  • How to replace brake pads on a Range Rover Sport with Brembo brakes. Replacing Brembo brake pads is very similar no matter what vehicle they are fitted to.
    This is a guide for people who are experienced in changing brakes and not to be done if you are unsure, or have never done this type of thing before. Brakes are a very important safety feature on your car.
    After removing the wheels, you need to drift the pad retaining pins from the top and bottom of the caliper, ensuring you are careful. There is a large tension spring above the pads which you need to remove, but most of all, you need to be very careful of the calipers. They are only aluminium and can damage very easily. You have to use care when removing the pins, and when re-installing them.
    When pushing the pistons back in the calipers, use a screwdriver between the brake disc and pad to push one set back. when they are flush with the caliper put a screwdriver between the disc and pad to hold the gap and lock the pistons back, then proceed to pushing the other pad and set of pistons back. Just ensure that you don't damage or scratch the face of the brake disc.
    Re-fitting the new pads is basically the reversal of removing.
    I accept no liability for any loss or damage caused from following this guide.

      No problem at all, glad it helped you out. It was a strange one as you have to push the pistons back and lock them with a screwdriver, but once you do they're simple.

    Thank you for posting. I have an Audi with similar Brembo brake set up. I've been searching you tube for how to videos and your tutorial is by far the best one I've seen. You just saved me a ton of money. Cheers from California!

      You're welcome. Most Brembos are pretty similar and they're quite easy to work on. The hardest parts are pushing the pistons back, as if you try to do it with both sets of pads out one side will go back and the other side will pop out. The only thing you have to be REALLY careful of is that you don't hit the caliper when removing the pins, but they shouldn't take much force to remove. Good luck!

    Hello mate great tutorial, would you consider doing a video on a service for these brakes and painting them.? I'd like to do mine as they look a bit tired while I'm there might as well service them...?

    Why didn’t you say anything about removing the brake Reservoir cap, and checking for fluid over flowing when the pistons are pushed back in. ?

    I really appreciated this video, clear, well paced, and easy to follow. thanks! I've got the 2010 with the SC 5.0L. The front brakes are the giant calipers which say Land Rover on them (but they're Brembos, right?) I've done brakes on smaller cars (3series BMW, Honda Accord) and might attempt them on my RRS next go for brakes on this car. Is it the same process shown here? Aren't there 6 pistons on the larger ones? I also thought the caliper pivoted back to get to the pads, but just haven't pulled the wheel to look. many thanks!

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  4 роки тому +1

      I think they're a similar design to this one, but I'm not 100%. Some have to be pivoted or removed, If you watch my How to Paint Brake Calipers video then you'll see my Cayenne brakes (6 piston) which are the type that have to be removed I think these were only fitted to the later L494 sports though. The older style Brembos used the pins and were alot easier to work on.
      The main thing you have to remember is when you push the pistons back on one side, they will push out on the other side, so you are best using a pad spreader tool on this type of brakes. If you've done brakes before you should be fine. They're not scary, just bigger and in my opinion easier to work on

    Great Video, Thanks for posting, did you have to put the vehicle in "Service Mode" prior to pushing the pads back?

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  3 роки тому

      Thanks! No, you don't need to do anything special to the vehicle, just push the pads back slowly so as not to create any force in the ABS system 👍

      No probs. It all depends really. Mine was a 2008 3.6 TDV8. It was ace and quick. I had it for just over a year and a half and had no problems with it. But when I sold it (the mileage was getting high), 3 weeks or so later the EGR valve broke and took one of the turbos with it. It's like any car really, you always read the bad and never the good. Thing is though, I'm looking for another one at the moment as my missus misses the car and wants another. This time I'm getting the 3.0 around a 2012.

    • @mac21ish
      @mac21ish 7 років тому

      thanks for the quick reply. yep im looking for the same around 2012 everything iv read on them say the 3.0 is the best to go for. I suppose all cars have there problems. maybe do a video on it after you have had it for a few weeks would be greatly appreciated. love the Ferrari having that sat on my drive would put a smile on my face every morning lol. anyway thanks again for the reply best of luck to you and your wife with the new range rover.

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому +1

      Yeah, the 3.0 is the best one. Sounds like we're after the same thing! I'm casually looking at the moment, but I'm picky on spec so I'm holding till I get the right one.
      The Ferrari is great and makes me smile when I see her. It's a marvel of engineering, beauty and stupidity all rolled in to one package! Some things fascinate me, and some things make me wonder "why did they do that?" But you can read horror stories about these on the internet too.
      Thanks and take care :-)

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  6 років тому +1

      Hi, you only need to replace the sensor if the sensor is worn through. If the brake pad light has come on then you need to replace it, if it hasn't then you don't. Hope this helps.

    What size punch (brand name and measurement) did you use to get the pins out? What grade of sandpaper did you use? Is it necessary to use brake cleaner on this installation? I usually do on my conventional brake pads replacement to clean off brake dust.

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  8 років тому

      I used the punch from this set that fitted: www.toolstation.com/shop/p44554?searchstr=punch , It doesn't need to be an exact fit and you don't need much force to remove the pins they should come out pretty easily. There wasn't much brake dust on the calipers they were quite clean. I use a small wire brush to remove, but yes you can use brake cleaner, it won't cause any issues. Hope this helps.

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  8 років тому +1

      Just checked. A 3.2mm punch would do the job, a 4mm would also probably fit, This is missing from my set, so it was probably this one I used

    Is there a reason why some of these Range Rovers came with Brembo brakes? was that a option or certain models came with them or whats the story, a buddy of mine has a really nice 2016 model and it has all the bells and whistles,super luxurious interior and it came with regular brakes, no Brembo so i was just wondering? thank you for your time and input

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  4 роки тому

      On the early model (the one in this video) the 3.6TDV8 and Petrol models came with Bembo's, the 2.7TDV6 came with non Brembo's.
      I'm not sure on the newer ones, I think mine has Brembo's (3.0 diesel) but they don't say it on the front of the caliper. I think only the SVR says Brembo the others say Range Rover. But as I say I'm not sure which models do and son't have them on the newer model :-) hope this sort of helps

    • @RATTLER238
      @RATTLER238 3 роки тому +2

      It all depends on engine size, basically anything bigger than 3.0 V6 will have Brembo braking system ie 4.4 SDV8 and 5.0 Supercgareged/SVR’s. 😎

    My mechanic changed rear break pads of 2014 Range Rover without having it in service mode.
    Now the breaks are spongy. Just wondering is this because of not having service mode ??

    I have a 2012 fullsize with the high performance brakes. And the front brakes squeal immensely at slow speeds. Have you heard about this. Replace pads and rotors with brembo OEM parts and they were squealing again the next day...
    Thanks for the video btw.

      I had an Audi A7 that did a similar thing. I let the dealer fix it as it was under warranty but I believe it was to do with the grease that they used on the pads. It seems simple but it may be that, I always use copper grease when doing break pads.

    • @Fburch5
      @Fburch5 4 роки тому

      My Supercar Life Thanks for the response, I’ve always been a big fan of copper grease as well, but on this occasion I wanted to stay strictly to the instructions and use brembo’s black special paste. I’ve also heard about removing the plastic backing on the brembo pads, have you? I read it in a Land Rover service manual for much later cars maybe -‘16-‘18

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  4 роки тому +1

      I haven't heard that one personally. I have a tube of some all singing ceramic brake grease and never used it, I always stick with copper grease and filing the edges of the brake pads a little to make them smoother. It's the way I was taught as an apprentice and i's served me well. Might be worth stripping it down and sticking some copper grease in, what's the worst that can happen?

    I have a 2016 RR Supercharged V8 I purchased in Jan. After 1500 miles the front Brembo brakes began squeaking at 10mph. Ive returned the car 5 times for repairs, 3 times the last month. The first time LR replaced the entire Brembo brakes that didn't work. Then new pads, and again no luck. lastly they replaced rotors and pads, and you guessed it the squeaking continues. Any ideas or suggestions?

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому +1

      Hi. My Audi did exactly the same when I got it, it was 2 years old and squeaked like it was 20 years old. It was embarrassing. I took it back to Audi and they said there was a Technical Bulletin regarding the type of grease used on the pads. It was fixed straight away.
      Now I believe that most manufacturers and dealers don't use any sort of copper grease or lubricant on the pads these days, and this is what everyone used to use back in the day.
      Squeaking brakes are generally caused by metal on metal vibrating together, if they just use a small amount of lubricant on the edges of the pads where they contact the caliper then it should stop. This was one of the first things I was taught as and apprentice mechanic, but it seems like now if they can't fix it by plugging it in to a computer then they don't know what to do. Otherwise email Brembo and ask them if they can give you a suggestion to take to the dealer, they might believe that.
      Hope you get it fixed

      Hey Abdul,
      Knee Pads are these:
      www.diy.com/departments/tommyco-gel-swivel-knee-pads/677668_BQ.prd
      I think they're sold in a few brands, but they're gel filled. I have to use them now because I've damaged my right knee from kneeling on the floor, and now when I kneel down I struggle to walk afterwards. I wear them a lot now as it really helps, but I think I need to see a doctor!
      Impact Wench is a Clarke CIR220 It's a 24v Impact Wrench with 220nm torque. I mainly use it to remove wheel nuts and it works well. Sometimes you have to loosen them first with a breaker bar, but it's still faster than removing by hand.

      Good afternoon,
      I have a 2012 Range Rover Evoque, I wanted to ask a question I've been having a problem with my breaks!
      I feel that my brakes are failing when I'm in reverse I had new brake pads replaced, but when I'm driving slow in reverse, trying to park the car or parallel parking driving very slow going front and back I feel like my brakes are failing and I have to pump them several times to get them to stop!!!!
      I ended up taking my car to the dealer this morning and the mechanic cannot reenact what my issues are.. do you have any suggestions what I may do to correct this problem??
      Thank you,,
      Sheila

    • @pabloottawa
      @pabloottawa 7 років тому +1

      Sheila, did you try to recreate the problem with YOU driving and HIM in the passenger seat?

    • @MySupercarLife
      @MySupercarLife  7 років тому

      Hi Sheila. Pablos suggestion is a great one, if you can get the car to do it with the mechanic with you. Otherwise I'm not really sure what it can be. I know on the Range Rover Sport if you replace the rear brake pads (I think it's mainly the parking brake) that the car has to be re-calibrated on the computer, however I'm not sure that this is your issue. I think it would be best to consult a Land Rover / Range Rover specialist or Main Dealer. Brakes are complex on newer cars.

    • @pabloottawa
      @pabloottawa 7 років тому

      When the rear pads and rotors are replaced the Electronic emergency brake needs to be re calibrated, you don't have to do it on the software side unless the wear sensor pads on the front have worn out and in most cases all it takes is new sensors, no need to mess with the software or reset anything. the brakes on these things is all all tech work, no computer needed.
