You talking the truth about the tires makes you the farthest from a fanboy. Iracing hs been chasing the tire since the inception, 15+ years. I’ve said it in your other videos, the tire at 95% + turns too butter. The hate you’re getting is from those that call iracing, “irenting “ and costs too much. It’s probably the cheapest hobby I’ve ever had. They’ve never played golf, moto track days, boating, fishing etc lol
GT4 is the class to drive. I love it in iRacing. I’m sure the experience in a real car is amazing. Thanks for this video, it helps with those questions I’ve always had.
It’s so much fun to drive. The racing is incredible as well. In my opinion, it’s one of the best classes of racing because you don’t have a lot of downforce, and it’s all based on mechanical grip.

I think if you up'd the gamma on iRacing, increased the bass with an EQ, increased engine sounds, increased crash sounds (curb strikes) and decreased tire sounds it would appear even more like irl
Don’t turn the tire sounds down, in fact turn them up and the engine sounds a bit down. In IRacing they, absent of gravitational forces, provide another source of sensory information.
Reminds me of when Dale Earnhardt Junior mentioned how the sim helped him with Watkins, first time he went there (long time ago..). Funny you got to do this comparison on the same track.

I live in the southeast Texas area and was working right by the Winward Shop in pasadena. Seeing the cars in the garage when I drove by every day was the coolest thing ever. Now you're racing for them and it's even cooler. The fact I probably saw your car in there is awesome.

Simracing may not be the most important thing on earth but there are still going to be a lot of people for whom the truth of a real race car driver saying iRacing is the most realistic platform is something they just want to deny. So they will make up all sorts of conspiratorial nonsense as a result. Ignore them because they are well worth ignoring. Morad go vroom.
At the end of the day, a lot of people can have their opinion, but they also don’t have a single lap in the real car so it’s hard to take the opinion of someone who has no experience to back it up. If somebody has some facts that they can bring to the table, I’m open to listening, but anybody that comments against this usually has never stepped foot in a real car. The funny thing is, if you ask any real racing driver what it’s like, they will let you know that this is the closest thing. It’s not perfect, but it’s the best we have.
@@danielmorad Not to gild the lily on this, but there is such an unseemly reaction against true expertise these days. You drive race cars. I don't. So unless I don't believe you for some other valid reason, for which I at least need a shred of substantive evidence, I should trust you. I have no horse in this race - all the real sim contenders are somewhere on my hard-drive or my Steam account. So it is great to get your view - and give iRacing props. I equally trust that if somebody else puts out something better than iRacing we will hear that from you as well. In other words keep doing what you are doing. It works, both in service to our community and commercially (asked my wife the other day for a belated Father's Day gift of a couple of pairs of your sim-racing socks ;).
I've heard similar feedback about the Porsche GT4 from real life drivers. Even with only road car experience, it feels a lot closer to me (especially the ability to regain control if you flirt with the limit, which iracing traditionally fails hard at) than many other cars in that sim. Hopefully they can get most of the cars up to this level.
Rfactor2 has the force feedback dialed in perfect. Especially with the tire feedback you were talking about. Traction.. traction.. traction.. wheel light. Back off.. traction in the wheel again.
I have no need to feel this way other than it being a good game. I’m not paid by them and all of the opinions are my own. I love how there a few comments saying that I’m a fan boy. It just is what it is. There’s a reason Max Verstappen plays iRacing and nothing else.

Which chat? I’m guessing on the UA-cam live stream? At the end of the day, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Most people making these outrageous remarks are people who have never stepped foot in a real race car. Always remember that and where the noise is coming from.

And one dude actually made a point that real life racers say that iRacing does poor job with simulation and mentioned your previous video, but completely ignoring braking part of that. But yeah I personally think that competition is good and every sim has it best and worst sides.
Morad Go Vroom indeed. I have recently terrified myself driving GT3’s around VIR on iRacing. I managed a 1:48 and just thought surely these cars can’t go this fast, this is bonkers. I Googled the GT3 series and there’s Daniel going Vroom doing 1:44’s. Kudos Daniel, much respect.

Morad go vroom! I always wondered how close these would feel. I use the AMG GT3 after coming from it and the GT4 in ACC. A couple nitpicky things about the dash for the iRacing version (no notification on screen for brake bias changes and to me the Engine Maps are backwards) but I have always wondered how close they are with that car even down to notifications on the dash.

This in detail comparisson was so incredibly interesting, thx a lot for sharing your impressions! I think it's fantastic that you find the interest and time to compare those two worlds in details and describe it to those who probably never have the chance to drive in a real race car. I'd also love to see you reviewing and comparing race incidents / racecraft, especially in multiclass endurance races of your IRL experience and situations you came across in iRacing and/or videos of such situations being sent to you. I think that would also be very interesting to see the point of view of a professional IRL racer in some tricky multiclass racecraft situations / passes.

Morad go vroom :). If you haven't already, I would try playing around with irffb. It's a 3rd party software which adds ffb effects based off game telemetry. The "seat of pants" or oversteer effect I find the most useful. Gives you a nice subtle opposite torque feeling when the rears start to go. Makes the ffb almost feel like AC1.

I appreciate you Daniel. I will say, when you first started posting, your "posture" or "smugness" of "I AM A PRO RACING DRIVER!!" was off-putting, but in more recent videos you seem more comfortable and humble, which makes you more accessible (and ultimately more likeable). I'll add that I've been a FanBoi of ACC for the last 6 months, but recently (finally) got into iRacing, and yeah, I "get it" now. I do wish iRacing would put some effort into improved graphics and sounds, and OMG the Porche GT3 cup car seems like complete garbage to me, but the MX5 and F488 and to some extent the Merc GT4 are excellent, so I guess we can't have everything... These one on one comparison videos are awesome; Yes Please do one for GT3 and GT4 in ACC (please make sure the settings and car setup are proper, so you give it a fair shake). Good luck this season! What a great video Daniel! I think you could get a tiny bit more feeling mid corner, if you would adjust your simucube settings. Running a bit lower forces without any static force reduction while using less friction really helps with that. But most of it is probably because of the tire model. Can’t wait to see iracings new tire model haha Morad go vroom!
@@danielmorad your definitely right with that, the tires arent 100% correct. I just think that running static force reduction can make the cornering grip levels feel weird, because that filter is time based, not telemetry based. So it will cut off more force in long corners, than in short ones and barely do anything on fast direction changes. Running a lower max force ends up being more consistent and allows for a tad less damping/friction. But if you have done extensive testing, you will know what you are talking about 👍 to be honest i am already pretty blow away by how close you rated it compared to the real thing! The video was really informative as always daniel, your content is the best 🙏 is there any chance for a prototype video in the future? I know your mainly a gt3 and gt4 driver, but you have also driven prototypes in the past, right?

I just stumbled across this video today and it's absolutely great to see a comparison from someone who actually uses this car. I do have two questions about braking though: 1) In the iRacing, everyone brakes 100% before slow corners and the ABS kicks in. In GT3 cars in iRacing this is not possible, the wheels overheat but in GT4 there is no penalty for this in the form of overheated wheels or other issues, is this the case in real life? 2) In the video of the real car, you can see that the brake pedal has quite a lot of travel. Nowadays, a number of simulator equipment manufacturers tell us (Asetek for example) that race car pedals have almost zero travel, and that the brake actually behaves as if one is pushing one's foot against a wall. It is obvious from the video that this is not true. Which pedals are you using please? Which pedals are closest to a GT4 car in your experience? Anyway Morad, thanks so much for that comparison.
Thanks a lot. To put it simply. I don’t necessarily brake at 100% in game. It’s very rare that I go to the maximum pressure. I always feel like I go faster when I’m modulating the max pressure. Depends on the elevation and compression of the tires. But normally, it’s better not to smash to 100%, but you can get away with it and not be too far off pace. Same in real life. I tent to not brake as hard as possible. I really try to feel the grip in the tires. In terms of pedals, I use Simucube ActivePedals. They’re super expensive but honestly, it’s the only pedal that has Precision and the correct travel. Normally with standard elastomer load cell pedals, they need stiff and short travel to get precise values on the sims. I’ve never driven a race car, even a formula or prototype that had a brake travel as short as these modern sim pedals
drove that car on iracing last night if that car is as good as it gets on the sim then the real version must be hell lot of fun i had a blast last night on vln
Hello Daniel ! A huge thank you for your videos and your sharing of experience. Like many, I am passionate about motorsport but I do not have your chance to drive in real life. Simulation is a way to satisfy my passion. I loved your video on the driver's position in the cockpit (seat, steering wheel, pedals), by comparing your measurements to mine, I have almost the same, a few centimeters or degrees ready I was so suprised but so happy to have a real comparison possible.
I can totally relate to what you feel although I‘m not a real life race driver. Two things: where IRacing really have to step up is the tire models, BOP between cars and the force feedback especially on corners combined with tires pressure.

Now with the Merc GT4 I’ll try and put some of your input about braking and throttle control into practice. Been thinking about a coaching session one of these days.

Braking in ACC isnt quite right. I do need to make a video about it.

Which chat? I’m guessing on the UA-cam live stream? At the end of the day, everybody is entitled to their own opinion. Most people making these outrageous remarks are people who have never stepped foot in a real race car. Always remember that and where the noise is coming from.

And one dude actually made a point that real life racers say that iRacing does poor job with simulation and mentioned your previous video, but completely ignoring braking part of that. But yeah I personally think that competition is good and every sim has it best and worst sides.
Morad Go Vroom indeed. I have recently terrified myself driving GT3’s around VIR on iRacing. I managed a 1:48 and just thought surely these cars can’t go this fast, this is bonkers. I Googled the GT3 series and there’s Daniel going Vroom doing 1:44’s. Kudos Daniel, much respect.

Morad go vroom! I always wondered how close these would feel. I use the AMG GT3 after coming from it and the GT4 in ACC. A couple nitpicky things about the dash for the iRacing version (no notification on screen for brake bias changes and to me the Engine Maps are backwards) but I have always wondered how close they are with that car even down to notifications on the dash.
We dont get BB change on the dash. That isnt real in ACC. The screen is identical to the real car.

This in detail comparisson was so incredibly interesting, thx a lot for sharing your impressions! I think it's fantastic that you find the interest and time to compare those two worlds in details and describe it to those who probably never have the chance to drive in a real race car.
I'd also love to see you reviewing and comparing race incidents / racecraft, especially in multiclass endurance races of your IRL experience and situations you came across in iRacing and/or videos of such situations being sent to you. I think that would also be very interesting to see the point of view of a professional IRL racer in some tricky multiclass racecraft situations / passes.
I made a video about that but I could expand on it a bit more. Thanks a lot.

Morad go vroom :). If you haven't already, I would try playing around with irffb. It's a 3rd party software which adds ffb effects based off game telemetry. The "seat of pants" or oversteer effect I find the most useful. Gives you a nice subtle opposite torque feeling when the rears start to go. Makes the ffb almost feel like AC1.

I will say, when you first started posting, your "posture" or "smugness" of "I AM A PRO RACING DRIVER!!" was off-putting, but in more recent videos you seem more comfortable and humble, which makes you more accessible (and ultimately more likeable). I'll add that I've been a FanBoi of ACC for the last 6 months, but recently (finally) got into iRacing, and yeah, I "get it" now. I do wish iRacing would put some effort into improved graphics and sounds, and OMG the Porche GT3 cup car seems like complete garbage to me, but the MX5 and F488 and to some extent the Merc GT4 are excellent, so I guess we can't have everything... These one on one comparison videos are awesome; Yes Please do one for GT3 and GT4 in ACC (please make sure the settings and car setup are proper, so you give it a fair shake). Good luck this season! Go Vroom.

I think you could get a tiny bit more feeling mid corner, if you would adjust your simucube settings. Running a bit lower forces without any static force reduction while using less friction really helps with that. But most of it is probably because of the tire model. Can’t wait to see iracings new tire model haha

@@danielmorad your definitely right with that, the tires arent 100% correct. I just think that running static force reduction can make the cornering grip levels feel weird, because that filter is time based, not telemetry based. So it will cut off more force in long corners, than in short ones and barely do anything on fast direction changes. Running a lower max force ends up being more consistent and allows for a tad less damping/friction. But if you have done extensive testing, you will know what you are talking about 👍 to be honest i am already pretty blow away by how close you rated it compared to the real thing! The video was really informative as always daniel, your content is the best 🙏 is there any chance for a prototype video in the future? I know your mainly a gt3 and gt4 driver, but you have also driven prototypes in the past, right?

I just stumbled across this video today and it's absolutely great to see a comparison from someone who actually uses this car.
I do have two questions about braking though:
1) In the iRacing, everyone brakes 100% before slow corners and the ABS kicks in. In GT3 cars in iRacing this is not possible, the wheels overheat but in GT4 there is no penalty for this in the form of overheated wheels or other issues, is this the case in real life?
2) In the video of the real car, you can see that the brake pedal has quite a lot of travel. Nowadays, a number of simulator equipment manufacturers tell us (Asetek for example) that race car pedals have almost zero travel, and that the brake actually behaves as if one is pushing one's foot against a wall. It is obvious from the video that this is not true. Which pedals are you using please? Which pedals are closest to a GT4 car in your experience?

Thanks a lot. To put it simply. I don’t necessarily brake at 100% in game. It’s very rare that I go to the maximum pressure. I always feel like I go faster when I’m modulating the max pressure. Depends on the elevation and compression of the tires. But normally, it’s better not to smash to 100%, but you can get away with it and not be too far off pace. Same in real life. I tent to not brake as hard as possible. I really try to feel the grip in the tires. In terms of pedals, I use Simucube ActivePedals. They’re super expensive but honestly, it’s the only pedal that has Precision and the correct travel. Normally with standard elastomer load cell pedals, they need stiff and short travel to get precise values on the sims. I’ve never driven a race car, even a formula or prototype that had a brake travel as short as these modern sim pedals

Hello Daniel ! A huge thank you for your videos and your sharing of experience. Like many, I am passionate about motorsport but I do not have your chance to drive in real life. Simulation is a way to satisfy my passion. I loved your video on the driver's position in the cockpit (seat, steering wheel, pedals), by comparing your measurements to mine, I have almost the same, a few centimeters or degrees ready I was so suprised but so happy to have a real comparison possible.
I can totally relate to what you feel although I‘m not a real life race driver.
Two things: where IRacing really have to step up is the tire models, BOP between cars and the force feedback especially on corners combined with tires pressure.

Now with the Merc GT4 I’ll try and put some of your input about braking and throttle control into practice. Been thinking about a coaching session one of these days.

Morad go Vroom! Noticing a lot more steering feedback on the real car versus the sim. Sim inputs are too smooth and no reactions when car wheels track over the curbs
There’s more feeling or tire deflection in the real car which is why you have these micro corrections.
