This confirms my suspicion that big brand golf clubs are marked up around 2.5x what they should normally cost if you cut out the pro-shop, the sponsorships, marketing and probably greed. These guys on temu are definitely profiting at this price and so are direct to consumer brands which are doing their own R&D. Go get yourself fitted at a local fitter for a fee, get your numbers and buy online unless you want most of the money you spend going directly in the pockets of people who had nothing to do with making the clubs you're buying.

They do this knowing that people are going to buy the clubs because “it’s what the pros use.” If people would stop buying clubs at ridiculous prices, the price would go down. It’s why we’ve seen the rise of direct to consumer clubs.

TBH just change the shaft and grip still would be cheaper, Simon I challenge you to change the shaft and grip and then see the results

I wonder what the results would be if you put that hazardous shaft in the Temu club? 🤔

Not knowing a lot about the golf industry, could I ask a question? Do the brand names make their own equipment, or do they just design and specify and have the stuff made by mega-manufacturing plants in the Far East, as happens in other sports? Cycling, which I do know something about, does this and I'd bet it happens in other sports. The vast majority of bicycle frames sold worldwide are made in half a dozen or so factories. A few of the most expensive/high-end frames from a brand's range may be made in-house, but the vast majority are not. They are turned out by one of the mega-factories and the brand decals are applied. A lot of components, fittings and fixtures - gearing/drive train, brakes, wheels, etc - are supplied by third party firms (Shimano, SRAM, Campagnolo et al ). You can buy two bikes of very similar quality, with equivalent levels of equipment, for different prices according to the desirability/cachet of the brand/badge. There may be little to separate them from a quality perspective, but you will pay more for one than the other because of the name on the frame. Does a similar situation exist in golf?

Just like most luxury items they aren't worth the money. Middle class people just want to be seen with expensive items to try and show wealth. High end golf clubs are atleast 60 percent over priced. I worked in the golf industry for years and got to see out the door costs to the manufactuers. A odyssey 2ball for example costs callaway $25 bucks. They then sold it to retailers for $210 and sold to consumers for $300. Aslong as consumers are ok being scammed in plain sight it will continue to get worse.

I've a set of Forged Calong irons, wedge set and putter.
They are excellent. Presumably coming out of the same factory in China where 90% of the world's clubs are made.
Would I buy again?... YOU BETCHA!

Hence the problem! Its easy to take an original, take it apart, data scan it. Then model and tool a close version. Then sell it cheap. The Chinese are experts at it! They'll never design an original. No money in it.

That's simply not true. PGM is a local Chinese brand. However, so is Honma and Wilson whom are both completely owned subsidiaries. What you don't understand is China literally does everything all at once. They have premier brands like Wilson. They also have these weird sub-brands like what SAS is testing here. They also have straight copies as well as utter garbage made with cheap plastic.
So, yes, China will innovate and make new advanced clubs. Everyone agrees Wilson is back in the game for example. They will also make what's being reviewed AND they will also make utter and complete trash so Americans will go online and complain ad nauseum about the cheap garbage they bought.

@@staplez1055 I'm generalizing, look at all the lawsuits they have/had against copyright/plagiarism. Automotive and products etc.
Now specifically look at the two club designs. Features and details have been tweaked and remade.

    • @staplez1055
      @staplez1055 3 години тому

@@terryread7347yeah but your generalization is wrong. They do everything all at once. So they'll have the most lawsuits for IP as well as the most scientific patents. You simply don't understand the scale of what they do.

The question I always ask tho'..
How long does it last before it implodes on itself?
Inferior product is all well and good, but if it dies after 15 holes, it isn't so much of a bargain, is it ...🤔
How's your stamina? Fancy testing it to destruction? 🫣
