Ted is the star of this show, without doubt!
3:32 I used to make those exhaust flexi/bellows in the late 80,s! We knew they were for Chieftains. I always wondered where they were fitted! We used to make a lot of them!!!
Now you know!
I served in Berlin on these and was in the troop that designed the Berlin camouflage. Over the years carried out many of these. A brilliant machine to work and at times live on. Keep up the good work.
.
8:14.., it was always the dinner lady.., breakfast dinner and tea.
Breakfast, dinner, tea. Spot on. Supper if your
Lucky too
I was always partial to the 'afters' ....
Phnar Phnar ..
I’m an old man that just found your channel. I am amazed at the knowledge you folks have. I’ve worked for years to learn about semis and Diesel engines. You are leaps ahead of me at your age. Please be safe. Peace
American vs. British way, perhaps??? What works better, I leave that up to you to decide. :)😊
8:30 I will have to agree with Jack. Also love the new Foden telehandler.
This has to be the most entertaining video of 3 blokes taking an engine out I have ever seen
Love the JCB identifying as a Foden 🤣
They-c-b
@@trisrush9155 underrated comment
I’m glad it wasn’t identifying as a DOOSAN.
Sry for asking, but what is a foden?
@@177GearBreak the 6 wheel green cranes he has
Breakfast, dinner, tea. Spot on
I bet a certain generation of REME squaddies had that pack lift down to a fine art!
18:30 the back and forth and jack actually getting pissy about it tickled me more than it should have 🤣
Hi Joe. My job when it was time to take the pack out as a driver was to disconnect the engine coupling bolts to the gearbox (twi flex coupling) and it is so much easier to undo from the access plate underneath the Chieftain than from the top of the vehicle, try it when you put the engine back in!
That’s how I usually do it. However I had parked it right over a wet mud patch 🥲
Pack lifts...oh happy days (not). Hated the first few on my 432 but in the end was doing them with an oppo in about 45 mins. Never ceased to amaze me the vehicle's ability to throw a pipe and drop all the oil into the bottom of the engine bay on a regular basis.
I'm convinced that you blokes are the shit! No job is too big when it comes to AFV's.
"Make sure it doesn't fall off" 😅😂
I love the sound of those engines
Taking of the M-type pump makes access to the twyflex easier.(1/4 UNF bolts if memory serves) Also to speed things up we used to have someone underneath undoing a bolt and another on top undoing a bolt.
Video idea… could you give us a insight into the costs of these things?
Like purchase cost, restoration then final value? Would be really interesting. 👍 loving the channel keep it up
BREAKFAST-DINNER-TEA...
TINNERFAST!
Food snack food snack food/bear sleep repeat
Ah reminds me of the good old days in batus taking chally 2 packs out, only a bit easier as gearbox and engine come out as one. Can't beat a bit of Muff coupling action! Loving the banter.
i had a handful of them nice chunky connectors - they are pretty and sparkly and all that, like a Christmas tree decoration, but for servicing they are utter hopeless - some of the ones i had had been dropped, so the knurled collar was no longer round, i had to strip them, heat them, bash them best i could, polish them till they looked almost new and flogged 'em for a fortune to some foreign country - anyway great to see you boys playing so nicely together - Ted looks somewhat bemused
As a Mancunian, it's breakfast dinner tea, but as an ex pat Brit living in the us it's breakfast lunch and dinner. Smh
You guys need tank hub beenies with Tankers on the other side lol
Breakfast Dinner Tea Supper lol
You guys cheer my day up!! brilliant videos and superb banter!!
Breakfast, dinner, tea and supper
Breakfast, dinner and tea. Lunch is for snobs 🤣
This is the Bloke That has been turning rolls. Royce Tank engines stripping them down when they brand new. Engine
And he has done that Three of the suns tank engine engines. Veteran Royal
The way he looked in that JCB reminded me of Oddball lol
Jeez! The clouds of exhaust smoke drifting across the land in the distance @ 1:50
love this kind of vides, Your passion and knowledge for tanks are just amazing, Keep it up
"Get it to where it's safe...then you throw it off the back of the tank.😅😅. That was funny.
This brings back a few memories, lifted many a pack and Gearbox as part of 5 Armd Wksp FRG and then as a member of a couple of LAD's. We used to take the M-Type pump (8 bolts If I remember) off the engine made it easier to do the twiflex coupling was being disconnected from the top. Generally, though the driver was sent underneath.
As a REME tech I did the most important job. Making the egg banjos and NATO standard brews. AeM.
Nigel, I was 11 Armd FRG, (87-90) Correct on removing the M-type pump. I remember it being 6 bolts tho.
splendid video chap
Sounds magnificent when that tank fires up 👍
L60 Pack lift. Brings back memories.
that intro is the perfect tell me you dont have a girlfreind without telling me moment 🤣
I have 3
Well I wouldn't know but I have seen a few ladies doing some really shit jobs (as in the jobs are shit not how it turns out) so no 'girlfriends' but a few 'lady friends'. Sorted !👍👍
Youw can always tell a brummie, but youw can never tell, him muuch 😂
Ex Brummie here watching in Thailand. Keep up the good work mocking their ridiculous accent!
Got so used to lifting the pack on my CR1, in the end me and the REME could get it out in around 40 mins....never did find what was wrong with it (over the course of a year) i moved onto recce.
What do you have to eat on Xmas day? Argument closed 😂
Fuck im laughing so hard please don’t stop swearing Jack. Also never cut out this hilarious banter. You are so OG and that’s what I once loved so much about YT just join someone doing his thing not this scripted softwashed family friendly shit.
Anyways really appreciate your work keep it up.
Breakfast, dinner and tea
Said it before. Always a laugh and always a mechanical education (of sorts!). Nice one!. 🤣 Nuff said!. 🙂
another great video - love the editting
Just want to apologise I’ve been watching your content for a few weeks and wasn’t even subbed, I’ve rectified ❤❤
Breakfast, Dinner, Tea. Anyone saying otherwise needs conversion therapy
Thought I was listening to Monty Python discussing lunch and dinner.
Excellent vid !!!!
Interested to know where you chaps got your knowledge from. You certainly know your stuff. Quill shafts and hiw to pull them are deffo insider information 😉
Literally a video of Bovington on UA-cam doing that to a load of Chieftain ARV/Bridgelayers on some firing range where they'd been taken to be dispersed, but just dumped in a thicket and not shot at.
@@Brigadier9 The Legendary Chatty Taylor from the maintenance crew at Bovington was my Commander. I was his loader at Fallingbostle. I popped in to see him now and again if I was in the area. His knowledge of armoured vehicles was huge, and his pure joy of being around tanks obvious. One one occasion our driver told me that he was urging him on to go faster and asked" How many years have we got left". Sadly he has gone to the "Green Fields Beyond"
Breakfast. Dinner. Tea. BARM CAKE!
breaky, tiffin, tea and suffa!! hehe
Not a Chieftain but it still brings back memories of changing a 432 pack in BATUS
Greta video, i liked the time lapse of you working, makes sense to have little tripods so you can all get involved and not hold phones. Some of the audio if a bit hard to hear, maybe worth investing in a little shotgun mic for the camera.
I like how Jack got the "Special" Intro & graphics this time.
Good video. Very interesting and funny. We need more Jack and Ted.
From wikipedia italy: "The engine is a horizontally opposed piston diesel, derived from the Junkers Jumo 205 aircraft engine from the Second World War. Thanks to the cylinders with opposed pistons, it is an engine that takes up little space. But like other two-stroke diesels, it has long been unreliable, and the initially planned output of 750 hp was limited to 650 HP"
Really? (the first version)
I was in the US Army's Berlin Brigade and many a time I came around the corner to see a chieftain parked in the middle of the road.
Hello chaps, saying hello from good ole usa!!!just been bing watching ur tank repairs and antics after tripping onto ur site.love this stuff i was an 88 recovery tanker 81 to 87 in us army.we threw a track once after splashing snapping turtles out of there swamp hole.what a royal ass pain fixing that was, anyway wanted to ask have you ever worked on a sherman at all or want too.being they are radial like an airplane would that be beyond ur expertice or do you wish too have that chance.no i dont have one handy mind you.but if i did you fellas can have a go around.snooky pa.💥🤪😜🖐👍💥
A L60 in its natural habitat, taken out of a Chieftain for work.
I've just realised rewatching this that Seb reminds me of Paddy from Emmerdale for some reason lol.
Im gonna be honest , I didn’t know you Europeans got down like this 🤘🏼🤘🏼 I live in Alaska , US and this doesn’t look to much different then what goes down in my town … badass videos man
Sounds like you live with my sort of people!
Got down like what exactly?

Breakfast - Dinner - Tea 👌
Top content again boys 😎❤️👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 and Yorkshire tea bags
Go to bed now...LOL
Videos get better everytime
Remove the M type pump, makes the clutch bolts much easier,,,,,
Il stick to welding rotten vehicles and leave the big mechanical work to yourselves lol don’t think my 2 ton engine hoist would lift said engines nor even reach over a tank haha love the videos MR Hewes, on a positive note if you ever need any rotten vehicles welding/ restoring I’m in North Yorkshire !
Back in the day, before COSHH, Elf etc and PPE and all that, you’d be working sans gloves and shit and be able to grip stuff.
You should really have many more subs.
I like how its like you guys are a bunch of kids working on a tank.
Never grow up
OK so without you guys Arguing about whether luch comes before dinner ( sorry but I follow Jack on that matter !! ) ..
How long ( on a good day) would it take to pull out an engine and gearbox out of that old beast ?
About 2 hours
So 3 hours + for you guys then !! Lol 🤪
11 hours
Sounds reasonable 🤣
just found your channel recently and it looks like a fun place to work, i work on cranes in Australia and I like tanks so it's cool to see
Just a quick question. What sort of stuff is it that you use to foam up and degrease engines ect. It looks like it does a good job!
I need a 50 cal on my mantlepiece.
Love that he is live watching the tutorial on how to start his own Chieftain... filmed in his own Chieftain.
Can't get over that look you're giving the camera at 2:44. At least you've got another Foden for the collection.
"Easy easy!" "Carefulcarefulcareful" "Make sure it doesn't fall off" "Let's get it so it's safe" "Quite a valuable piece" "Bye. Fucking scrap!"
Am I seeing a smiley face on the radiator at 4:35
Lunch is at noon, tea is something you drink, and dinner/supper is at the end of the day.
Wow, even cleaned your own tank engine rather than getting another UA-camr in!
My father can do a great Rhodesian impression for impersonating Ian Smith.
"Some absolute infidel-" crusade time against fitters of badly fitted shims and washers?
Whoever put the Smiley face on the rad is a legend
Do K&N do an after market air filter for a Chieftain? 😁
🤣
Go with matt's cherry bomb from one of his videos 😉😂😂
Straight piped Fastrack sounded great.was it in the Archers xmas run?
I see the V bellows on the roots blower is missing. A pig to fit.
Its lunch, not dinner.... 🤣
I am probably going to get some heavy repercussions for saying this, and I will not be responding to hate before anyone tries, so bear this in mind…
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this channel and it's content… I cannot state that enough!… You guys work super hard, and it is an absolute privilege to see into the finer details of the greatest machines in the world that we as Civvies NEVER get the chance to see. Not only this, but the knowledge that comes with it is beyond incredible. I just have one small complaint, and that is the amount of offensive language and “P--n Hub” branded clothing some of you wear. I get life as a working Briton in these kinds of environments has its quirks, and you do have the rights to say and wear whatever you wish… I have no argument there as it is your choice… but I just think it may be a better experience for us to maybe be more self-aware of these. If you are doing this as a purpose to show professionalism and encourage learning by sharing all the skills and knowledge you have acquired in this particular line of work, then it needs to be presented more respectfully.
It is possible that children are a huge presence here and particularly those who are extremely enthusiastic about Tanks, Military Vehicles, Engineering, Workshops, etc etc… so this is more of a reason than any to just be more mindful. If it is age restricted, then parents may allow their children to watch this as a method to satisfy their interests further, so again it is important to uphold a level of professionalism.
Please don't hate, as this is only advice and input from a newly following subscriber. It is not meant to harm or cause trouble for anyone at all.
To you, Family, Friends, and all the crew @Mr Hewes…
Stay Safe!… Stay Well!… Stay Positive!
Stewart.
You know the tank museum has a UA-cam channel which also covers builds, all very friendly, my kids love watching some of those. These boys are doing their own thing.
You don't have to watch if it offends you. And let others make their own mind up. These lads are making a great channel with good banter and very good humour.
It's also very much local humour to the area the lads live in. About 15 miles up the road from me.
A young T. Rex fan?Nice.
