  • The TRICK to the PERFECT shot - Misty Landscape Photography Canon R5 & Focus Bracketing with the Canon R5
This week I set my alarm for sunrise to do some Landscape Photography and headed out to a Welsh Woodland to shoot some forest compositions in the mist. I have my new Canon R5 to wrap my head around and wanted to capture the mist before the sunshine came through. I focus bracket with a tripod and show you how attention to detail and returning to a location pays off and can improve your photography. I have shot this Woodland over the last few weeks and can see the improvement in my photography and my ability to see compositions and I feel you only really gain that when you become familiar with a location and persevere with different conditions.
Here is a blog about how to focus bracket video with some interesting comparison photos:

Nice vlog Suzanna. Some nice images but what I like about your work is the poetic words and how you describe the forest. The forests are amazing places and an escape from all the pressure in life these days. Thank for sharing.....

Yesterday my wife and I were off very unusual so we dropp the boys to school and went to our local wood for a walk it is such a different place at 11 oclock in the morning on a school day neumorous times I said to her others a shot oh look at that even the same trees that we,r over 2o year looking at seem different with the ever changing condition !! Take care.

Wonderful Suzannah, the connection between you and your surroundings is a joy to see and your observations of nature a gift for photography, as you say 'the truth'. Great work, always something to learn.

I too love the last image. It has a magical airiness about it that invites you in.
I am also of the camp of returning to one spot in various conditions to improve on compositions until it is exhausted. Now as much as we may think it is incremental improvements there is this theory I have discovered in this practice over the years. Yes the latests is usually our "best" work but maybe because it is our "freshest" and dominating our efforts and to some extent our own ego.
I have discovered over the years that our comparisons of old tries versus new ones will meld after a few months, years, sometimes decades. I say this because I have shot certain spots repeatedly throughout my life and after feeling I have improved each time shooting it and after the initial self congratulatory of the latest gem, years later I would revisit the first few tries and realized that those older versions have their own merits, and with fresh eyes and new editing skills I have found I can improve on those old files like I never thought was possible back then and make them new again in a different light.
Wonderful video and lesson. 😊The key is to always look to improve our skill set, our vision and use variety in a scene to our advantage.

Limited shutter speed in focus bracket, could be to do with the electronic shutter setting. Just a guess as I read it somewhere.

Very nice! A couple of weeks ago I woke up to fog and went to my local woods to get some shots and I was very happy with them. I was wondering if you could tell me what lens you are using? It looks like 24-105 f4 but can't really tell. Anyways, well done!

Thank you for your support and kind words, I'm using a 24-106 with an adapter. It's a good all rounder lens and I enjoy shooting with this and my 70-200mm

I like the more asymmetrical scenes so that last one is probably my favourite. I noticed that your photos are rather warm in color; is that on purpose? When shooting misty conditions I tend to go for cool tones to match the colours that I see. Personal taste of course. I do like the warmer tones when the sun comes through the mist.
