Take a look around your area for a good breeder. Go form a relationship to that person, get to know their dogs, go play with the pups when they have them. I did this, and have found a friend and breeder who is the person I go to when I'm ready. Look for someone who does all the blood testing, tracks the breeding, doesn't breed brother/sister, has experience and a good track record. And most importantly, doesn't overbreed. And they take back any pups for any reason at any point in that dog's life, they insist they are returned to them and not gifted or surrendered. This is the breeding you want. Breeding matters in Doberman behavior. And then, once you have the dog, be ready for spending solid time training that dog. It will get in the way of your social life and all kinds of things, but it's so worth it to have a well trained dog for the rest of its life. The well trained, chill Doberman who is so loving and so protective, well there's nothing else like it. Then I got into hunting dogs, got into livestock & got livestock dogs and then was introduced to and fell in love with the protection type breeds. One of my favorite dogs now is my young Rotti/Mal mix. When you actually have dogs for a real PURPOSE instead of just a house pet, it changes how you think about them.
Nice job people. I love what they said about the throw away society and how they believed as breeders they were responsible for the life of the dog. Excellent and responsible. I had occasion to work for a fella with a couple champion dobies. This description fit these dogs to a tee, so smart excellent companions despite the innate guard dog abilities.
Many, many thanks to you folks for such a complete documentary on this fabulous breed! I have had the immense privilege of owning and loving 3 of them ♥ I appreciated SO very much the fact that your policy regarding disposal or rehoming one of your dogs for any reason is forbidden in the contract. Returning one of your Dobermans to you is crucial~! Outstanding. KUDOS!
Had a red male, and he was absolutely the most incredible dog I’ve EVER owned. Kids are grown and gone now: 1) What is the typical price for one of your dogs? 2) What is the wait time/process to receive a puppy once ordered?
Goodness you're explanation of the comparison between crop and doc vs spay and neuter is EXACTLY how I explain it, down to the invasive procedure of spaying and cutting the abdomen wall of a female! Thank you for your solid information. I love these dogs.
@@rebeccaflournoy4439 everyone says that about their breed of dog I've had them all dobermans, German shepherd, a rotties, and 2 malinois. 1 thing I can tell you is about 1 out of every 100 will naturally protect you without any training. Yet alone protect your property if you are not home. I've put it all to the test and I've trained dogs. Most of the time they will make alot of noise and panic and sometimes it's enough to possibly scare someone away but most likely they will not protect you like a trained dog and that is a fact.
A very informative video. As someone who has had a Doberman companion, I agree that they are a unique and wonderful breed. I am not a "one breed only" person and currently I have a magnificent Rhodesian Ridgeback who weighs in at 110 lbs as my constant companion, but Dobermans are definitely one of my favorite breeds. I've defended ear cropping for years on the grounds that it does have a benefit in reducing the incidence of ear infections (Most canine ear infections occur in floppy eared breeds.) But as the breeder here mentioned, the unnecessary neutering and spaying of dogs is far more invasive and has more dire consequences than ear cropping has ever had. In males especially, removal of the gonads often leads to endocrine imbalances and adrenal gland deficiencies eventually culminating in Cushing's disease, which can prove fatal to the dog. If neutering is not medically necessary it is best to avoid doing it.
+Jack Kangaroo ..."If neutering is not medically necessary it is best to avoid doing it". As a responsible dog owner, its your job to prevent unwanted dog pregnancy... as the owner of a Pure breed dog - its even more responsible to maintain the blood line. As you have mentioned, spay and neutering is much more serious, in its consquences than is revealed in all the cute ASPCA sponsored personal service ADs on TV and in magazines. Spay and neutering is abrogation of your responsibility to control your pets, keep them safe and maintain their well being... it has nothing to do with what is best for the dog. Just as a responsible parent...should - educate their offspring, prevent teen pregnancy... so should pet owners. That doesn't require you permanently alter them to make sure they do cause or get pregnant at an early age. there are many roads to prevention, which do not require a permenet solution ... to a temporary, but merely - potential - problem Many animals dogs, cats, horses bulls, cows - etc. Never show their true worth, until after reaching maturity. By neutering or spaying an animal - based, solely on appearances while they are puppies, cubs or colts - means that once they reach maturity and you find they have other qualities which you would like to see in the next generation... its too late. to me... the whole idea of - NO-Fault pet ownership is missing the point of having personal pet companions or working dogs who perform services for their handlers.
Dobermans are one of the strongest breeds out there, there also very pretty and smart, there personally my favorite breed. I have a doberman myself and he is the best dog I've ever owned!

Great video, great information, and Beautiful Doberman . I can tell you really know your dogs I have owned three Dobes, and you’re right on what you’re saying about them they are lapdogs they are house dogs, very loyal and committed dogs. I really want to get another one someday. I really enjoyed your video ! 🐾🐾
Dobies are great. I got one soon as I turned 18 and got my own place. Man did he wreck it lol. Wasn't his fault, I worked a lot when he was young and he was lonely. He had a great life and took a piece of my heart with him when he died.
Great video, and very beautiful dogs. Regarding all the negative crop/dock comments; I wanted to just say, you can crop my ears too if I can live on your 10 acre Santa Rosa property. Seriously, come on people. These dogs are being treated like royalty on this ranch and would gladly have scratched their own each ears off if necessary... ;)
Years ago i was asked to take over a cross malinois-dobermann and it was a fantastic dog. Looks and mind was very much dobermann.(i found out) I lost her to bone cancer when she was 7 yo. After several sheperds and a kooiker i looked for a more weather resistend dog like that and came up with a riesenschnauzer. I bought a 'looking for a new home' riesenschnauzer and after about 1,5 years he was the finest dog i ever had. (he lacked confidence) Eversince only schauzers in the house, riesen and dwerg. ( and a haunting dog cross munsterlander-heidewachtel, lovely nice dog.)

I agree with almost everything said here. Note that the nerve ending in the tail and ears are not fully developed in pups, so if cropped and docked early it significantly reduces the irritation.
Been around American Dobes since 1971 and owned them since 1984. Our son owns 2, including a 4 yr old Eastern European Male that literally comes from a family of war dogs. All of ours animals have been purchased over the decades from top US Breeders focused on the confirmation ring. We have AKC champions in our past and our newest male was sired by the current #3 Dobe Grand Champin. The info in this video is very accurate. The point at 15 minutes about socialization cannot be emphasized enough, you must do it and do it while they're young! I do think the O'Conners are incorrect on one small point, that is - the size of the European Dobe. My experience is they are heavier, thicker, more muscled and taller typically than US counterparts. Couldn't agree more with everything else pointed out in the video and happy to stumble onto it and enjoy the content. At 15 minutes
Wanted to get a good guard dog and one thats good with family for over a year now, reason why it took me so long is the fact that different people have different thinking when it comes to dogs. Watching youtube videos are all confusing since every person will tell what they personally like, not whats best out there.. but watching you explaining abt dobermans i honestly think Doberman will be my very 1st dog im gonna buy soon. Dobermans are the kind of dog we wanted for a while now 👌
Yea my Dobberman could open door's, count and loved beer. She knew and was not happy that she wasn't a human. Totally sweat, obedient and chill. I spent hours and hours and hours with her. She wasn't at all dog aggressive but she did hate squirrels. This couple seems like a great breeder.
Fell in love with both of you and the way you breed your Dobermans I had 7 of them. Now I know when my time comes where I’m going to get a Doberman from, how can I comunícate with you, webpage erc ? Thanks.
These breeders are knowledgeable and responsible. I love that they do thorough health checks. I lost one of my Dobermans to the heart problem known to plague them. I had no idea that it was a thing. He was only 5 years old. Heartbreaking! We did everything we could to try to save his life and nothing worked. I would love to get one from them. Three acres would be awesome to have for a Doberman. Nobody is going to come close to their house unannounced. 😁
I've had three Red males, and been around many other breeds, but as alluded to in this video the intelligence and curiosity of this breed is almost surreal. There is no other breed like them, they are the closest I've experienced to almost being like a human in a canine body. The things they manage to figure out on their own and their cleverness is something you have to stay on top of all the time or they will find a way to get into and around anything they put their mind to. Proper training is essential, but once that is in place they have no equal in my experience. On a side note, they can be hilarious dogs as you sit back and watch their superior cognitive abilities encountering new objects or environments.
I'm from Germany and they are definitly not viewed as a medium sized breed. the breed standard for their withers height is 70cm which is pretty much the height of a kangal and big breeds like that. and they have a leaner torso, they look more elegant than the dobi in this video. great vid tho they have much knowledge
Fat Joe the bigger they are the more health problems they have and are less effective for work. Biggers dobis are maybe more ‘elegant’ but not better dogs.
@@bafehd2336 I don't think the European ones are taller, but they're a tall breed in general because in Europe Dobermanns are from what I know definitely among the taller breeds out there. I definitely don't think the European ones have more health problems.
The UKC standard does not allow for a dog more than 100 lbs. if that gives you any idea. The American standard does not allow for a dog weighing more than 90 lbs
I feel bad, when they call the female dog a bitch , I do know that's what they are called I feel bad calling a dog and bitch and none of them will come out and say how much they cost
Awesome breeders. The Doberman is one dog that the more I’ve got to know in person, the less I’ve liked though. I was looking at getting one and for some reason since not choosing to, the more I’ve come across and got to know, the more I’m pleased I didn’t
This was an amazing video. The only thing that raised my eyebrow was when they stated that there is no difference in size and appearance between the American and European. European Dobermans are heavier, more muscular, slightly taller, thicker neck their muzzle is less pointed and more broad and their rust markings are often darker. Instead of the tan color they are a deep mahogany.
I had a Dobbie too, He was super agressive with strangers and not very socializied (WE DIDN'T SOCALIZE HIM much I KNOW BAD) but he was the most loving dog ever for family, My little sister went into his small house and he never even growled at her or did anything he was extremely caring and so fourth. BUT after two years an yeast infection appeared near his testicles so we went to Vet asked what to use he gave us some kind of spray, First attempt one of my parents was holding his neck (just in case he reacts)and the other sprayed him, He did attack but fortunately one of my parents hold him, So i was suprised (14 years at the time) why he did it i kinda knew it might kinda hurt or something but he literally agressively attacked like a stranger so i kinda did tell my parents maybe use muzzle when you spray him so he doesn't bite they didn't after a week he bite dad on his arm since he was spraying after few hours we had no other options but to kill him.. (Eastern Europe) The Dobbie had an issue also with legs he had his staying on his rear legs like German Shepherd wich is unsual.. (His parents were fit and healthy) 1 year ago before our case a women did tell my parent at the VET how a Doberman attacked his father similar case infection on chest but unfortunately his father got bitten on its face, SHE SAID HER FATHER LOVED THAT DOBBIE with all his heart.. I have this questions why would it happend? I kinda realize sociliazing and training are needed and may be one of the reasons but still attacking ur owner (WHO NEVER ABUSED HIM) WE NEVER EVEN HIT HIM OR ANYTHING.
I love the fact that we here in America, can do what we want with our dogs. When it comes to the question of docking and cropping, I am all for it as long as the procedure is done in a safe manner.
Qui Genus by that logic then the Jewish religion is barbaric for circumcising....oh wait..... Seriously? Get a life. Don’t like your rights taken away? Don’t take away someone else’s. So long as it’s done safely, who cares? The dog sure as fuck will not remember or really notice. You think that dog is gunna walk up to its doggy friends and feel self conscious cause it has a shorter tail or cropped ears? Lol 😂 if this is what you are worried about in life, I implore you to find a hobby. 😂
Qui Genus I don't think it's about pleasing the eye itself. It's about understanding the fact that I can do what I want with my dogs as long as it will not mess up my dog's health cause it stress emotional mental imbalance Etc. And
Qui Genus and I think the choice of your words is actually more barbaric. You talk about being barbaric. You sound like a barbarian. Learn to talk properly first then give advice on a topic.
Qui Genus and why do you keep saying pleasing the eye? Where do you even read that? People crop ears for a lot of different reasons not just for "pleasing the eye"
There's also the health factor. Cropped ears reduce likelihood of ear infection while docked tails make it live an easier indoor life. Their tails are known to wag quite a lot and if those things bang a table corner hard enough, get rolled over by a wheeled chair, etc. it can cause an injury prone to infection, pain, and phantom limb.

KUDOS!
Their dog's are amazing. Makes me miss my Sydney so very much. Thank you for interviewing them.
Had a red male, and he was absolutely the most incredible dog I’ve EVER owned.
Kids are grown and gone now:
1) What is the typical price for one of your dogs?
2) What is the wait time/process to receive a puppy once ordered?
Goodness you're explanation of the comparison between crop and doc vs spay and neuter is EXACTLY how I explain it, down to the invasive procedure of spaying and cutting the abdomen wall of a female! Thank you for your solid information. I love these dogs.
Dobermans are fantastic dogs had them for 18 years don't need to train them to protect never bred just loved love dobermans
If you think they dont need training for protection you are sadly mistaken.
I can vouch for the fact that they don't need training to protect you they are loyal dog

Here is your proof
As a Doberman owner, I can see that you really understand and get this breed. Thank you for your thoughtful video on our noble life partners!
That doesn't require you permanently alter them to make sure they do cause or get pregnant at an early age.
there are many roads to prevention, which do not require a permenet solution ... to a temporary, but merely - potential - problem
Many animals dogs, cats, horses bulls, cows - etc. Never show their true worth, until after reaching maturity. By neutering or spaying an animal - based, solely on appearances while they are puppies, cubs or colts - means that once they reach maturity and you find they have other qualities which you would like to see in the next generation... its too late.
to me... the whole idea of - NO-Fault pet ownership is missing the point of having personal pet companions or working dogs who perform services for their handlers.
these two seemed the most prepared for the interview so far. good talkers
Thanks a lot Lorna and Patrick O'Connor for be a super responsible breeders, breed for temperament qualities and for cropping their dogs too!
I love Doberman's, my favorite dog.
Very good looking Doberman... I had one too, I got it from a breeder in Italy while I was leaving there. What a wonderful pet he was.
You guys are incredible !! Keep up the good work !! Your dogs are absolutely amazing !! Magnificent creatures they are
Dobermans are one of the strongest breeds out there, there also very pretty and smart, there personally my favorite breed. I have a doberman myself and he is the best dog I've ever owned!
I'm a Rottie guy. As a Rottweiler owner I appreciate the way he described my breed and the others without dismissing them in a negative way. I've yet to own a Doberman. I've always wanted one. They've kind of been a favorite breed without having owned one.
You two are lovely! I think you're doing an awesome job with your kennel as well. Peace and Blessings to you and yours.
Thank you documentary tv
Such a wonderful breeder and trainer couple. I gave you both lots of respect from listening to you, I have two Doberman ( Black and Red) and I adore them every second of my days, could not ever imagine that abandon them ever since they are over the top to make sure our family is protected, and devoted their lives to us and please us in many ways. Yes, lots of keep up with their training, socializing, and discipline when we are out and about, and Foods, these babies can eat LOL Love Love Doberman Breed:)
I have a European Doberman that I rescued from a shelter... such an amazing breed, definitely my first choice.
Fantastic dogs mine passed away last year 14 years old but I'm going to get European one after Christmas from uk dobermans yours Patrick ps keep up showing the good videos
Love the breed love the video and I must agree with everything they said my dobies is my best friend
You guys are 110% right love my doberman PS I found him abandoned in a box in a parking lot and he's been the best dog ever
Dobies are great. I got one soon as I turned 18 and got my own place. Man did he wreck it lol. Wasn't his fault, I worked a lot when he was young and he was lonely. He had a great life and took a piece of my heart with him when he died.
Love Dobermans, can't wait to get mine :)
Just got my dobbie a few days ago!! So excited happy to have her along side my French bulldog bully mix
I love you guys way to go keep fighting for the dobbie
Thank you! !!!! Love your work but specially Doberman's.
Great video, and very beautiful dogs.
Regarding all the negative crop/dock comments; I wanted to just say, you can crop my ears too if I can live on your 10 acre Santa Rosa property. Seriously, come on people. These dogs are being treated like royalty on this ranch and would gladly have scratched their own each ears off if necessary... ;)
Very nice presentation and shared information. Thank you !
What a fantastic couple. If i lived in usa and wanted a dobermann, this is who i would see, 100%👍🏻👊🏻👌🏻♥️
Awesome video- so authentic! Best video I’ve seen.
These breeders are spot on! They know the breed and know what they're talking about. Would get a doberman from them.
Love what they said about the ear cropping and tail docking
You really do make the best "dogumentaries". Well done.
Very beautiful dobermans. Wish I could have chance to visit next time when I travel to CA
6:40 Very right!! My doberman pup was a handful growing up!!
Hello, the truth is super intelligent, very brave and not afraid, this is a small video of when I turned one year old, I invite you to subscribe to my small channel, I will upload more videos, greetings from Argentina. ua-cam.com/video/MLeUCRSZxSU/v-deo.html
Such good documentaries as always!
I agree with almost everything said here. Note that the nerve ending in the tail and ears are not fully developed in pups, so if cropped and docked early it significantly reduces the irritation.
You have the best dog breeds documentary. Nicd job!! Please i wanna know everything about Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Cheers
Loved the speech of cropping preach brotha this is America if you don’t like it don’t do it but don’t judge someone for their choice.
So nice to see such responsible breeders!
Gorgeous Dogs!!!😍😍😍 Wow, Dobermans have that deep broad Chest!!!
They are partially greyhound. And great Dane, rottweiler and whatnot .
I love good people like them, interesting video about the doberman bread , I truly love dobermans
Awesome video! Never stop making Doberman videos. Just change your channel to Doberman TV 😉
Crop and Dock! My Dobbie looks MAGNIFICENT and the renters next door are deathly afraid of him, and GOOD!! STAY AWAY! haha..
This couple seems like a great breeder.
what an awesome couple
Thank you dogumentarytv
Fell in love with both of you and the way you breed your Dobermans I had 7 of them. Now I know when my time comes where I’m going to get a Doberman from, how can I comunícate with you, webpage erc ? Thanks.
Love these folk. I pick up my 3rd dobe this week… 1 male euro and 2 female American
My first was 31” to withers and over 50kg
(Eastern Europe)
The Dobbie had an issue also with legs he had his staying on his rear legs like German Shepherd wich is unsual..
You are absolutely right on that socialization
Great video! Thank you for more on Dobermans!
They seem like the perfect dog for me were both athletic i hate the cold i love chilling with people i go out alot to duffrent places and meet different people and i understand tge aspects in training a working class dog
I really like your outlooks and your opinions I'm actually in search for a European Doberman and I want to get one from you two
THANK YOU !
Great guys❤. Greetings from Germany.
I had a big red European Doberman. I loved him probably more than any other breed I have owned.
We have alot of them here in Germany. All human agressive. Perfect guard dog love them
bullshit
cristianoo27 The originals, unlike the American lines.
cristianoo27 I don't know where you live in Germany that there are a lot of Human aggressive Dobermanns. I live my home life in Germany and know nearly all DV groups and there was only one Dobermann who was Human aggressive and that's just a few month bevor the training start...
Yes! Agree to 100%! The only human aggressive dogs I met in Germany have been really small dogs.
My Dobie loves the ladies.... not aggressive to women at all. The men though, he always looks out for them.
I would Love to buy a Doberman from them.
You guy make alot of good points!!!
Beautiful dogs
