continental Europeans pay a BBC licence fee, don't be bloody silly. Oh, and also don't forget you can watch the iPlayer from anywhere in the World. To stream BBC iPlayer in Australia, you only need to follow these easy steps: Purchase a VPN with servers in the UK. ... Download the VPN and install it on your device. Select a UK server from the VPN's list of available servers and connect. Go to BBC iPlayer and pick a show to watch.
With Now TV, if you've had a pass for a while and then decide to cancel it, they often offer a reduced rate for a few months to tempt you to stay, so that's always worth a try. (Also works if you're subscribed to Audible, Amazon's audiobook wing)

I'm not brilliant with it, it's more the mrs that uses it, but when I've flicked through movies if you're not careful you can end up watching a live one from my experience.
Angry And Drunk In Essex I was told to have the amazon fire stick which doesn't have the live tv option as long the apps that can receive live tv are not downloaded. Now tv is a grey area as it does have the live tv option within the menu option.
Just don't pay it... Wake up!! It's an Act not a Law.. Without a contr'act' they have as much authority over you as a double glazing salesman... Stop listening to this mug and just stop paying and watch what you like
Thank you. Recently I realised I hadn’t watched any live TV or even switched my free view box on for abt a year - and I have a 5yr old! And for a lot longer than this I’ve despised the BBC’s prime time and TV news programming. Top Gear and Chris Evans was the last straw. I think BBC radio is great.
Great video, I therefore assume it is legal to watch the F1 highlights on the C4 website without a tv license or is that considered a live showing of highlights?
I have a new version of this video, you can see it here - ua-cam.com/video/MC6GOIl8Clg/v-deo.html
Brilliant video cancelling my tv licence now after watching this. 👍👍👍👍👍
Anthony Bond Always one...
If the BBC are so confident that people love their broadcasts and would happily pay for a TV licence, why don’t they scramble their service! Lets see how many people would pay for it.
It’s nothing but a government tax.!
Gary lineker on over 3000 per hour he is a very good reason not to pay the bbc
A very valid and poignant point you make about what they should do if they are so confident 👍
About five years ago I informed the BBC that I no longer need a Tv licence and there reply was ok we will contact you in two years to see if
you have changed your status,they have done twice since and I have given them the same reply,no one has ever knocked at my door to
ask about a license but if they did I would politely inform them that my situation hasn’t changed and bid them good day,sorted.
Cons,Labour and Libs would keep them afloat. Dont think Brexit Party would tho.
@Spells Do you not miss Eastenders.
Will be scrapped?
You need a licence to watch streaming services such as UA-cam or Amazon prime.

Yep, cancelled mine 18 months ago. TV licence man came round last week, he was nice as pie, asked a couple of questions and was gone. Did not want to come in and look at my 48" Samsung that I told him I had. Just told him I only watch non BBC on demand and that was it.
You have a talent as a presenter. and come across as a nice chap, without the ego. clearly explained and made simple. Thank you for this. I subed.
Thank your for the nice comment
Thanks for your help. I remembered watching your first video and my tv licence was due for renewal today. I am now pleased to report I am licence feee. Thanks again!
Congrats. Keep me updated if you get any letters or anything
Just cancelled my tv license, cheers dude!
Not about the money just hated BBC so much that’s why I cancelled my TV license.

What a clear, insightful eye opener of a video this is. Right, I'm cancelling my Sky subscription. And I've now subbed.
Very nicely done. So clear, accurate and well presented.
Thank you
My TV Licence expires at the end of this month March 2018.
A computer can receive live tv , they'll stitch you up just for having the capability to watch live tv whether you use it or not .

Really?
I don't even open their letters. They go in the shredder.

It's more common worldwide to still require the license than to abolish it.

It's true most countries don't have a TV licence, but they still dip their fingers into the pockets of the general public to fund state broadcasters one way or another, either through the tax system or added onto a household bill as a levy. I think the info can be found on Wikipedia.

You cant watch anything live without one, time to head to the pub!
To be fair though ChilliJon, you did only say you can't watch ANY live TV about 6 times in the video!!
Some people apparently need a 7th..!!
These so called detector vans are like Bigfoot.
The only detector vans that ever existed were the nazi ones in 1940 that hunted down agents using radio sets. No such thing these days.

Anyone who's unsure on if they're allowed to watch live streams on UA-cam, Twitch etc. without a TV licence, read the reply I got from TV licensing regarding this query after numerous email exchanges:
"09/03/2018
Dear Mr ********
Thank you for your reply.
If you're watching a live television broadcast through UA-cam, for instance a broadcast from Channel 4, at the same time it is being broadcast on TV, then a TV Licence will be required. This is the same for any website where a live TV broadcast is being watched and the BBC iPlayer.
However, if you're watching a live UA-cam channel that is only being broadcast on UA-cam, then a licence won't be required.
..."
So it seems if you don't have a TV licence, normal internet live streams are still allowed, so you can watch your favourite streamers on Twitch, UA-cam etc. Just don't watch any live broadcasts that are also airing on traditional TV channels...through ANY website. E.g. don't watch Sky news live on the UA-cam Sky News channel.
~~~
(Just to clarify: You can watch PRE-RECORDED videos of Channel 4, Sky etc. through online streaming services, just not LIVE videos. (However, BBC iPlayer doesn't follow this pattern: You can't watch ANY CONTENT AT ALL through BBC iPlayer - neither live nor pre-recorded.))
Excellent work
Note to those who watch iPlayer. A local had a letter from TVL saying that they "noticed" him watching iPlayer, but there was no record of a licence at his address.
It looks like they are doing what they said they would not do, and that is check the IP addresses of users of the player.
If he didn’t have a licence he shouldn’t have been using iplayer so I have no sympathy
Most likely peeping through the window. It is not possible for the BBC to SPY on you. It is illegal and technically impossible. They will peep through your curtains though. They might even enter a private back garden. I have experienced that.
IP addresses work on multiple layers and the first layer might be shared amoungst 1000 people. Only ISPs have any record of the IP address indexing and logs. BBC being private will NEVER have instant access to such data.
NEVER.
Not even Mi5 have the capabilities that BBC always claim to have. The TV licensing detector vans of the 80s were complete bullshit too. No technology was available to do such a thing.
A TV licence to watch live broadcasts from any source... So if I want to watch a sports event such as football that is broadcast live on Eurosport then I have to pay for a licence. Well firstly I don't. I never watch live TV. But that aside, I take issue with this rule. Rules must be based on righteous reasoning yes? If not then anyone could make up some rule to extort money. Rules that are made by criminals do not need to be followed, yes? Now we know the licence fee is given to the BBC but the BBC do not have the rights to broadcast football, or F1 or many of the material broadcast by other channels. So in fact I cannot watch their channel even if I wanted to. But not only do they not have the rights to broadcast that material, they did not produce it either. And when it is delivered over the internet they do not play any part in the distribution - said 'broadcasting'. So they play no part from start to finish. Yet they can receive money as a result of it??? They are trying to sell something they do not own. And in our society we have private property. You cannot sell something you do not own. Maybe I will make a rule that says you have to buy a licence from me to drink a cup of coffee or read a book. I don't make or distribute either but hey this is the land where the BBC can charge money for something they have no involvement in and in the case of sports events - don't even have the rights to broadcast it anyway.
Great video mate you’ve timed it right on the head so went out for Amazon fire box’ And also download Netflix which is another online streaming service like the Genteman said you only need a TV licence if you watch live TV or if not on BBC iPlayer.
New sub, You do make sense, as it saves all the scary crap at the door with the BBC licensing people, I never watch BBC, I think it must be 8 years since I switched the BBC on. My wife watches The Chase and Tipping Point then the tv is off for another 22 hours, as I do not watch it at all, unfortunately, she is very law-abiding and pays up every month. How can you pay for a tv licence when you havent signed an agreement. How do they get away with this scam
I do not know the way the them detector vans work, but, due to my personal experience it is very easy to here what is going on in your home without entering it or having any devices inside. Just need a clear view of your window. Do they have a right gear, or not, I do not know
All I do is watch Netflix and catch up, I don't watch BBC iPlayer plus I play video games so what do I need a tv licence for.
great content, clear and easy to understand. thanks.
a lot of people still beleive that you need a licence just by owning a tv, which is totaly false. by the way, you also do not need a licence if you use the tv with console gaming or using it to watch dvd's via bluray player.
I've also been told that you need a licence if you have any device that can be used to stream live TV! This is rubbish isn't it? as they would be charging everyone with a phone, tablet and TV etc.
Yep it's rubbish, not true at all. As long you dont watch live tv or bbc iplayer you dont need a licence regardless of what equipment you own
1st they said you must have a TV licence if you watch our programmes then years later they saw people were watching those by old recording or players like dvd, So the law got changed so Now if you buy a TV or DVD player you must have a TV licence just for owning one of these media units? So the BBC get you anyway they can, the Government back up this by re doing the TV licencing laws each time to help fund the BBC so the Government don't have to pay the BBC more than they do now? So it seems no matter how we try the BBC ge around it by geing the law changed to suit it?
that's not true Colin, you can own all the equipment you like without a licence
just rang them up and within 5 minutes its cancelled so no more letters n no more licence thx for the info m8
A freind of mine has contacted Channel 4 and they said you don't need a licence to watch their channel, even live as they have nothing to do with bbc or licence fee
Its not about watching bbc etc..it's about the ability to recieve bbc and other crap you need a license for..thats their get out clause..
We know that already. It’s a complete scam to have to pay the bbc for right to watch other channels.
I am sending a letter to tv licensing, informing them if they send any correspondence via visits, letter or email, that they will be commong a crime, under the harreasment act.
I started with a Now TV box (which is a Roku 2) and found it to restrictive, hence the reason why it's so cheap. So upgraded to a Roku 3 and never looked back.
Good advice
I now have a roku also. Some of the channels are great.
I watch a lot of 50s 3D movies in on of the free apps on there
I own a Roberts Stream 93i internet radio. Honest, with the amount of internet radio stations plus on demand channels available online, the BBC has become a tiny minnow. I haven't listened to, or watched anything to do with the BBC in over seven years.
Are you aware of how much BBC content there is on Netflix? Netflix gives me all the entertainment I need but is half the price of the licence. The BBC just doesn't get it!
Yep there's a lot, and the BBC sell it to them commercial.
The BBC also has an interest in UKTV, so Dave and Gold etc which are commercial
So since you have to pay for it are there no commercials on BBC?
Not on the bbc channels
But on the bbc foreign channels there are commercials. And they also have a stake in UKTV, which is Dave, gold etc and they are commercial
I don’t need bbc channels so I don’t pay.
TV License ppl say u have to have license even if you watch video on your mobile
Only if it's a live broadcast or you are using BBC iplayer. Anything else is perfectly legal. I watch a lot of netflix on my phone and tablet on the train, its fine
ChilliJonCarne
Okay got you☺
The problem is, you can't make your device incapable of streaming the BBC channels. Its entirely up to you on a daily basis not to inadvertently or accidentally flick over to a channel you shouldn't be watching. One wrong slip by your thumb and, oops, here come the goons! They've always said in the past that if your TV is *capable* of picking up live TV, then you must have a license. Well, any device connected to the internet is also capable, so I don't understand the difference. If you allow the goons into your home and they discover your TV is capable of picking up live TV, then you're in trouble. You have to physically render your TV incapable, usually by removing cables and wall sockets, etc, so that you can prove it. But now you're saying rather than having to prove it, its all based on trust?
Yes it's all based on trust.
But if you are not watching live tv then there would be no need to have an antenna cable or sky box connected to your tv anyway would there.
I have many TV boxes connected to mine, some can indeed receive live broadcast, but I don't use that.
See this video for more... ua-cam.com/video/i9cEdbS99Go/v-deo.html
I use Chromecast myself, but it lets me steam my google play movies and tv and UA-cam premium shows to the telly... so that’s awesome :)
dont the tv licence people still harrass you?
Nope, had one visit in 5 years and just a reminder letter every two years asking if I need a licence yet.
Did a whole video about it, you can find it here ua-cam.com/video/VMb-fd_9gpY/v-deo.html
I've had no TV licence for 45 years - about 3 visits from Goons in all that time! Last one, was around 2004. Hate the biased BBC, it is a disgrace to the broadcasting world & oozes "Fake news" Case rested....
David, You are pressuming Bob needs a TV licence, why do you presume that?
Did you know the goons can visit regardless of your situation just because the address has no tv licence, same as the harrassing threat letters can be sent regardless of your situation, it is part of the business model to send harrassing letters and goons.
I'v been exempting myself for the last 4 years, got a letter last month giving me a specific day someone from licencing would visit... no one turned up.
Hi there like the video's was just wondering do you have to pay for a tv licence if I have a phone because couldn't they just say I watch BBC though that ?
It's a good question, but you don't have to pay the fee if you have a telly or a laptop, and they are also capable of accessing the BBC too. Pretty much anything is these days. Iplayer is even built in to my tv and I can't remove it!
But no, you dont need a licence if you dont access the bbc. If you open the iplayer app you will need to sign in and tell them you have a licence before you can watch it. So if you dont have a licence dont access it and you are perfectly legal.
Thanks alot
its says if you have a mobile phone or listen to the radio you need a licence..so i dont get it.
because it's designed to confuse you and intimidate you into paying for a licence even if you don't need one
@@ChilliJonCarne Yes, but, you don't need to give your name to the BBC, make one up, just click on the button that says you have a licence already, they won't know, you've given them a made up name and email how can they check anything, they're false, they don't know me from Donald Duck, I can give any email address from any free email hosting site, I can set up 20 different accounts with the BBC all with individual email addresses, how will they ever know which is legit and which aren't?? I could be living in France, or, Belgium, don't forget the BBC airwaves go across the English Channel, do you think Continental Europeans pay a BBC licence fee, don't be bloody silly. Oh, and also don't forget you can watch the iPlayer from anywhere in the World.
To stream BBC iPlayer in Australia, you only need to follow these easy steps:
Purchase a VPN with servers in the UK. ...
Download the VPN and install it on your device.
Select a UK server from the VPN's list of available servers and connect.
Go to BBC iPlayer and pick a show to watch.
Great presentation mate!....well done!
Don't watch none of their crap.
So you do watch it then? Double negative.
Its common informal British language to use double negatives as a single negative.
Commoner not common.
many thanks for the sound advice!
You’re welcome. Thanks for the comment
Q: If they took away ALL the Repeats, How much LIVE TV would there be...?
I have talked about this for you in my new video, here... ua-cam.com/video/ThqqnJjrwAg/v-deo.html
With Now TV, if you've had a pass for a while and then decide to cancel it, they often offer a reduced rate for a few months to tempt you to stay, so that's always worth a try. (Also works if you're subscribed to Audible, Amazon's audiobook wing)
I never watch tv but I watch UA-cam on my tv and occasionally Netflix
Thanx, that's great!!!lovely and simple, just wat I like! 👍😊👌🙏🙂Nowtv-here I come. Thanx 4 the top tips on buying on ebay too! Even more fab! Kind wishes for you for ur willingness to share ur knowledge to help others, 👍😊🙏
One question why do we have to pay the BBC to watch the free channels live?
Yes
You need a tv Licence to watch ANY live tv. ... and bbc iplayer
Any non live tv that’s not on iplayer is fair game
Their channels don't have advertment funding like other channels
ChilliJonCarne He asked why.
Bryan Leigh so why don’t you tell him?
Getting visit on the 8.2.03..I not open door if in..age 75..not on pension credit stopped dwp found savings..had letter visit 8.2.03..I do follow your advice channel..thanks..Blackburn
Well done sir👍
Didn't sky put the live channels in the option menu of now tv?
I'm not brilliant with it, it's more the mrs that uses it, but when I've flicked through movies if you're not careful you can end up watching a live one from my experience.
Angry And Drunk In Essex I was told to have the amazon fire stick which doesn't have the live tv option as long the apps that can receive live tv are not downloaded. Now tv is a grey area as it does have the live tv option within the menu option.
So do a lot of the on demand apps, I've noticed the ITV one always tried to make you watch it live.
As long as you dont use that bit you'll be alright
ChilliJonCarne but the best way to be legal is to not have them sort of apps downloaded.
Excellent and informative, thank you.
Just don't pay it... Wake up!! It's an Act not a Law.. Without a contr'act' they have as much authority over you as a double glazing salesman... Stop listening to this mug and just stop paying and watch what you like
KILLBILDERBURG Sorry but it is the law in the UK. You can be prosecuted and fined if you watch live TV without a TV licence.
It's called an ACT because in our parliamentary system ALL laws are made by an ACT of Parliament.
lopadops Sorry that’s just wrong. All statutes are Acts of Parliament. It’s not just civil law....
They can check the address for any kind of contract, right?
De-platform the BBC NOW
Thank you. Recently I realised I hadn’t watched any live TV or even switched my free view box on for abt a year - and I have a 5yr old! And for a lot longer than this I’ve despised the BBC’s prime time and TV news programming. Top Gear and Chris Evans was the last straw. I think BBC radio is great.
For instance one thing you must do is DE-tune T.V,so that it does not fall into this category and disable Ariel permanently.
Don’t have to disable it permanently
I just don’t have a lead from the aerial to my tv
It's an Aerial - not a washing powder...!
No you don't, as long as you don't watch it's fine.
Great video, I therefore assume it is legal to watch the F1 highlights on the C4 website without a tv license or is that considered a live showing of highlights?
