    Sounds great and that's what's important.
    It took a long time for me to start ignoring the familiar sayings:
    Doesn't sounds real
    Pushing air
    Kemper is better
    Amp is better
    What you need is to find the best sound to suit your needs, and use it.
    Don't say "it doesn't sound like a 5150" etc, but just find the best tone for yourself and USE IT!
    The crowed doesn't say "ah, it sounds like a plexi", all they hear is noise anyways.

      imo that's a matter of personal useage. for pretty much every professional application, especially live, modern modellers are absolutely perfect, and ignoring the familiar sayings is absolutely valid.
      but nothing is ever as fun as sitting in front of a real amp with a real cab. imo tube amps are for personal enjoyment these days. i don't walk away from my friend's kemper smiling ear to ear, but i do walk away from my blackmore and laney 412 grinning like an idiot. depends on what you're looking for.

      The thing about guitarrists is that most of the time we choose de sound for two reasons: how it sounds with everyone else playing at the same time and how it sounds to ourselves as we play it. So, yeah, tone is definely not that important to the crowd, but It is for ourselves. It help us feel comfortable playing. Thing is: I do feel that I play better when I'm using my usual gear or something that sound as good or better then when I'm playing with something entry-level, because when it doesn't sounds right, it's distracting.

    • @irmasil3
      @irmasil3 3 роки тому +11

      The most interesting part is that most people complaining the modellers don't sound like the "real thing" never actually played the real thing....B. Marsden used to laugh with all the guys mentioning how this or that Les Paul doesn't sound like the real 59' and he always responded: "Ok....how many originals have YOU played???? Cos I played a few.... :) " And the usual response was 0...

    • @BollocksUtwat
      @BollocksUtwat 3 роки тому

      Arguably though an audience can hear the difference if you play better when having more fun and sadly having more fun with a cranked tube amp is basically a thing of the past for all but the most popular acts who can afford to bully their way into a venue with whatever kit they want.

    • @miket2646
      @miket2646 3 роки тому

      Love this conversation because there's so much truth to it. The modelers are just awesome in the studio and work so well on stage for going to FOH. But yea, at the end of the day.... nothing will ever feel like standing in front of tubes while pushing a few feet of drivers.

    I recently lost all my gear in a house fire, and I ended up getting the POD Go as a quick and dirty replacement for all the pedals, rack gear, and computer/amp sims I lost in the fire. This unit works spectacular as a stompbox/fly rig in front of an amp with the cab sims disabled. It's definitely not a replacement for a good amp sim for recording, but as an all-in-one unit for gigging with a amp, it's great.

    I got mine back in late April, and really like it so far. They do sound tighter when you put an overdrive pedal block in front of the amp (just like you would a real amp). It does take some tweaking, but you can get a decent sound out of it. And it does record well thru the USB. I posted my own demo of it, and I think it really sounds great.

    What a great time to be a guitar player. I would have killed for anything even close to sounding this good and that was this portable when I was learning.
    Back then there was basically no middle ground between a Peavey Bandit and a full price too-loud-for-the-house professional tube amp.
    The Pod Go's built-in IRs are really bad though hah.

    I love my pod go. You get a whole lot more than your paying for with it. Probably the best purchase I’ve made in a damn long time. With the pod go edit you can really get deep into it. It’s crazy. Only bd thing I can say about it is that when updating the firmware, be really careful. I turned mine into a brick for about 2 hours after I got it. But luckily I figured out how to get it to boot up. Other than that it’s highly worth buying.

    This video is a good example of why I stopped using modelers. I was spending so much time toggling back and forth between models and settings that I was spending more time tweaking than playing - always lookign for somethign that sounded just a tiny bit better. Give me a quality real tube amp with one or two great sounds any day over this infinite variability and option paralysis.

    That's essentially what I do ,I just use my krank distortion with no amps no cabs and use some gates and the comps along with a real noise gate and an eq into the front of the amp with the 4 cable method , with modeling side it took me a couple years of tweaking to get a passable sound there are a lot of little tips and tricks with pod stuff to get passable sounds, res control at 0 and a pre/amp setup has really given me some good results sounds even better through the return of my krank

    6:00 you hit one of the main weaknesses in the Helix/POD line of products. (BTW, this is the new POD, not the new Helix, which makes it a huge upgrade for PODs to carry Helix software and limited features.) The cabs are models, not impulse response recordings, and they all sound a little "off". I used stock cabs for 2yrs before buying the OH core bundle, and it changed the whole device for me.

    The trick with the stock cabs is to use the hi and lo pass filter to recreate the response of a true cab. There's not much effort if You know that trick. A Mesa cab won't have a full range 0 to 20k response. Obviously commercial IRs are fuckin' amazing but You absolutely CAN make the stock cabs sound good.

    I've got the HX Stomp and along with it I use IR's from Celestion themselves and it sounds phenomenal! This is the realest guitar tone and closest I have ever heard to a real amp. The celestion IR's are made of insane quality and you really should check them out. They have sound samples for every IR so you always know how the characteristic of the sound is gonna be like. Note that all of the Helix family members (:D) use the exact same sounds so the pod go and hx stomp use the exact same sounds as the Helix and Helix LT. Ignore the standard cabs, the amps are insane and paired with high quality IR's you will be definitely satisfied after spending some time tweaking it.

    This is a little long but if you're on the fence about modeling this could be a worthwhile read.
    I bought one of these for late night practicing through headphones and the occasional fly gig/jam. It sounds so good to me that it has become my main rig, but there’s an important catch- I bypass the cab sims and put it straight into the fx loop return of my Bad Cat Cub 15R because, let’s face it, FRFR systems cannot recreate the “amp in a room” sound.
    Although I’m not about to part with my Eventide H9, the effects on board are good to excellent. I’m still pretty floored by how uniformly great this setup sounds. Just so you don’t think I’m some easily impressed noob, I’ve been playing since the early 80’s and own or have owned great amps by the likes of Mesa (at least 6), Carr, Friedman, Budda, Fender CS, Orange, Rivera, Revv, and so-on. I’ve had my favorites from these brands and I can really say that the Pod Go into my Bad Cat’s fx loop return puts as big a smile on my face as any of the above amps.
    Maybe I just got lucky and the Bad Cat just happens to “like” the Pod Go and it’s a great combination just by chance? Eventually I’ll pull out other amps to find out. I also think it’s important to mention that in my experience it doesn’t sound good into the front of an amp which makes sense given that you’re putting a modeled preamp into a real preamp in this scenario.
    Modeling has really come of age IMHO. If you’re tired of lugging a big rig around and you’re intrigued by modeling but don’t like the FRFR experience you should consider this kind of setup. You may be very surprised. Oh yeah, the day after I bought this I got an email from Fractal as I'd been on their waiting list for the past 6 months for a FM3. With all the confidence that I was making the right choice and zero regret to date, I told them I was going to pass. YMMV

    Dunno man, I'm a Helix user, and I always thought: maybe I have to buy a Kemper or something... until this monday. My band mate got a Kemper stage, and after playing together with him, and also playing through his Kemper, great sounding device definitely.... but I realized I like my Helix every bit as much as that Kemper, so I personally was REALLY happy with that outcome 😂😂 I mean I do think, Fractal and Kemper stuff sounds better out of the box, but with some good IRs and a bit of tweaking you can actually get a just as good sound out of the Helix =P

      I’ve wish the Helix was easier to program. On the surface it’s really easy, but I have a hard time getting that same wide open tone I get from pedals and a tube amp...it always sounds like a professional recording of a good tone. I’ve heard people get that killer tone, it just takes too much tweaking for my taste.

      Jared Burdick Yeah I do understand that, I have my Helix for 3 years now, and it took a lot of tweaking, but the thing is, I always chose things that are difficult 😂😂 my favorite amp of all time is a Rectifier, now the first time I got to plug into a real Recto, I was SO disappointed because it sounded like ass, I did not know, that you really have to spend time with it and it's a didficult amp to dial in 😂😂 But I understand, live I always use a power amp and my ENGL or Marshall 4x12, been thinking about going direct, but I still love the sound of a real cab on stage 😂

    Hi Ola, How did you connect it up to your amp? Was it 4 cable method or something else? I'm trying to figure out the best way to use it with a JVM 410 and still be able to use the amps own tones while putting effects (Overdrive etc) before the amp and modulation after. Love your work! Cheers

    • @joe1003
      @joe1003 2 роки тому +1

      im just guessing... but i think its the return in the back of the amp ....so left mono out from pod go to amp return... that's how i run mine...and i use the preamp like he did instead of the full blown amp...otherwise its the 4 cable method
