I learned fixed-wing RC flying with the Apprentice 1.5 and SAFE, but worked to get myself off of SAFE fairly quickly. The Blade 230S was my entry into heli and I have to say that SAFE will be used more often due to the heli flying is just not as instinctive for me. I'm one of the few people in my club that flies a heli, so to them I look like a pro with SAFE. 😉
Nice flying, you’re like me,I don’t care about flying 3d,I also have 3 of the blade 70s,good for learning how to hover, and practice with,I’m basically building a brand new one from scratch, all I have left to get is the little control board, fun little heli to build.
Yeah they are fun, I have considered doing a "pimped" one with all the aluminum parts, until I added up what all the aluminum parts come to, and then decided that would be way to expensive for a small heli like that :)
I did some rc heli flying back in 2013-2014 and was stupid enough to buy a 450 size to start with... Bought 3 and crashed and fully destroyed alle 3. Now that i see this i might pick flying up again with this safe mode...
Safe mode really does make it easy. But before you do, watch this video where I explain it a bit better with a flying video of how it works. ua-cam.com/video/cGjkLL6DKts/v-deo.html
I have a blade 330s crashed it once and it’s never been the same. Bought all new parts level the swatch plate leveled my blades and the thing can barely fly. So now I fly airplanes and enjoy it so much more
Yeah crashing is never fun, and having a Heli not flying right after a crash repair can be very frustrating, time consuming and sometimes costs quite a bit if you are inexperienced in diagnosing problems. Depending on symptoms after your repairs it could be a number things that are not right, including internal damage to the gyro/receiver. I once dropped a Flybarless unit while installing it into a Heli, it would never fly right, I replaced it and everything was fine. Turns out gyro's done like being dropped :P
I think i will buy one for Christmas I am a beginner I have a t rex 450 dominator 6s but it is way too fast for me this heli might be a good choice already practicing with a pc simulator it really helps
The 230S V2 is the best they ever released. The new SMART is not suitable for beginners. The V2 ESC supports BL-Heli Firmware and softstart can be enabled. And it will work in scale models with multiblade main rotors, Fenestron tail and even NOTAR tail. The only comparable machine is: Blade 150S.
i have an intermittent problem on this machine - sometimes the tail spins for like 180 degrees without input, as if the tail motor doesnt get enough power, but then works fine after 2-3 seconds and catches itself (independent on flight mode, battery is normal, both motors warm). couldnt find anything on the interweb. please help. thx
This almost sounds like the gyro loses it's orientation for a second then catches itself. The problem with this is that if you want to diagnose it you will have to start replacing parts until you find the culprit. Could be worth while to see if you recalibrate the gyro/esc and see if that works. Also maybe see if you can find something on the Blade website, maybe contact support and see what they say.
Hey man. You are just flying beyond the flight envelope of the Blade. I have re created this many times. Just make sure everything is plugged in and don’t be so aggressive with the collective. I can fly nearly full 3D with know issues so long as I’m careful. I have a ton of hours on this thing trust me you’ll be fine
@@BB-tq6ro ok. thx, but it occurs in a normal hover or just flying around. wires are ok. last 6 six flight were ok. batteries are a bit worn, will test a fresh one.
It's a good Heli, got 2 but , going to smart with its own battery & charger was far from smart. The new 21st Century technology left it antiquated quickly & ppl are moving on to better quality and direct drive for about the same price.
The "Smart" does not reference a model, it is the "Smart" technology that Spektrum uses in their TX/RX. The "Smart" technology will allow the Pilot to use their "Safe" mode in order to learn the basics of flying Heli's. As far as I know, if you buy a 230S V2 it will have the "Smart" technology by default.
If they both has "Smart" labeled then yes, that is what my understanding is from the www.bladehelis.com website. If you buy a 230S V2 new, it should have the smart technology in it. I also found this thread that explains that the difference is the electronics, it seem the "Smart" electronics are in the new models. www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?3858727-Difference-between-Blade-230-s-V2-or-230-s-Smart CAUTION: This does not mean that your local hobby store will sell you what you see on the Blade website. They might have older stock still on the shelves which means you could get a V2 that does not have the "Smart" technology. So make sure that what you buy is definitely a V2 with smart.
Wow….I think this thing is so overrated. The plastic frame is the deal breaker for me. It is underpowered as well. If you haven’t yet tried the Blade 150 I suggest you do. That to me is their best all around heli and bang for your buck. Much better power to weight ratio, carbon fiber frame, just much better durability. I’m selling mine with a ton of parts. I hope a lot of people out there feel the way some of you do, should sell no prob. Also try an OMP and you won’t look back at this. Final word of advice. If you want to really learn to fly you have to stop relying on safe and as you said use it for a bailout only. I wish I would have stopped relying on it earlier.. Made my learning curve longer and just held me back but everyone’s different. I personally got into helis for the challenge. Now it’s time for flips and rolls and inverted flight. For that a sim is almost a necessity. I might try some light 3D but not smack, looks like an insect on speed to me and not remotely like a helicopter. Happy flying.
underpowered? I can make mine slap with some of the best you gotta get your own reciever instead of the RTF one and dial it in. Then, you can see what it can do. The plastic frame is that way for a reason, much cheaper when a noob crashes. It's not designed for advanced pilots. I am an advanced pilot but it nice to fly something that isn't costing me a thousand bucks WHEN I do crash it. Crashing is just part of RC life, much more so for beginners. When you fly 3D, It stays that way through the course.

I’d say it’s still ver much worth it. Great flying 👍

The your gyro is bad ask for an exchange from horizon. Last effort you may try change the tail motor for a new one. Lmk
