I met the beautiful, perfect lady who would become my wife when I was 29. This song's just sums up that time for me. Where was she all that time. I am 46 now and she stills makes me ecstatically happy every day through thick on thin. This is my song to her.
I heard this for the first time 14 years ago; it was my introduction to The National. It perfectly captured the nervous awkwardness I felt with my ex-girlfriend. And now, a few heartbreaks later, it still does.
You know I dreamed about you for twenty-nine years before I saw you You know I dreamed about you I missed you for for twenty-nine years some of the best lyrics i have ever heard. Beautiful
i started out slow with this band myself. i saw them at an outdoor venue 2 summers ago and they were good. i didn't fully appreciate them until i saw them live in a small club venue. they are absolutely amazing. i will never miss them if they pass through town. definitely one of my favorite bands now. can't wait for the new album in may.
This is the very first song I heard from The National a couple years ago and I couldn't stop listening to it (it wasn't this acoustic version). Was instantly hooked to this group...but this still remains my favorite song by them.
This is beautiful.. Matt Berninger's lyrics are amazing, you can really tell how much they mean to him. "I wanna hurry home to you, put on a slow dumb show for you, and crack you up" I was lucky enough to see them live twice in the past short while and am seeing them again soon. Their live sound is the best I've ever heard. Hearing the acoustic version is great too.. allows for more intimacy
Such a crazy good song. I love how Matt sounds IDENTICAL on the album and live, his voice is dark but smooth and warm at the same time. Give me chills.
@@FlyingGunman00 getouttahere..julian is next level. Matt can't hold a candle to him even at his best. Matt is monotonous while julian has better style, range, vocal dynamics, passion and delivery. The national have monotonous tunes and matt is only comfortable singing a particular style (even his solo stuff and oter projects) while julian with the strokes and his other band voidz has done much different stuff. Matt has a great voice that goes well with the national sound but julian has great voice plus he has bunch of other things going for him that makes him much better singer than matt. Matt has a great voice but scores lower than julian on range, versatilty, vocal dynamics and style in my books. Having said that, matt is certainly better than alex turner. And let's not forget thom yorke is still around. He is better than all of them combined lol.
Standing at the punch table, swallowing punch Can't pay attention to the sound of anyone A little more stupid, a little more scared Every minute, more unprepared I made a mistake in my life today Everything I love gets lost in the drawers I want to start over, I want to be winning Way out of sync from the beginning I wanna hurry home to you Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it Looking for somewhere to stand and stay I leaned on the wall and the wall leaned away Can I get a minute of not being nervous And not thinking of my dick? My leg is sparkles, my leg is pins I better get my shit together, better gather my shit in You could drive a car through my head in five minutes From one side of it to the other I wanna hurry home to you Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it You know I dreamed about you For twenty-nine years before I saw you You know I dreamed about you I missed you for, for twenty-nine years You know I dreamed about you For twenty-nine years before I saw you You know I dreamed about you I missed you for, for twenty-nine years
It's refreshing to hear a good song, isn't it? Compared to most of the crap that generally gets plaid on the radio across the country these days. This is real music, youngsters. "You know I dreamed about you, for 29 years before I saw you." Nice.
+Paul Wolfe i first heard them was in 2010 too "conversation 16", and god how i hate myself whenever i look at my music library ;/ so much time wasted without The National ...
+ABOODM7 Yeah, I'm embarrassed I didn't learn about them when they released Alligator. But they weren't getting mainstream radio play. I first heard Sorrow on Sirius Coffeehouse channel. I used to listen to a wide variety of music, and in the few years before 2010 had been gravitating more heavily toward melancholy music -- Ryan Adams, Damien Rice, Death Cab for Cutie. But The National really put it all together for me -- music, voice, lyrics. I've embarrassed to say I've never seen them live, but I'll be fixing that at year's end, flying out to Aspen Colorado to see them in a small venue two nights in a row.
This song was released in the year of Boxer's release in 2007. Someone created a profile on Orkut dedicating the lyrics of this song to me, I never found out who it was.
Anyone here in 2024? This song has me so deep into this band, I can’t hear other music. This is an outright masterpiece.
Cheers! 🍻
I always come back to this video. Love it. Happy Christmas!

May we all get to experience this , peace brother

Such a devastating and beautiful song. My absolute favorite, along with About Today. Both just put me right at ease.
still their best song. damn.
Jurabox Love this band. My favorite song of their's too.
It's an absolute pearler mate :)))
still is
My word that's a clean guitar player. Beautiful, thank you.
I think it's Bryce, masters from Yale in music, a classic trained guitarist; if Aaron, he has music degree from Columbia
This has to be the best recording of this song. This needs to be watched more.
Where has The National been my whole life.
You know I dreamed about you
for twenty-nine years before I saw you
You know I dreamed about you
I missed you for
for twenty-nine years
some of the best lyrics i have ever heard. Beautiful
I still go back to this. Oh, how the years fly...
Even in an old kitchen good music is always good music
Let’s also mention the superb rhythm playing.

Hearing this played live at their Royal Albert Hall gig was the highlight of an amazing gig....

I met my husband when we were both 29. This is our song. Adore this band.
I love the reference to 29 years in this song. This band is simply the best band out there.
What is the reference?
@@chrisbowman5910 It was originally from a demo. Kinda like how Blank Slate has lyrics from Keep It Upstairs.
This is beautiful..

If there ever was a song to describe what I feel on a regular basis, it’s this one.
Sometimes being able to click like once on a track just doesn't cut it - i wish i could click it over and over - love this song
Come back to this weekly
Serene, mesmerising, haunting, divine, eternal....

You know I dreamed about you
For 29 years before I saw you

It's hard to stop listening to a song when it describes everything about your actual state of mind.

This album is a masterpiece.
Hands down my FAVORITE band right now- I've seen live once and they were absolutely amazing!
The Best Male Voice On planet Now
Vaisakh Krishnan Julian Casablancas, Alex turner plus Matt is not that good live
@@MrShahid0072 When Matt's voice is on point, Casablancas and Turner can't hold a candle to him

My favorite National song.
Standing at the punch table, swallowing punch
Can't pay attention to the sound of anyone
A little more stupid, a little more scared
Every minute, more unprepared
I made a mistake in my life today
Everything I love gets lost in the drawers
I want to start over, I want to be winning
Way out of sync from the beginning
I wanna hurry home to you
Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up
So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain

I better get my shit together, better gather my shit in
You could drive a car through my head in five minutes
From one side of it to the other
I wanna hurry home to you
Put on a slow, dumb show for you and crack you up
So you can put a blue ribbon on my brain
God, I'm very, very frightened, I'll overdo it
You know I dreamed about you
For twenty-nine years before I saw you

A song to fall in love to.
awesome!!
A crucifix drop down, an atomic explosion screensaver on a Mac, The National... Lack of faith on religion, and apology of destruction. Good video.
