As a person that started a long time ago.. well lets put it this way.. GMP, Schluter and Kalt heli's were the thing when I got started. Purchased a Hirobo Shuttle and had no money for a fancy radio or gyro. Learned how to fly the shuttle by constantly tweaking the mechanical parts of the pitch / throttle servo horns to try and get the best flying heli because all I had was a 4 channel radio (AM and not FM!). Yes! - I crashed a lot! The hobby shop that I went to actually stocked lots of shuttle kits just for me as I was there every week picking up parts. But I did learn! No clubs anywhere. Finally got a chance to go to a heli fun fly in PA and was amazed at the tricks and flying that were going on. I had an expert look over my heli to make sure I was kind of doing this properly and found I learned to fly with the rudder backwards.. What did I know? so it took me around 4 months to retrain my brain with the rudder set properly. After time I finally was able to purchase a GMP Competitor and a 7FGKH radio and futaba mech gyro and learned more. In the early days there were not many people out there you could go to and discuss if your heli was assembled properly as the assembly was more than 50% of what was needed to be a successful pilot. I am just amazed at how far we have come and how it has opened doors for new people to get into the hobby. Without needing to go through the hard knocks I did.

Practicing all flight orientations is very valuable and essential to get a flyer to 3D.
Forward, reverse upright, inverted forward and reverse inverted, get them secured and you be able to enter or exit/bail out of any 3D maneuver. You'll also have preferential direction due to stick stabilization and our unique eye hand coordination. Work on weaknesses more. I agree, there are some maneuvers that people are not ready for. Procede at your own peril.

Always hit your throttle hold switch before landing to auto rotate into your landing. This helps prevent damage if your blades touch the ground. If they touch while under power the damage in increased easily 10x. Happy flying and good job!

I agree that being able to ask a club member or an experienced heli pilot is the easiest way to learn. I don't have that and have found setting up my helis has been a steep learning curve. Luckily UA-cam and the heli forums have been good sources of knowledge.

Heli setup can def be challenging first couple times doing it, particularly with no help ☹️ But we r fortunate to have so many more resources to learn from now, like UA-cam, Facebook, online forums, etc., than there were like 10 or more yrs ago 👍🏽

Good tips and keep up the practice! I'm currently learning inverted but I'll share one of the mistakes I made. You need to balance out flying in real life with practicing on the sim. I tended to be a bit too afraid or crashing or didn't feel ready which caused me to fly less at the field. I'd expect pairing up with someone would help with that but still trying to find a mentor. There's two heli guys at the field but it's been difficult to meet up.

Thx man and appreciate u tuning in 🙌🏽 I totally relate with u on being afraid to fly at the field on my real heli's 🤪 I would stall and just hang out with the other club members there instead of flying 😂 I just had to man up and get myself (and my heli 😝) to the flight line 😁 I was also fortunate to have awesome club members constantly encourage me to get more stick time 👍🏽I wouldn't be where I'm at with my flying today without those guys helping build my confidence 💯

ABSOLUTELY TRUE! Join a club, or at the very least fly with a MORE advanced EXPERIENCED HELI PILOT! Great advice.

Glad u liked the vid 🙌🏽 Congrats on the M2 Evo, I think u'll love it 🙂 Hovering is where we all started at. Put in the stick time and u'll be doing much more in no time 😎 I'm gonna continue to share my progress as I learn to do new things but I'm also going to dedicate more time in my vids talking about experiences and lessons I've learned in this hobby that I hope will help newer pilots learn quicker and enjoy RC helis more 👍🏽 Thx for tuning in 👊🏽💯

Hi AJ, when will you fly on your regular flying field with the bigger heli's ? Will you also make some video's about the sim, to be specific, setting up and configuring ? Nice to have you back.

I hope to soon (may even try today 🙂) I've just been busy with life stuff which is why I've just been stealing some time here and there to fly in my backyard. I'm happy to at least be able to get some stick time, but I am really itching to fly my bigger helis 😁 The club closest to me is still closed due to new gov regulations and the other club had setup a new field but its further away, so I just gotta find the time to get out there.
As for a SIM setup vid, I can def put something together for that. Some ppl have asked in the past and I just haven't gotten around to not only preparing info for it but to also sort out the best way to record it for UA-cam. I appreciate u asking though and I promise I'll work on getting something up for that 🙏🏽 Thx for tuning in 🙌🏽👊🏽

      I'm a newbie,
      Flying 20 years.
If you ever skied, looking down the mountain, same thought, "I'll never be able to do this", You need only ski 5 feet at a time, and you control your speed.
