- Less than 18 months ago, Stef Burgon and her husband, Simon Hunt, had high-octane jobs in Dubai. They rented a modern first-floor studio flat opposite that gravity-defying beacon of 21st-century engineering, the Burj Khalifa, and could wear T-shirts most days. Now they are the owners of a 16th-century stone castle where the view from their bedroom window is of ancient beech trees and the even older Kilmartin Glen, site of one of the most important concentrations of neolithic and Bronze Age remains in Scotland. What’s more, the mercury rarely nudges above 20C.

If i had such an obscene wealth i would not buy castle, i would hire people to build one but with modern methods and meterials so it removes the cold issues etc

Actually, it's not that expensive to buy a castle in the UK. Most of the castles people purchase like the people in the video buy castles that are super outdated and in a non-livable condition, they then spend tons on renovations to be able to have the space be in a livable condition plus modern household items like AC's, such and such. Most people I know/ seen that have a castle in the UK spend like half a million to buy the castle and another half a million for all the renovations the castle needs. That's one of the cheapest ways I have seen but I could be wrong, all I'm saying is just saving up for a couple of years and lots of planning can buy you your own castle haha.
@James X I live in California, where a million-dollar home can get you a 3 bedroom 2 bath if you're lucky. That's why I was saying it's not that expensive for a literal mansion that's a staple of medieval artifacts.

Now that is a well done modern castle, beautiful and with fitting furnature. Brave to dare get on this project though idk what kind of balance they had but projects like this are usually expensive!
I cooked in this Castle as private chef for a family from the US . I travel for my clients all over Scotland and I see many castles and this is one of a kind with many things you can do inside and also in the BBQ area .. having watched this video I now understand why this place is very unique and is worth to be visited! ❤
Worst that could happen? Bankrupt, homeless, broken back or death from building injury. Glad it worked out for these guys.

Right... Ignorance is bliss, until its not. They are that financially illiterate that they didn't even realize that bankruptcy is VERY plausible doing what they did.

I think they should have put in masonry stoves instead of those inefficient cast iron stoves, that you have to constantly add wood. A medium sized soap stone stove with a pizza oven would have been nice in the great room. With soap stone stove you only have to burn one or two times a day and then the heat radiates from the whole mass of the stove all day.

I remember when we travelled through Germany a lot of ordinary people who live in the castles. There are so many castles. A lot, I think, no longer owed by the original families. They live just like it’s an ordinary home. It was so strange to see modern things for a home but just in a castle

depending on the shape it's in you can buy a castle that size for 500k and much bigger ones for 1-2 mil. Honestly if I had that kind of money and was willing to do the work I'd definitely do it. Though I wouldn't make an Airbnb out of it.

Sorry but that's not a castle. It's a home built with a castle athstetic. It was popular to do this back in the day. Even though its known as a castle its not one. To be a castle it has to be battle ready with crenulations battlements towers arrow slits and so on. This was just an important man's home once upon a time. So if your in the market for a castle hire a historian that knows about them.

Their decorative taste is awful they painted the walls white !! and modernize it I wonder why they even wanted to live in a castle !?
1. It is not a castle, it is a house. 2. There is no such thing as a Grade II Listed building in Scotland. I wish you well in your renovations but please recognise you are not living in England. Please do your work intelligently.
