  • I made some not-so-great purchases last year, some of them I completely regret, others were just a matter of timing and preparation. Today I want to reflect.

    #3 The Airstream
    #4 The Dyson Light
    #5 The Dyson Straightener
    #6 Furniture for my house
All in all- I've learned a LOT from these purchases, and I truly believe 2021 will be the year that I spend a lot less money and have very few purchases I regret. A few take aways from this video: traveling to escape as a quick fix and doing it too frequently creates a wasteful and meaningless lifestyle. Material things don't matter, experiences are always a much better way to spend your money. Buying GREAT quality products is worth it, but don't but things you just WANT, make sure you NEED them. Lastly, have more PATIENCE! A lot of these purchases wouldn't have happened if I would've just had a lot more patience.

Maybe your could fix the RV and place it next to the Palm Spring house, put it on AirBnB (share the garden or a part of it..)??

Another lesson- know the return policy of all the stuff you’re buying. I’m just confused why you didn’t just return the Dyson light or any of the furniture? Most places have something like a 30-60 day return policy where you can get all your money back if you’re not happy with it.

Isn't the Airstream a good investment just in terms of UA-cam content ? I mean these videos are pretty popular. Is has to be said though, not everything worth having or doing, necessarily has to be good value or add money to your bank account in the long run. Money should enable you, not control you.

You should make the airstream into a bar for the Palm Springs house! Like it would be awesome for coachella season to have a fun photo op, and a place to serve drinks and stuff! You could even rent it out for weddings and events.

Why not just pay to fix up the airstream . I mean you paid all this money to fix up the palm spring home. A couple contractors would get the air stream fixed up in few days.

We recently bought an Airstream and are in the same situation! Not just a 💵 pit, but a time pit! We are realizing the only way to make it worth it is to look for some land with a view and Airbnb it. Makes complete sense to finish your other Airbnb project first👍 Keep up the awesome work!

Just wanted to share that I bet you’d get your money back on your airstream! My in-laws made $15k selling their airstream a couple months ago. There just aren’t enough airstreams out there anymore for the demand. They had one of the smaller ones so you’d make more on yours.

Once you finish the airstream, you’re going to love it. Any major renovation is a money pit. I had one years ago that I renovated and I loved taking it to national parks and waking up by a lake in a quiet forest. It’s great for beach camping too. It is a lot of work getting it done though. Keep going. You will love it.

On the Airstream, if you dont want to spend money fixing it up as a camper and you got room outside your house, Id recommend you build it into a small office or work room, or just a nice chillout space, it wont diminish the value of the Airstream and if you just build interior walls and fit it with furnitures it shouldnt be to much of a cost since you wont need to focus on amenities and any future rebuilds wont need an excessive amount of work which will be a good selling point if you wish to sell it.

I was really hoping you were going to do this video again this year! I have to say, I think it says a lot about you and your personal growth that your "worst" purchases this past year are much more practical than the things you covered in 2019, which if I remember correctly, were a lot more materialistic (bags/shoes?). Those things are not bad, it just definitely shows your financial maturity as a person in my opinion. Yes, a lot of the things you bought last year and may have regretted were very expensive, but you bought them for practical reasons and not just because they looked cute. I dunno, just my thoughts 🙂

For each house sold in 2021 put 20% or some amount of your income away for the airstream then you can do small things at a time.... Luckily Dad Church is not charging you rent for the space and they do not seem to be pushing you to get it off their property...

In my opinion I think the worst purchase is buying a house without checking the problems that had. Because spending more money to fix it. The second worst purchase will be air stream. The rest worst is not bad purchases.

Your Airstream purchase is how I found your UA-cam channel. You might be happy to see what people are getting when they sell their renovated Airstream, especially since, in your case, they would know exactly what you've done to improve (not just slap a coat of paint on it). It'll be nice to see it being worked on again. I've been interested in your Palm Springs house and how you're transforming it into a BNB. It would be nice to see a lot of 'before and after' shots to show all of the improvements that have been made after it's been completed. Congratulations on you becoming a realtor!!! Keep up the good life choices.

For items like the Dyson straightener, or like kitchen items like pots, blenders, knives I'll buy a mid-range item first and then buy the high-end version of it if I'm using it all the time or the cheaper version breaks because I know I'll actually be using it and taking advantage of the nicer quality. Also looking at it as how much it costs in terms of $/use for things like skis or a ski pass and keep in mind what I could sell it for if I'm ready to replace it or don't like it.

  • @Deadwrongallalong

I love this type of video on your channel! Personally, my thoughts on your list are:
    1. I like hearing your reflection on this trip. Honestly, in your vlogs (which I watched at the time) the trip didn’t seem like you enjoyed it.
    2. The Maserati thing doesn’t seem like a huge loss IMO. Not saying you’re wrong to regret it or think of it as a bad purchase, but from my perspective it didn’t totally go to waste bc you still got something out of it: a UA-cam video and the luxury car experience. And hey, you realized that expensive material stuff like that isn’t that important to you, and you “only” spent $300 instead of buying something way more expensive just on a whim.
    3. I can see why you’d put the airstream on this list, but I’d respectfully disagree. I live in Canada and my dad has taken on total boat restorations similar to your airstream renovation, and the whole process of fixing something up to your liking isn’t a small undertaking. And maybe you didn’t realize that at the time. In his experience it has taken years to get a project done, simply based on the fact that you can’t work on it year round, like you said. BUT where I disagree is when he up thinking about making money, listing it on Airbnb, etc. If you out time, money and effort into a project like this and you do eventually want to sell it, there is nothing wrong with wanting to make your money back. But why does that have to be the main priority? Why not turn it into something you will enjoy using, just for the sake of fun? That’s how my dad does his boat projects and I think it’s a practical way to take on a restoration job like your airstream. And not to trivialize your thoughts on it, but the approximately $10,000 (correct me if I’m wrong) you put into the trailer seems to be a relatively small percentage of your income, so in a way, it was a relatively more affordable way to learn about a project like that.
    4. The Dyson stuff. Can’t really disagree with you on those lol cool stuff to learn more about, but I don’t think you got your money’s worth
    5. I agree, both you and Shelby jumped the gun with buying furniture for the Palm Springs house. Ultimately I think you can make it work, and it will be a huge learning experience should you guys attempt a similar project in the future
I’m a longtime viewer who never comments, and I hope my working middle class experience can give you some perspective on the content on this video 💕

Since you have such a vast history on youtube like Just like That, flipping out, the twin channel, going on GMA, the podcast, having purple hair be your brand, DIYs, scripted content- I think it could be really interesting how you evolved and how you think different genres/moves helped or hurt your success and trajectory! Monica. You look so pretty in this video!
Also shelby saying maybe there is buyers remorse made me smile. Hahaha.

Maybe the airstream is already done? Throwing a cheap hardwood-looking floor down on top of the plywood would make the inside look nice. Then it could just be towed around to campgrounds with nice facilities for showers and bathrooms and the camper could be used like a super nice tent. It would be an alternative to throwing a bunch of money into it before using it for the first time to test if you really like it.
