DISCLAMER!!!! EVERY COUNTRY can have MANY COLORATIONS. It's not about geography at all! (Would be better if I just stick to celebrities in this case, I guess). It doesn’t mean that all women in India for example will be only plus one or plus two of course! It's just an example. Just wanted to embrace more people from all over the world. Also I wanted to FILL IN the scale. Once I worked on the video - I realised that +1 and +2 are filled in, but lighter contrast is not - that's why I got more blonds there for demonstration. Because there appeared to be much more different examples of +2 and +1 - that's why I put several African women in one category and didn't take many African countries - because in that category I also put women from Italy, Saudi, Japan, Greece and many more. It was filled. I did the research while I was filming the video. And then at the stage of editing I realised that it wasn't filled so i decided to get more -1 and -2 examples. I has nothing to do with nationalities. This is not "perfect science" or "ideal technology" or "all questions answered" kind of a video. It has nothing to do with 12 seasonal color analysis. It's confusing to me still this is why I've chosen this way. It's my first observation of contrast parameters on bodies based on the definition I cleared. Keep in mind that I used nationalities and women from different places on Earth ONLY to demonstrate different combinations of colorations and see more examples. I want you to see how dusty/clear you are and how dark/light. PS: I know that I mentioned Africa and shoed 3 different colorations from there, then I got specific ones from Morocco and Egypt. Only to show the diversity and types - not to do a "map of women" or "geography contrast" :)))
Ally, I think your research is great and you should consider Brazil as an enrichment point to your observations! Search for Brazilian UA-camrs and you will see! Mari Maria, Camila Coelho, Rayza Nicácio, Renata Meins. Brazilian top models don't apply. They are european beauty mostly of the time Thank you for that! Do you offer Kibbe consultations for the body types? I can't decide If I'm really a soft natural
@@sahtification OMG mari maria is ginger with reddish yelowwish eyes with freckles/ What???? So cool. I wish I knew earlier. Would be cool video - contrast of youtubers.
In that pakistan category, that women from the left is not Pakistani. That is Indian women. Rajasthani women from Rajasthan, India. But the right side is Pakistani.
I understand and I like your scaling contrast idea (gave me a new way to see things) but Africa is not a country, so I feel like how you who got many women of specific countries (mainly white or light skin ones), it would of been nice if you did the same for the many women of African countries, after all look-wise Switzerland, Finland, Norway, Denmark they all looked very similar to me but they weren't grouped into one. The most common Africans outside of Africa are Nigerians, Ghanaian, and South Africans; whereas Egypt and Morocco are highly Arabic and have much in common with Mediterranean ancestry. Also, just my 2 cents but I feel that you mixed up chroma and contrast. Contrast is about the differences between elements, not about muted/grayness and clear/brightness.
Meanwhile Instagram shows us bunch of women who look very much the same, Aly teach us about all the types of faces, bodies, skin color etc out there ❤️ And most important that they are all unique and beautiful 🤗
We need to be reminded that our unique characteristics are what make us beautiful. As a middle eastern growing up in the US, all I wanted was blonde hair and blue eyes and to blend in like every other girl as my differences were not celebrated. To see women getting cosmetic work to all look the same only teaches our future generation that there is one type of beauty; big eyes and lips, an hourglass figure, and it is this misconception that makes us not appreciate qualities that stray from this standard. I gave thought about getting lip filler more times than I can count, along with other things. I’m all for freedom of choice to make yourself happy, and I don’t believe in judging others choices, we get scrutinized enough as women as it is! But it’s important to note that we could all love ourselves a little bit more, even with our thicker thighs or smaller, thinner lips. Confidence and self-love, things you cannot buy... are ultimately most beautiful. Love yourselves, beautiful ladies. ❤️
Yes! I was getting sooooo bored. A top notch influencer just posted a video that, has the exact same content as 8 years ago, when she started. I have found some more interesting vlogs lately though.
I think the African woman is actually a -2. Against a white background, yes, she's very high contrast, but if we're talking about JUST her own coloring, it is all very close to the same. Very, very dark skin, very dark hair and very dark eyes. So, we could say, just as a very fair girl with very pale eyes and hair is a -2 because her shades are all similar, the woman from Africa, because all of her features are similar in shade, she also would be -2 on your scale. Because contrast, as you explained, can be easily defined as difference in shade. I hope that makes sense.
Very dark skinned women tend to reflect white light tough, giving them a lot of white 'skinshine' or highlights in all kinds of lighting, and there are still the whites of the eyes. Both these factors makes them high contrast.
Even though what you say makes a lot of sense, people count them to high contrast because of the white in their eyes. I believe that's true because it suits them to wear clothing that has high contrast like black and white. Grey wouldn't look as good on deep black skin. :) I could be wrong, though!
@@rivaldealerz We're talking about the contrast between everything that's part of their body - so also their skinhighlights, whites of their eyes, teeth, insides of handpalms and bottoms of feet etc. (which tend to be a lot paler than the rest of the skin with dark-skinned people)
I see your point. I guess it depends on why you're analyzing or what you're analyzing. I'm a photographer, so I'm thinking, you know, if I'm strictly looking at the person against, say, a like-colored background, how much contrast is in my photo. Or, like Aly was doing, taking that down to a b&w photo, I would get soooo little contrast, really (unless her skin is shiny, her eyes are open and I have lots of "white of the eyes" showing, and she's smiling with her teeth). I'm thinking highest contrast is a very fair-skinned person with exceptionally dark hair and eyes or a dark-skinned person with very light hair and eyes. Striking contrast. But I can understand where you're coming from in terms of clarity of color and fashion or makeup, for instance.
@@aprillittle595 even then, you can't deny very dark skinned people look their best in light colours, and that's the purpose here. This isn't about damn photography.
Certified stylist here, this is very late, but I hope this might help clear this out for other people. The very dark African woman is in fact a -2 in contrast if you’re talking about contrast level. If you put a black and white filter on her picture, you will see that the contrast level is pretty low. However, color theory in styling is more about what colors look best in people and not always about hard facts. The thing is, very dark people like her, look best in contrasting colors, if you actually put her in the -2 category, you would have to use colors that are very similar to her skin tone, and it would be a flattering as a high contrast level color like lime green. It is easier to put her in the +2 area, because you would be using those rules to style her. This is the reason most of the times if not all, people put very dark people in the high contrast level. Hoped this helped, great video Ally!😊
@@khxliakhxlia3605 Yes and no, when it comes to colors and how they interact with different features skin tone plays a major part in it because it would be the main feature. Beige and white is not the same thing as brown and white, it’s not a completely different system, but the rules change. When it comes to darker skin tones it’s not just about contrast; saturation, and color tolerance are also important.
Not necessarily the African woman has more contrast because her skin and eye color is contrasting with the whites in her and it’s very noticeable from a distance whereas those blondes in -2 have light skin and light eyes that blend with the whites which gives them very low contrast. Those woman wouldn’t be able to pull off black because it would overpower them and there’s no depth in they’re features. The only thing those woman share in common is that they’re eye, hair and skin color are the same/similar, but since they’re on opposite sides of skin color it has the opposite effect.
Latin America is complicated due to the extensive admixture of races. Brazil is one of the most extreme examples! I would probably say I am in +1. Love this series so much, Aly!
I think this time you got it wrong.. blonde hair light skin is low contrast dark hair dark skin is low contrast too but if its dark hair light skin or light hair dark skin it'd be high contrast in my opinion
It's more about the depth of your skintone rather than if you have colors that contrast each other. Pale people are in the low range because they are more 'dull' and washed out while black skinned people have more depth and intensity to their color.
Yea I'm kind of confused too. I think part of it is the intensity of the colors. As a photographer, I know high contrast will bring out the intensity of colors, while low contrast will fade colors. The Norwegian woman with pale skin, pale blonde hair and pale blue eyes looked more desaturated. While the African woman with the deep skintone and dark eyes looked much more rich in saturation. At least, that's the gist I'm getting. Again, still a bit confused.
I love that you touched on redheads here, as I find it's not included in many colour analysis videos. I often hear that people with cool complexions shouldn't dye their hair red because they have no warmth in their skin, but at least in the uk, where I'm from, natural redheads often have very cool complexions, so that never made much sense to me. I believe the intensity of the pigment in relation to your natural contrast level is more important, if you are looking to dye your hair red
I’m a redhead with cool undertones (shocked we were touched on in this video!) But I find most color advice doesn’t apply to us anyway.. I can pull off both warm and cool tones, but not all of them. Also, people shouldn’t dye their hair red because it’s nearly impossible to make it look natural (and dying your hair red won’t make you a real redhead!)
@@EllenAFeldman Naturally I have brown hair with a lot of copper reflections in the sun, and I've dyed them in that shade of red, mixing henna...am I a bad person? ;)
Wonderful comment. Was wondering if people realised this. So tough finding credible and useful style and colour information for people of African descent. Still I appreciate Aly for the effort put into this video.
i was confused by this too. Africa has lots of different shades. Northern africans are super light, west africans are medium tone, and east africans are darker. I was confused about why she did all of the countries in europe, (some of which have similar colorings) but just did africa as one country even though its a whole continent
THANK YOU! She should have picked pictures of women from different African countries. Not everyone on the continent looks the same. That’s like saying everyone in Europe looks the same. THE AFRICAN CONTINENT IS NOT A MONOLITH.
@@eyramfiakpui3465 she should have just picked pictures without putting countries name, she is russian i felt like she complimented people who look like her more than the other women anyway she just didn’t need to mention any country but only photos
Fabulous useful information, but also i could cry at how many different types of beauty there is. Its astounding, we are all so special and beautiful and comparison is the worst thing anyone can do, a woman from brazil is her own thing just as a woman from sweden is her own thing. Great work aly!
I'm from Saudi Arabia and yes you nailed it.. she's Saudi her name is Jood Aziz. The information in this video is so well-researched..we truly appreciate your authentic content as well as your effort.. thank u queen
I grew up in the hood (I'm now a suburban woman lol), but every time she calls one of us females "dusty", I can't help but giggle. I'm well aware that she's using it in a different context, but I was surprised nobody else pointed this out.
Me, too! I believe the word Americans would use is, “muted.” Mutedness lack the value judgment of “dusty” and “dull.” Those have negative connotations. Maybe not where she’s from, but where I’m from…especially “dusty.” It’s not being oversensitive that makes some people bristle at being referred to as “dusty!” As you well know, it means being dirty, out of style, unkempt, raggedy, old, broke etc., in the inner city U.S.
I'm Brazilian and I think I'm +2 I have really pale skin, dark hair and blue eyes. It's difficult to talk about "Brazilian features" because it's one of the most diverse countries in the world, there are lots of blond people, dark skinned people and people from countries like Japan too. So, Brazilians can look like they are from Asia, Europe or Africa.
I wish you chose more examples of Africa. There are many countries and very different cultures with different looking people. You chose several examples of Asian and European countries, it would have been nice to see that extended to Africa.
Here we go ofcourse there has to be some victimization of Africa for any video about ethnicities. The reason why there was one or two more European women shown is because Europe has more diversity in their characteristics despite what main stream media says. With Africans there is not much diversity in how they look. By that I mean you typically wouldnt find a red head with green eyes and black hair with blue and over a dozen variations in skin tone. But you have that in Europe no doubt. How much different would it be to compare Zambian with Mozambique or south africa? Could you atleast look at the reason for things objectively and not filter them by your own political agenda. You wanting her to add more African countries when it would not have served the purpose of her video is racist. It's racist because you're showing preferential treatment and are not acknowledging the diversity in other regions you just more black women in the video. But that's how a lot of African Americans think. It's not fascist for them to say "white people" all the time and have their own tv channel. But a video analyzing women all around the world and it not being " black" enough for you is beyond racist
dawn ella27 No offense but I didn’t see any difference with the women from Finland, Sweden or Denmark? It would make sense if she just contrasted North vs South Europe where the difference is obvious, otherwise you yourself are just nitpicking the looks. They look different to you because you are European, but for me they looked, aside from Greece and Italy, very very similar and I would have trouble differentiating their looks. Even France looked similar to me, she just has darker hair. Greece and Italian was the one who truly looked different to me with their Mediterranean/Southern Europe looks. What difference was there? If you want to say Europeans are diverse because of hair and skin color that’s dumb because any European country can have blonde/different color hair and different eye colors, just look at the royal family of Spain. This video isn’t even about different European look because she did it by country, and any European country can have their version of s European look. She would have just called it Europe. No, most Africans don’t look alike ifs just your own perspective that says that. There is definitely a difference between a southern African with Khoisan genes ( lighter skin and a more stereotypical Asian look), to a Guinean ( darker skin more sahelian look), to a Amharic look or even a South Sudanese look. This isn’t even including island countries or historically admixed groups like Tuaregs... She also did separate videos for Asian countries. There are instagram pages where Africans have to guess girls pictures based on countries and most people guess accurately for a reason
dawn ella27 Even-then majority of Europeans are not walking around with different eye color or hair color. It’s just who are elevated the most. If they were then so many wouldn’t be bleaching their hair blonde.
You did all the northern European countries individually and grouped Africa in together....? There are so many people groups within Africa, you could have broken it down a lot more.
In Brazil you can find pretty much every ethnicity. But the majority of woman can be devided into to types of women: one has slightly tan skin + dark hair, and the other has lighter skin (more of a mediterranean look) with dark hair. But barely none of us have light eyes combined to tanned skin. That feature is just related to an exagerated version of "exotic" people that europeans seem to find. No offense, but it's just a cliché, as mentioned earlier in your video 😁 Nice content Aly, as always 👏
@Puppy thank you for asking! 60% of brazilian population see themselves as black people, according to a national population survey. The majority of them also doesn't have light eyes, such as blue. The closest you can find from that specific image would be a slightly lighter shade of brown than average.
Carolina Kobayashi LoL 60 percent of Brazilians don’t see themselves as black, especially in Brazil where people would categorize themselves as anything but black. It’s actually 8 percent that classify themselves as black and then majority categorize themselves as mixed race or white. I don’t know why people try to constantly black wash Brazil. Sure there is a sizeable black population and most slaves went there, but that blood has been diluted for several reasons from miscegenation and forced immigration. Most Brazilians I’ve met I would not classify as black
@@Love25648 I mean "black" as in U.S. standards, but I'm aware that people who have considerably pigmented/dark skin is seen as "actual" black by african culture. By Actual, I mean past the shade 60 by MAC's shade range 🙂

Adela Setara there are cool nudes too, but if you have a lot of contrast, like Aly says, they might wash you out. That’s why I’m excited about this series 😀
Thanks for including redheads! I’m always shocked when people don’t forget about us. I feel like I’m lower contrast than the pictures showed (ignore my profile pic, it’s heavily edited). My eyebrows, eyelashes, lips and eye color are all very light, much like the Scandinavians shown. My hair is the only real contrast. I think most redheads are similar to this,
Yes! I have a warm neutral complexion and very fair and peachy skin, but resembling a tomato on exertion. but my hair is Strawberry. That’s low to medium contrast, but high chroma. I have bright, medium olive with gold eyes with dark olive ring around them. I have been color analyzed as between Bright Spring and Light Spring. However, many color analysis theorists and practitioners say I cannot be Bright Spring, because my hair is light. If there are different types of contrast, maybe I can? I want to know if I can wear those extremely bright colors I love. Confused!
I'm not sure about Brazil. It's not common to see a dark skinned with light eyes here because it's a hard combination. And you choose three almost equal woman and it doesn't represent Brazil because the most part of Brazilians are mixed with a lot of ethnices. We have ancestry from all over the world like native Brazilian, portuguese, African(I don't know the names of the countries because it happened during slavering), Italian, japanese, Lebanese, German. It's common too see woman like the ones that you showed, but it's as common as it to see people completely different.
@@Samanthasosa-i8q it's not her fault so. It's what the media sell: brazilian woman sexualized with a perfect beach tan. They choose the ones that look "exotic" for you to represent Brazil. If I Google it in portuguese it's more realistic, with a lot of ethnices or mixtures.
@@Samanthasosa-i8q it's not hard to fact check on google images. If you click the picture, the title might say her name. It also brings up a bunch of related images underneath that might also say her name.
I’m a Swedish woman (with no other ancestry at all) and I would say I’m a +1 on this scale. As a child I had almost white hair which is very common here, but as an adult I have ashy brown hair, dark eyebrows, darkish green eyes and pale skin. People often comment on how “dark” I look but now I realize what they actually mean is that I have unusually high contrast compared to most Swedish women. Loved this video! ❤️
So did my Swedish grandma. She had what is called a fair olive complexion in U.S. Color Analysis, but was known as a “Black Swede,” in the American Swedish community. She also has some Sami heritage. We have relatives in Kallmanland. 💛🇸🇪
On your "German" board, you had a picture of Verona Pooth who is Bolivian native. The typical German is dark blonde and middle caucasian skin. Kind of like Jennifer Anistons coloration.
That’s what came up when she googled German I would make a complaint to google then. Germans also have great big square jaws and big brow bossing from their Neanderthal dna
I've observed tone and colour for years. I'm a portrait artist and using different undertones and mixing pallets and contrast is fascinating to me. I love how different we all can be 🖤🧡❤

I loved that you created a scale of different types of women and skins. Regardless of whatever country they are from, they cover different kind of coloration so that we can look at what we have to search in ourselves. It would be great if you added more tanned types of skin. Keep up the good work!
Hi, a Spanish woman here! Although I think you're pretty right overall about the Spanish complexion, I'd say that in the northern part of the country there are many 0 to -1 women. An explanation for this is kind of the same as in northern European countries such as Norway or Sweden. Because in provinces such as Galicia, Asturias or the Basque Country (to name a few) is always raining and there isn't so much sun, people in these regions tend to be paler with lighter hair. Al of my dad's family are super pale and we all have blond hair and blue, green or grey eyes. This was such an informative and interesting video, keep it up with the good content!
...or maybe it's because the Northern part of Spain wasn't taken over by the Moors for 800 years. Anyway, love Isabella I of Castile, so of course there's a soft spot for Spain :)
@@ecclesiaxxi6210 those regions not being "invaded" was the official truth during Franco dictatorship. Now, DNA tests and historic researching proved it wrong, or a political lie, to your preference. Galician individuals in a large DNA study kept the highest percentage of north african dna heritage, at the same time we are the spanish region with most blond hair blue/grey eyes rooted people. Studies from University of Santiago de Compostela. How is that possible? Mixing. Mitocondrial dna also shown those phenotypes came from women. And they weren't viking pirates. They were slaves, captured and sold.
@@lafandenuel5605 Sorry, are your saying that the more mixed people are with black/African dna the more blonde blue eyed the mixed people would be? Or that many white women were taken as slaves and the higher mixing with northern European blood means there is more blonde/blue eyes than other regions?
@@ecclesiaxxi6210 The Moors left no genetic impact (plus, most of them were just converted native population), and they only stayed for almost 800 years in the region of Granada. Don't know what the other comment is about, there was an invasion, and yes, there made native women their slaves, but since they invadinng people were so few in comparison with the natives, and because all the offspring of those Christians slaves would adopt the muslim faith of their father, it was actually the muslim community, and not the Christian one, that got really really mixed, to the point that actually most muslims had way more native iberian genetics than north african. They were all thrown out of the country in 1600's, though around a 2000 remained in Spain. They were forced to move weswards, towards Portugal and western Spain. Again, they were still genetically speaking mostly just native iberian, with some but little North African admixture. Results are, Genetics studies are very clear about it, genetics in SPain varies from east to west, being the east region "less mixed", while the western region is "more mixed". There's no much difference notrth-south for obvious regions, southern Spaniards are just Northern Spaniards who migrated to those lands from the North. Period. People from Southern Spain are virtually the exact same people that lives in the North, they literally are originally from Northern Spain. The actual North African admixture in Spaniards is around 5% of the Spanish genetics. It is actually the highest one in Europe, only after Portugal. However, it is worth noticing the the "dates" in which these genetics were introduced in the Peninsula do no coincide with the time of Al-Ándalus (which again, makes sense, because there was religious segregation, it was the muslims who got super mixed due to slavery of Christian women, they were a minority, so their genetics were almost absorbed by the native genetics, most of them were native Christians who had converted to Islan, and they were eventually forced to leave Spain). The North African admixture in Spain comes mostly from 2 historical periods. The first one would be pre-roman, and most specialists point to the Phoenitian Empire, since, though it was originally from the Middle East, had a lot of settlements in Northern Africa, and there was a lot of trade between those settlements and the Peninsula. Other point out that it could be from the Cathagenian Empire, that it could have been from an early and small North African group that had arrived to the Peninsula and mixed with the Iberian tribes, and some other point out that it could have actually arrived in the early stages of the Roman Empire (a theory that I find pretty logical, tbh). The second wave of North African genes into the Iberian Peninsula dates back to 1700's which was the moment when slave market what at its peack, so I think we can confirm that some of the North African ancestry in Spaniards comes from free slaves of the 18th century.

You got it wrong, the Malaysian example is mid contrast and the African is low contrast....contrast is not based on the overall lightness or darkness of ones’ coloration but on the general or overall difference in the lightness and darkness of one’s general coloration.... The African example has dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes ~ low contrast since there is not much difference in the colors, the white of the eyes occupies so little space to be the determining factor....The malaysian lady has tan/olive skin, dark eyes, and muted black hair - that’s mieium contrast..... even the Indian examples are medium contrast etc......snow white is what is considered high contrast....
I worked for a cosmetic company in the late 1980's which was created by an artist. It was based on similar color theory - that the most important factor in picking cosmetic & clothing colors was based on contrast (light, dark, cool, warm, neutral, and vivid) along with tone (yellow, peach, tan, blue). It was a hard sell, only lasted a few years, but made so much sense to me!

Its hard to put brazil in this scale bc you can literally put us from -2 to +2 :) Also I love your videos :) A big hug from Brazil :3
This video was extremely helpful in regards to determining one’s own contrast level. I also like how you approached the different heritages’ respective common contrast levels
Brazil is crazy to track in these kind of studies. I'm a brazilian and here you can find all types of colors in the whole world, from -2 to +2. My sister is blond, cold skin and blue eyes, I'm warm skin and brown eyes with a golden brown hair, my cousin is definitely the the type of brazilian color you chose to portrait in the video. Such an amazing mix we are. Love the video!
This is helpful, even though I'm already familiar to CONTRAST! :) I have a hard time understanding the concept of chroma (brightness/dullness), though. A video on the topic of CHROMA would be very interesting!
Aly Art Thank you, Aly! 💜 BTW, the girl from Germany is an influencer who has Turkish roots. I think the young brunette Heidi Klum is a perfect representation of German women. 😊 And the Pakistani/Indian women with lighter features have, indeed, Afghan (Pashtun) ancestry.
Everytime you make videos like this I have to watch it more than once to grasp the concept fully very educational and you made an honest attempt to show a large spectrum of women
Yes I know africa is not country - I was searching for different places and found those 3 pics from africa that I decided to show - all 3 have different looks. And all those norway and iceland - that's what google showed me ))
believe me, even in small countries like the ones you mentionned, there are many skin colours and contrasts. for ex. all Finns aren't alike, like my daughter and me ... it's not a question of nationality, more like ethnicity. but there you tread on dangerous ground ...
Yes, the girl is from Saudi Arabia her name is Jood Aziz. It was really lovely to see my country represented in one of your videos. Love from Riyadh :)
This was so cool! Beauty is so unique and so different from each person, and there’s so much of it in the world!!! That’s one thing Aly has taught me that I’m so thankful for. ❤️
These videos are SO HELPFUL for understanding these (sometimes complicated) concepts. I love them! Thank you so much. Happy to have found you! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I've lived in ireland for most of my life. I know 2 people with red hair. Typical colouring for irish people would be dark brown hair, light skin and blue eyes.
A reason for the difficulty in categorizing some women is that we are projecting two dimensions - clear/mute of a color tone, contrast difference between colors - into one dimension. If we use a matrix to denote these ladies, things would be a lot clearer. Love your video and look forward to watching more :)
An interesting study (must have taken forever.) Growing up and living in an area where there are many nationalities, it is impossible to know what the original genetic origin might have been. I will say that I was shocked to realize (from a magazine photo) that there are actually people with white (as a piece of paper) and black (as ink) skin. My observation is that people with the whitest skin generally have that flaming red hair. The other type of red head is the auburn type which usually has peach to golden skin, very black eyes and freckles. They actually identified the gene number for this. Someday they may prove your chart with the genetic info as well.
waaaaaah I'm so happy that you mentioned Scotland! I am a Scottish redhead with hazel eyes, I am quite pale-skinned but I learned from your videos about my warm undertones and it has totally changed the way I style my makeup and outfits! But yes in Scotland we have the largest amount of redheads in the world apparently. I also learned from your Kibbe videos to appreciate my softness so much more (I think I am theatrical romantic but I'm also still confused as hell) and instead of being sad at my lack of angular features I see now that my softness is my greatest asset. I look exactly how I am supposed to. I love the way that you show love to all of the colourations and body types. Basically I am new to your channel and so freakin glad I found you!! (also you're gorgeous) x
I'm half german and half iranian, and i have light skin, black hair and light brown eyes. So I'm basically the complete mix of both ethnicities. I always wished I had those very dark brown eyes though because I love the contrast so much :( I'm jealous of all of you who have those eyes lol
And mix is the future of humanity. Now we can move in hours from one corner of the planet to the other. Our appareance will be the millions of results of combinations of gens of the couples who decide to have a baby.
It's only now that I feel better about my own dark eyes. I'm half Chinese and half White, so pale with almost black eyes and super dark hair. Used to get bullied for it.
Mortuus Cerebri No one else looks like you, and I bet a lot of people were mad about that because they secretly wish they looked as unique as you. Bullying is about own deficiencies! Your combo is beautiful!! :)
I appreciate how you heighten our awareness to the infinite characteristics that combine to form beauty in ALL women and all people. It is obvious you see beauty in each and every individual🌹and seek to assist us in enhancing our own inner & outer beauty by sharing your gorgeous, ever curious, artistisan's perception. I adore your content!!
I'm from Sweden too and maybe you have that perception because you have nothing to compare it to. Blonds are defenetly in the majority and you notice that when you go to other countries like Italy where the majority is brunette.
@@thorathor7975 Because I have nothing to compare it to? I've lived in Sweden my whole life and I've been to other countries too. There are more blondes in Sweden, but not by much. Many brunettes dye their hair lighter as well.
You made all women feels beautiful for they are including me♥️Thanks, Aly. Love from Cambodia( a very small country in Southeast Asia but with a rich culture)♥️
This video is a good lesson about natural state. Tanning or bleaching skin is not just unhealthy, it does no good. Your skin and contrast is best as it is. Ugly contrast does not exist. I do not agree fully with the video. Yet, Aly did a great job about respecting yourself and your natural visage. Thank you.
I’m from Algeria, I think Mediterranean countries have mostly this kind if beauty of dark hair and lighter skin. I found out that i’m somewhere between +1 and +2. Thank you ❤
As a woman from Sweden, I can certainly say that of course there's less blonde people than what people think... but still more than you see outside of Scandinavia. We also have a different view on what's blonde and brunette. In Sweden a slightly darker dirty blonde or ash blonde is viewed as brown, while in other countries it's still counts of a darker shade of blonde... and because Swedish women often have very fine and ash blonde-ish hair (from a southern Europe point of view), bleaching your hair to a platinum blonde is not an issue at all.
Sofia Erlandsson I agree. I’m a slightly strawberry blonde Swedish and Finish. I think the most of Swedes got brown hair and the other blonde I know bleach their hair. Most of us got lighter eye colours.
I think there are fewer really, really blondes than most people imagine. Many Swedes have dark blond and some kind of brown hair, lighter to darker. Some kind of blue eyes, quite often with a greyish tone to them, Note - it is possible to have clear blue-grey ayes, they don't have to look dull. I myself have medium ash brown hair, each strand is medium ash brown but the overall impression is quite dark, quite intense somewhat dark greay-blue eyes, with a dark rim in the same colour, contrasting the iris from the sclera (the white of the eye), depending of the quality of the natural light they can look more or less blue, but never looking dull grey, my skin is light with a cool undertone but not blue or grey, but fresh and pinkish, my face has som more colour to it looking fresh and healthy with a pink-rose-red tone. All in all my coloration is quite strong without beeing really dark. In tests including pictures of my face I am most of the times categorized as Cool Winter, a few cool summer, a few clear winter, a few dark winter (!)
I'm Brazilian with very pale skin and dark eyes and hair, so I guess I'd be on the +2 spot. I used to dislike having dark hair with white skin, but one time when I was around 15 years old one of my friends complimented me on the contrast between my skin, hair and eyes. I've appreciated it ever since. :)
Scotland!!!!! 🏴🏴🏴 I have chestnut red hair and pale (but slightly warm leaning) skin and some freckles in the summer. Love that you didn’t leave out the redheads!
I'm Turkish, my natural hair colour is an ashy light brown but I dye it black just because it goes well with my green eyes and pale skin, therefore, I really believe contrast makes a huge difference in appearance.
I'm a Finn and have some Slavic & Swedish/Norwegian roots and this is pretty accurate! And the beautiful example of a Finn here is Anna-Sofia Ali-Sisto, a model. Looks incredible
I think a key component in contrast is hue (I think that's the right word). For example, if you put red and green next to each other, there's a lot of contrast. But if you make it black and white, they could look like the same color (aka low contrast). So while black and white is useful for determining one type of contrast (light to dark), it says nothing about color contrast (between different hues).
Glad to know that even she had trouble "categorizing" women similar to me. I have penny colored hair (reddish/light brown...depends on how light hits it),very pale skin with a cool undertone (blue veins) and dark blue/true blue eyes. When I take a quiz it has me similar to people like Zoe Deschanel which I know isn't correct. I'm probably a mix between the German girl and the Scottish girl.
I love this series! I for one love to look dusty and low in contrast when I edit my photos. I like that one tone look yet color contrasted in terms of eye color to skin color. Light eyes, medium skin DARK hair, then lowering the contrast to make the entire image dusted is my favorite aesthetic. It makes me look unrealistic and doll like.
Almost two thirds of the way into this video, I wondered why there were still no women featured from the most melanin concentrated places i.e. West Indian, African, etc. countries. Then I saw all these women were lumped into one - the ‘country’ of Africa. Sigh. FYI Egypt and Morocco are also in Africa, I see they’ve been categorised separately from their continent. I wonder why? If your personal interest is in the contrast of European women (the focus of the majority of your analysis), it’s not a problem - just focus on that. But if you want to include women from everywhere, it makes sense to give the same proportion of analysis to women from different countries across the continents. It comes across as a token gesture when you lump all African women in one category - women who’s contrasts widely vary from country to country across the continent, and also within an individual country.
That’s because Africans in the last video we’re crying about her not including them. If someone doesn’t use use right off the back that should tell you enough and not whine about it. Her diversity for us is forced and lol at selecting Morocco away from Africa
Ant rip if Morocco is selected away from Africa just like Egypt it’s because they are more Arabian looking, just like almost every sub-saharian countries
E. S. - It is designed to be a "token" illustration. The purpose of the video is not to represent women from all countries, but just to give a few examples from a few countries. The lesson is about contrast, NOT about the variety within each continent or within each country. You are missing the point in your eagerness to find fault.
Thank you so much for your video. I am French and also have some Irish therefore my hair is dark brown, with some auburn highlights, and my eyes and brows very dark. I know now that I am +1 contrast. You explain so well thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I'm from the UK (mix of Scottish and English). I'm probably either a 0 or +1 in contrast. I have similar colouring to Kelly Macdonald, the ginger you put at 0, but I have more contrast. My skin is pale, but my hair is brown with some red in it. My eyebrows are on the darker side, my eyes are medium brown with some gold, and my lips are naturally rosy.
They are european beauty mostly of the time
Thank you for that!

Meanwhile Instagram shows us bunch of women who look very much the same, Aly teach us about all the types of faces, bodies, skin color etc out there ❤️
And most important that they are all unique and beautiful 🤗
Thank you! Agree - unique and beautiful ))
Super agree
Yes! I was getting sooooo bored. A top notch influencer just posted a video that, has the exact same content as 8 years ago, when she started. I have found some more interesting vlogs lately though.
❤❤❤
I could be wrong, though!
So basically they're low contrast but the color theories don't apply to our actual tones so we must place it in another category for it to work?
@@khxliakhxlia3605 Yes and no, when it comes to colors and how they interact with different features skin tone plays a major part in it because it would be the main feature. Beige and white is not the same thing as brown and white, it’s not a completely different system, but the rules change.
When it comes to darker skin tones it’s not just about contrast; saturation, and color tolerance are also important.
@@cocoastyling You & AlyArt should do a collab video for your channels!
😊
Latin America is complicated due to the extensive admixture of races. Brazil is one of the most extreme examples! I would probably say I am in +1. Love this series so much, Aly!
Oh cool! Yes at some places there's a lot of mix! But I love it - it makes it even more interesting! Thank you!

I am green like I am not joking. My skin has very blue veins and redness in a very greenish base it’s confusing as heck!
I think this time you got it wrong..
blonde hair light skin is low contrast
dark hair dark skin is low contrast too
but if its dark hair light skin or light hair dark skin it'd be high contrast in my opinion
Finally someone who makes sense
It's more about the depth of your skintone rather than if you have colors that contrast each other. Pale people are in the low range because they are more 'dull' and washed out while black skinned people have more depth and intensity to their color.
As explained in another of Aly's videos, the contrast is the whites of the eyes in those ladies.
Teeth. Eyes. Whitest highlights ever
i think this is the first person i've heard describe skin tones as "dusty" and "ashy" in a positive way
And "grey" and "dull"
I can't wait to see the styling recommendations you've got for each level of contrast. This video is a great introduction to the subject!
Thank you ))
Yes, please! Styling tips for all different contrasts would be amazing😊
Hi, redhead with freezingly cool skin here. Fuschia looks great on me :)

Lovely video. One thought: Africa is actually 55 different countries with lots of variation in skin color and contrast, not just one big country.
Wonderful comment. Was wondering if people realised this. So tough finding credible and useful style and colour information for people of African descent. Still I appreciate Aly for the effort put into this video.
Yeah that was disappointing
i was confused by this too. Africa has lots of different shades. Northern africans are super light, west africans are medium tone, and east africans are darker. I was confused about why she did all of the countries in europe, (some of which have similar colorings) but just did africa as one country even though its a whole continent

I grew up in the hood (I'm now a suburban woman lol), but every time she calls one of us females "dusty", I can't help but giggle. I'm well aware that she's using it in a different context, but I was surprised nobody else pointed this out.
Same! Loved the video but my hubby and I hella laughed everytime she said someone was dusty😆

Aphro I agree, and also Caribbean and Native women
100% agree!!!
😘😘😘😘
Agree, especially Denmark, Sweden and Finland lol they all look literally the same! Same coloring
Cool! Interesting!

Lately, I ended up buying the wrong make-up because I didn't know, if I was bright or muted. 😔
I bought cool and dusty eyeshadows and a cool and dusty lipstick because I'm deep winter, BUT I look absolutely washed out and tired with that make-up... 😩
I guess I have to be bright then?! I don't know why Im surprised - because I look awesome in bright fuchsia and vibrant pink! 🙊
Adela Setara Struggle of my life...being warm and bright, I think, I can’t wear any nude make-up although I love it on other people😀

So you mean, the reason I can't wear nude is because I'm bright? 🤗😵
I thought it's because nude is a warm color...
Adela Setara there are cool nudes too, but if you have a lot of contrast, like Aly says, they might wash you out. That’s why I’m excited about this series 😀
As a swede I can confirm. 60% of my friendgroup are blonde with blue eyes and pale skin
I think most redheads are similar to this,
Which makes me think we are almost between -2 and -1. You’re a genius btw, Aly!!! I just found your videos about a month ago.
Thank you so much! ))) Wow cool!
Your hair is ah May zeeng!!!

I’m a Swedish woman (with no other ancestry at all) and I would say I’m a +1 on this scale. As a child I had almost white hair which is very common here, but as an adult I have ashy brown hair, dark eyebrows, darkish green eyes and pale skin.
There is no difference between northern and southern Spaniards. Not at all.

I am danish with dark brown hair. A lot of vikings had brown hair

It would be cool to have some countries from Africa (Senegal for example) instead of having it all lumped together, however the video was great 😊
she put morocco
Glad to know that even she had trouble "categorizing" women similar to me. I have penny colored hair (reddish/light brown...depends on how light hits it),very pale skin with a cool undertone (blue veins) and dark blue/true blue eyes. When I take a quiz it has me similar to people like Zoe Deschanel which I know isn't correct. I'm probably a mix between the German girl and the Scottish girl.
Cool to see Finland represented :)
I love Finland. Your milk products didn't give me cough ))) ahahahah The food in general was very good quality.
Then I'm 100% sure you loved watching "Confessions of a shopaholic"
E. S. Plus she used gorgeous European women and average non-European women as models 🙄
@@imnogood5016 Not arabian looking, but north african. Our looks is basically north african, we look amazigh.
You explain so well thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Very interesting. Could you do de scribe how to pair clothing with contrast of colors on our body ?
I'm from the UK (mix of Scottish and English). I'm probably either a 0 or +1 in contrast. I have similar colouring to Kelly Macdonald, the ginger you put at 0, but I have more contrast. My skin is pale, but my hair is brown with some red in it. My eyebrows are on the darker side, my eyes are medium brown with some gold, and my lips are naturally rosy.
