This is great. When Donna was on, her backups were way better than Brett's or Vince's. And Jerry was playing the Travis Bean guitar, one of the last before Doug Irwins. Capitol was a famous place to see the Dead. I saw them at there but in it was in 80.

Just my opinion, but spring '77 was the calm before the storm with his heroin use. I think he managed to 'get away with it" from '74 to this spring, then it really starts to turn on him.

It does not really effect his performances until 78. The fall and winter 77 shoes were also outstanding shows. His playing in November 77 was as good as anything he played in sprig 77. The fall 77 shows may not be quite as good as the spring shows but they are not far behind and still much better than anything they played from 78 onwards. Also the fall 77 shows not being quite as good as the spring shows is the result of the band as whole not being quite as tight or polished. It's not as if Jerry's playing or performer took bay sort of nose dive while the rest of the band played just as good as in the spring. Every band no matter how good has a peak period of live performances where there is one particular run of shows or one particular tour where they are at their absolute peak and even with the very best groups it's usually 2 very brief perfume where nothing before or after is quite as good and these periods are usually quite short . In most cases it's 2 month to 6 month period . It's like a peal period within a peak peak period . For the dead spring 77 was that brief lighting in a bottle period where for a 2 month period they were untouchable but that type of peak is very brief and unsustainable. It's a high water mark and as quickly as these periods emerge they roll back just as quickly. For a band like the stones there peak is 68 to 73 but there is a a couple of months in 72 where they hit their peak within their peak. Zeppelin is very much the same . Their peak was 69 to 73 but again there was a 2 month period in the spring of 73 where they peaked as a live band . For the Dead the fall 77 shows were the beginning of that wave starting to roll back and continues to roll back until the spring of 78 where it gets accelerated by Jerry's Drug use and it really not until spring and summer of 78 that his substance abuse starts to impact his performance. . Even the level performance in the fall of 77 is hard to sustain.

@@adamwatson6916 I don't run into many people who know those bands better than I do, but it seems you're one of them. You're right, but I'm also talking about physical condition--not just his playing. The Dec '78 Jerry looks almost 10 years older than spring '77 Jerry (to me anyway).

@@psst...heyyou6508 I rarely say anything negative on here. And people shying away from stuff like that was part of the whole problem in the first place.

Donna had a loud mouth, she motivated the band and many roadies..

It wasn't her loud mouth that Motivated them it was another activity she used her mouth for that gave them Motivation .
