Let's support All HBCU band programs.
The Marching 101 has been in a rebuilding phase since our school's financial issues a few years back that forced cuts in many areas including band scholarships. While our band is not where we once were in terms of numbers in the HBCU band world, the band is slowly working its way back. We have a major contingent of 101 alums and SCSU alums overall in the Georgia regions. Hopefully events like this will help with recruiting some the high schoolers in the region.

Man, I remember when SCSU Marching 101 had well over 350 band members. I mean they had some incredible dance routines when they use to play us (SU) back in the early 90's. I know they've had some issues. I'm rooting for the 101 and their program to overcome their issues. Also praying that they get back to recruiting those huge numbers and regaining the prominence that they use to have.
And I was in that band in the early 90s.. you know it!!! MELLO PHONE PSI!!!

I was a 91’-92 Band Member and I was in Grad School then!! I was 19 years old and the youngest Grad in the SCSU history!! It was hard but it was also one of the greatest experiences and accomplishments in my life!! Mr. Sarge (RIH) and Mr. Hinton were like NO OTHER! That SOUND though!! As we say in Church, “My, My, My!!” It can’t be done like that 101!! Let’s Go-You know! ❤️🥁🎺📯🎷 #SSSqueaks4LIFE😉

Haven't seen SC State in a while. They've always been one of my favorites in the MEAC and they still sound great. Glad they are in a rebuilding and growing phase after those budget cuts. Thanks for sharing! Appreciate and support all our HBCU Bands. 😎🎵🎼🔥🔥 🔊💯

I still have hope for the Marching 101. I grew up watching them since the 90s. It's unfortunate that the university didn't invest the money in the campus and programs that would attract more students.

@@jenn9204 Dude, don't play fucking stupid! Most bands their size try to overcompensate for their size by OVERBLOWING EVERYTHING. Additionally, bands their size usually lack proper instrumentation, making them sound UNBALANCED. SCSU sound very good FOR THEIR SIZE because they aren’t falling into those gaps. HOWEVER, I would expect a lot more from them if they had 75 additional members.

I hope 101 picked up some ATL recruits. They sound good but this is sad to watch them be this small. They took the event serious tho and that’s important!!

Someone please help me to understand these budget cuts I am reading about, I honestly hadn't seen the 101 in a long time. I just looked it up out of curiosity, for instate tuition they are charging 30,000 dollars a year, yes that includes all expenses, but still, why in the hell are there budget cuts? Someone need to explain this to me like I'm a 3rd grader, because as much as these schools are charging, there is no way they should have any type of money problems. Let's be real, most college students are getting financing of some type, so that's guaranteed money to these schools, from the banks that are handing out these loans like they are candy. I need an explanation. Why does it seem like HBCUs are supposedly having money issues? Are they pocketing the money, what is really going on?
1) Enrollment plays a huge factor. When enrollment drops, as SCSU's did, the less revenue generated. 2) Because SCSU is also a state funded school, when the funding from the state is decreased as SCSU's have been year after year in South Carolina, that also plays a huge factor. 3) Alumni giving back to the school is also important factor. 4) Most important, when the money spent to keep the university operating is more than the actual revenue being generated by the school, it has to be made up in other ways such as, faculty/staff furloughs and/or cuts, cuts to various programs, and/or getting rid of certain programs, etc. 5) Most state funded HBCUs have money issues because they are not funded by the state equally as state funded PWI schools. Private HBCUs sometimes have it harder because outside of revenue the receive from tuition, they rely on donations from alums and others because they don't receive any funding from the state.

The Halftime Show, 5th Qtr, and just playing in the stands is not going to be a good outing against the Boom. This will not be fair. Boom has about 22 Tubas to bring that funk.. They sound good, but Jackson has some HS Bands that would kill them...

Past videos of the Marching 101 when we had numbers would say differently and it depends on the leadership of the band. The dancers are wearing what the rest of the band is wearing just without the jackets. They normally don't wear gameday uniforms to events like these.

Nice bass and tenor voices from this band. Still need a great amount of work on mid and upper voices. Continue to work hard and you'll get back to that Ronald Sargeant sound.
