Fun fact: it took Biz 5 years to find This beat because he never knew the name of it, one night he got a call and one of his friends played this over the phone asking if it was the track. R.I.P to the legend🙏
We really do take the internet for granted. Thanks for sharing this.
Freddie Scott,I hope that's who you mean.
🐕🦺⚾🇺🇲😎🐕🦺
Biz should have and deserved more hots! Rip
Kinda crazy it took him that long to find it cause it has a pretty memorable chorus 😂
The Diabolical Biz Markie
I have a strong feeling there will be plenty of people completely surprised that Just a Friend isn't 100% Biz Markie's.
Don't know why, they should know 99% of rappers sample their beats
I am very surprised
Been hearing it on a ETSY COMMERCIAL 💝💝
Thank you for reminding the young people that they didn't invent the wheel.
@@SmithNorthwest lol... at 50, I don't consider myself one of the "young people." I grew up in the 80s, and I just found out that Biz Markie sampled this! I DO get what you're saying, though! Its all good!
I heard this version just recently on a commercial and just had to investigate. I hope he got paid royalties for this.
Etsy
@@Kpob03 yep
Me too!
Gamble and Huff wrote and produced it
I'm here 4 the same reason. I heard this on some tv commercial.
It's funny AF how Biz flipped this phat original.
Salute to both artist.
I like the original because it's so DOPE, just funky and perfect, and yeah Biz did his thing on this joint. I met him at BWI airport and asked him about his version and he said it was a true story, but he would not say the woman's name. Biz was a cool guy, very friendly and wicked smart much respect to Biz Markie Dee !!!
I think you're mixing 2 rappers names, but it's all good.
You're thinking about Prince Markie Dee of The Fat Boys.
Listen to the song "Just a friend of mine" Vaya con dios, and you'll see the same kinda "He's just a friend" story like Biz Markie's song :D I thought he got inspired from there to write his song. :)
“Blah Blah Blah”
Freddie Scott has so much soul he could open up a shoe store 🎙🎶
😅
This was probably Biz's favorite song as a kid.
The rare and pure honesty from a man in love. His voice is like silk. This song like honey, never expires. 🤎
We really need to commend some of the old school rapper and MC's because their digging in the crates opened us to some great music we might have missed. This is one of those.
Concordo plenamente contigo, graças ao movimento hip hop e rappers de 80's beberam das fontes
Damn, this shit slaps! I'm 40 years old and I just now heard this song in 2021. RIP Freddie Scott
Music used to be so wholesome
Thank you Patrice O'Neal ❤️👑. RIP KING
The absolute GOAT. 😭🙏🏽
I have to give Biz credit. He added some creative twists to this and gave this underground old-school tune a new lease on life. RIP BIZ.
Brilliantly done. RIP BIZ
I love Biz Markie but this is the superior version and I think he'd agree.
They say the person that supposed to did the hook never showed so he did it himself...just a fun fact
Like George Clinton was high on acid while in the booth with the headphones on. As they was rewinding the track he thought it was the beat on and started singing "Why must I be like that? Why must I chase the cat?" Atomic Dog was made by mistake lol
Oh, baby, you, you got what I need
You got everything I need
You're like medicine to me
Oh, baby
In a world of salty tears
So afraid and full of fears
So glad you saved me, dear
(Saved me, dear)
You brought sunshine to my life
Things were wrong, you made them right
How did you do it, dear?
(Do it, dear)
Oh, I'm thankful every day (ooh)
That you came my way (ooh)
And I hope and pray (ooh)
That you'll never ever go away
'Cause you, oh, you got what I need, little girl
You got everything I need
You're like medicine to me
Oh, baby
You got it
I was drowning in the sea of love
Going down for the third time
You came and saved me, dear
(Saved me, dear)
All the sweet things you've been doin'
I ain't never gettin' used to them
Don't ever stop them, dear
(Stop 'em, dear)
Oh I'm thankful every day (ooh)
That you came my way (ooh)
And I'm gonna make sure (ooh)
That you never ever go away
'Cause you, oh, you got what I need, little girl
(Everything I need) Oh yeah
(Medicine to me) Oh baby
Oh, you got what I need little girl, oh well, oh
You got it, you got it, you got it
You got it
Baby, you got it, got it, got it
Got it
Oh you, oh you got what I need, little girl
You got everything I need
You're like medicine to me
Oh baby I
(Oh) I got to, got to, got to
Got to tell you, baby
You, you got what I need
You got everything I need
You're like medicine to me, oh baby
(Oh) You got it
(Oh) You got it
Oh you got it, got it
Got what I need, little girl
You got everything I need
You're like medicine to me
Just came across this song for the first time today on a Facebook ad! Absolutely love it!💃🏼
I heard it in a commercial and immediately went looking for it and bought it! Simply magic!
Me too, I love it 😊
soul music was so great that songs like this one were considered ok in those days.
Bass Reeves: True and I'm loving that Bass Reeves Thumbnail that you have
Believe it or not I had not heard this song until today!! Someone special sent it to me & I love this song!!❤❤
This song is being used for an ad over in New Zealand. Love the words and music.
Yeah I'm from NZ too. They're murdering this song in the ad!
this song is just what i need.
As Patrice Oneal said "how dare I not know this song". Look up "patrice oneal hosts O and A show" or "Patrice Oneal unsung sample day". It's one of the greatest things I've ever listen to
Patrice!!! That man continues to save my life from the grave. Ridiculous how excited I get when a stranger on the internet even mentions his name 🙏🏽😭
How dare me
Never knew that Biz sampled this.. AWESOME!!! 😅💪🏽
Am I snob because I don't want to listen a "new" version of these ? Don't mess with perfection.
Beautiful classic of soul!!!❤❤❤❤
Wow! what a Great Song it the beat is great and the lyrics are perfect, but it's the singers who bring it to life.
Be thankful that you hear something and you are just glad somebody signed post you something that in the old days you'd ever hear, so a shout out to those who shine a light in those alleys that have darkened because time was not their side❤
I came because of the commercial that was shown on TV! Blessings and hugs 🤗💞😂💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖💘❤️😊💖😊❤️💕🤗🙏🙏!
I'm furious that I just discovered this song. How come no one ever mentions this song when they talk about samples?
Only '1' artist touched it. That's why..
Now lil durk too 😂
THAT S REAL MUSIC!!!!! SOUL POWER 2020!!
Sho" YOU RIGHT!!!!!!
Bener banget bang👍
First heard this in late 1968, on KKDA AM Radio- Soul Socking 73.
Definitely Soul.
They've been thrashing it on a NZ TV supermarket ad lately and the moment I heard it I knew I'd heard it as a kid and went in search of the original which thank heavens I found. This song is 'like medicine to me'.
exactly, new world leads me here 😂
que buena vida
😂😂
Oh Snap !! 1st thought after hearing this for the first time is Biz really murdered this song. 😄🤣😅
U have to be a Jay Anthony Brown/ Tom Joyner morning show fan to know what I mean.
I love hip hop because I love how black people can take anything & make something new and good out of it.
That's just how we get down. Always moving forward and reinventing.
I’m so confused on why I didn’t have this in my playlist already..
Qué buena vida ❤
“No ganas nada cuando te comparas” excelente comercial ❤
Ja 😉🤗
Today being the 34th anniversary of ‘The Biz Never Sleeps’ is what brought me here. R.I.P. to the legends.
Came here from the book of life!! I listened to biz markie’s version since it was the top result and i saw this!! The original is so much better than any other renditions. Crazy listening to a song 34 years older than me, better than what i hear today anyway 🥸
You're right the original is so much better. I always thought the Biz Markie song was entertaining but goofy. It was a silly fun song, but this version is an uplifting pop song.
Manolo and the book of Life and this ist cookies and Lucious Song too in Empire 😍
I was not looking for this one.
One I'm looking for goes like this:
Don't ever think about leaving, we are made for each other. You got what I want, I got what you want, we are made for each other..
Get out! I had no idea that this was the inspiration for that "other song"....You got what I need, but you say I'm just a friend. My little sister had this cat hanging around her and when we asked who he was (to her), she always said: he just a friend. Well 2 boys and marriage later, we found out differently.
The original funky funks! A true classic.❤😉

Some eccentric guy brought me here and I am not mad ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ghostface sampled this as well. Classic tune!!
And Mario
My uncle used to sing this song R.I.P. Jeremy
Heard this on Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia when Dee and Dennis go on unemployment and sit on the stoop in front of their apartment drinking 40’s out of a paper bag, blasting this on a ghetto blaster. Good old fashioned american fun.
Thank you!! Was racking my brain trying to think where I'd heard this recently 😂
You know what I was searching for
I wonder why this is the first time I’m hearing this. So very wrong this is a great song.
This OG song is nice. Biz Markie found a great song to sample with this one
i give it 6 months max before some slowed down version gets big on tiktok
Even more so now
Instagram sent me here. 🥰
Today was my first time hearing the original.

Don't ever trust a girl who just has a friend...

Here from the welfare episode of Always Sunny In Philly
SIP BIZ MARKIE!
This beat slap hard from the beginning almost like RZA produced it..Boom bat type beat
Ghostface Killah- Save Me Dear
If you criticize Biz sampling/recreating this record, you clearly don’t understand what and who Hip Hop was born from. RIP BIZ and Mr. Freddy Scott 🌼☀️👑☀️🌼
James brown hip hop wouldn't exist without James brown
This has more heart and soul, but I do like the other one better!
everyone talking about biz but no one talking about ghostface
The 80's was all samples
chooooon
Too bad Biz didn't just use Freddie Scott's vocals for the chorus. It would have made his song so much better.
His is funnier though
Ok it's June of 2023 and today I just found out that Biz sampled this song 🤦🏾♂️ all these years I thought it was a Biz Mark original 😳🤔😎
BIZ MARKIE... 1989 .. Just a Friend remix
I know we go straight to Biz Markie on the sample. But Ghostface Killah on the pretty Toney album sample this beat and song and its entirety, the song is called save me dear by Ghostface Killah from Wu-Tang
Fred Meyer commercial brought me here lol like this song
Local Produce ad on Kroger (which owns Fred Meyer).
That lady covered that song
Damon Wayne's brought me here!
i tried my best but u wasnt in my mind and u couldnt know how much u meant to me, so goodbye and god speed.
Who's here from Celeste & Jesse Forever end credits
Escutando esse som por causa do biz markie just a friend🎶🔥🔥🔥
Wow i never heard of this dude or this version I thought biz Markie version was the only version. Im surprised this wasn't a mega hit song.
Biz gave it new life.
It makes me laugh to think that any hip hop song wasn’t sampled. Here in NYC I grew up to kiss FM DJ red alert always played the classics. Biz Markie just stole it. I wonder if Freddie even got paid for that.
Yes, the sample was cleared but the record label screwed up is how Biz got in trouble with this track. So there is a huge difference between rhyming over the break and a sample. Early Hip-Hop was rhyming over the break, live instrumentation, or a mix of live instruments and the break. Later sampling in Hip-Hop, which was pretty much invented by Marley Marl, came into play. The sampler is just an instrument, some are basic, and some are complex, and then there are some tracks that are reproductions of the track.
@@Cuffski Biz got in trouble?? What happened??
@@Cuffski... It wasn't this song that got him into problems.
Came here from Just a Friend by tally hall 😭
who was the lady that did the cover for fred meyer?
