  • The regulator controls the amount of pressure leaving your air compressor tank. Thanks to long-term wear and tear, you will eventually need to replace the regulator on your compressor. This video will show you how to perform that repair.
Helpful items include a screwdriver, socket wrench, and a wrench.

This was a very well done video. It was clear to see, the guy kept his hands out of the way and he spoke loud enough for anyone to hear. His English was very good and this is the type of videos that should be made for any type of repair. GREAT JOB!

Great video, my Dewalt regulator came apart and went back together exactly as described and is now working perfectly. I appreciated the clear audio and bright lighting that was used in filming. Keep up the good work.

Great info. Did not help me diagnosis my problem but gave me the confidence to disassemble the unit and determine that the square threaded cylinder with a C-clip was the culprit. The hexagonal nut threads up the square threaded portion stripped out. I will post a reply video shortly if someone else has this same issue. Thank you for the video.

I have a Craftsman air compressor that looks very similar in design to this Porter Cable. The regulator is leaking and needs replacing. Glad I saw this so now I know what I'll be getting into. Looks very easy. Thanks!

Great video! I just bought my Bosch compressor last summer and the regulator is already acting up and won't hold pressure. The knob looks very similar as yours. Mine is supposed to "lock" the pressure by pushing in on the knob. Thanks much!

Hello, thanks for the video. I have a Porter Cable and just replaced the pressure switch. It was not the original switch. Now my regulator does not keep the pressure down at what it is set at, but allows the pressure higher. I can hear the air hissing out of it. The switch goes up to about 140 psi then turns off. Any ideas what the problem is? It never did this before.

When storing a compressor for an expended length of time, should you keep it pressurized or unpressurized?

Where can I find that exact rebuilt kit?!? Those are the parts I need. I've looked all over your website and can't seem to find any rebuild kits let alone that particular one. Thanks.

The regulator repair kit is part number N008792 on our website.

The cost of a parts kit is more than a brand new regulator! What gives? Do you guys negotiate on pricing? If not then I guess my old regulator will end up in my metal scrap pile. Who buys this overpriced nonsense?

hey I just ordered a replacement manifold from you guys, but i was wondering, could i link two compressors together if i had a hose with two male connectors on each end and i just ran the auxiliary compressor to the compressor with two outlets then ran my air tool off the other outlet on the same compressor shouldn't that feed the one air tool two tanks of pressure? allowing both compressors to power one tool?

Hi Adam, thanks for your question. I would recommend you contact a repair shop in your area about this question. Although we have heard of this being done, it is probably a good idea to discuss it with someone in your area, so you can do it safely and effectively. Good luck with your repair!

MARK - I followed your instructions on the video for my Porta Cable Air Compressor, N008792. MY Model # is CPF 23400S-2 4 gal.
Now assembled and running BUT the regulator knob does not adjust the air pressure on the tool side. You did not show the post in the video. You left it inside the plastic piece. Where should the adjuster nut on the post be positioned for the assembly. I tried all the way to the bottom of the post and half way up the threads but neither of these positions allow any air to be released to adjust the psi going to the tool. The tank guage reads 35 psi and the tool side reads 145 psi when the automatic shut off turns off the compressor. I can turn the regulator all the way in to a very tight and all the way out to zero pressure on the regulator knob spring with absolutely no regulating happening. HELP

This sounds like the Regulator is sticking. Some of the Porter Cable and Dewalt models have a rebuild kit available. Yours is only showing a new regulator part number D27253.

Does this apply to. Craftsman as well?

    • @MothRetra
      @MothRetra 8 років тому

+Ray Riley It may very well apply. I checked my Craftsman 26-gal. compressor's manual and its Parts List shows the same part number (i.e. N008792) for the regulator repair kit.

MY Porter Cable regulator is different and seems to be missing parts, which, I say 'seems' because although I do not remember it having any other parts than the ones I now have, it is shown in a diagram to have other parts than I have, and I am at a complete loss as to where these parts would go or how to mount them, but at is sits, right now, this one can not hold air because it has a little vent in the center of the piston which vents out into the open air.
My original did not leak until the hard plastic piston broke on it, and at this moment, I can not find the original to see if it has a vent in it to compare, because I moved it and now do not know where I put it.

Mine is like this guy's [internally] where the parts are leaking.
I think I shall try what he did, it makes sense, but first, I am just going to glue the hole shut to stop the leaking.
If It breaks like the original did, I will try the screws and washers like he did.

Just too bad I did not see this guy's video BEFORE wasting 20$ on another plastic disk!

Hello, on the compressor shown in the video, you are able to obtain a regulator repair kit. On the Porter Cable C2002 Type 7, there is no repair kit available. You would have to order the complete Manifold Assembly part number N082939SV.
