I looked at that odd turret arrangement and thought "Oh! A bridge layer without the bridge bits!" Of course that guess was wrong.
But it got me thinking that you need to track down a bridge layer with it's bridge, and get it working. 🙂

  • @trampertravels

The turret floor is thick and the turret race teeth are chunky and so that indicates that they were expecting a lot of downward pressure and so I think this is the testbed for the Mk 4 Centurion, which was never put in to service, the 95mm CS (Close Support) Howitzer.

1: You’re putting a 5th wheel on it and you’re going to drag a low loader with Crouch’s Scania on it just to confuse the DVSA and plod. 2: You’re putting an extending ladder on it with air adjustable elevation because you’ve got a barn roof to fix. 3: You’re putting a jib with a couple of slings on (again air adjustable) just to support the bones now you’ve obviously killed Jack off as he didn’t appear again after hooking them up at the beginning. 4: Inspired by the pride broom handle camera mount featured previously you’re building the worlds most capable all terrain self propelled camera tripod.

oh i can get all anoraky (not Iraqi) i just been watching vids of US naval guns, as you do, the barrels were very cleverly made in several parts so they could be re-sleeved later on when worn out, the were nicely balanced so they didn't require a huge ram to adjust the height at the rear, the bearing was a clever piece of kit in its self, a frictionless trunnion bearing each side, almost a floating bearing with a narrow space all round, 5" naval guns were supported from a centre point, on the trunnion bearing, its proper nice engineering if your into that sort of thing, you can find vids on the USS Texas
    ua-cam.com/video/etyVNi0jMiE/v-deo.html

As a swedish guy I like the fact that all trucks/trailers that deliver the tanks are either Volvo or Scania👍😋!
As a truckdriver myself since 25 years I like the V8 Scania best but Volvo are nice trucks to, they are just as good, impossible to say witch one is the best brand. It comes down to personal taste.
Volvo are the cheapest one and they have extremly nice offers when haulage companies that doesn't have the money to buy but has to borrow the money. In this case they are almost forced to buy the Volvo.
It's much more difficult to borrow money to buy a Scania and this is something to have in mind when looking at which brand sells most trucks.
So, it's much more difficult to buy a Scania and still there are so many of them out on the roads, this must mean something!
It's amazing that a small country like Sweden can produce these trucks that can compete with every single trucks in the world!
Sweden also produce nice tanks and weapons!😉

So, potentially one of the Centurion SPGs, the 25lb and 5.5" guns shouldn't be hard to source, but I'm a little concerned about the rear-firing mounting needing major hull surgery.
FV 4004 Conway uses the L1 120mm gun, which I imagine would be scarce, though theoretically you could substitute the American M58 gun so long as you're not intending on firing it (I understand that the British Army had intended to use this gun in the Conqueror series, but it turned out to have far too long a recoil).
FV 4005 used a heavily modified BL 7.2" gun, which I assess as being even more difficult to do, unless you can fabricate a completely fake gun.
