I also like the fact that this castle is still owned and inhabited by the Eltz-family and that they are friendly enough to share it with the public. Of course they slso need the money for the castle obviously. I don't wanna know how expensive it is to own tis castle 🙈

sometimes I just relax, sit down and listen to the birds. It helps a lot knowing that people like tenner and many other wonderful people, strong in mind and heart, are out there influencing what happens. I think bad stuff is happening but so many good people are inspiring us that the current crisis will actually make the world an even better place. There is strong inspiration going around because something has happened few to no one expected and massive parts of the world are standing together.

Great video! Burg ELTZ/Moselvalley and the nearby Burg MARKSBURG in BRAUBACH/Rheinvalley (ca. 45 km) are real juwels because they have never been destroyed or conquered. Therefore they are authentical, inside you can see how living in a castle through the ages was really like (not like the rebuild idealized castles of the 18 and 19 hundreds). It's worth coming back in the opening season to have a guided tour which really takes you mentally back into the middle ages. Especially at Burg ELTZ the guides explain where in our language a lot of our phrases/expressions/sayings are historically coming from. The noble owner family of Burg ELTZ is possessing the castle since 33 generations.

It's been 30 years since I've visited, but I remember that the way to the castle is integral to the experience. One should not drive all the way! (I hope you too feel it was worth it, even with the added "exercise"). Burg Eltz was laid under siege several times in its long history but never conquered, never destroyed. Location is everything! I remember the inside being narrow and quite dark. So the whole experience is like travelling back in time.

Burg Eltz is one of my favourites, first time I was there was with my school class about ... cough, cough.... 40 years ago. Last time was about 10 years ago when they where renovationg it. It look's awesome in this valley. Too sad you couldn't see the inside and do the tourist tour.
Fun fact, back in the days before the Euro Burg Eltz was on the 500 DM note. ;)

prefer Eltz castle so much to Neuschwanstein. Not only is it almost 800 years older, it also looks much more unique and magical. Unfortunately it’s not „underrated“ anymore😅. During Spring and summertime it’s *filled* with tourists. And you don’t have to wear the cap, I‘m German and I personally think they’re so uncomfortable🙈.

Great video. I think we all have to thank you 3 that you don't stay in that Bavarian cliche bubble like so many others but show that Germany is more than lederhosen and Oktoberfest.
Something I always have to think about when I see young people like you enjoying this extraordinary freedom of our time is how history has taught us so many things that must be remembered. Despite its tendency to repeat itself, I think there are so many signs that times can change. And for me, the most beautiful, and perhaps most impressive symbol of this in its simplicity is that you can jump into the streetcar at Strasbourg cathedral and take a ride across the Rhine to the main station of Kehl. A distance that not so long ago was soaked with the blood of young men who were ordered to kill each other.
If you ever have the chance to take that ride, I absolutely recommend it because it symbolizes modern Europe like few other things, and it is what people like the dictator from the Red Square hate like nothing else. Freedom and peace, not war and force. A unity that cannot be achieved at gun-point but only by working together...
    Take care!

So cute, so pretty. Wonder you did such 2 hrs drive(guess you already used to drive here in Germany) and yes, the mosel valley is pretty with lots of interesting villages which held a lot of deflections while driving. When we were children we loved to visit the castles (Neuschwanstein, Hohenzollern, Lichtenstein (Württemberg) etc.) and to build them as models from paper sheets. The sheets had all the windows, walls and other details printed. With scissors and glue we spent happy hours to stick the parts together and played with the finished models. If you like that look up for "Papiermodellbau Burg".

Aaaawwww, that tiny little huffed 'Uh-huh' by Willa at 3:26... my heart, melting... ❤❤
She was still a bit sleepy, with that slightly dreamy, far-away look. Precious little princess.
All that princess thing seems to be such a favorite of many girls at a certain age, even those that were raised with no preconceptions of certain 'stereotypical gender roles'. It just seems to resonate with (at least) a fairly large part of the female population. I don't know if it is a subconscious 'indoctrination' or if it just somehow 'feels right'. Nope, I don't blame you for indulging her. If she likes it, let her.

The whole forest around Burg Eltz is private property, but the owner allows to walk through. That's important to know, because all videos and photos made of Burg Eltz mustn't be published for commercial purposes. That's forbidden in Germany.

Eltz Castle is still private. It belongs to the family that built it.
The nobles made it through clever contracts with the other princes that their castle was not attacked and destroyed. There have been many wars in Germany and the political situation has often changed.
Many other castles became state property and were destroyed. Others were destroyed because there was a war of succession.
And then you have to consider that such an old castle is expensive to maintain.

Crikey, another video already! I can barely keep up. But most welcome. I'll watch your latest one later. Right now I'm catching up with the latest developments in the Ukraine. Some commentator this morning pointed out that Ukraine is just two hours away by plane, which means you in Germany are even closer. Are you worried about your personal safety?
