If it’ll go on a jump it’s definitely charging, it’s not the alternator, must be a bad battery my friend…Those 454’s are hard to beat too, cool ol Winnie btw!
There’s nothing that beets that peanut. The 454 is called the peanut. The 350 is called a bowtie. Actually there is one engine that will beat a 454. The Ford 460. So.. maybe.
Josh, Why haven't they given you your own show on the travel channel yet? You keep proving that with enough gumption you can have adventures with anything
Oh man… you came up on my home feed. I cried my eyes out. My husband use to watch you all the time. Your voice sounds like an old friend. My husband passed away in January 22. I miss him so much. Thank you for being you and keep doing what you do best. You make my heart smile! ❤
You have OFFICIALLY reached maximum Dad status driving that congratulations and keep it weird my friend Same fridge I have in our toy hauler Such is an awesome ride
Nice RV, and glad to see Forgotten Angels survived the storm, was wondering about that. About the only "upgrade" I would make to the RV would be a Gear Vendors overdrive. Can turn a 3 spd into a 6 spd
Im actually really glad that you bought this RV to keep and use for yourself. It's cool to do the charity thing, but I'm happy for YOU to find a sweet old winny
Freaking sick 🤘 We will be there for the first time at the campout and we are stoked about it! Excited to meet and hangout with everybody we watch through our little boxes. Be there to watch all the good happen before our eyes and be a helping hand. See y'all soon!
I love everything you and Chey do for the Forgotten Angels program. Dave and Cindy are amazing people for taking all of them in and showing them love, and teaching them life skills. Keep it weird my friend. Y'all are amazing.
What David doing at Forgotten Angels (and you, assisting and promoting them) is truly amazing. I really wish there were something similar to that up here. When kids-and its usually boys-age out, they are not usually in a great place. Doing what you guys do is awesome. One of these days I need to get down there, and pick David's brain, maybe start something like that up here in New England.
Josh. For shits and giggles I looked into what it would take to put an Overdrive behind that 454. Looks like you can install a 4L80 with a standalone controller. The controller doesn't look to be too expensive and of course a stock GM trans are pretty common. Could be worth looking into.
@@tinycalandra7818 I like the GV and a sniper will definitely help with mileage. But Shadetree has said many times he is limited by a budget. So it seemed to me that a 4L80 or 4L80E would be relatively cheap and could offer some benefits for mileage. A good tune up and a knowledgeable carb person could definitely take a little edge off the numbers, though I wouldn't expect any miracles.
Josh, your channel is the best on UA-cam. I love everything you do, especially what you do for forgotten angels. You provide daily inspiration to so many people, including myself. Thank you and keep up the great work.
Your RV looks sweet. Keep the roof maintained and that will prevent many issues. Now that you found the bad part which is the gas mileage, the good news is the 454 will get the same gas mileage even when towing. Keep on Keeping on with a Pickle and a prayer! lol
Man I just want you know to that it means so much that you give back to foster kids. I was a foster parent and ended up adopted 3 of my foster kids. They are my moon and stars. So many have rough experiences in foster care. I have some stories that would probably make you mad as hell, but I like the good stories better. Love the new RV!! You need to come up my way. I live just east of Asheville in Marion NC. Some amazing roads up here. I’ve got a 99 Road Glide that I tear them up with weekly. We’ve got the Blue Ridge Parkway, NC80, NC226A. And those are just in the county I live in. Not to mention Lake James. I think you’d love it here. Anyway, keep up the good work. I’ll keep watchin! Keepin it weird!!
I frenkin love you videos Josh. My wife and I just became foster parents here in NC. I’ve rode motorcycles my whole life and that’s what got me watching you. Keep up the awesome work for those young Men!
It's funny I did the same thing 37 years ago on an old class c motorhome so I could go to Daytona with my bikes and have to not sleep on the ground. My RV was named Floyd at the old man that sold it to me. Thanks for the memories they brought up and all the fun we had back then.
I love vintage and that was a great find. Looking forward to seeing you on the road. I have a 1995 23' class c and all I need now is a trailer for my old trike and I'll be on the road to
great choice. yeah the gas consumption is a pain, but you can now re-visit some of the amazing destinations you have been to. The money you save from Hotel rooms, eating out, drinking out, plus being able to just sit outside your RV under those amazing night skies in places, totally offsets the gas cost. Having an all in one mobile studio/office/garage/shelter will allow you the added time to enjoy the scenery.
I love this idea! cant wait for the future adventures! You should get one of those small trailers you can attach a moped or small bike too, so you can ride when you get to your destinations.
I always love it when Ole Shadetree waxes poetic about Forgotten Angles. That place, David and Cindy have a special place in my hart. It’s hard not to shed a tear when it gets real like this.
You can check the alt by removing the neg cable on the batt while the vehicle is running. If the vehicle continues to run with the batt disconnected, then the alt is probably good. Also if the alt is bad, it would take less than a day of travel to suck a charged batt dry. 👍
I did the same thing on my channel back in August, after the Sturgis motorcycle rally I flew back out to Rapid City from North Carolina picked up in 1983 Chevrolet motorhome also powered by 454 and drove it 1500 miles back to North Carolina with a number of problems along the way. My viewers said it made it very exciting series on my channel.
I love that you called it the stabbing wagon, I had to come up with a name for mine while on the trip and because I had so many challenges along the way I decided to name it the ”STRUGGLE BUS”
Excited for the ideas with the RV. Less risk and fatigue when going across country whether it be a bike or car and having this available. Hope the RV will serve you guys well. With a lot of safe and fun miles together with all your friends or visits to friends etc.
Josh. I would be interested if you check the registration on that motor home. It’s an Itasca by winnebago. If it was owned by Billy Allen I can give you some history on it. That 454 was modified to eliminate the pollution control, straight pipes and a transmission shit kit. It hauled a$$.
I just want to say I've been watching the channel for a while and I love the purpose of the forgotten angles. One of these days my ol lady and I will attend an events. Pa to FL baby hopefully sooner then later.
My Brother owns an older RV with a 454 in it we have done many road trips with it , we found that with the cruise control set at 65 mph you don't stress the engine as much and get a little better gas mileage, those RV's push lot of air , also when you get in the mountains its a good idea to have a tach , so you can drive the tach and save the engine that 454 's torque range is between 1800 and 2200 RPM . Have fun and safe travels .
I would imagining the idea is to stay below the mountains, and use the bikes to explore the mountains, with the aid of locals, then take the RV to the next mountain, and repeat!
Did the same exact thing with a 1985 “aristocrat” lol. A few miles down the road and it dies in the middle of the road blocking two lanes due to no gas…… found out later it had a cracked gas line in the tank so if it dipped below 3/4 of a tank it would start to die. Lots of learning and living.
You got a steal!!!! I love it, and as a RV’r there is nothing like the old Winnie’s. And itasca is the model, named after the lake the the Mississippi starts flowing from in Minnesota
What a killer deal on a vintage Winnie!! Love Y'all's plans for it too. Swapping to a 4 speed 4l80e would likely help the mileage, as it offers not only an overdrive gear, but a lockup torque converter as well, eliminating slippage at highway speeds. 10/10 a recommended upgrade to ease the pain at the gas pump.
now that i've seen the rest of the video, josh you gotta try and get some lifepo4 batteries and solar for this badboy. for an rv, you'll get by fine with a 12v system. so batteries (or just 1 battery!), panel(s), and an inverter all 12v rated. it's an initial expense, but it's a saving that keeps on giving!

That thing brings back many memories. We had one in the family when I was a kid. Looked exactly the same. Sweet ride my man. Should build some memories for you as well
Hey man that thing is way cool. Somebody loved that RV and you can tell because it must have been stored under cover. I think once you fix the problems that will be a great camper. There is an antique RV culture that is big and that is one with a little work could be a winner. They don't make them like that anymore and you got one heck of a deal. Congratulations!

Biggest thing is the manifold bolts and heat killing manifold gaskets in the older rvs. Other than that bullet proof. Battery power or ac direct is needed for heater fan and newer ones require power to gas valve to open it for firing igniter . The Winnebago ads that popped up were a stark contrast LOL ! I remember sending you a picture of a 4wd truck with a truck camper with a dual purpose on the front of it years ago. Got the truck and camper but that ultra popped into my lap for $4200 lol . You can do some aftermarket add ons to make that 454 a little more efficient. I have a 26 footer with a 350 and the 3 speed. I'm working on the same improvements myself in the driveway.
Congratulations Shadetree! I remember you making a video some years ago, where you went to an rv show. I remember you saying one day. Well....your someday has arrived. Good luck with it.
What a cool ride! My wife and I just purchased an RV ourselves for the same purpose! We've been trying to make it out to the campouts since y'all started them and haven't been able to make it happen just yet. It's going to happen though! Cheers mate!
You bought me a beer at your bar when i was stationed at macdill in tampa. When you roll that road train through montana, let a guy know so i can return the favor! And bring a dirt bike or two along so we can show you some mountain riding!
Had complete confidence it would make it home. It's all downhill from Flint to Tampa. Make it a true roach coach, cut a window on the side, and server glizzies. 😁
My Friend bought a Motor Home in Union City MI for $2,200.00 he was headed for Vegas and made it about 30 miles before all his old belts blew up .. Replaced them drove 2,300 miles to Vegas and has been living in the Motorhome for 6 years now .

Bro I am putting on the calendar want to be apart of this. Great video eye opener on the cause.
The campout site says it ends on Saturday the 29th but you state it is Thurs, Fri, Sat, Sun... I would hope Sunday is a leaving day and not Saturday?
Is Chey your niece?
I was -22 in 1974 XD

I'd watch that shit aaaaallll damn day
That is genius. He's a natural !!
Because he’s real, those other shows are fake, scripted, filmed by a crew, put together by a production company
he's not a salesman, too genuine. couldn't do the product placement
@@leoblumhagen644 Yeah, and they'd probably have to play by certain rules. May not be what some are thinking, would be watered down.
Love love love this. Josh keeps showing why he’s the best on UA-cam
Nice ride. I like those old 70s rvs. Can't beat that 70s wood paneling.

So sorry for your lost ❤

(States he doesn't have a multimeter..... but was standing in a Walmart and Autozone parking lot where one was available for purchase)
AutoZone would have probably checked his battery and alternator for free!
A horse box painted the same colour as the RV, you could get 2 bikes into it and covered storage. C00L video dude.

The amount of chaos in this video...I love it
Josh, you're a social butterfly and the charity work you do is outstanding. I wish you nothing but the best. Ride safe and stay in the wind!
Im actually really glad that you bought this RV to keep and use for yourself. It's cool to do the charity thing, but I'm happy for YOU to find a sweet old winny
I had a friend buy an old RV with a very small fuel tank (only one). It barely could travel between gas stations. Glad you made it home safely!
Those old Winnebagos are fantastic. We had the older one with the Chrysler 440. Needed work but worth it.

I grew up camping in a 73 with the green w decals and we called it the rolling turd 😆
Super cool 😎 let us know when you're coming to Colorado!
