my Polish mate bought 2001 Seat Arosa (twin brother of this VW Lupo) when he arrived in the UK back in 2015. It was a great laugh when he selected reverse instead of 1st at the set of traffic lights (not used to RHD). We called it ''THE WILDBOAR'' because of the fun we had on flooded country roads around South Wales.

I’m quite upto date with the lupo scene. These cars are slowly going up in value. What reason I don’t know, but you’ve done quite well at £500. The alloy wheels are lupo sport wheels. The automatic box is a little less desirable but definitely appeals to the specific kind. They’re common for rotting on the arches, rear pop out windows was an optional extra also. Electric windows was an option too.

It’s an S spec so comes with electric front windows, rear pop-out windows and central locking. The alloy wheels were an option. Also for your (and my) OCD the rear mats are in the wrong footwells and the tray in the spare wheel is upside down. We have had 5 Lupo’s in my family and still have a TDI which I bought in 2007 so I know them well. I hope someone saves it as it doesn’t look rusty at all!

How nice to see a clean car in part exchange shows it’s been loved

This is trouble with not watching till the end before commenting...shame it just looks superficially like a nice car....ideal for student or recently passed test at £1500...

Oh man i miss that car. My mum had an 99 Lupo bright fireengine red with black cats from 2000 till 2017. I miss that car even for its only 1 litre engine. Going uphill was fun. And that lupo was the bottom of the line manual, no central locking and not electric windows.

A VW Lupo was my first car (in yellow!) and I LOVED it. It served me well for a long time. Excellent little car!

I wish they had Lupo’s over here! I would love to use it as an around town car! I bet it would get a lot of attention in the parking garage at work and just parking at the grocery store! I could hear the East Texans now with the southern draw “what in the world are ya driving there dude?!?” LOL, it would be a total riot!

This is the same power train as our 02 Fabia Mk1 1.4 Automatic was. It cost a lot to tax as you've found out. It drank fuel as well, and used a fair bit of oil. Otherwise it was quite a nice car. We scrapped it four years ago.

i just got one for myself, as my first ever car, I paid 700 pounds for mine, a little cutr silver nugget, driving, and starting every time, all I need to do is some minor fixes for it to become road legal, its also low milage about 200,000km im already in love with it

That 1,4 mpi is bulletproof engine. In my town there are many golf 5 + with lpg conversion as a taxies, and they got 700-800K KM without any major issues. Yes it is slow, but it is very reliable engine.

When did I last see a Lupo? There is one in my drive right now, waiting for me clean up and sell. It is a 1.4s silver Openair with the full length vinyl sunroof. Both of my sons learner/first car, did well for school/college. A nippy fun thing indeed. They were very popular the car modifiers though, so to find one that has not been boy racered is rare.

I had a Lupo 1.7sdi for my 3rd first car😂 and honestly I must’ve done 20k on it, mostly at full throttle because it was gutless. It was unbelievably economical even at max speed which wasn’t 3 digits. Had windy windows, tape deck, CD player. Always started even way below 0° and never let me down. It was on 260k, and it’s 4th timing belt when I sold it for £250 after crashing it into a farmers field! Those were the days.

I have a 2005 1 litre Lupo, with manual gearbox and wind-up windows, and have done just under 43 k miles, being the only owner from new.
Apart from a collision with a rock on the road which necessitated a new front sub frame, the only major wear fault was replacement of the corroded power steering line from the pump about 2 years ago. The exhaust emission light is now showing there may be a potential problem, but it continues to run well and the bodywork is in sound condition.
Before this, I had two Polos (not at the same time). I've heard that the UP! model is being discontinued at the end of 2023. Does the name come from the middle two letters of Lupo?

Matt, don’t knock those yellow glasses. Get some good ones, I was a class 1 HGV,and truly if you get proper yellow driving glasses the difference when fog and mist is amazing, and believe me, if we class one can get a extra twenty yards of stopping distance it is well worth it.
