I think the PsychFurs original is one of the greatest songs of the 80's and was one of the first mp3s I ever bought. That being said--this is a nice cover and re-interpretation. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's better or worse than the original. It's just a different version, is all, and there's nothing wrong with it.
The original is by the Psychedelic Furs - the top related video for me is the original recording (not the re-recording they made for the movie Pretty in Pink)
